Gobierno asegura cierre Viva Air

Government ensures closure Viva Air

Ministry Transport low thumb to Viva Air

The Colombian government denounced days ago before the Prosecutor’s Office to the Viva Air airline for alleged scam to users. The situation that was triggered after this announced by Viva Air of the suspension of its services, significantly affected several people, on the one hand the users who had scheduled tickets, in some cases being detained in airports away from their homes and on the other , workers who did not receive a notice before the last decision. Given this situation, the government has had to intervene, to help harmed people; and also to display an investigation against the company for alleged scam.

Due to the previous situation and that its course must continue, the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, has reported that since its portfolio the decision has been made to proceed legally according to the fact that the airline has violated the rights of consumers And it is possible to demonstrate that although he was aware that his financial statements showed that they could not continue until the last minutes continued offering flights and selling tickets.

“We were able to establish that a criminal action is incurred for the behaviors of what would be an aggravated scam by the economic modality, because those who did it, knew what was going to happen. Because there were more than 475,000 citizens with about 725,000 operations, that is, with many cases of purchase of first leg and return. That makes them two operations […] ANATO has said that it exceeds 30,000 million pesos for travel agencies, and in what we have of those 750,000 journeys, that would give us about 242,000 million and other transactions, which could reach 272,000 million for now, ”said the head of the transport portfolio.

Viva Air will not work again because, as they said they do not have the media or ways to reactivate operations and even some airlines such as Avianca and LATAM Airlines are helping with the crisis, hiring the employees of the low airline cost and assuming some flight or giving options to passengers affected by the event. “Viva will not operate again, it has no planes, it has no employees and has no resources, no more debts. How could it operate? Who will give you airplanes to do the operation? However, everything is seen in the Lord’s vineyard”, said Guillermo Reyes.

Instability market
From the Ministry of Transportation of Colombia they have been monitoring the situation of the country’s airlines and has asked the regulatory entities to follow up on the financial statements to control possible future crises. “This situation of Viva and other ads that I received that there were other low cost airlines such as Ultra, which are in a delicate economic situation, took me under my competences, to ask the director of the aeronautics and the superintendence of transport that He would officiate all the airlines so that, to date, we will give us the active, liabilities and what was their situation. We are interested in the air operation being safe, being reliable and that whoever sells or submits to the air transport contract complies with the Colombian aeronautical regulations and guarantees the passenger, the user, the rights, and ours is to act and protect”.

Viva Air workers
The Ministry of Transportation said that most likely the low cost airline does not operate as a result of its financial crisis. The crisis caused by the cease of operations of Viva Air on February 27, 2023 seems not to end. In addition to the passengers who have been affected, there are hundreds of Low-cost workers who were also dismissed. The Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, recently announced that, for now, LATAM Airlines Colombia is the only company that is hiring the former employees of the low-cost airline.

The head of the transport portfolio expressed about the future of the Colombian airline delivering a discouraging panorama, could definitely leave the air market. The future of low cost extrabajadores are looking for work in LATAM Airlines Colombia. “Regarding what is said about the hiring of Viva Air personnel by airlines. I allow myself to clarify that the company that is doing it is Aerovías de Integración Regional S.A. better known as LATAM Airlines Colombia and No Avianca”, said the head of the Guillermo Reyes transport portfolio.

The Ministry of Labor is investigating whether or not Viva Air has the resources to be able to liquidate all its employees. “We already had a guaranteed economic issue. I am not sure if that happened. However, the Ministry of Labor is advancing all inquiries about whether this has happened”. It is worth mentioning that the statements of the Minister of Transportation are given only hours that a formal criminal complaint against Viva Air was filed before the Attorney General’s Office for the alleged commission of the aggravated scam crimes in mass modality, deceptive offer of products and services and others. The cease of low-cost operations not only caused traumas and damages to its passengers, but also an obvious paralysis in Colombian air transport.

Among the main points for which the Ministry of Transport was the complaint are that “the airline raised before the cessation of the operations that occurred on February 27, 2023, a sum that ascends, in a preliminary way, to the COL$ 272 thousand Millions of pesos, for the sale of air tickets, tickets and the reception of payments from various travel agencies”. To the above, it is added that, although the airline knew that it would end its operations, it kept its commercial channels open until a few hours before it announced the decision that affected hundreds of passengers. The above, according to the transport portfolio, evidenced intent by the company. «The airline knowing that he could not comply with his users kept them in error, generating expectations regarding their flights that could not materialize”, said the portfolio in the complaint filed. The Ministry of Transportation concluded by ensuring that, to date, «the airline has not made any refund to the thousands of affected, thereby violated the economic heritage of Colombians who acquired their services».

