Icelandair ordena 25 aviones Airbus A321XLR
La aerolínea nacional islandesa Icelandair ha firmado un Memorando de Entendimiento (MoU) con el constructor europeo Airbus Group para ordenar la compra de trece (13) aviones Airbus A321XLR, manteniendo derechos de compra por doce para aeronaves adicionales. El régimen de entregas se iniciarán a partir del 2029. El monto de la transacción no ha sido difundido, mientras que la compra de los trece aviones permitirá alcanzar opciones de financiamiento al aproximarse las fechas de entregas.
Los nuevos aviones A321XLR (eXtra Long Range) y A321LR (Long Range) forman parte de la familia Airbus A320neo de aviones de fuselaje estrecho. Las aeronaves de próxima generación del constructor europeo proporcionan alcance extendido, eficiencia de combustible y menores emisiones de carbono, lo que permitirá reducir costos operativos y apoyará aún más los objetivos de sostenibilidad de Icelandair. El diseño interior permitirá a los clientes una experiencia excepcional. El avión A321XLR, la última variante permitirá transportar 190 pasajeros con una autonomía de 4.700 millas náuticas/8.700 km, lo que permite a Icelandair operarlo en sus destinos de largo alcance.

Como parte de la actualización de su flota la aerolínea islandesa planea comenzar a operar aviones Airbus A321 en 2025 con la adquisición de cuatro Airbus A321LR bajo régimen de arriendo, lo que permitirá a Icelandair completar el reemplazo de la actual flota de Boeing 757. Icelandair ha tenido una relación exitosa con Boeing durante décadas y el avión Boeing 757 ha sido clave para el éxito de Icelandair en el pasado. Una actualización de flota ha agregado al Boeing 737 MAX.
