AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Those shares that are not purchased by TAP employees will become available for sale to the Gateway consortium, which currently holds a 45% stake in the airline.

Gateway, made up of Portuguese businessman Humberto Pedrosa (one of the country’s biggest fortunes) and Brazilian-American David Neeleman (owner of the airline Azul), shares ownership of the company with the Portuguese state, which owns 50%.

This joint control, agreed by the parties in February 2016 and approved by the Portuguese Competition Authority last August, entailed a strong recapitalization of the company, which had a liability of more than 1,000 million euros.

The State pledged to inject 30 million euros and the private consortium 90 million; in addition, it was established that there would be a joint board of administration, with six members chosen by Gateway and another six by the Portuguese State.  A\W

ATSSSAN reclama cargos a aerolíneas

ATSSSAN flays airlines over nonremittance of charges

AW | 2017 04 10 05:25 | AIRLINES MARKET

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

ATSSSAN flays airlines over nonremittance of charges

Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) has also joined the raging controversy over airlines’ refusal to remit the five per cent ticket and cargo sale charges, saying the action of airlines as illegal.

ATSSSAN President, Comrade Ahmadu Illitrus defended the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), noting that airline operators have been misleading Nigerians over the charges.

Speaking with newsmen over over the weekend, Illitrus said, «What we have witnessed over the years is that the domestic airlines i.e AON members and non-members alike collect the 5% TSC from passengers and refuse to remit to NCAA and or remit only a negligible percentage of the money and illegally utilize the larger unremitted percentage, thereby creating a huge deficit of unremitted portion of the money which now forms what is termed debt».

The President stressed that the five per cent charge does not amount to any tax on airlines, saying the nonremittance of the monies hampers the smooth running of the agencies.

«If we may ask, in what way has the regime of the 5% TSC affected in the negative the operation or survival of Nigerian indigenous airlines who actually collect the Charge from passengers and pocket it? Today the domestic airlines have illegally coveted over 16 billion 5% TSC», Illitrus said. He advised the airlines not «not to tow the path of disobedience to existing laws.» A\W

Aerolíneas no se va a privatizar

https://i0.wp.com/blog.bestday.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Avion-Aerolineas-Argentinas.jpg

AW | 2017 04 09 12:06 | AIRLINES

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Aerolíneas Argentinas is not going to be privatized

The manager of Institutional Relations of the airline, Felicitas Castrillón. He said that subsidies were cut in half and that in 2019 they would operate with their own resources.

Recently, authorities of Aerolíneas Argentinas were in Chubut to launch the Atlantic Corridor, which links the cities of Mar del Plata, Bahía Blanca and Trelew. The new route, which began in the early days of April, is part of the company’s new route plan and competition with new signatures that are added to the market, including low cost.

The manager of Institutional Relations, Felicitas Castrillón, spoke with FM Tiempo Trelew (91.5) about the company’s objectives, based on three axes: reduction of the deficit, greater connectivity and improvement in service quality.

Regarding the first point, Castrillón said that the use of state subsidies by the flag airline was reduced by half. It went from an average of US $ 700 million in the last 10 years, to US $ 300 during 2016. And the perspective is that in 2017 it will be between 160 and 170 million dollars. In the medium term, the goal is to reach 2019 to manage with own resources, assured the authority of the company.

He threw out more definitions: it marked that they will compete within the scenario of the arrival of the low cost and that «in no way» will be privatized the company, although many of the routes offered are those already in its possession Aerolineas Argentinas.

Regarding the company’s finances, Castrillon reviewed: «In the last 10 years he has demanded an average of 700 million dollars from the state. In 2016 used 300 million dollars that the State gave and this year we plan to operate with between 160 and 170 million dollars. A huge job to be more efficient. Understand costs and savings with entrepreneurial criteria and not so political «. In that sense it marked that «before they were chosen or lowered routes by political questions. We have obligations to give a good service, but without putting into play the finances of a country «.

Regarding the plan, he said: «We have a social role, but responsibly because we handle people’s money. We are not a ministry. It is the silver of the people, who would go to sewers, routes, to thousands of needs. We generate money because we offer a service and progressively we have a plan towards 2019 to be able to operate with own resources of the company, since also we generate silver because a service is rendered «.

The company’s authority asserted that there were different strategies to reduce expenses. One has to do with the printing of the tickets through the Web and avoid distribution. On the other hand, the reduction of meals services on board, which was saved last year between 5 and 6 million dollars.

