Sun Country Airlines recibe entusiasta bienvenida en Manchester

La aerolínea de ultra bajo costo Sun Country Airlines con base en Minneapolis, Minnesota, Estados Unidos, es la segunda aerolínea en llegar al Aeropuerto de Manchester, Boston. El Aeropuerto Regional de Manchester-Boston es un aeropuerto público localizado a 5 kilómetros al sur del distrito financiero de Manchester, Nuevo Hampshire.

La aerolínea inauguró el 22 de Agosto de 2024 la nueva ruta Minneapolis-St. Paul/MSP—Manchester-Boston/MHT, desembarcando en un nuevo destino en la costa Este de Estados Unidos. El Director del Aeropuerto de Manchester-Boston, Ted Kitchens, dijo que esperaba que un desarrollo importante del aeropuerto en la ampliación de sus operaciones y presencia en la región, siendo el servicio de Sun Country solo el último hito bajo su liderazgo. «Creo que el objetivo era ayudar a cambiar la trayectoria que heredé, y creo que lo estamos logrando. Ultra-low-cost carrier Sun Country Airlines, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, is the second airline to arrive at Manchester Airport, Boston. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is a public airport located 5 kilometers south of the financial district of Manchester, New Hampshire.

Sun Country Airlines is the fourth airline to arrive from Manchester (MHT) since 2021, marking one of the most distant flight routes. That includes JetBlue Airways which will complete the new airlines in January 2025.

Colton Snow, Marketing Director for Sun Country, said the influence of the Twin Cities encourages the airline to seek out tourists. Minneapolis and Saint Paul, in the State of Minnesota, are often called the Twin Cities.

“At Sun Country, we’re really focused on leisure travel. This is people who are largely paying with their own money to go places, go on vacation and visit family”, Colton Snow said after the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the inaugural flight.

Colton Snow, who made his first visit to New Hampshire aboard the Thursday 8/29 flight, said there was a lot of excitement about a bridge to the state, which offers Midwesterners a “gateway to New England” for places like fall foliage and New Englanders affordable flights to Minnesota. With the addition of Manchester, Sun Country now flies to 108 airports, creating a total footprint of 122 destinations for the company, due in part to its continued successful expansion to onboard offerings for passengers.

“We have a really comfortable experience with streaming and entertainment on board, charging ports, reclining seats and complimentary beverages”, Colton Snow said.

At the welcome event, Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais said in a speech that the airline’s presence is also a sign of growth for the city. «This is just more proof that Manchester is on the move. We’re very excited that (Sun Country) has placed their trust in us, and we’re certainly going to reciprocate that in the future», said Jay Ruais.

Manchester-Boston Airport Director Ted Kitchens said he expected major development from the airport in expanding its operations and presence in the region, with Sun Country’s service being just the latest milestone under his leadership. «I think the goal was to help change the trajectory that I inherited, and I think we’re accomplishing that. Obviously, the pandemic set us back a little bit, but we’re moving past those numbers and that inertia», the airport executive said.

Ted Kitchens has said that Manchester Airport’s management has remained strong following the effects of the global pandemic, while the large demographic changes seen with the migration of real estate have been a driving force for progress. Data from a local company that conducts migration studies has been presented as revealing data to airlines such as Sun Country to show statistics of people coming from states outside the Northeast, such as California and Colorado. «That really opened their eyes, because you can connect through Minneapolis to those destinations out west. They knew that if families moved, even if they came back (to New England), they could still have stayed in communities in California or Colorado for a long time», said the Manchester Airport manager.

Manchester Airport currently has eight of the thirteen major certified U.S. carriers, and he hopes that additional flights through existing airlines or more new airlines can bring MHT’s connections further west, with appropriate passenger support.

«It’s really up to the community now to make sure their voices are heard by how they book their flights. We used to have connections in Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas, and those desires (to reconnect) are still there, but it’s going to take us a little bit longer to get there again», concludes Ted Kitchens.
