AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Bombardier presents report for Mobile

Bombardier submitted a report for the CSeries aircraft construction line at Airbus Mobile, in Alabama

A presentation by Bombardier reports that the new CSeries assembly line proposed in Mobile could create 400 to 500 direct jobs in the area, and would represent an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Airbus, a European consortium and Bombardier, based in Canada, announced in October 2017 that they had agreed to form a partnership to build the passenger planes of Bombardier CSeries. Airbus CEO Tom Enders said that «we intend to build a second final assembly line in Mobile, Alabama, serving US customers». Many details of how that will be developed were not clear at that time and will remain that way a month later. A construction schedule has not been revealed nor are there financial arrangements for the project.

ASSEMBLY LINE AIRBUS IN MOBILE, ALABAMA

New stage in Mobile, Alabama
The publicly available part of Bombardier’s recent submission to the US International Trade Commission. UU It does not answer many questions, but it does provide some projected numbers. According to the document, «Bombardier’s current estimates predict that the agreement with Airbus, if approved, would create more than 2,000 permanent jobs in the United States. The breakdown of 1,950 to 2,450 permanent jobs is as follows: 400 to 500 jobs direct, from 550 to 700 indirect jobs and from 1,000 to 1,250 induced jobs». Direct jobs would be people employed by the plant, and indirect jobs would be people who work for companies that provide materials or services to the plant. The jobs created because those people spend money in the community are induced jobs.

The report also estimates that the establishment of the necessary CSeries facilities would create 1,900 direct jobs, 1,000 indirect jobs and 3,000 jobs induced during construction.

The presentation adds that «according to Bombardier’s estimates, the creation of these facilities would contribute more than U$D 300 million of foreign direct investment in the United States». A Montreal Gazette story about the presentation interprets that, in the sense that Bombardier plans to spend U$D 300 million to build the assembly line. Attempts to contact a Bombardier representative to obtain additional details were not immediately successful.

When the project was first announced, the overall impression in Alabama was that, essentially, Airbus planned to build another assembly line next to the existing one.

«There is no greater example of confidence than when a company of the caliber of Airbus decides to reinvest in Mobile», said Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson at the time. «Airbus chose Mobile to grow its new market and build a second final assembly line that exemplifies our strong partnership, and it was that strong partnership that brought Airbus to Mobile in the first place».

In addition, federal representative Bradley Byrne issued a statement in which he said he wanted to «share my deep appreciation with Airbus for its continued investment in Mobile and our community». A \ W

C919 completa 1º vuelo larga distancia

AW | 2017 11 10 18:10 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

C919 completes first long distance flight

China’s C919 passenger plane developed its first long-haul flight on Friday, a milestone that according to its manufacturer marks the passage of the plane to an airworthiness certification phase

The Commercial Aircraft Corp of China Ltd (COMAC) said in a statement that the COMAC C919 flew for 2 hours and 23 minutes from Shanghai to the central Chinese city of Xi’an, traveling more than 1,300 km (800 miles) and reaching an altitude of 7,800 meters (25,590 feet).

The plane, which China wants to compete with the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320, is a symbol of China’s civil aerospace ambitions. He will remain in Xi’an to undergo new tests, said the aircraft manufacturer.

«This ferry flight indicates that the C919 has the ability to fly interurban routes», the statement said in the statement. «It, marks the step towards research and development of flight tests and airworthiness certification work». The last flight is the sixth test of the plane, since it flew for the first time on May 5. Analysts had questioned the time gaps between previous test flights.

COMAC aims to obtain certification for the plane from Chinese regulators, as well as from the European aviation security regulator, which in April agreed to begin the certification process. COMAC said it plans to eventually test six C919 aircraft and that it will make the first flight for its second plane later this year. The aircraft currently has 27 customers who have placed orders and commitments for 730 jet aircraft. A \ W

Pilotos Avianca suspenden huelga

Resultado de imagen para Avianca aeropuerto bogotá

AW | 2017 11 10 17:55 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Avianca pilots suspend strike

More than half of the Avianca pilots in Colombia decided to suspend the 51-day strike

The striking pilots will return to their work activities in the next 72 hours, a measure that will allow the airline to normalize its air operations, announced Friday the union that groups the crew.

The cessation of activities of some 700 unionized pilots in the Colombian Association of Civil Aviators (ACDAC) began on September 20, 2017 after they failed to reach agreements with Avianca, in a labor dispute that included wage increases and other benefits that the company considered exaggerated.

«ACDAC and the unionized civilian aviators, as a result of the intervention of the ombudsman, have decided to suspend the cessation of activities, resume air operations 72 hours after the signing of this document and thus normalize their work activities», said an act signed by the pilots’ union.