«For the new scenario there are two answers. To the question of if we are going to transform ourselves into a low-cost, the answer is no. We charge for the bag, we give some service on board. And the low cost operate at other airports. There are changes to be more competitive because it competes with the low cost around the world. Because of the need to operate with our own, we have had to think about what kind of competitiveness we can have with respect to the rest. We can not operate as we did 10 years ago».

He explained: «We lowered the commission to the agencies which was a cost of distribution. Today with online sales, 50% of sales is by that route, it does not make sense the cost of distribution. We have to adapt without falling into a low cost scenario».

Specifically, he said that «we have reduced the service of meals in flights less than 2 hours. And in the majors to two hours we are offering a snak and a drink. When we looked to the side most airlines did not offer anything and we took a battery of not-so-friendly decisions».

50ºANV. PRIMER VUELO BOEING 737

CELEBRACIÓN PLANEADA PARA EL 50º ANIVERSARIO DEL PRIMER VUELO DEL BOEING 737 EL 9 DE ABRIL DE 1967

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

The Boeing 737, which transformed jet travel, turns 50 anniversary. A legacy for commercial aviation

CELEBRATION PLANNED FOR THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST FLIGHT OF BOEING 737 ON APRIL 9, 1967

The first flight of Boeing’s original 737 took place 50 years ago on Sunday, and Seattle’s Museum of Flight will mark the anniversary with a celebration that’s open to the public for the price of admission.

The occasion comes just weeks before the first delivery of the newest version of that jet, the Boeing 737 MAX. Brien Wygle, the pilot who commanded that first flight on April 9, 1967, will participate in a panel discussion at noon in the museum theater. “Fifty years ago we had no idea,” Wygle, 92, said in an interview this week. “We were hoping to eventually sell enough to break even.”

https://i0.wp.com/www.b737.org.uk/images/dimensions_737100.gif

As it turned out, the longevity and success of the 737 proved astounding. Boeing as of last month had delivered 9,448 of the single-aisle twinjets, with 4,506 more still on order.

And with the delivery of the first MAX coming soon, Boeing plans to ramp up production in Renton later this year to 47 jets per month and up to 52 per month next year.

“The 737 took the aviation world by storm and has been improved steadily since,” Wygle said. “It obviously filled an incredible need.”

A new 737 MAX will be on display in the museum parking lot Sunday, with a demonstration flight tentatively scheduled for 1:15 p.m. — the exact time the prototype 737 first took off.

And the original from 50 years ago will also be there for its birthday bash. That plane was used as a Boeing test aircraft until 1973, then sold to NASA for use as a flying research laboratory.

NASA donated the plane to the Museum of Flight in 1997, and during six years in storage at Moses Lake it was lovingly restored by a team led by former 737 engineer Bob Bogash. Bogash likes to say he’s been involved with the 737 “from womb to tomb.”

He worked as an engineer building the first airplane, then on the flight tests and later as a field rep for 10 years, traveling the world and helping airlines introduce the airplane.

And he was on board its final flight in September 2003 for the hop to Boeing Field and its final resting place at the museum.

He said the 737 changed aviation, bringing jet transport to tiny airports all over the world. “Small airlines flew it to remote places,” said Bogash. “We flew off unpaved runways in the Canadian North. Many of those airlines had never had a new airplane before and never had a jet airplane.” The 737 also transformed the economics of domestic flying in the U.S.

Its swift turnaround times, fuel efficiency and ability to operate from small airports produced the concept of low-fare carriers and brought air travel to the masses. Today, Southwest Airlines flies a fleet of more than 700 of the jets.

On Sunday, a reception from 2-4 p.m. will be in the museum’s Aviation Pavilion, next to the restored 737 No. 1, which still sports its NASA livery. A\W

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Of note is the Latin American market for Airbus, where it maintains orders (Latin America and the Caribbean) amounting to 427 aircraft, notably the A320 family, where the A320NEO plane has 319 orders, 25 of the A319NEO and 46 of the A321NEO. Single-aisle aircraft, where Airbus maintains the largest market share.

Boeing accumulates in the first three months of the year new orders for a total of 198 orders. In the same period it delivered 169 commercial aircraft in the first three months of the year. That is lower than in recent years, but close to the pace typically set by the company earlier this year.

The drop compared to recent years is due to the programs of airplanes still in development. Boeing workers assembled 737 MAX. However, the planes are still in the test phase.

The 169 deliveries are about 22 percent of Boeing’s end-of-year target of between 760 and 765 aircraft deliveries. That is not far behind the company’s pace during the first three months of the year, when it typically delivers 23 percent of its annual total, Matthew McConnell, an investment analyst at RBC Capital Markets, said in a research note to clients.

