Singapore Airlines detiene vuelo Quinta Libertad a Houston

Singapore Airlines ha anunciado el 12 de Agosto de 2024 que ha suspendido la ruta hacia Houston, Texas, Estados Unidos. El servicio conecta Singapur/SIN—Manchester/MAN—Houston/IAH. A partir del 1 de Abril de 2025, la aerolínea cesará sus operaciones en el tramo de Manchester (MAN) hacia Houston (IAH), reduciendo uno de sus vuelos de Quinta Libertad a Estados Unidos.

La aerolínea decidió cancelar la conexión de Houston como parada final en Manchester, Reino Unido. El abandono del destino Houston obedece a consecuencia del colapso de los mercados de petróleo y gas en el hub de Texas. Desde 2016, la aerolínea ha operado esta ruta única, sirviendo tanto al tráfico directo Singapur—Houston como ofreciendo una quinta opción de libertad entre el Reino Unido y los Estados Unidos. Un servicio de Airbus A350-900 opera cinco veces por semana con horarios cuidadosamente coordinados para facilitar conexiones fluidas. En Marzo 2024, la aerolínea volvió a operar la ruta cinco veces por semana para restaurar ese servicio a la frecuencia anterior a la pandemia. Ahora, no está claro si regresará la quinta ruta de libertad a Houston, pero la aerolínea mantendrá su servicio entre Singapur y Manchester, preservando la conectividad entre estas dos ciudades.

Singapore Airlines announced on August 12, 2024, that it has suspended the route to Houston, Texas, United States. The service connects Singapore/SIN—Manchester/MAN—Houston/IAH. Starting April 1, 2025, the airline will cease operations on the Manchester (MAN) to Houston (IAH) leg, reducing one of its Quinta Libertad flights to the United States.

The airline decided to cancel the Houston connection as a final stop in Manchester, United Kingdom. The abandonment of the Houston destination is due to the collapse of the oil and gas markets in the Texas hub. Since 2016, the airline has operated this unique route, serving both direct Singapore—Houston traffic and offering a fifth freedom option between the United Kingdom and the United States. An Airbus A350-900 service operates five times a week with carefully coordinated schedules to facilitate seamless connections. In March 2024, the airline resumed operating the route five times a week to restore that service to pre-pandemic frequency. Now, it is unclear whether the Fifth Freedom route to Houston will return, but the airline will maintain its service between Singapore and Manchester, preserving connectivity between these two cities.

Singapore outlook
The airline maintains a conservative route development in growth where it is having success. The move to the West is due to the worsening economic crisis in the Russian Federation, meanwhile Singapore Airlines decided to reroute service through Manchester.

Singapore Airlines will continue to offer two Fifth Freedom flights to the United States connecting from Singapore via Frankfort/FRA—New York/JFK and another connecting Tokyo/NRT—Los Angeles/LAX to Tokyo.