Given the bomber by Viva Air in terms of transport, the unhappy consequence of having failed the attempted fusion with Avianca Airlines is added, where this airline was totally exposed to the desprolijidades to request a synergy agreement floating in the middle of actions little reliable. .

Boeing niega más pagos

Abogados alegan cumplimiento con familiares accidentes

Boeing_Isologo.svg

Boeing denies more payments

Lawyers allege compliance with family accidents

The Boeing Company has expressed the refusal to pay more money to the families of 157 victims of the air accident of the Etiophian Airlines flight that involved a Boeing 737 MAX after insisting that the fall of six minutes to the ground they suffered does not constitute pain and suffering. The argument was transmitted by the manufacturer’s lawyers in the Federal Court of Chicago on February 27, 2023, days before the fourth anniversary of the accident in Ethiopia. The presentation serves as the last development in a legal saga of years that involves the plane and That 2019 accident, as well as an earlier in Indonesia in 2018. The two accidents killed a total of 346 people and left all MAX aircraft on land for two years, since Boeing faced federal investigations and civil claims of families. The Boeing aircraft manufacturer has argued that it should not have to pay more money to the families of the people who died in a 2019 accident that involved its 737 MAX plane, after insisting that the victims died instantly and, therefore, therefore They did not suffer before perishing.

Boeing has resolved about three quarters of these claims, but faces a new reading of federal positions, after prosecutors rejected an agreement that granted him legal immunity when the manufacturer admitted having cheated the federals about the safety of the safety of the aircraft after accidents.

Now, the company says that it should not have to distribute more funds for claims related to the second accident, pointing out the state laws that prevent families from presenting claims related to pain and loss, not with the suffering of the victims. Previously based in Virginia, where such claims are possible, Boeing moved its headquarters to Chicago in May 2022. «Boeing recognizes the tremendous tragedy suffered by families», the company’s lawyers wrote in the presentation of February 27, 2023. But, lawyers wrote, state laws «establish that evidence of pain and suffering prior to the impact of passengers cannot be admitted to support compensation for damage in this case».

Previously based in Virginia, where such claims are possible, Boeing moved its headquarters to Chicago in May 2022. It occurs shortly after Boeing’s lawyers insisted on a recent judicial presentation that the victims of 737 MAX died without pain, citing To an expert who said that the plane crashed into the ground so fast that his brains did not have time to process any pain. The presentation of February 2023 now insists that any pain and suffering that felt before the impact is not legally relevant to calculate the damage, after families said that they should be compensated by terror that their loved ones felt The terrifying six minute fall. Therefore, they argue that the company must be considered responsible for the proposed payments, even if Illinois’s law (IL) indicates otherwise. The basis of families’ statements is that the terror that their loved ones felt when they fell to the ground constitutes suffering. As mentioned by Boeing’s lawyers in the February 2023 presentation, Illinois’s law only allows damage related to the pain and loss of the plaintiffs.

In a statement on Wednesday 03/15, Boeing said he deeply regretted those who lost relatives in accidents, saying that he would compensate for the remaining relatives. The company has expressed that it hopes to resolve the remaining cases. «We have recognized the terrible impact of these tragic accidents and we have committed ourselves in advance to completely and just compensate all the families that suffered a loss», said a representative of the aerospace company.

Not including unleashed agreements delivered to the families of the victims, disasters have cost Boeing more than US$ 20 billion, not to mention a twenty month grounding for the best selling plane. By relocating in May 2022, the company has tried to overcome the consequences of the two accidents, with the inconsistencies of unfair death that now serve as its last obstacle. Such disputes about damage and the final moments of the deceased are unusual, said legal experts, in states such as Illinois, where there are laws that only allow damage distributed by the pain and the loss of a plaintiff, and not by suffering. Pointing out the lack of sufficient evidence that the victims experienced pain and suffering among their injuries and deaths, Boeing’s lawyers say the company should not be responsible for those proposed payments.

