Pedido por ocho aviones regionales E2-Jets última generación

La aerolínea Virgin Australia Airlines ha encomendado a la constructora Embraer SA ocho aviones E-190-E2 (8) de última generación que permitiría la actualización de su flota regional. La aerolínea con sede en Brisbane, Australia, no ha comunicado el precio de compra, pero los precios de entrega estimados se sitúan en torno a los US$ 300 millones de Dólares. El sector regional de Australia está viendo la llegada de aviones de nueva generación y ahora es el turno de Virgin Australia Regional de seleccionar el próximo tipo nuevo.

Virgin Australia ha estado estudiando la actualización de flota regional en un mercado muy competitivo como el australiano. El pedido en firme con Embraer de ocho E190-E2 permitirá reemplazar la flota de aviones Fokker 100 de larga duración. La aerolínea es actualmente una de las mayores compañías operadoras del avión jet de cien plazas holandés. Los nuevos aviones regionales de fuselaje estrecho Embraer E190-E2 como parte de su plan de renovación de la flota permitirá ser un reemplazo adecuado para la red de rutas.

El Embraer E190-E2 se configurará en los asientos de dos por dos característicos de Embraer y operará vuelos regionales para la aerolínea. La aeronave ha sido certificada para volar con mezclas de hasta un 50% de combustible de aviación sostenible (SAF). En los vuelos de prueba, el E2 ha demostrado la compatibilidad del motor con el 100% de SAF, lo que ayudará significativamente al portaaviones a alcanzar sus objetivos de emisiones en los próximos años.Los aviones Embraer E190-E2 estarán equipados con motores Pratt & Whitney PW1900G con una autonomía de alrededor de seis horas. Los E190-E2 complementarán los aviones de fuselaje estrecho más grandes de la aerolínea y tendrán su base en Perth, donde serán operados por Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA).

Las entregas de los nuevos aviones E190-E2 están programadas para comenzar en la segunda mitad de 2025. Serán recibidos en el nuevo hangar de mantenimiento de VARA en el Aeropuerto de Perth (PER), que se inaugurará a finales de este año 2024.

Modernización Virgin Australia
El pedido de Embraer es parte de un programa más extenso de crecimiento y renovación de la flota de todo el grupo que incluye la adquisición de nuevos aviones Boeing 737-8 MAX y la renovación de la flota 737 existente de la aerolínea.

El Viceprimer Ministro y Tesorero de Australia Occidental, Ministro de Transporte y Ministra de Turismo, Rita Saffioti, señaló cómo la orden beneficiará a la economía local: «Esta es una inversión importante en el sector de la aviación regional de nuestro estado y ayudará a aumentar la cantidad de empleos disponibles en Australia Occidental. Nuestro Gobierno está realizando enormes inversiones para hacer que los vuelos sean más asequibles que nunca para los australianos occidentales de la región, y nuestro apoyo a la aviación regional da confianza a aerolíneas como Virgin Australia para volver a invertir en Australia Occidental. Continuaremos dando prioridad a una aviación asequible, eficiente y confiable para las familias regionales».

Auge Embraer E2-JETs
El fabricante brasileño de aviones Embraer SA continúa con un auge de pedidos ascendentes hacia el 3Q2024, augurando un potencial de nuevos pedidos para el resto del año en curso. El fabricante de aviones ha aumentado constantemente sus entregas de aviones y ha asegurado una serie de nuevos pedidos en los últimos meses.

El anuncio de Virgin Australia sigue a una cartera de pedidos ascendentes. En Abril 2024, American Airlines realizó un mega-pedido por 90 Embraer E175, con derechos de compra de 43 aviones adicionales. LOT Polish Airlines, el cliente de lanzamiento original de la línea E-Jets, ha ordenado en Mayo 2024 a Embraer con el anuncio de tres aviones E195-E2 (3) de nueva generación a la flota, el primero de los cuales se entregó menos de tres meses después. En Junio 2024, Mexicana de Aviación realizó un pedido de diez aviones E190-E2 (10) y diez E195-E2 (10). En conjunto, estos pedidos han elevado la cartera de pedidos del fabricante a un máximo histórico.

El anuncio del pedido por parte de Virgin Australia ha permitido consolidar al constructor brasileño como el tercer fabricante mundial en 2024. La cartera de clientes operadores de E2-Jets casi se habrá duplicado en los últimos dos años, permitiendo la expansión de la línea E2-JETs en todo el mundo.

Sobre la base de los veinte años de excelencia operativa de los E-Jets de primera generación, la aerodinámica mejorada, el novedoso diseño de las alas y las nuevas tecnologías del E190-E2 ofrecen mejoras significativas en las emisiones de carbono y el consumo de combustible. Ha sido certificado para volar con mezclas de hasta un 50% de SAF y ha demostrado a través de vuelos de prueba la operatividad del motor con 100% de SAF.

Embraer está comprometida con el desarrollo de productos, soluciones y tecnologías para contribuir al objetivo de la industria de la aviación de lograr cero emisiones netas para 2050. Embraer tiene como objetivo ser carbono neutral para 2040 y lograr un crecimiento neutro en carbono a partir de 2022. Planea implementar un 25% de uso de combustible de aviación sostenible (SAF) en sus operaciones para 2040 y fuentes de energía 100% renovables para 2030.

