Breeze Airways intensifica competencia con Avelo Airlines

Breeze Airways abrirá sus primeras rutas desde el aeropuerto de Tweed New Haven (HVN) antes de fin de año 2024, lo que marca la entrada de la aerolínea en un mercado dominado por Avelo Airlines.

Breeze Airways will open its first routes from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) before the end of 2024, marking the airline’s entry into a market dominated by Avelo Airlines.

The expansion, which will begin on December 10, 2024, will see Breeze launch ten new nonstop routes from the southern Connecticut airport, including popular Florida destinations such as Fort Myers, Orlando, Vero Beach, and West Palm Beach. Charleston, Jacksonville, Norfolk, Raleigh-Durham, Richmond, and Sarasota/Bradenton round out the additions. Additionally, a «through service» from New Orleans will also be offered.

The move directly challenges Avelo, which has maintained its main East Coast base at HVN since its launch three years ago. Analysis of OAG Schedules Analyser data shows that Breeze will compete head-to-head with Avelo on six of the ten routes.

“From ‘day one,’ our playbook has included significant growth throughout the Northeast region of the U.S. due to high population density and limited nonstop travel options. Avelo Airlines currently offers 26 routes from Tweed-New Haven and around 16,300 weekly departure seats using a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft. Earlier this week, the airline announced plans to add a twice-weekly nonstop route to New Orleans beginning November 14, 2024, and increase service to Puerto Rico this winter. The airline will double its flight frequency to San Juan to four per week.

Utah-based Breeze Airways, which is transitioning to an Airbus A220-300 fleet, currently serves Hartford Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Connecticut, where it operates one base and serves eighteen destinations today. The addition of HVN increases its presence to eight points in New England.

The new rivalry at HVN follows Avelo’s announcement in July to begin service from BDL, where it will base two aircraft this fall. Seven routes will launch from Hartford, including the airline’s first two international services: to Cancun, Mexico, and Montego Bay, Jamaica. Breeze has since responded by confirming its plans to further grow its network from BDL and says it plans to add international flights in the coming months once it has government approval to do so.