That battle on whether the aircraft manufacturer should have to pay for the suffering of the victims occurs more than two years after Boeing admitted the responsibility of the second accident as part of an agreement to obtain legal immunity from the federal government. The company, at that time, admitted to the Judge of the Northern District of Texas Reed O’Connor that the company had conspired to defraud the United States when it lied about the safety characteristics of airplanes in audiences and documents after accidents, which, which They left all 737 MAX airplanes on land worldwide for almost two years.

The agreement saw the lawyers of the plaintiffs agree to eliminate the possible punitive damage of the table in the demands, of which there were approximately eighty. Punitive damage refer to the amounts of money that the defendants must pay as part of their punishment. Under the controversial agreement, the Department of Justice (DOJ) agreed not to process the company for conspiracy to disappoint the government, effectively granting him legal immunity. However, the victims’ families quickly spoke against the decision, demanding justice for the victims. Both Boeing and the Department of Justice opposed the reopening of the agreement.

AW-Boeing 737 MAX_png (15)

In a judicial presentation in November 2022, the Department of Justice said that the agreement was not opposed and properly processing Boeing, but said that undoing the agreement «would impose serious difficulties to the parties and the many victims who have received compensation».

As the violent reaction of families persisted, the Department of Justice announced in January 2023 that it would eliminate the 2021 agreement, which saw the company pay US$ 2.5 billion to the Department of Justice as part of an agreement, and move on With the reading of manufacturer’s charges. At that time, Boeing Security Director Mike Delaney declared himself innocent on behalf of the aircraft manufacturer. During the reading of charges, the relatives of the dead criticized the company, saying that «he committed the deadliest corporate crime in the history of the United States».

The airplanes, however, were authorized to fly again in 2021, after Boeing reviewed an automated flight control system that was erroneously activated in both accidents, after promising to investigate the safety problems of the plane. The officials, however, would only choose to leave the 737 MAX on the ground after a second accident, this time in Ethiopia, only five months later.

After an investigation in 2020, Boeing attributed both accidents to a failure in the air control system of the aircraft, which caused the plane to rotate sharply while it was in the air. 737 MAX airplanes were authorized once again to fly in November 2021, after two years of being on land, and Boeing at that time described the planes as insurance for passengers.

Boeing had previously agreed to a fine of US$ 200 million from the Bag and Securities Commission (SEC) to resolve the charges that negligently violated the anti-fraud provisions of the United States Securities Law.

The agency argued that only one month after the first accident, the company selectively highlighted certain facts, which implies that the pilot’s error and poor maintenance of the aircraft was what led to accidents, instead of a technical problem. That statement did not reveal that the company knew a key flight management system, the system of increased maneuver features (MCAS) raised security problems and was never redesigned, the SEC. Then, after the second accident, the agency said, said the agency , Boeing and the CEO Dennis Muilenburg assured the public that there was no surprise or gap in the federal certification of 737 MAX despite being aware of the opposite information. «In times of crisis and tragedy, it is especially important that public companies and Executives provide complete, fair and truthful disseminations to markets. The Boeing Company and his former CEO, Dennis Muilenburg, failed in this most basic obligation. They cheated investors by providing guarantees on the security of 737 MAX, despite knowing serious security concerns», said the president of the SEC, Gary Gensler, in a press release.

The SEC said that both Boeing and Dennis Muilenburg agreed to pay the fines, did not admit or denied the agency’s findings. Boeing said that the agreement completely resolves the research of the SEC and is part of the «broader effort of the company to responsible for responsible legal issues related to the 737 MAX accidents in a way that serves the best interests of our Shareholders, employees and other stakeholders. We will never forget the losses on flight 610 of Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines flight 302, and we have made broad and deep changes in our entire company in response to those accidents», said a spokesman for the company.

Meanwhile, relatives in the remaining civil demands have recruited their own expert witnesses to help in their case and address questions about the final moments of their relative. One of those experts, the Aerospace physiologist Troy Faaborg, wrote in a judicial presentation that the victims most likely experienced problems such as panic, nausea and vomiting, heart problems during the six minutes of fall, giving credit to the argument of their relatives. Vickie Norton, a pilot from a commercial airline hired as a witness by the plaintiffs, also wrote: «It did not spend much time before the progressive loss of control and the final fall to the ground would not only have been distressing but also caused terror for all the passengers on board».

