Grupo Abra ha anunciado la adquisición de la aerolínea española Wamos Air. En el concurso desarrollado para la compra de la aerolínea de ocio española han participado diferentes private equity entre ellos la colombiana Avianca, como parte de los consorcios para obtener el control de la compañía aérea. En el deal, por parte de Wamos Air ha asesorado el equipo legal de Squire Patton Boggs. Por su parte, Avianca ha sido asesorada por Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.

El Grupo Abra, propietario de las aerolíneas latinoamericanas Avianca Airlines (Colombia) y GOL Linhas Aéreas, ha anunciado la adquisición de la compañía española Wamos Air, especializada en servicios de arrendamiento de aviones con tripulación, mantenimiento y seguros incluidos (wet lease).

The Colombian airline has taken a significant step in its expansion by announcing an investment of US$ 473 million in the acquisition of new, state-of-the-art aircraft. According to the company’s CEO, Adrián Neuhauser, this acquisition aims to increase national routes and destinations to meet growing demand.

The airline plans to lease fourteen (14) Airbus A320neo aircraft and two (2) A320ceo aircraft to expand its daily flights on domestic routes by almost 25%. In turn, this expansion represents an increase of almost one million seats per week, allowing for unprecedented growth in the history of the airline. The 16 aircraft will be financed with cash on hand and some additional debt assumed by the company. These aircraft are expected to join the Avianca fleet between October and the end of December 2024.

In addition to increasing its flight capacity, this investment will also generate employment in the aviation sector. It is estimated that Avianca will hire around 1,200 new employees before the end of the year. Part of these hires will come from Viva Air, the Colombian low-cost airline that Avianca had previously attempted to acquire.

LOT Polish Airlines will expand its fleet size with the arrival of three (3) new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft through a leasing agreement with lessor Azorra Aviation, based in Florida, United States.

The first new Embraer E195-E2 is scheduled to join the LOT Polish Airlines fleet at the end of July this year, with all aircraft deliveries to be completed in the third quarter of 2024. LOT was the first operator of the new E-Jet in 2004 with the inaugural flight completed by an E170 on an 85-minute journey from Warsaw to Vienna on March 17, 2024.

Since that flight, Embraer has delivered 1,800 E-Jets, the most recently received by Royal Jordanian Airlines in May 2024.

Airbus Group ha anunciado la cartera de pedidos y enttregas para Abril de 2024. El constructor europeo ha entregado 61 aviones y consigue 57 nuevos pedidos de aviones comerciales. A lo largo de 2024, Airbus obtuvo un total acumulado hasata la fecha de 227 pedidos, entre los que se incluyen 152 aviones de la familia A320neo, tres A330-900 y 72 A350.

El Miércoles 08/05, el gigante aeroespacial europeo, Airbus, confirmó sus pedidos y entregas de aviones comerciales para Abril de 2024, lo que supone un aumento del 13% en comparación con el mismo periodo del año anterior. Salgado Filho permanecerá cerrado por inundaciones

El Administrador del Aeropuerto Porto Alegre Salgado Filho (POA) informó que las operaciones están suspendidas hasta el 30 de Mayo de 2024 debido a las inundaciones provocadas por las fuertes precipitaciones en la región Sur de Brasil. Actualmente, el aeropuerto gaúcho permanece bajo el agua tras las inundaciones que azotaron el Estado de Rio Grande do Sul (RS).

El Lunes 06/05 la Asociación Brasileña de Líneas Aéreas (Abear) informó que el Aeropuerto Salgado Filho está cerrado indefinidamente, con todas las operaciones suspendidas. Fraport, el Administrador aeroportuario, emitió una nota en la que establecería el 30 de Mayo de 2024 como fecha final de la suspensión de operaciones. Antes de que se alcanzaran los niveles de este mes, el récord se estableció en 1941 con un umbral de 4,76 metros.

La respuesta federal a la catástrofe en Rio Grande do Sul moviliza a 15.000 personas, con más de 25.000 rescates se llevaron a cabo en operaciones conjuntas de las fuerzas federales, estatales y municipales. The airport has been closed since last Friday, May 3, 2024, due to the rise in the waters of Lake Guaíba, in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, which reached the highest level ever recorded, a level of 5.33 meters on Sunday 05/05 in the morning. The elevation is expected to remain above the flood threshold (3 m) for the next ten days. Before this month’s levels were reached, the record was set in 1941 with a threshold of 4.76 meters.

Federal Response
The federal response to the disaster in Rio Grande do Sul mobilized 15,000 people, with more than 25,000 rescues carried out in joint operations of federal, state, and municipal forces. The federal government recognized this Sunday the state of emergency in 265 municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul, a measure that will facilitate the transfer of resources for emergency and reconstruction actions. Rescue operations are supported by 130 aircraft, more than 950 vehicles, and 182 boats.

The tragedy occurs due to the mass of hot air parked in the Center-South of the country, which prevents the advance of cold fronts and concentrates precipitation in Rio Grande do Sul and the south of Santa Catarina. The phenomenon is intensified by one of the strongest El Niño phenomena in history and by climate change, related to the increase in extreme weather events in the region.

Porto Alegre
The city of Porto Alegre was founded by Portuguese immigrants in 1772, the metropolis developed under the influence of its port, which was key to the growth of Brazil. It is the capital of one of the most thriving states in the country, with the fifth Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the largest Latin American economy. If its metropolitan region is added, the number of inhabitants of Porto Alegre reaches 3.5 million.

This modern city with many tall buildings stands on the banks of Lake Guaíba, which is commonly called a river due to its extension, connected to the Laguna de los Patos, and this in turn to the Atlantic Ocean. It is this confluence of waterways that gave Porto Alegre its strategic value to channel agricultural production making it one of the richest states in Brazil. However, today that blessing turned into a misfortune with the flooding of water courses as a result of the rains. The historic center of Porto Alegre is currently under water and the damage from the flood is still impossible to assess.
