Mahan Air acusada de terrorismo

AW | 2017 11 09 08:07 | AVIATION SAFETY / AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Mahan Air accused of terrorism

New report published by an Iranian opposition group claims that the Mahan Air airline of the Islamic Republic of Iran is run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and its Qods Force

The new report published by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) states that the so-called private airline Mahan Air, is not commercial, and in fact functions as a tool for Iran’s expansionist policies. President Donald Trump sanctioned IRGC last month for supporting terrorism. The report entitled «An IRGC entity Qods Force operates under the guise of a private company», stated that one of the most important findings «was that Mahan Air Corporation not only cooperates with the IRGC and the Qods Force, but is fully owned». and controlled by them. This force is commanded by Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, this is the same Qods Force that was sanctioned by the United States for providing material support to the Taliban and other terrorist organizations in 2007.

The report describes the critical role Mahan Air plays, along with other Iranian carriers, in «the interference of Iran in the countries of the region, including the transfer of personnel and logistics to the IRGC and the proxy militias».

The current Mahan Air air fleet, as of 2017, includes 62 commercial aircraft and flies commercially to 41 destinations in 24 countries on three continents. The main destinations include Paris, Milan and Munich in Europe, and others in Asia and Africa, where front companies have been created to bypass sanctions.

The report also describes the complex relationship between Soleimani, the commander of the Qods Force and some senior IRGC commanders who fought with him during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s. These parties operated in the same region in Iran: Kerman, the place where Mahan Air was registered for the first time. Interestingly, all those mentioned in the report now hold senior positions at Mahan Air while they are still IRGC members.

Soona Samsami, representative of NCRI in Washington DC, said Mahan Air has transported forces, logistics and weapons for IRGC and Hezbollah between Iran, Syria and Lebanon. She said: «It is mainly used by the IRGC in general and the Qods Force specifically in the transfer of forces and equipment and regional mercenaries such as Hezbollah to Syria and Lebanon. This airline has played the most active role in the last six years during the war. in Syria for such transports».

Emanuele Ottolenghi, who has nothing to do with the publication of the NCRI report, is an expert on sanctions from Iran and its aviation sector, said: «Mahan’s executive director, Hamid Arabnejad Khanooki, and Commander Qassem Soleimani of the QF (Force Qods) are Kermanis, and Arabnejad is a former commander of IRGC, not a formal relationship, but based on informal ties or origin, militancy and ideology».

Ottolenghi is a member of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies in Washington DC He has written extensively on non-nuclear sanctions against Iran and has testified to Congress on the subject. He noted Executive Order 13224 signed by President George W. Bush shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks that gives the administration powerful tools to deal with the financing of terrorism. «It allows them to guide facilitators and suppliers of support material to Mahan Air, and any company that sells parts, offering maintenance services, can be hit by fines or sanctions, as well as those who operate as cargo sellers, general sales and agents. The same goes for the providers of ground services at airports, which include fuel supply, baggage handling, crew services, catering, etc. In the same way, the administration can sanction the Iranian airports from which they depart. the flights of Mahan’s troops to Syria, it can sanction the company supplying Mahan with fuel in Iran, and if you know the banks involved in the management of payments in Europe for Mahan Air’s transactions in these services, you can sanction them in such a way. similar or at least impose fines, in short, much more can be done» he concluded. Últimas novedades del Boeing 737-8 MAX de Aerolíneas Argentinas

AW | 2017 11 09 00:10 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Latest news Boeing 737-8 Aerolíneas MAX

Aerolineas-Argentinas-logoThe Boeing 737-8 MAX of Aerolíneas Argentinas is carrying out the last tests before its delivery to the first operator in Latin America and Argentina

Aerolíneas Argentinas will receive its first Boeing 737-8 MAX before the end of November 2017, making the first airline in Latin America and Argentina as the operator of the latest and newest generation of line 737.

Arrival of the «MAX» to Argentina
Aerolíneas has informed that the delivery flight of the Boeing 737-8 MAX should depart in a first stage from Seattle, Washington on November 24, heading to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The second stage of the trip will complete the aircraft ferry the next day to Buenos Aires, Argentina. The reception of the Boeing 737-8 MAX is expected in Buenos Aires, but the date for the arrival ceremony is not yet established.