Boeing, meanwhile, has recruited his own experts to fight these evaluations, qualifying them as speculative while arguing that the damage is not available for «fear and terror prior to the impact».. The result of the disputes could see millions more paid to each individual plaintiff. The procedures continue behind closed doors in Chicago.

Aerocivil definirá fusión Avianca-Viva Air Colombia

VIVAAIR_Isologoty`pe

Aerocivil define future Viva Air

Aerocivil will define Avianca-Viva Air Colombia fusion

AW-Ministerio Transporte Colombia

The Ministry of Transportation of Colombia, this Thursday 03/16 will be known the final decision of the Aerocivil about the integration request made by the AviancaViva Air Colombia airlines since last year 2022. The Civil Aeronautical Agency of Colombia will publish its decision about the integration between Viva Air Colombia and Avianca Airlines, according to statements that the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, gave this morning during a press conference. The decision will be made on Thursday 03/16 in the afternoon in the middle of the deep crisis wrapped in the Colombian low cost airline, which has been a pioneer of low cost airlines in Colombia.

The turbulence of the budget airline is of important magnitudes not being defined the future of the airline, even if the integration with Avianca is approved, the main competitor in the Colombian air market.

On Wednesday 15/03, the Ministry of Transportation criminally denounced managers of the low cost airline for alleged aggravated scam, a crime that would have committed through the sale of air tickets at a time when the operation was about to be suspended. The suspension of operations has affected more than 460,000 travelers, according to calculations of the Superintendence of Transportation, which last week underwent control to Viva Air, a measure that seeks to stop, in the most immediate way possible, the effects on users.

Until before the cessation of operations, Viva had a presence on some 34 national routes, in addition to 11 international and in 2022 has transported 6.6 million passengers, according to Aerocivil figures. So an eventual output of this airline could bring harsh consequences for the market.

In Viva Air’s vision, the only way to evade the worst possible result of the crisis he is going through is to achieve synergy with Avianca.

The problem is that several experts have considered that the union would be a problem for users because, in a nutshell, it would cement a dominant position in a market in which there are not so many players of this caliber. Civil Aeronautics certainly said the same when it resolved at the beginning of November last year the application for integration by denying it, arguing, among other things, competition problems. Data collected by Aerocivil in November 2022 indicate that Viva and Avianca participate in 59 national routes, which mobilize 93.7% of the country’s domestic traffic with 29 routes that are duplicate. If integration is approved, the economic group would have 100% of the participation in 16 national routes.

Shortly after its first determination, the Aerocivil said that there was an irregularity in the process and that the whole process should start again from scratch. The final decision on this key issue has returned to submit the Union of both airlines to the Aeronautical Agency; Although many determine that Viva Air’s situation has been pushed to press Aerocivil to approve the Avianca-Viva Air union.

The Ministry of Transportation of Colombia estimates that by March 2023 it is expected that around 826,000 by air will be transported, but will influence the decision reached by the Aerocivil on Thursday 03/16.

Transportation preocupación seguridad

AW | 2023 03 16 15:44 | GOVERNMENT / AVIATION SAFETY / AVIATION ORGANISMS

US Transportation safety

It is concerned with nearby airline calls

The Secretary of Department of Transportation (DOT) of the United States, Pete Buttigieg spoke at a security summit convened by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), after a handful of close profile calls referring to air safety. The announcement of Wednesday 03/15 He has had a fatal accident for almost a decade.

Pete Buttigieg spoke at a security summit convened by Billy Nolen, the interim chief of the Federal Aviation Administration, after a handful of high profile close calls, including an incident in Austin, Texas in February 2023, where a cargo plane De FedEx was 100 feet to land at the top of a Southwest Airlines flight that took off from the same track. «While the data is still clear that aviation remains an exceptionally safe way to travel, we do not give anything for granted and we are particularly concerned because we have seen an increase in serious nearby calls», said Pete Buttigieg. The summit is intended to summon several pieces of the aviation industry, including airlines, airports and associated unions, together with security regulators, to try to identify and address any possible red flag that may be hiding in the data that each airline You must inform.

Jennifer Homendy, president of the National Board of Transportation Security (NTSB), which is investigating all recent quasi accidents, said that each one is complicated by the lack of voice recordings in the cabin. In general, these devices record in a two hour loop. «The six of this year have one thing in common: the voice recorders of the cabin were overwritten», said Jennifer Homandy. He also noted that his agency has recommended since 2018 that the airplanes are equipped with a Cabin Voice Recorder (CVR) capable of storing at least 25 hours of audio, a standard that, he said, European regulators have been in force for more than more than one year.

