Auditoría de agencia para determinar categoría a México
La Administración Federal de Aviación (FAA) de Estados Unidos ha comunicado el Sábado 3 de Junio de 2023 la auditoría para que México recupere la Categoría 1 (CAT 1) en seguridad aeronáutica, por lo que en unas semanas más las autoridades estadunidenses emitirán la resolución, informó la Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT). La agencia aeronáutica federal estadounidense aclararon que México aún no ha recuperado la Categoría 1 que perdió el 25 de Mayo de 2021 debido al rediseño del espacio aéreo.
Más tarde, la SICT indicó en un comunicado que la Auditoría de Evaluación de Seguridad en Aviación Internacional (IASA) concluyó el Viernes 02/06 con la presencia de siete inspectores de la FAA. Destacó que este proceso tiene el objetivo de que el país sea recategorizado. Corresponderá ahora a la FAA emitir de manera oficial en las siguientes semanas un informe final de los resultados de esa auditoría, por lo que las autoridades mexicanas quedan a la espera del citado informe, destacó la SICT. La dependencia explicó que la visita de las autoridades estadunidenses se realizó durante esta semana en la Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil (AFAC), donde funcionarios mexicanos respondieron 316 preguntas de los expertos, relacionadas con seguridad aérea, aeronavegabilidad, legislación, procedimientos y recursos humanos y financieros, principalmente.
El pasado mes de Mayo 2023 se cumplieron dos años de que México sufrió la degradación a Categoría 2, lo cual limitado que líneas aéreas mexicanas abran nuevas rutas hacia Estados Unidos. Lo anterior implicó que el Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles (AIFA) aún no tenga vuelos con algún destino al país del norte, pues ha sido cuestionada la seguridad aérea debido a la cercanía que tiene con el Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México y el Aeropuerto Internacional de Toluca.
La SICT previó desde Diciembre 2022 que México recupere la Categoría 1 antes del verano septentrional, pues es la temporada alta para los vacacionistas. Las autoridades de ambos países han dicho que recategorizar a México es una prioridad, pues garantiza la seguridad aérea de 30 millones de pasajeros.

Agency audit to determine the category to Mexico
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States has communicated on Saturday, June 3, 2023, the audit for Mexico to recover Category 1 (CAT 1) in aviation safety so that in a few more weeks the US authorities will issue the resolution, informed the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT). The US federal aeronautical agency clarified that Mexico has not yet recovered Category 1 which it lost on May 25, 2021, due to the redesign of airspace.
Later, the SICT indicated in a statement that the International Aviation Security Assessment Audit (IASA) concluded on Friday 06/02 with the presence of seven FAA inspectors. He stressed that this process has the objective of recategorizing the country. It will now be up to the FAA to officially issue a final report on the results of that audit in the following weeks, so the Mexican authorities are waiting for the aforementioned report, the SICT highlighted. The agency explained that the visit by the US authorities took place this week at the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), where Mexican officials answered 316 questions from the experts, related to air safety, airworthiness, legislation, procedures, and human resources and mainly financial.
Last May 2023 marked two years since Mexico suffered a downgrading to Category 2, which limited Mexican airlines from opening new routes to the United States. The above implied that the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) still does not have flights to any destination in the northern country, since air safety has been questioned due to its proximity to the International Airport of Mexico City and the International Airport from Toluca.
The SICT provided since December 2022 that Mexico recover Category 1 before the northern summer since it is the high season for vacationers. The authorities of both countries have said that recategorizing Mexico is a priority since it guarantees the air safety of 30 million passengers.