The popular 737 single-aisle company made up the bulk of the deliveries with 113. As for the accumulated orders of the Boeing 737 MAX amount to 5,800 airplanes. Next was the 787 with 32 deliveries. Boeing delivered 21,777, 2,767 and 1,747. The 747 operates under a lease. A\W

Airbus completa pruebas ruido A350-1000

3225417.jpg

AW | 2017 04 08 05:31 | INDUSTRY

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Airbus completes A350-1000 noise testing

The Airbus A350-1000 (MSN065), the larger variant of the A350 slated to seat 366 passengers in a typical three-class configuration, has completed a series of noise tests in Morón, south of Spain, between March 27 and April 5.

The noise trials are part of its type certification flight test campaign, paving the way for “entry into service on schedule before year end,” Airbus said in a statement. The MSN065 test aircraft has been fitted with a passenger cabin.

According to Airbus, the aircraft, together with acoustic ground facilities around the Morón Air Force base, Spain, were equipped with instruments and sensors to measure external noise levels during takeoff and landing, as well as engine run-ups. The widebody is powered by Rolls-Royce XWB-97 engines.

“The latest generation Rolls-Royce engines, combined with state-of-the-art aerodynamics technologies, contribute to the A350-1000’s reduced noise footprint,” Airbus said. “Early results confirm the -1000 is very quiet, easily complying with external noise certification requirements with significant margins versus current applicable requirements (EASA CS-36 and FAA Part 36),” Airbus added. “Like its sister aircraft the -900, which is in service with 11 carriers worldwide, the A350-1000 will be a good neighbor to communities around airports.”

Three A350-1000 flight test aircraft (MSN059, MSN071 and MSN065) are flying in the intensive type certification campaign, “which is progressing as planned,” according to Airbus.

The first Airbus A350-1000, MSN59, completed its maiden flight from Blagnac in Toulouse Nov. 24.

Launch customer for the A350-1000 is Qatar Airways, which was also launch customer for the -900. To date, 12 customers from five continents have placed orders for a total of 211 A350-1000s, Airbus said. A\W

20 años de servicio Embraer ERJ-145

CloudsBGAW | 2017 04 07 21:10 | INDUSTRY

https://i0.wp.com/www.ainonline.com/sites/default/files/uploads/2014/04/524-legacy-650-china-1.jpg

https://i0.wp.com/www.embraercommercialjets.com.cn/Photos/ERJ%20145%20XR/AC_EXR_000233_b.jpg

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Embraer re-launched aircraft, ERJ-145 completes 20 years

First manufacturer jet after privatization helped expand regional aviation worldwide

On April 6, 1997, the E-145 of the Brazilian Aeronautical Company (Embraer) entered into commercial service.

The 1990s were crucial to Embraer. At that time the company was still a state and faced serious difficulties because of the effects of the economic and political crisis of that time in Brazil, when the then President Fernando Collor was discharged. The salvage of the manufacturer, which ran the risk of going bankrupt, came with its privatization, which began in 1991, a very successful and fruitful move, as was the case of the ERJ (Embraer Regional Jets) jets, which have just completed 20 Years of service.

Resultado de imagen para ERJ-145

The development of the ERJ line was started still under state administration in 1989 but, due to the crisis, was soon paralyzed. The project was to be resumed only in 1993, when Embraer was already an independent company, and the ERJ-145 made its inaugural flight on August 11, 1995. Two years later, on April 6, Continental Express The United States, conducted the commercial launch of the first passenger jet designed and manufactured in Brazil.

https://i0.wp.com/www.embraercommercialaviation.com/PublishingImages/interna_highlights_145_2.png

Embraer’s entry into the market was very important for the advancement of regional aviation worldwide, since this segment was operated only by small, slower aircraft with turbo-propellers such as EMB-120 Brasília , Produced up to 2001. The ERJ-145, the family’s first model, was designed to carry 50 passengers and travel up to 3,700 km, which was then unheard of in aviation.

Before long, the list of orders by the ERJ was already huge, the majority coming from the USA. Continental Express, for example, has ordered 270 aircraft, and is currently the largest operator of the model – the company’s current fleet has about 170 aircraft.

Other major customers of the Embraer jet are Envoy Air and Trans States Airlines, which to date operate dozens of units of the jet manufactured in São José dos Campos (SP). In Brazil, the aircraft only flew in the extinct Rio-Sul and Passaredo between 2008 and 2015.

Family increases

From its inception, the ERJ project envisaged a family composed of three aircraft of different sizes. After the ERJ-145, the family grew in 1998 with the ERJ-135, the «youngest» of the series, with space for 37 passengers and autonomy for about 3,200 km. Already the third and last model of the series was the ERJ-140, designed to carry 44 occupants and able to realize flights of up to 3,000 km.