Jennifer Homendy said the Austin incident and a second Burbank incident, California, were especially alarming cases of airplanes that approached dangerously. In Burbank, where an Airlines table flight was forced to turn a Skyest flight when it took off, the two planes approached 300 feet on each other. «We have seen too often the federal government and the industry act after an incident, after lives are lost, once they become headlines. All our mission in the NTSB is to prevent that next accident», Jennifer Homendy said.

After the round table, Jennifer Homendy told journalists that it is frustrated because FAA has not implemented a series of recommendations that its agency has had open, in some cases for years, even when it summons a security summit to find answers about what That is wrong with the aviation system. «Basically, we have given them the road map on how to improve security. The recommendations not implemented are the most frustrating for us», said Jennifer Homendy. That includes the open recommendation on cabin voice recorders (CVR).

In response, FAA observed that airlines are free to update their cabin voice recorders if they wish, and that FAA is working on a rule to demand it. The FAA also said that the NTSB has described the FAA’s responses as «acceptable open response» about the handful of security recommendations that Jennifer Homandy appointed on Wednesday 03/15.

A review of the Federal Aviation Administration data shows that the first two months of 2023 showed an increase in collisions close to commercial airplanes throughout the country. During January and February, commercial airplanes experienced calls close to a rate higher than the previous five years combined. Jennifer Homendy said the NTSB is investigating six close calls on tracks from all over the country since the beginning of the year. In addition, the NTSB is investigating two landings in the opposite direction last year and two severe turbulence incidents separated the same day in Hawaii last December, an incident in which 36 people were injured and another in which a flight was at 800 feet of hitting the Pacific Ocean shortly after takeoff.

While all those incidents remain under investigation of the NTSB, Jennifer Homendy said that high rotation in the aviation industry from the pandemic, an increasingly congested airspace and the lack of adoption of seven recommendations of the NTSB related to the airport tracks are factors that contribute to the worrying pattern of nearby collisions that contributed to the need for the summit of Wednesday 15/03. «Today is not an academic exercise. We have to take these six almost accidents and treat them as if they had happened and that is why we are here today», Billy Nolen.

Flair Airlines demanda a Airborne

AW | 2023 03 16 15:20 | AIRLINES / AVIATION / GOVERNMENT

Demanda por incautación de cuatro aeronaves

Flair_Airlines_Isologotype_New_Logo_2019

Flair Airlines demands Airborne

Demand for seizure of four aircraft

Flair Airlines organized a press conference on Wednesday 15/03 in which CEO Stephen Jones spoke on the theme of the four Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that had been recently seized. He affirmed that the planes were seized as a result of the collusion between a rival airline and a landlord of US coverage funds.

On March 11, 2023, four Airlines Flair Airplanes were seized because the airline had a few days late in a payment to the landowner Airborne Capital. According to Stephen Jones, the measure took Flair completely by surprise, although the airline was delayed in making a payment of US$ 1 million. In yesterday’s call, Stephen Jones highlighted the resumption of normal operations with spare aircraft.

The Low Cost Canadian airline does not know the action of the Lessor company: «Speaking with the other lessors, they have never seen it in these circumstances either. Of course, if someone arrives 90 days late and there have been repeated denials in the requests for payment, it is fine, but we were constantly communicating with Airborne. This, from our perspective, came out of nowhere».

Judicial action
Flair Airlines has sued the lessor for US$ 50 million. The airline alleges that there was a breach of contract and that there was fraudulent misrepresentation. The lawsuit was filed in Ontario, Canada, before the Superior Court and includes other companies in addition to the lessor.

According to Airborne, Flair was up to five months late in lease payments. But the lawsuit filed by Flair states that the situation was managed in a malicious way and there was no warning of the seizure. «The landlords sent agents to seize the aircraft in the middle of the night while the passengers boarded airplanes for spring holiday For its scheduled flight plans», says the airline.

Flair also states that the lessor was conspired with other airlines and found better lease agreements with airlines in other places. On Wednesday 03/15, Stephen Jones said that a landlord of American coverage funds and one of the two main airlines in Canada worked together to seize the aircraft and undermine the airline. Although the airline has not provided evidence to support its claims, he said that things would become evident in the next few days. In fact, none of the parties has provided evidence to support its statements, which shows two contradictory versions.

