Delta prepara orden 100 737 MAX

Boeing y Delta anunciarían mega-orden del MAX
Delta Air Lines ordenaría cien Boeing 737-10 MAX

Boeing 737 MAX_Isologotype

Delta_Isoglotype_Intersected

Boeing_Isologotype

Delta_Isoglotype_Intersected

Delta Air Lines is studying a mega-order with the American manufacturer The Boeing Company for one hundred Boeing 737-10 MAX (100). The MAX 10 is the highest performance model that is currently close to the date of operational certification. Talks between Delta and Boeing about the 737 MAX began in November 2020, when CEO Ed Bastian of the Atlanta-based airline commented on interest in the modern, fourth-generation 737 aircraft. He said that if there is an opportunity where his airline feels comfortable taking on the aircraft type, Delta would be buying the product.

Delta Air Lines was a historical customer of the McDonnell Douglas MD80/MD-90 line, which after the merger with Boeing, the company opted for the Boeing 737 Next Generation and Airbus A320NEO products. Currently, Delta Airlines is the only major airline in the United States that does not operate the Boeing 737 MAX line in its fleet. There have been rumors for a couple of years that Delta has placed an order for a Boeing 737 MAX, though so far nothing has materialized. Following the 737 MAX crisis and the pandemic-impacted travel crisis, Delta and Boeing are in advanced talks on a large Boeing 737 MAX order.

The signing of the agreement could arrive around the month of April 2022, reaching a mega-order in the 737-10 MAX model, the aircraft with the highest performance and capabilities of the fourth generation of the 737 MAX line. Closing the deal would deliver Delta Air Lines’ first Boeing 737 MAX order, as well as the Atlanta (GA)-based airline’s first new order for Boeing aircraft in nearly a decade.

Delta & Strategies

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian has been hinting at the possibility of a deal with Boeing for many months, stating that «there is certainly a place for the MAX if we can figure out how to bring them in». When Delta buys new planes, it’s usually looking for a great deal. Delta has long been an opportunistic buyer of commercial aircraft and has adopted a different strategy than other major airlines in the United States. Delta is happy to buy used planes, they can often be bought for a fraction of the much lower costs of new planes, while keeping the interiors nice so customers don’t feel like they’re flying an older plane.

Delta recently picked up some used Airbus A350s. We could imagine that for a long time Delta did not buy the 737 MAX it was a great competitive advantage. When the plane was grounded due to two fatal accidents, it presented a great challenge for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, as they had to significantly reduce their capacities and increase operating costs. With the 737 MAX flying once more, the scenario of insecurity continues to be left behind, a clearing that allows Delta Air Lines to establish an advantageous negotiation. The forthcoming agreement would mark a change of direction expected by The Boeng Company, since Delta airlines was one of the last American mega-carriers where there could be the possibility of conquering a large part of the order market in its own territory.

Delta & fleet update

The airline Delta Air Lines continues to be a mega-carrier with a global reach, where the aeronautical industries place special emphasis on the evolution of the fleets and updates, since they mark the direction of global demand.

Many larger airlines tend to have a block of mixed fleets and with antiques that are around twenty years old. In the case of Delta Air Lines, it was characterized by continuing to fly a considerable number of McDonnell Douglas DC-9/MD-80/MD-90, while at the same time updating the fleet with A320/A321, breaking the US monopoly.

Delta currently has Airbus A220s (95) on order, which will replace the Boeing 717s (53). Furthermore, Delta retired all of its MD-80s, leading to a significant reduction in its operational capabilities.

It has Airbus A321s (127) in its fleet, which are on average around three years old, and the airline also has Airbus A321NEO/XLRs (155) on order; these will replace the 127 Boeing 757s. Delta has a total of one hundred and fourteen A319-100CEOs and A320-200CEOs (114), which have an average of more than twenty years of service, so they will need to be replaced at some point. Delta has Boeing 737-800 (77) in its fleet, in addition to Boeing 737-900ER (159), which are on average more than ten years old.

Major narrowbodies line challenge

Delta Air Lines will surprise the world with the addition of the Boeing 737-10 MAX, instead of smaller variants. That is why it puts the competitiveness of the manufacturers Boeing and Airbus at the top for the struggle for dominance in the most developed and competitive aviation sector, the high-density mid-range. This is where the Boeing 737-10 MAX and the Airbus A321NEO/XLR compete. Delta wants most of its narrow-body fleet to be with aircraft of about 200 seats to meet an upcoming strong demand in the post-pandemic region.

The alleged delay in placing orders on an aircraft known to Delta Air Lines could be due to the price offered by the manufacturer. Now that the market situation has changed for The Boeing Company, it feels the need to recover lost market with the 737 MAX against its competitor that continues to dominate with the best-seller A321NEO and its next version A321XLR.