Negotiating for more «MAX»
The airline of Argentina has renegotiated the terms of the contract with the leasing company Avolon Aerospace Leasing, where 11 firm orders of 737-800NG aircraft have been converted to the most current variant of the Boeing 737-8 MAX.

The incorporation of the new Boeing 737-8 MAX will improve the implementation of new technologies, lower fuel consumption, better resources, greater operating range, among other advantages.

The new routes assigned to the new Boeing 737-8 MAX are mainly for the Caribbean and northeastern Brazil, among other regional routes. The main Argentine airports of departure will be from Buenos Aires (Ezeiza) and Córdoba.

The General Manager of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Mario Dell ‘Acqua, expressed the benefits of the Boeing 737-8 MAX: «It will give our operation a direct 25% increase in efficiency, we can reach regional destinations with a single aisle aircraft, maximizing the cost-benefit equation for those routes».

Long-distance market
Aerolíneas intend to decommission the long-haul fleet. Although a final decision has not been made on which aircraft will direct the long distance offer in the coming years, the Airbus A340-300 that currently fly for the company are slowly retiring from service. On November 5, 2017, the 21-year-old A340 LV-CSE was commercialized, and embarked on its final journey to Victorville, California. It arrived at the logistics depot of Southern California on November 6, 2017. After operating a total of 13 A340 (A340-200/300), Aerolíneas Argentinas will maintain only four until its final withdrawal in 2020.

The average life of the Airbus A340 are in 20.8 years. But Aerolíneas Argentinas has renewed its long-haul aeronautical park by adding Airbus A330-200, with an average age of 10.4 years. Diego García, Commercial Director of Aerolíneas Argentinas, stated earlier this year that the long distance replacement should be selected at the latest during the first 1Q2018.

Domestic flights
The domestic flights of Aerolíneas / Austral mark an occupation factor of more than 80%, which has allowed the company to reduce the total amount of subsidies it has requested from the Argentine government from AR $ 300 million in 2016 to AR $ 170 million in 2017 and a projection of AR $ 90 million in 2018. California Pacific Airlines Embraer Emb170

AW | 2017 11 08 13:13 | AIRLINES

The Commercial Director of Carlsbad, Paul WJ Hook, said that an unspecified «58-year airline» had been acquired with an official announcement to be delivered on November 16, 2017. This would allow the new California Pacific Airlines airline to be homologated based on a existing company certified by Part 121 of the United States.

According to Paul Hook, the CEO of California Pacific Airlines aims to start operations in April 2018 using a fleet of four Embraer four E145 and two E170.

The McClellan-Palomar Airport will be the base of operations of the new airline California Pacific Airlines. The airport is located 5 km southeast of Carlsbad in San Diego County, California. The network of destinations that will connect the new airline include Carlsbad to Phoenix Sky Harbor, Las Vegas McCarran, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, and San Jose Cabo, Mexico, as the first international destination.

Resultado de imagen para California Pacific AirlinesThe airline California Pacific Airlines will offer that «Economy class passengers will not see much difference with the Executive class, our price ticket will be competitive with other airlines that provide services in the area», said Paul Hook.

The original idea of businessman Ted Vallas, California Pacific Airlines has suffered at least three unsuccessful attempts to acquire an Air Operator Certificate (ACC) from the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States. (FAA). The last attempt, in 2013, was suspended after a shortage of FAA labor caused by budget cuts.

As such, the purchase of an existing airline replete with all the necessary permits and certificates is proving to be an increasingly popular shortcut to commercialize among US-based startups. As recently reported, USGlobal Airways (formerly Baltia Air Lines) is in the process of acquiring Songbird Airways (SGB, Lakeland) as part of its own separate bid to start commercial services.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aerolíneas will reduce by 90 US$ million by 2018

logo_AerolineasThe CEO of Aerolíneas reported that it will reduce the subsidies for the Airlines Group by less than 90 US$ million

The losses of US$ 6 million left by the unemployment in Aerolíneas Argentinas tense the relationship with unions. The measure that immobilized the fleet of Aerolíneas/Austral* stopped flights for 24 hours last week, had a cost equivalent to 6.6% of the subsidy that the company will need to operate in 2018.