In about 10 years, hundreds of Embraer Regional Jets were scattered around the world, flying where traditional jets such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 overcame the demand for passenger occupancy, making their operations uneconomic. The Brazilian aircraft, on the other hand, had the right measure that the market demanded at that moment.

In 2003, Embraer partnered with China’s Harbin Aircraft Industry Group to set up the ERJ on Chinese soil, an operation that has been active for 13 years. In that period, the two companies manufactured more than 40 ERJ-145 jets and five Legacy 650 (executive model derived from the ERJ-135) in the Asian country, all for the local market.

Military Versions

The reliable ERJ platform was also used to create military versions. In 2002, Embraer began production of the EMB-145 AEW & C «radar aircraft», characterized by a large radar antenna at the top of the fuselage, capable of finding aircraft for more than 400 km away and flying at low altitude. The device was purchased by the air forces of Brazil, Greece, Mexico and India.

The ERJ-145 also originated marine and anti-submarine patrol versions (EMB 145 MP), ground surveillance and remote sensing (EMB 145 MULTI INTEL) and military transport, used by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) under the codename C- 99.

Changes in the market

With the oil boom in the early 2000s, ERJ jets became more expensive to operate, which slowed down their orders. However, during that same period, Embraer was already preparing a new card: the E-Jets, with greater capacity of passengers and superior reach – the first commercial flight of the E190 happened in 2004, with LOT Polish Airlines, of Poland.

The requests by the ERJ were reduced, but they did not disappear. Production of the three jets continued until 2011, primarily to serve US and European companies, regions where «new Embraer» aircraft were sold the most. During all these years, the only alternative to the Brazilian jets were the models CRJ, of the Canadian Bombardier, that still are produced.

Even with production closed, the ERJ family maintains its importance of world aviation, with almost 900 units produced. According to Embraer, an airplane of this series takes off every quarter of the world. In all, the first commercial jets of the Brazilian manufacturer made 2,260 flights per day and serve 1,140 airports.

Still far from being deactivated, the ERJs have regained notoriety with the recent fall in oil prices, especially in emerging markets. One example is Africa, where aircraft are gaining a second chance. The fleet of these models on the African continent increased from 16 in 2010 to 58 in 2017, flying now with 23 companies, well above the nine operators in 2010.

ERJ’s customer base has increased from 39 operators in 2010 to 70 in 2017 around the world, mainly to open new markets. Even in the North American market, the fleet of 50-seat jets is expanding. Embraer’s number of regional jet operators has tripled from 6 to 18 since 2010. Some units are even back in service with top regional airlines. Envoy (a subsidiary of American Airlines) is resuming the use of 37 ERJ-140s that were stored and putting them into service by the end of this year.

The worldwide success of the ERJs has elevated Embraer among the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world, behind only the giants Airbus and Boeing. Not only that, the regional jets have made the financial situation of the Brazilian company healthy enough to continue making more investments and continue to progress with increasingly advanced and capable aircraft.

Mudanças no mercado

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Grant for Boeing Sheffield

Aerospace giant Boeing will receive a £5.75 million grant to set up a £20m factory in Sheffield. The biggest plane maker in the world is receiving public funds from the Sheffield City Region, United Kingdom, a body which represents nine local councils.

The move was agreed by the Combined Authority ‘in the absence of the public and press’ at its latest meeting. The cash is from the £52m Business Investment Fund, half of which is for inward investment. McLaren Automotive is receiving £12m from the same fund to build a £50m factory on the Advanced Manufacturing Park. Sir Nigel Knowles, chair of the business arm of the Sheffield City Region said the Boeing grant ‘helps secure’ a research and development programme and a new factory. He added: “Boeing Sheffield and McLaren Automotive are globally recognised advanced manufacturers and we’re delighted to have been able to support them to locate here. In a globally competitive environment we will do whatever we can to make sure great businesses invest here».

“We have a balanced strategy of investment». This includes supporting major inward investors like Boeing as well as family-run city region firms. “We have helped unlock £50.5m of total investment into the city region – and we know that for every £1 we invest we will generate £24 of economic benefit.” The Boeing Sheffield factory will make ‘actuators,’ motors which move wing flaps. They will be shipped to the states to be fitted to wings which will be transported to a third site to be attached to planes. It is understood the local plant will be built near Sheffield University’s Factory 2050 on Sheffield Business Park near Catcliffe. There are also unconfirmed reports that Boeing has plans for four phases of construction in the region over several years. A\W
