La Oficina Central de Investigación (CBI) ha registrado una investigación preliminar para investigar irregularidades en la fusión de Air India e Indian Airlines. La CBI ha alegado que la fusión de las dos compañías aéreas propiedad del gobierno causó pérdidas de miles de crores de rupias. También se han presentado tres primeros informes de información (FIR) sobre la compra de 111 aeronaves, el arrendamiento de aviones y la renuncia de rutas rentables de Air India.

La agencia también investigará los asuntos del ministerio de aviación civil durante el anterior régimen de la UPA. Los temas incluyen la compra de 50 aviones Boeing para Air India y la entrega de lucrativas rutas aéreas internacionales a aerolíneas privadas.

Fuentes de la agencia dijeron que los casos se basan en un informe del CAG presentado al Parlamento en 2011 y más tarde al Comité de Cuentas Parlamentarias. Ambos informes señalaron irregularidades en el proceso de adquisición que pudieron haber conducido a pérdidas. A principios de este año, la Corte Suprema también había pedido a la CBI que completara la investigación en junio.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a preliminary enquiry to probe irregularities in the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines. The CBI has alleged that the merger of the two government-owned airlines caused losses of thousands of crores of rupees. Three first information reports (FIRs) to enquire about the purchase of 111 aircrafts, leasing of planes and the giving up of profit-making routes by Air India have also been filed.

The agency will also probe affairs of the civil aviation ministry during the earlier UPA regime. Issues include purchase of 50 Boeing aircraft for Air India and handing over of lucrative international airline routes to private airlines.

Agency sources said the cases are built around a CAG report submitted to the Parliament in 2011 and later to Parliamentary Accounts Committee. Both reports pointed out irregularities in the acquisition process which may have led to losses.Earlier this year the Supreme Court had also asked the CBI to complete the probe by June. A \ W
