El gigante del arrendamiento de aviones Avolon ha puesto en duda el alquiler de aeronaves a aerolíneas rusas después de que el Gobierno de la Federación Rusa se apodere de aviones en el país. El CEO Dómhnal Slattery, de la importante compañía irlandesa de arrendamiento de aviones acusó el Martes 30/03 a Rusia de robo después de que el Gobierno del Presidente Vladimir Putin se apoderó de varios aviones arrendados. La terrible experiencia tendrá impactos duraderos en la relación de la compañía con el país, dijo el Ejecutivo, Domhnal Slattery, poniendo en duda si el segundo arrendador de aviones más grande volvería a hacer negocios significativos con las aerolíneas rusas. “Lo intentamos todos los días, pero a partir de hoy hay cero posibilidades de recuperarlos en este momento”, dijo.

Aircraft leasing giant Avolon has questioned leasing aircraft to Russian airlines after the Government of the Russian Federation seized aircraft in the country. They were required under sanctions in protest of Russia’s attack on Ukraine to cut contracts with Russian clients. But Vladimir Putin earlier this month signed a law that would allow the country’s airlines to fly the planes domestically and re-register them, thus showing their expropriation and dimming the prospects of their repossession by foreign owners. Some $10 billion worth of foreign-owned planes that were leased to Russian airlines are stuck in the country. “It’s just a robbery. The planes have been stolen. It’s incomprehensible”, Domhnal Slattery said.
Avolon, which is based in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, had 14 aircraft stationed in Russia and has recovered four of them. It now has a net exposure of around US$200 million. The aviation firm had more than 800 aircraft at the end of 2021. “It will be a very, very long time, if we ever have an appetite for incremental exposure in Russia again”, Domhnal Slattery said.
Leased planes are key to Russia’s fleet of more than 970 planes with some 500 managed by a foreign owner, according to aviation consulting and data firm Cirium. Domnhal Slattery said the crisis in Russia will affect the insurance market, particularly by raising the cost of war risks. Avolon rival AerCap, which is also based in Dublin, will hold a quarterly call to discuss financial results on Wednesday morning 3/31.

The Boeing Company unveiled a new, high-performance small satellite production, integration and test facility designed for efficiency and fast turnaround times. Located in the world’s largest satellite factory, Boeing’s 1 million square foot/92,903 square meter facility in El Segundo, California, the small satellite production line will be powered by Boeing subsidiary Millennium Space Systems. “Boeing and Millennium are bringing together the production expertise, domain knowledge and manufacturing capabilities of Boeing with the agility and rapid prototyping of Millennium. We are scaling and growing to deliver on our customers’ vision of orbiting constellations”, in demand across all markets and mission sets,” said Jim Chilton, senior vice president, Boeing Space and Launch.
Companies are applying advanced and additive manufacturing techniques, including 3D printing entire space-qualified satellite buses, to deliver faster cycle times and improve performance. “Our customers need satellites in orbit faster than ever. Like an airplane or automobile production line, we are employing lean manufacturing principles and advanced manufacturing techniques to speed delivery and pass on cost savings to our customers”, he said Jim Chilton.
The Millennium Space Systems team will staff the small satellite factory, bringing the subsidiary’s proven processes and infrastructure, as well as environmental testing capabilities tailored to small satellites. Boeing will also provide access to extensive specialized and environmental testing capabilities that have qualified some of the most iconic spacecraft, including the first vehicle to make a fully controlled soft landing on the Moon and more than 300 satellites. “Millennium’s culture is built on creating innovative ways to revolutionize space. Los vuelos de Air Tahiti Nui a Seattle (WA) comenzarán el 4 de Octubre de 2022, utilizando aeronaves Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Delta Air Lines y otras aerolíneas estadunidenses enviaron una carta al presidente Joe Biden en donde pidieron la eliminación de los mandatos de transporte de la era Covid, como el requisito federal de uso de mascarillas faciales en aviones y aeropuertos que se extendió recientemente hasta el 18 de Abril de 2022. Las empresas del sector también pidieron que se elimine el requisito de prueba internacional previa a la salida para los clientes entrantes a la nación norteamericana. “Considerando las métricas de salud pública mejoradas en los Estados Unidos y los avances médicos para prevenir los peores resultados de covid-19, el mandato federal de uso de mascarillas faciales y las pruebas previas a la salida ya no encajan con el entorno actual. Apreciamos el liderazgo del gobierno federal durante la pandemia. Ministerio Transporte mantuvo reunión con aerolíneas Estuvieron presentes JetSmart, Flybondi y Aerolíneas Argentinas
El Ministerio de Transporte de Argentina, la Agencia Nacional de Aviación Civil (ANAC) y las líneas aéreas de Argentina mantuvieron distintas reuniones el Martes 29/03 con representantes de JetSmart Airlines Argentina, Flybondi Líneas Aéreas y Aerolíneas Argentinas con el objetivo de impulsar el diálogo con las diferentes compañías que realizan vuelos de cabotaje regulares en Argentina y avanzar en el cumplimiento del Decreto Nº879/2021 referido al esquema de bandas tarifarias. En los tres encuentros entre Transporte y las compañías aéreas que se llevan adelante a pedido del Ministro Alexis Guerrera, se realizaron en las oficinas de la cartera del ministerio nacional y fueron encabezadas por el Jefe de Gabinete de Asesores del Ministerio de Transporte, Álvaro Errea, junto a Paola Tamburelli, Administradora de la ANAC.
En la serie de reuniones realizadas se efectuaron diversos intercambios de información entre las compañías y el Ministerio, tal como fue acordado en la primera reunión a la cual asistieron todas las empresas. Asimismo, acordaron continuar el trabajo en la misma línea, profundizando el análisis de los datos compartidos y manteniendo todos los encuentros necesarios en el futuro.
Cifras en aviación
El último mes de Febrero 2022 fueron transportados 885.180 pasajeros en vuelos de cabotaje, mientras que en 2021 esa cifra fue de 395.262, lo que destaca el aumento de 489.918 pasajeros transportados en vuelos domésticos entre todas las compañías que operan en Argentina. En el mismo período, las low cost ampliaron el servicio en el país y trasladaron más pasajeros que en 2021. En el período Enero-Febrero de 2022, la compañía JetSmart Argentina aumentó a 15% su cuota en el mercado doméstico mientras poseía el 7 por ciento dos años atrás; Flybondi subió a 14% la cuota de mercado frente al 9 por ciento en 2020. Aerolíneas Argentinas obtuvo un resultado operativo positivo en Enero y Febrero 2022, acumulando 15 millones de Dólares de ganancia entre ambos meses. Para Transporte estos números reflejan la reactivación del transporte aéreo y el crecimiento de la participación en el mercado local por parte de todas las compañías; pero resulta importante continuar profundizando el acercamiento con las líneas aéreas para establecer reglas más claras en el transporte aéreo y no beneficiar solamente a la aerolínea del Estado.