The mediation of the ombudsman, Carlos Alfonso Negret, was decisive for the pilots to suspend the strike, even though Avianca did not respond to the call to participate in the meetings. Negret undertook to ensure respect for the labor rights of the pilots who participated in the strike and who fear reprisals by the company. Immediately there was no reaction from Avianca to the decision of the aviators. According to the labor laws of Colombia, the cessation of activities could not exceed 60 days and the labor dispute must be settled by an arbitration tribunal.

The pilots’ strike reduced the operation of the airline by more than 50 percent and the movement of passengers inside Colombia and on its international flights. In the midst of the cessation of activities, a court declared the strike illegal, but the union appealed to a court, while the government convened an arbitration tribunal and the pilots ignored an ultimatum from the airline to reintegrate their activities and avoid prosecution. disciplines that could end in layoffs.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

First assembly of the Airbus A321NEO ACF with an increased weight of 97 tons

The production of the first Airbus A321NEO ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) with an increased weight of 97 tons and with the new door configuration has ended at the Airbus factory in Hamburg, Germany.

Improvements of the A321NEO ACF
The new Airbus A321NEO ACF-1 left the factory has some significant changes that will improve the performance as a mid-range aircraft. Among the most notable modifications incorporated in the new A321NEO are an increased weight for the take-offs in 97 tons, allowing a better development of operations with extended range. A new configuration of the passenger cabin, making modifications to the A321NEO, eliminating the front No. 2 doors to accommodate more passengers or a better distribution of the classes. In addition, the first emergency exits on the wings are not eliminated as was originally established, keeping both exits on both sides of the A321NEO fuselage. Door No. 3 will also be modified, with four frames delaying doors No. 3, which are behind the wing assembly. The doors Nº 1 and Nº 4, those located in the front and final ends of the cabin did not suffer modifications. It would incorporate the option of a third fuel tank for greater flight autonomy.

AW-A321NEO-ACF1-2

As it is a variant «flexible» will allow customers to request a configuration of the aircraft depending on the requirements of the airlines. For the new configuration, Premium Aerotec, the German company responsible for the production of the so-called Section 17 of the fuselage, the fuselage behind the wing assembly, had to modify the design of the same as well as the corresponding section of the center of the aircraft. The new design of section No. 17 has gone from measuring 9 meters in length to 12 meters in length.

In Airbus they point out that the elimination of doors No. 2 allows for an unobstructed cabin from the nose to the wing, which gives airlines more space to configure their business classes without the limitation that these doors mean.

The third deposit is installed in the cargo hold next to the other two that are already offered as an option. Each of these tanks has the shape and occupies the space of a baggage container.

The new configuration of the A321NEO ACF is offered as a standard production option from the year 2020. The first A321NEO with this configuration of doors will be delivered in the second quarter of 2018 while the first A321NEO LR (ACF-2), the denomination of the long-range version, will be delivered. will be delivered in the last quarter of 2018.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Wow Air seeks investments for growth

The Icelandic airline Wow Air is planning its expansion

MamáWow Air enjoys being a low cost airline with profitability and is planning to incorporate new aircraft for a sector that is moving towards greater consolidation

Skúli Mogensen, the founder and CEO of the Icelandic low-cost airline, wants to increase the number of passengers by 2020 by six million.

Wow Air is a young Icelandic airline that has become famous for its transatlantic flights at low prices, strategically using Iceland as a base to fly passengers from the most extreme length of Europe to the North American coast.

Skúli Mogensen, is looking for a rapid expansion. Wow Air uses Airbus A330-300 aircraft for its transatlantic routes, and has firm orders for four Airbus A330NEO‘s wide-body, which will allow it to expand its routes beyond its borders. WOW air operates three Airbus A320 aircraft, eleven Airbus A321 aircraft and three Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The fleet will increase to 24 aircraft by the end of 2018.

For WOW air flights to North America, the airline operates the Airbus A321, the largest member of the Airbus A320 family. With a stretched fuselage, the A321 allows for wider passenger seats and more legroom, which is key to passenger comfort. The Airbus A321 also offers a radical change in fuel efficiency and its advanced technology allows for a lower maintenance cost.

The WOW air routes in California are served by three long-range Airbus A330 aircraft, the first wide-body aircraft in the WOW air fleet and the largest aircraft operated by an Icelandic operator, with capacity for up to 350 passengers.

The WOW fleet will increase to 24 aircraft by the end of 2018. Among the additions will be four new A330-900neo wide-body aircraft and two A321ceo aircraft. The A330-900neo includes Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 new generation engines and aerodynamic improvements that, in combination, offer a 14% reduction in fuel consumption per seat, making it the lowest cost wide-body aircraft and more economical of the market.