Flair Airlines has remained positive on social networks, ensuring its passengers that operations have returned to normal and will remain like this. On Monday 03/13, the airline shared that it did not anticipate more interruptions in its route network, and a team had spent two days restoring reserves to the victims affected last weekend.

Gobierno vende Air Botswana

AW | 2023 03 14 14:57 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Gobierno presupuesta para venta de Air Botswana

AW-Air Botswana__Isologotype

Government sells Air Botswana

Government budget for sale of Air Botswana

The Botswana Government is budgeting the sale of the National Air Botswana airline, as announced by the country’s parliament by the Ministry of Transportation by Eric Molale. Through the National Transition Development Plan (TNDP) for financial years 2023/24 and 2024/25, it is budgeting, which will finally result in the sale of the airline in trouble.

The Government had ordered that a strategic partner for Air Botswana be sought, while seeking the provaive of the Botsuaese airline. The plan contemplates the restructuring to the operating excellence, recovery, growth and financial sustainability. «While the immediate plan is that the airline obtains a strategic partner, these strategic objectives are still aligned with their privatization agenda», said Eric Molale.

The airline is technically insolvent and the government has been studying measures to be more efficient and competitive, including the introduction of new regional routes, the maintenance of international security standards and the improvement of its punctuality (OTP). He has been looking to diversify his income through a strategic approach to increasing his load income, increasing his network of national routes and operating more charter flights. «In the medium and long term, the airline is working on the restructuring of its operations to market other divisions and, when possible, turn them into subsidiaries or autonomous entities», said Eric Molale.

The Evaluation and Privatization Agency of Public Companies (PEEPA) of Botswana, a statutory body responsible for selling state owned companies, has been dedicated to the search for possible buyers/partners. He presented recommendations on the review of the Air Botswana operating model for consideration by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in August 2020. In May 2022, the president of Botsuana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, again confirmed the government’s plans to enter a Strategic association with the private sector to revitalize Air Botswana. The Government previously promised that a legal framework for privatization would have been in force for April 2022. The previous attempts of Comair (South Africa), Airlink (South Africa) and Air Mauritius, provisionally liquidated to buy a participation in Air Botswana did not give results.

México contra aéreas extranjeras

AW | 2023 03 14 10:30 | AIRLINES MARKET / GOVERNMENT

Mexico against foreign airlines

Mexican airlines close rows against foreigners’

Aeromexico, Volaris Airlines and the National Airborne Chamber (CANAERO) of Mexico issued different positions on the changes to the law that would allow foreign airlines to operate national routes. The national air sector closed ranks on Monday 03/13 to pronounce against the changes to the Civil Aviation Law that would allow air cabotage in the country, with which foreign companies could operate national flights, something that they can only do only Mexican airlines.

One of the arguments of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to boost his initiative sent in December 2022, where the regulations establish that an airport operator can have its own cabotage airline, as well as any airline from another country could disembark in Mexico and operate domestic routes; However, the industry warns that the initiative could be counterproductive in terms of consumer costs.

“If foreign companies are allowed to operate domestic flights, they would need to attend the most profitable routes, perhaps lowering their prices and then, once the national airlines once pretended, they would have control of the routes and set high prices to recover the losses they He has generated his income”, said the National Airborne Chamber in a statement. Even the union agency assured that the proposal implies a risk of financial weakening that could lead to bankruptcy to national airlines.

Aeromexico issued a statement where it fully coincides with what is expressed by the CANAERO, which has also asked to put the eye on the Airport Use Rates (TUA), which «are still increasing with the authorization of the Government». According to industry experts, the airport use rate represents between 39% and up to 65% of the total cost of the plane ticket on a domestic flight, depending on the route. «The law initiative that is analyzed in the Chamber of Deputies must exclude the cabotage term, and would have to focus on the necessary changes so that the Mexican aeronautical authority recovers the category 1 of aviation security», said Aeromexico in a statement referring to the degradation of Mexican air authorities to category 2, which prevents them from opening new routes and increasing capacities to the United States, after almost two years of not achieving the objectives.