It is known for the position of Delta Air Lines and Ireland’s Ryanair who always look for favorable deals when it comes to buying aircraft. Negotiations usually take time to materialize. In the fall of 2021 it was announced that negotiations between the two companies had been called off, as they were unable to reach an agreement. As Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary described it: «We are disappointed that we were unable to reach an agreement with Boeing on a MAX 10 order. However, Boeing has a more optimistic outlook on aircraft prices than we do, and we have a disciplined history of not paying high prices for aircraft». Delta Air Lines has not benefited from a lack of agreement that has caused the delay with the order, but the problems arising from the 737 MAX line have bought time to restructure the airline’s fleet. Boeing’s position in the face of a real need for new agreements, bearing in mind the great crisis of the 787, 737 MAX lines, that does not seem to be the compelling case for seeking new customers. It serves as a sample button the case of Ryanair which has not yet reached a formal agreement, when then one might wonder why Delta Air Lines could develop a successful purchase agreement, although we could discount that the Atlanta-based airline could have an advantage significant in the Ryanair deal: Boeing knows that Delta would gladly order an Airbus order, and for that matter the airline has ordered a large number of A321NEOs. Ryanair exclusively operates the Boeing 737 line, and it’s about fleet similarity that Boeing probably thinks Ryanair wouldn’t even consider buying Airbus planes, even though CEO Michael O’Leary has repeatedly «threatened» to change the philosophy of its fleet, but this would entail higher costs for the leading budget airline in Europe, a point that the low cost is not willing to give up market sacrificing operating costs. Although Ryanair recently called off discussions to buy the 737 MAX, it may look for an opportunity later to resume negotiations with the American builder.

Delta perspectives

Delta Air Lines and The Boeing Company are close to a formal agreement for a 737 MAX mega-order, where they are typically advertised at the world’s largest air shows. Farnborough 2022 could be selected for the big announcement to introduce MAX to one of the world’s largest airlines.

Flybondi inaugura Comodoro Rivadavia

AW | 2022 03 17 07:07 | AIRLINES ROUTES / GOVERNMENT

Comodoro Rivadavia firmó convenio con Flybondi

AW-Flybondi_B-Isologotype

Flybondi inaugurates Comodoro Rivadavia

Comodoro Rivadavia signed an agreement with Flybondi

This Wednesday 03/16, Flybondi Líneas Aéreas has announced an agreement with the Municipality of Comodoro Rivadavia to incorporate a new destination in the Patagonia Region. Mayor Juan Pablo Luque signed an agreement with the low cost airline, by which it will begin operations by August 2022, linking Buenos Aires/AEP—Comodoro Rivadavia/CRD with three weekly flights (3Frq/S).

The meeting took place at the Casa de Comodoro Rivadavia in Buenos Aires, where the Communal Chief, accompanied by the National Senator Carlos Linares, received the CEO of Flybondi, Mauricio Sana; the Director of Corporate Affairs, Esteban Tossutti; and the Corporate Communications Manager, Lucía Ginzo. In this context, it was reported that the low cost airline will operate in Comodoro Rivadavia from August with three weekly round trip flights to the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, adding more alternatives to the existing offer.

This adds to the recent news about the incorporation of two new frequencies by JetSmart Airlines Argentina as of May 2022 with five weekly flights to the Federal Capital. The mayor stated that “for a long time we have been taking steps to increase the number of flights to and from our city, seeking to expand the offer with more accessible rates for Comodorenses and for all those who want to visit us. These are the actions that underpin our project to consolidate Comodoro as one of the most important cities in the country. It is important that the company is investing to add Comodoro to its air routes. Flybondi works with cheap flights, whose tickets will cost the same or less than traveling by land transport, so we are looking forward to the imminent start of its operations in our city, which will be in August 2022. The demand for tickets has always been very strong and it was extremely necessary to continue adding frequencies, that is why our management is permanent in that sense. We want to work with Flybondi as we are currently doing with JetSmart, which will add more flights in the coming months, and with Aerolineas, which is permanent”.

Finally, Juan Pablo Luque stressed that “these are the actions that underpin our project to transform Comodoro Rivadavia as a tourist destination, beyond being a city of work that contributes day by day to our country. We bet on productive diversification and news of this nature is very positive”.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Flybondi, Mauricio Sana, stated that “we are very happy to launch our route to Comodoro Rivadavia. Adding destinations is always great news for everyone, in this case for Comodorenses, who from now on will have more connectivity options and the best rates, with a safe and quality service. Implementing new flights always generates a positive impact between the points it unites, giving the city and the area a boost for the development of regional economies, tourism and all associated activities such as transportation, gastronomy and hotels, among others. We celebrate the joint work carried out with Mayor Luque to achieve this achievement that will benefit all parties. We are going to face this new challenge with the same commitment that we do in each of the provinces to which we fly”.