In less than a week, the five aeronautical unions in conflict in Argentina (UPSA, APLA, UALA, APA and APTA) ended a 24-hour strike that paralyzed all Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral flights and affected some 40,000 passengers who were stranded in airports across the country and the world. And then, they canceled seven trips abroad.

In numbers, the leadership of the Aerolíneas Argentinas / Austral Group wants to close the parity in a percentage that does not exceed 20% with trigger clause for inflation, where it starts at 16% to which would add an additional non-remunerative. On the side of the unions, the floor to negotiate is 27% increase and remunerative.

The Minister of Transport, Guillermo Dietrich, questioned the union delegates for taking the passengers hostage. The measure of force that paralyzed not only the local flights but left the planes on the ground abroad was «excessive» and showed greater aggressiveness than normal.

For the CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Mario Dell’Aqua, the main problem with unions is not wage bargaining, something he says is done through «normal» channels but he understands that the conflict is due to political positioning. In the same line, Minister Dietrich said yesterday that trade unionists «are affecting Aerolíneas and clearly many of them have a role in the political life of Argentina, many of them have declared themselves totally opposed to doing well to President Mauricio Macri».

Aerolíneas Argentinas reported that it will reduce to less than US$ 90 million the amount of subsidies that will be required from the central administration for its operation in 2018. «In 2016 we received US$ 340 million, a figure that was reduced to US$ 170 million in 2017 and will fall to less than US$ 90 million in 2018», said the CEO. According to the executive, this was possible because it went from 72% of average occupancy to 86% today, with a 28% increase in the sale of tickets in 2017, in relation to 2016. A \ W

Incremento HUB-Córdoba de Aerolíneas

AW-70089771

AW | 2017 11 08 11:05 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Increase HUB-Córdoba Airlines

AA-AU Isologotype.pngThe HUB-Córdoba Center distributes half of the tickets on routes of the Argentine airline that do not pass through Buenos Aires

The distribution center for flights that Aerolíneas Argentinas launched in Córdoba called «Norcorsur» just over six months ago has become a key element in the company’s growth and competition strategy.

Almost 85% occupancy of the seats between April-October 2017, the hub is equivalent to 50% of the routes that operates Aerolíneas Argentinas-Austral traffic in the interior without passing through Buenos Aires.

The Aerolíneas Group reported between April-September 2017, an increase of 55% year-on-year the number of passengers passing through Córdoba. Aerolíneas Argentinas is more concentrated inside borders. «Our vigilance is the cabotage», remarked the president of Aerolineas Argentinas, Mario Dell’Acqua. It is logical to suppose, because it does not want to lose local market in front of the opening of the competition. Flybondi will soon begin its operations in Córdoba, and it is a very strong square in the interior of Argentina. Other airlines will compete on many routes without passing through Aeroparque.

The development of the network is one of the strategies of the firm, especially in the face of the competition that the new airlines that intend to operate with the promise of having lower fares will raise. «The Córdoba hub makes us have a competitive advantage over other players,» said Dell’Acqua, for whom the low cost concept in the market is «marketer». It occurs within the framework of cheaper rates. In fact, in the domestic market the prices of the tickets sold by Aerolíneas decreased, on average, 21%.

The connections from Córdoba, Aerolíneas reached this year an increase of 16% in the number of cabotage passengers (around 9.5 million passengers transported). The estimates will close 2017 with 13.3 million passengers, which represents a year-on-year increase of 14.7%. This has been the result of increasing the offer of seats by 8.2%, to reach 16.4 million pax annually.

Plans for 2018
The objective is to increase the offer to 13.2 million seats in cabotage. Aerolíneas / Austral will develop new connections from the interior of the country. The Hub-Córdoba will initiate new routes to Posadas (Misiones), which begin in December 2017. The Jujuy-Córdoba-Tierra del Fuego cross-country route is in the airline’s plans. The start of the holiday season will demand seven weekly frequencies for the Córdoba-Mar del Plata route, five to Córdoba-Bariloche, two to Córdoba-Punta del Este (Uruguay) -Iguazú, and three Córdoba-Florianópolis (Brazil).