Volaris Airlines demanded equal opportunities in order to be able to carry out a cabotage in the countries of origin of the airlines that want to operate in Mexico with this model. “Volaris reiterates its refusal to unilaterally assigned participation in the Mexican market to foreign airlines. Today the Mexican air market has a wide and sufficient offer, flights at competitive and accessible prices, so there is no need to open Mexican skies to foreign operators”, he said in his statement.

The changes to the Civil Aviation and Airports Law will be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies during the following weeks. Legislators of the Infrastructure Commission have referred that the opinion would be postponed to have a more punctual understanding of the consequences of the changes to be made, so it would seek to issue an opinion at the latest for April 30, 2023.

Japón elimina obligatoriedad máscaras

AW | 2023 03 13 09:47 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

No estamos obligando a nadie a usarlo o quitárselo.

Japan eliminated on Monday 03/13 its mandatory mask measure after three years of coronavirus pandemic, but almost nothing changed in a country whose population has greatly respected the norm for its effectiveness in antivirus protection.

Most air travelers continue to use oral protection masks in air terminals such as flights operated in Japan. Other transports such as trains have seen the use of the masks at the Main Station of Tokyo trains in the morning carrying surgical masks when they were going to work.

The withdrawal of the mandatory use of masks is one of the last steps that the government of Japan takes to make the rules per coronavirus more flexible in public places when it tries to expand businesses and other activities. “As of today, the use of masks is left to individual judgment. We are not forcing anyone to use or take it off. I think there will be more chances that I will remove the mask”, explained Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to journalists upon reaching his office. However, Fumio Kishida asked the population to use sanitary masks when they are close to vulnerable people in order to protect them from the risks of infection.

In a country where conformity pressure is extremely strong, many people are expected to continue using them for now. The mandatory use of outdoor masks was eliminated last summer, but many have continued to use them. Restaurants, stores and airlines removed the signs that asked customers to wear masks. But many of their employees continue to carry them in consideration by customers and other people who need protection.

New Riyadh Air airline

Saudi Arabia presents a new airline to compete in Gulf

Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday 12/03 the creation of a new national airline called Riyadh Air, part of a plan to turn Riyadh into a global aviation center that rival regional leaders such as Dubai and Doha. Riyadh Air «aims to launch flights to more than one hundred destinations worldwide by 2030», said the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is chasing ambitious aviation objectives as part of the broad reform agenda «Vision 2030» of the heir prince Mohammed Bin Salman, which includes more than tripling the annual traffic to 330 million passengers for the purposes of the decade.

In November 2022, the officials announced plans for a new airport in the capital, Riyad Airport/RUH is around 35 million travelers.

«The new airline is the last of a huge package of projects that will consolidate the position of our country as an International Center for Aviation and a Global Logistics Center», said Saudi Minister Saleh Al-Jjosser, on Twitter. Tony Douglas, ex-chief of Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, has been appointed CEO.

Riyadh Air Tentd will be hubed in the capital Riyadh. The announcement of Sunday 12/03 said that Riyadh Air would operate a fleet of advanced aircraft, but it has not been specified what type of aircraft and fleet size would use the Saudi startup. The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign fund that will own the airline, was close to an agreement with Boeing for an order of airplanes valued at US$ 35 billion.

The most busy international airport in the kingdom is currently in the coastal city of Jeddah/JED, in the Red Sea, where the Saudia flag airline is located. Known as the «Puerta de la Meca», the city welcomes millions of Muslims who make the pilgrimages of Hajj and Umrah every year. In recent years, officials have tried to position Riyadh, in the center of Saudi Arabia, as a rival of the Dubai business center.

«They want to turn it into a cosmopolitan city that competes with Dubai and Doha from an investment perspective, from a tourism perspective, from an infrastructure perspective. And to do that it needs to develop the country a center dedicated in Riyadh», he said in November 2022 Khalil Lamrabet, former CEO of the Saudi Arabia air connectivity program.

The capital currently has around eight million people, but officials have said that they want the population to grow at 15-20 million by 2030. Industry analysts have questioned whether Saudi Arabia’s objectives are feasible, and some describe the Regional market as currently saturated. However, the Saudi strategy depends in part on taking advantage of the domestic market in a country with a population of around 35 million, what officials see as a great advantage for national airlines over their rivals Emirates Airline and Qatar Airways.

«There is considerable outgoing traffic outside the kingdom, as well as considerable domestic traffic. Transfer dependence (flights) will not be as high as the other centers in the region», said Khalil Lamrabet.