Desde que el primer Bandeirante surcó los cielos de Australia en 1978, Embraer ha establecido firmemente su presencia allí con cerca de 50 aviones que operan actualmente en el país, lo que la convierte en una de las flotas de E-Jets más grandes de la región de Asia-Pacífico.

Order for eight latest generation E2-Jets regional aircraft

Virgin Australia Airlines has ordered eight latest generation E-190-E2 (8) aircraft from the manufacturer Embraer SA, which will allow the update of its regional fleet. The airline based in Brisbane, Australia, has not announced the purchase price, but the estimated delivery prices are around US$ 300 million. The regional sector in Australia is seeing the arrival of new generation aircraft and now it is the turn of Virgin Australia Regional to select the next new type.

Virgin Australia has been studying the update of its regional fleet in a very competitive market such as the Australian one. The firm order with Embraer for eight E190-E2s will allow the replacement of the fleet of long-lived Fokker 100 aircraft. The airline is currently one of the largest operators of the Dutch 100-seat jet aircraft. The new Embraer E190-E2 narrow-body regional aircraft as part of its fleet renewal plan will enable it to be a suitable replacement for the route network.

The Embraer E190-E2 will be configured in Embraer’s signature two-by-two seating and will operate regional flights for the airline. The aircraft has been certified to fly on blends of up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). In test flights, the E2 has demonstrated engine compatibility with 100% SAF, which will significantly help the carrier achieve its emissions targets in the coming years. The Embraer E190-E2 aircraft will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engines with an endurance of around six hours. The E190-E2s will complement the airline’s larger narrow-body aircraft and will be based in Perth, where they will be operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA).

Deliveries of the new E190-E2 aircraft are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2025. They will be received at VARA’s new maintenance hangar at Perth Airport (PER), which is due to open later this year 2024.

Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka noted how the new aircraft would improve performance, reliability, and customer comfort in Western Australia: «When the new E190-E2 enters service from October 2025, it will become the first new aircraft in the Western Australian charter market this century. The E190-E2 is the most fuel-efficient aircraft in its segment and will reduce emissions by approximately 30 per cent compared to the outgoing F100. These aircraft also feature significantly lower noise profiles and improved passenger comfort. When the E190-E2 joins the fleet late next year, it will predominantly operate charter flights for Western Australia. VARA, reinforcing its position as a leading operator in the Western Australian charter market. This is a major vote of confidence by Virgin Australia Group in our charter business and the Western Australian market”.

Virgin Australia Modernisation
The Embraer order is part of a wider group-wide fleet growth and renewal programme that includes the acquisition of new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft and the renewal of the airline’s existing 737 fleet.

Western Australia Deputy Premier and Treasurer, Minister for Transport and Minister for Tourism, Rita Saffioti, noted how the order will benefit the local economy: “This is a significant investment in our state’s regional aviation sector and will help increase the number of jobs available in Western Australia. Our Government is making huge investments to make flying more affordable than ever for regional Western Australians, and our support for regional aviation gives airlines like Virgin Australia confidence to invest back in Western Australia. We will continue to prioritize affordable, efficient, and reliable aviation for regional families».

Embraer E2-JETs boom
Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer SA continues an upward order boom heading into 3Q2024, heralding the potential for new orders for the remainder of the current year. The aircraft manufacturer has steadily increased its aircraft deliveries and has secured a number of new orders in recent months.

Virgin Australia’s announcement follows an upward order backlog. In April 2024, American Airlines placed a mega-order for 90 Embraer E175s, with purchase rights for an additional 43 aircraft. LOT Polish Airlines, the original launch customer for the E-Jets line, has ordered three new-generation E195-E2 (3) aircraft from Embraer in May 2024 with the announcement of three to be added to the fleet, the first of which was delivered less than three months later. In June 2024, Mexicana de Aviación placed an order for ten E190-E2 (10) and ten E195-E2 (10) aircraft. Together, these orders have raised the manufacturer’s order book to an all-time high.

The announcement of the order by Virgin Australia has allowed the Brazilian manufacturer to consolidate its position as the world’s third-largest manufacturer in 2024. The E2-Jets operator customer base will have almost doubled in the last two years, allowing the expansion of the E2-JET line worldwide.

Building on twenty years of operational excellence from the first-generation E-Jets, the E190-E2’s improved aerodynamics, novel wing design, and new technologies deliver significant improvements in carbon emissions and fuel consumption. It has been certified to fly on blends of up to 50% SAF and has demonstrated through test flights the engine’s operability on 100% SAF.

Embraer is committed to developing products, solutions, and technologies to contribute to the aviation industry’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Embraer aims to be carbon-neutral by 2040 and achieve carbon-neutral growth from 2022. It plans to implement 25% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) use in its operations by 2040 and 100% renewable energy sources by 2030.

Since the first Bandeirante took to the skies of Australia in 1978, Embraer has firmly established its presence there with close to 50 aircraft currently operating in the country, making it one of the largest fleets of E-Jets in the Asia-Pacific region.
