Virgin Atlantic lanza el código compartido de Korean Air
Virgin Atlantic Airways ha anunciado el lanzamiento un acuerdo de código compartido con Korean Air que cubre los vuelos entre Londres y Seúl, así como las conexiones desde la capital surcoreana. La primera fase de la asociación entre los miembros de la alianza SkyTeam permite a los pasajeros que reservan a través de Virgin Atlantic viajar directamente a Seúl Incheon (ICN). Korean Air vuela Londres Heathrow diariamente desde ICN utilizando aviones Boeing 777-300ER. Los vuelos de código compartido desde Seúl a Auckland, Brisbane, Da Nang, Hanoi, Ciudad Ho Chi Minh y Sydney comenzarán en Mayo 2023, seguidos de Fukuoka, Hong Kong, Kansai, Nagoya, Okinawa, Tokio Haneda y Tokio Narita en junio.
Juha Jarvinen, Director Comercial de Virgin Atlantic, dijo el 24/03 que el acuerdo “traería una serie de beneficios a los pasajeros. Como uno de los principales operadores de Asia, los clientes de Virgin Atlantic pueden beneficiarse de su extensa red de rutas, que ofrecerá más opciones en toda Asia y Australasia”.
La asociación es un primer paso hacia la entrada de Virgin Atlantic en Seúl, Corea del Sur. La aerolínea británica tiene la intención de lanzar vuelos Londres Heathrow/LHR—Seúl Incheon/ICN para el verano de 2024 como parte de un movimiento para permitir que el regulador de competencia del Reino Unido autorice la fusión Korean Air-Asiana.
La Autoridad de Competencia y Mercados del Reino Unido había estado investigando el acuerdo y señaló preocupaciones de que podría dañar la competencia entre el Reino Unido y Corea del Sur, dado que Korean Air y Asiana son los únicos operadores de vuelos sin escalas entre los países. Para abordar las preocupaciones, Korean Air ha acordado poner a disposición de Virgin Atlantic siete pares semanales de franjas horarias de Londres Heathrow que se utilizarán para lanzar una ruta a Seúl. Virgin Atlantic tiene una ventana exclusiva inicial para comenzar el servicio, cuya duración depende de la reapertura del espacio aéreo ruso a las aerolíneas del Reino Unido. Si Virgin Atlantic no abre la ruta durante este período, dentro de los doce meses posteriores al cierre de la fusión o durante la temporada de verano de 2024, lo que ocurra más tarde, se abrirá una segunda ventana y un transportista alternativo podrá tomar el remedio.

Virgin Atlantic launches Korean Air’s codeshare
Virgin Atlantic Airways has announced the launch a code agreement shared with Korean Air that covers flights between London and Seoul, as well as connections from the South Korean capital. The first phase of the association between the members of the Skyteam Alliance allows passengers to reserve through Virgin Atlantic travel directly to Seoul Incheon (ICN). Korean Air flies London Heathrow daily from ICN using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. As one of the main operators of Asia, Virgin Atlantic customers can benefit from their extensive network of routes, which will offer more options throughout Asia and Australasia”.
The association is a first step towards the entrance of Virgin Atlantic in Seoul, South Korea. The British airline intends to launch Flights London Heathrow/LHR-Seaul Incheon/ICN for the summer of 2024 as part of a movement to allow the United Kingdom’s competition regulator to authorize the Korean Air-Asiana merger.
The United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority had been investigating the agreement and pointed out concerns that it could damage the competition between the United Kingdom and South Korea, since Korean Air and Asiana are the only operators of non scales flights among the countries. To address the concerns, Korean Air has agreed to make available to Virgin Atlantic seven weekly pairs of time strips of London Heathrow that will be used to launch a route to Seoul. Virgin Atlantic has an initial initial window to begin the service, whose duration depends on the reopening of Russian airspace to the United Kingdom airlines. If Virgin Atlantic does not open the route during this period, within the twelve months after the closing of the merger or during the 2024 summer season, which will happen later, a second window and an alternative carrier will open can take the remedy .
