These new aircraft will allow us to increase capacity and support more efficient jet services. And, most importantly, they will reduce emissions by at least 15% per flight compared to the 737-800NG fleet, supporting our commitment to target net-zero emissions by 2050. We expect our fleet renewal program, combined with other fuel efficiency initiatives, to support more than 80% of our interim 2030 goal of reducing Virgin Australia’s carbon intensity by 22%”.
Starting in late July 2023, the MAX 8 will be used on the new route between Cairns Airport (CNS) in far north Queensland with Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), which was launched last week. Virgin Australia now operates services to six international destinations, including Tokyo, Bali, Queenstown (New Zealand), Nadi (Fiji), Port Vila (Vanuatu), and Apia (Samoa).
