Helene tocó tierra en la región de Big Bend de Florida el Jueves 26/07 por la noche como un huracán masivo de Categoría 4, el huracán más fuerte que haya tocado tierra en Big Bend en la historia. Desde entonces, Helene se ha debilitado a tormenta tropical y ahora está avanzando a través de Georgia y las Carolinas, trayendo lluvias catastróficas e inundaciones repentinas potencialmente mortales a medida que la tormenta avanza hacia Tennessee.

Hurricane Helene brought historic storm surge, says Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, giving an update on the damage caused by the storm as well as search and rescue efforts in his state. Flash flood emergencies are in effect in Georgia and the Carolinas.

Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on Thursday night, 7/26 as a massive Category 4 hurricane, the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the Big Bend in recorded history. Helene has since weakened to a tropical storm and is now moving through Georgia and the Carolinas, bringing catastrophic rainfall and potentially deadly flash flooding as the storm moves toward Tennessee.

More than seven hundred flights have been cancelled across the country on Friday, September 27, 2024, due to Hurricane Helene. The airports facing the most cancellations are Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Tampa International Airport in Florida.
