Primer vuelo con combustible sustentable de aviación

Aerolíneas Argentinas realizó su primer vuelo con Combustible Sostenible de Aviación (SAF) cubriendo la ruta Madrid/MAD—Buenos Aires/EZE, con una aeronave que arribó en la madrugada del Sábado 16/09 al Aeropuerto internacional de Ezeiza. El vuelo AR1135 es la prueba inicial de la empresa en el marco de su Plan de Sostenibilidad. La aeronave, cargó un 2% de combustible del tipo SAF a los fines de realizar las pruebas de análisis de rendimiento, que resultaron positivas.

Según lo proyectado, a partir de 2027, se comenzará a utilizar este tipo de combustibles en todos los vuelos de Aerolíneas Argentinas con el objetivo de alcanzar la neutralidad para 2050, de acuerdo a los convenios internacionales firmados a los que suscriben las compañías que forman parte de la Asociación Internacional de Transporte Aéreo (IATA).

“Es un vuelo que tiene un valor muy especial porque significa la implementación efectiva de una parte importante de nuestro Plan de Sostenibilidad. Todo el trabajo de medición, análisis y seguimiento que venimos realizando para cumplir con las metas y los convenios internacionales firmados, conjuntamente con nuestro compromiso para una aviación sostenible, viajaron en este vuelo también”, explicó Pablo Ceriani, Presidente de Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Los combustibles SAF son químicamente similares a los fósiles pero con menores emisiones netas de gases de efecto invernadero en su ciclo de vida. Dado su impacto positivo comprobado, los combustibles refinados a partir de materiales no fósiles son considerados un bien escaso y muy requerido por el sector. Para considerarse como SAF, un combustible tiene que reducir dichas emisiones entre un 50 y un 60% y su materia prima debe ser de terrenos y técnicas que no afecten a la diversidad. Además, debe cumplir con ciertos criterios y consideraciones sociales, económicas y ambientales, orientados a reducir la influencia de la aviación en la atmósfera. En los próximos años serán una herramienta sustancial para avanzar en la descarbonización de la industria de la aviación.

Aerolíneas Argentinas made its first flight with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) covering the route Madrid/MAD—Buenos Aires/EZE, with an aircraft that arrived in the early hours of Saturday 09/16 at the Ezeiza International Airport. Flight AR1135 is the company’s initial test within the framework of its Sustainability Plan. The aircraft loaded 2% SAF-type fuel for the purpose of performing performance analysis tests, which were positive.

According to what is projected, starting in 2027, this type of fuel will begin to be used on all Aerolíneas Argentinas flights with the aim of achieving neutrality by 2050, in accordance with the international agreements signed by the companies that are part of it. of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

SAF fuels are chemically similar to fossil fuels but with lower net greenhouse gas emissions over their life cycle. Given their proven positive impact, fuels refined from non-fossil materials are considered a scarce good and highly required by the sector. To be considered SAF, a fuel must reduce these emissions between 50 and 60% and its raw material must be from soils and techniques that do not affect diversity. In addition, it must meet certain social, economic, and environmental criteria and considerations, aimed at reducing the influence of aviation on the atmosphere. In the coming years, they will be a substantial tool to advance the decarbonization of the aviation industry.
