«Decidimos hacer algo diferente.
Embraer improvements E175/E2-JET
Will announce improvements to E175-E1 and E2-Jet
Embraer SA plans to announce significant improvements to its first-generation E175-E1 and E2-JET family at the upcoming Farnborough International Air Show 2024, which will take place from July 22 to 26, 2024. The company will reveal better fuel consumption numbers. of fuel and takeoff performance, as well as lower maintenance costs achievable, said Rodrigo Silva e Souza, Vice President of Marketing and Strategy at Embraer Commercial Aircraft, on June 19, 2024. Embraer will also reveal improvements to the cabin. On the E175-E1, Embraer plans to introduce improvements to the interiors, avionics functionalities and add connectivity options. «We want it to remain competitive in the market», said Rodrigo Silva e Souza.
Embraer executives expressed confidence because they see higher demand than ever for the E2 family. Silva e Souza sees a combination of factors: strong passenger demand leading to rapid growth; Airbus and Boeing production limitations causing customers to seek alternative elevators; and more and more airlines are waking up to the idea of adding a smaller narrowbody aircraft to their fleets, as they tend to focus on the larger versions of the Airbus A320neo or Boeing 737 MAX families.
E2 economics is also becoming an increasingly important argument. KLM Cityhopper CEO Maarten Koopmans told an Embraer press conference ahead of Farnborough that the airline’s E2-JETs use around 30% less fuel per seat than the E1-JETs.
Farnborough 2024 could be «the best show in history for Embraer». —CEO Francisco Gomes Neto.
Orders secured this year include 90 E175-E1s for American Airlines and 20 E190/E195-E2s for Mexicana de Aviación.
Rodrigo Silva e Souza noted that the weakness seen in the US market as a result of the pilot shortage has ended. «American was very important to mark the return of the regional market in the United States», said the Vice President of Embraer Commercial Aircraft. Embraer is also talking to other US airlines. The pilot shortage has been more or less addressed by the airlines.
Embraer also expects a significant wave of imminent replacements in the US market. More than 300 76-seat aircraft will be retired by US regionals through 2030, generating replacement demand of around 40 aircraft per year for that market alone. Embraer plans to deliver between 72 and 80 commercial aircraft in 2024, up from 64 in 2023.
Francisco Gomes Neto said the company is targeting around 100 deliveries in 2026 and may see a further increase in production to around 130 in the coming years, mainly as demand for the E2-JET grows.
At the moment, production growth is being held back by problems with the Pratt & Whitney GTF geared turbofan engine. «Deliveries are restricted by the number of engines, we would like to deliver more. We are growing faster than competitors. Deliveries could increase by 30% this year. I expected the GTF problems to be largely overcome, even for hot operations and tough, by 2026», said Rodrigo Silva e Souza.
Meanwhile, Embraer has embarked on a project to introduce a more uniform production and delivery flow. «We want to improve the linearity of production and deliveries», said Gomes Neto. This is to avoid workload spikes at the end of each quarter and at the end of the year to meet production targets.
«We decided to do something different. It’s a cultural issue. It’s not good to deliver only at the end of the quarter», said Francisco Gomes Neto. The production process is less efficient and creates more overtime, which increases costs. To reach a more even flow, Embraer is developing more detailed weekly rather than monthly production plans, trying to ensure that «the right parts are there at the right time» and that quality problems are reduced. The Executive President of Embraer said that the first results should be noticed this year in 2024, but that the real effect should be felt from 2025.

Air China orders 100 C919s
Air China confirms purchase of 100 COMAC C919 aircraft
The airline Air China confirmed the purchase of one hundred (100) COMAC C919 aircraft, the Chinese-developed passenger aircraft with which the Asian giant wants to compete with the duopoly of the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320. In a statement sent last night to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the airline confirmed the agreement and specified that these hundred aircraft will be delivered in batches between 2024 and 2031 by the Chinese state manufacturer.
This aircraft, designed to directly rival the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320, is China’s big bet in the aeronautical sector, which falls within the narrow-body aircraft segment, a highly competitive market.
The C919, whose development lasted more than fourteen years, carried out its first commercial flight in May 2023, operated by the state-owned China Eastern Airlines, to which the first four units have been delivered, which have currently transported thousands of passengers on routes linking Shanghai with Chengdu and Beijing.
The C919 can accommodate between 158 and 192 seats and has a range of between 4,075 and 5,555 kilometers. The objective of the Chinese authorities is to achieve 10% of the commercial aviation market share in the country by 2025, having received more than a thousand orders, mainly from airlines of the Asian giant.
In addition, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) moved forward in early 2024 with the promotion of international recognition of the C919 with the aim of obtaining certifications from bodies such as the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Last year, COMAC assured that its goal is to achieve annual production of about 150 of these aircraft over the next five years, an important objective for an emerging industry of the Chinese aerospace giant.