«Finding a partner that can help us achieve strategically instead of just a financial partner, could make a lot of sense», he told an audience earlier this week at the World Travel Market in London. The company could look for an associated airline, although in a separate interview with Reuters it suggested that an initial public offering was another option. Wow Air has had interest from investors in the past, said Morgensen, and given the profitability of the airline, it is likely that there is great interest on the part of large European groups.

Launched in 2011, it’s not just Wow Air’s purple livery that helps it stand out. Morgensen has been determined to do things differently.

He sees Wow Air as a technology company, rather than a transport company, and wants it to be «the first airline in the world in which secondary income exceeds income per seat». This means that Wow Air would generate more money with the sale of extras, such as luggage, car rentals and hotels, than with the actual price of the base ticket.

The airline is able to create a market where other airlines might think it does not exist. He is also happy to leave airports that do not work like Bristol in the UK.

Wow Air will soon start flying from the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik to the cities of Cleveland, Cincinnati and St Louis in the US, routes that go unnoticed, which are not necessarily large international traffic hubs. The strategy to fly to these secondary destinations is that they are not on the east coast, which according to Moregnsen is becoming very crowded due to a new generation of narrow body aircraft that can fly much further. Norwegian is already experimenting with routes between small airports in the United Kingdom and the USA. as Edinburgh to Connecticut / Hartford-Bradley. «As a result, when you enter next year, you will see a series of new destinations from us that are a little more inland, a little more east and west», Morgensen said.

Something he will not do in 2018 is to spend money on entertainment on board. «I do not think the on-board entertainment system is a generator of money for anyone, if you take the cost of the weight of the installation and everything else», says Skúli Mogensen. The airline states that it offers nothing more than «the thrill of sitting on top of the sky and enjoying the flight». A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

US airlines increase ops costs for 2018

The largest airlines in the US face higher operating costs by 2018

Inflation moved to costs has been a major setback for almost all US airlines. After rising costs in 2017, the country’s largest major airlines are no exception. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are offering inflation forecasts for unit costs, excluding fuel, ranging from 3% to 5.5%.

Factors of the increase in costs
The factors that drive the cost pressure of US airlines are varied, including the increase in labor costs, higher depreciation expenses and amortization.

American Airlines and Delta Air Lines are committed to keeping their unit cost inflation of 2018 at 2% or less, while United, for now, is refraining from offering a cost forecast for next year. At one point, United Airlines believed it could offer a unit cost performance of less than 1% growth from 2018 to 2020, but analysts and investors are becoming increasingly skeptical that the airline can meet those goals after a series of errors in 2017.

American Airlines is pushing a longer-term view of cost inflation, noting that the industry as a whole is catching up on important and necessary investments in airport infrastructure and employee salaries and benefits. The airline believes that once those investments are complete, the pressure on costs in those areas should decrease. A \ W

30º Aniversario de Aeromar

AW | 2017 11 09 17:47 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

30th Anniversary of Aeromar

Aeromar celebrates its thirtieth anniversary as Mexico’s regional airline

In its consolidation process, the regional airline Aeromar has not only bet on a change of business culture, but also a state-of-the-art renovation that includes fleet modernization, product innovation, route and market expansion, affordable rates, among other advantages.

Aeromar is in the process of fleet renewal. The new aircraft of French-Italian builder Avións Transport Règional, ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 between 48 and 72 seats respectively, are manufactured in Toulouse, France. These aircraft are environmentally friendly because they save 40% on fuel consumption and offer comfort and safety, with the most modern technical advances made French-Italian.

«These changes will allow us to close 2017 with an increase of close to 25 percent in the flow of passengers transported, compared to 2016», said Andres Fabre, CEO of the airline, who nevertheless said that this process does not conclude, since the airline will continue its transformation and offer a wide catalog of products and services of high quality that will allow them to increase their market. The director stressed that the airline is a strategic player in the connectivity of the country, since it detonates tourism and economic growth in new routes, and keeps connected to many destinations where it has been operating for 30 years.

Aeromar has projected the opening of new destinations and unique routes where the market only allows a regional airline. Among them, the Mayan and Pacific routes, which allow domestic and foreign travelers to travel with attractive rates the best tourist areas of the country. These routes are planned in circuits specially designed to interconnect destinations of the same zone, but that lacked this air link. In addition, other products have been developed, such as the Aero-Mayan Pass, Resident’s Club and Mileage Plus Mileage Plus loyalty program. From December 16 Aeromar will increase its operations from McAllen to Mexico City from five to seven. This is part of its product and service innovation strategy.

Aeromar continues to fly for 30 years in an uninterrupted way, saving many obstacles in the air. Its consolidation will allow it to consolidate itself in a very competitive market, as it is the one of Mexico. A \ W
