Eastern AirLines cancela orden 40 MRJ90

AW | 2018 01 26 13:31 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Eastern Air Lines cancels order 40 MRJ-90

Resultado de imagen para Mitsubishi MRJ-90 pngEastern Air Lines and Mitsubishi Aircraft have rescinded a purchase agreement for 40 MRJ-90 regional jets

The cancellation of Eastern Air Lines of the new Japanese regional aircraft will reduce about 10% of the firm orders of the manufacturer.

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. has announced that Eastern Air Lines rescinded orders of 20 MRJ-90 plus 20 negotiable options. The cancellation comes from the new majority shareholder of the airline, Swift Air. «They sold their business to Swift, they returned their AOC to the US FAA, so this is a change in their commercial consideration and we agreed that the best option for both parties was to complete the termination», says Yugo Fukuhara, Vice President of Mitsubishi. and General Sales and Marketing Manager. The loss of a client like Eastern Air Lines is regrettable, but they hope it does not have a major impact on the MRJ program.

Delays of the MRJ-90 Program

Mitsubishi Aircraft, which has already delayed its first deliveries five times, now expects to send its first airplanes in 2020. The MRJ made its first test flight in 2015 and since then it has been testing in the US. In January, Mitsubishi Aircraft was forced to announce a fifth delay, alleging that the MRJ-90 had not been certified as airworthy by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States.

Since then, other regional aircraft manufacturers have been pushing Mitsubishi Aircraft. Embraer of Brazil, considered the biggest player in space, is in mooring negotiations with Boeing. Bombardier of Canada has already joined Airbus. And a Chinese company, Comac, has presented its own regional jet.

Future customers of the MRJ-90

The agreement with Eastern Air Lines was signed in 2014, and deliveries were scheduled for 2019. However, the delivery schedule has been delayed due to two rounds of program delays since then. The manufacturer did not disclose the updated delivery schedule for Eastern Air Lines. With the cancellation of Eastern, Mitsubishi now has firm orders for 213 aircraft from six customers, including All Nippon Airways, Trans States Holdings, SkyWest Inc., Air Mandalay, Japan Airlines and Aerolease Aviation. The Swedish landlord Rockton signed a letter of intent for 10 MRJ90 in 2016, but has not yet been confirmed.

The MRJ Sales and Marketing team now has two priorities: take care of existing customers in a very difficult program situation and continue conversations with potential customers. There are several sales campaigns in progress, although it is unlikely that they will be completed in the short term. He also trusts the progress of the program and says that delivery to the All Nippon Airways launch client is on track for mid-2020.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has received orders for around 450 MRJ-90. According to the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries unit, the cancellation «will not affect» the delivery of other aircraft. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Airlines take measurements by missile tests

North Korea will begin missile tests in 2018

Airlines across Asia will take action after the announcements to the air threat by North Korea’s missile tests that will affect the safety of passengers.

North Korea launched 20 ballistic missiles in 2017, which has been an international alert for any airline with routes on or near the Korean Peninsula and the air space of the Sea of Japan. Most airlines responded by designing predetermined detours that will allow passenger aircraft to avoid danger.

Korean Air Lines responded by saying it would consider stopping flights from the Incheon International Airport to Guam, because of North Korea’s threats to US territory. In addition, the airline’s routes between the Incheon International Airport and Tokyo and Sydney could also be adversely affected if North Korea conducts another missile test in the region. It has been revealed that planes on some Japan Airlines routes have been carrying additional fuel to allow re-routing if a threat from North Korea is detected. Singapore Airlines has changed the route of its flight between Seoul and Los Angeles to avoid the northern part of the Sea of Japan. All Nippon Airways and Cathay Pacific, based in Hong Kong, have confirmed that they are monitoring the situation closely.

Pilots and passengers of flights in the region have witnessed what appeared to be missile-related activities from North Korea while they were in the air. Witnesses on a flight to Hong Kong from San Francisco saw parts of a North Korean ICBM test in November last year. In addition, the flashes of light that were suspected were missile tests from North Korea were also observed on a Japan Airlines flight last year. A \ W

American airlines restaura DC-3

Resultado de imagen para DC-3 American

AW | 2018 01 25 23:44 | AIRLINES HISTORY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

American airlines restores DC-3

American Airlines has restored a DC-3 of the year 1937

Current and former American Airlines employees have joined forces to restore and preserve a DC-3 passenger plane dated 1937, the «Detroit Flagship.»

The flagship of Detroit rises with a deep roar, since its polished aluminum skin reflects sunlight like a mirror.

In the 30s and 40s, the legendary DC-3 flew for 15 hours from New York to Los Angeles. The DC-9 Number 45 Detroit is the oldest flying plane of that type. The DC-3 was built at American’s request because it was large enough for passenger traffic to be profitable. American would eventually order 84 aircraft and operate them until 1947.

Retired US driver Dave Buffington said that driving Detroit is an honor. Buffington said: «It’s very forgiving and it’s nice to fly low and slow.» He added that «it is heavy in the controls because there is no electronic impulse for any of the flight controls, so all the cables are outside the flight controls and it is a bit heavy, but you get used to it very quickly.»

Keeping a piece of the airworthiness story is not easy for little money, but volunteers from the Flagship Detroit Foundation do it. Jim Gentry works at the US Maintenance Base, but he does his part of the work in Detroit. Gentry said: «Everyone is happy to do anything, at a time we may be changing a tire the next minute, maybe we are cleaning the windows whatever it takes to do it.»

For the passengers, it is exciting and nostalgic at the same time. Those who want to fly can join the Detroit Flagship Foundation, and rides are available year-round at no cost. A\W

Lecciones AF447 para búsqueda MH370

AW | 2018 01 25 17:02 | AVIATION SAFETY / AIR INVESTIGATION

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Lessons from the AF447 for the MH370 search

The wreck of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, if found, could be conserved «as a time capsule» due to the depth, stillness and temperature of the waters in the southern Indian Ocean

The man who co-directed the search for Air France AF447, which crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009, says that if MH370 is at or near the bottom of the sea, the remains and bodies could be preserved to a large extent, and still give them to the researchers clues as to why the plane disappeared so far from the course.

Air France’s AF447 flight was almost four kilometers deep in the water for almost two years before the search engines finally found it and retrieved the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. Both recorders were still in sufficient condition to shed light on the final minutes of the plane, despite having been immersed at such depth for so long. «Even if water comes in, they have ways to take away information, now in this case [MH370] is a bit different, because the plane was flying for about seven hours, and I do not know what kind of information would be in the black box», says US oceanographer David Gallo.

Australian oceanographers say that the Indian Ocean in the area of the current MH370 search, which began on Monday, includes several volcanoes and ridges, and is reduced to about 5 km deep.

Due to the complete absence of light in that deep ocean, Air France investigators used sonar signals from unmanned underwater vehicles to find the plane and then map its shape and position. Once the wreck was found, they used cameras to create a finely detailed mosaic of the entire wreck site. Dr. David Gallo says that the nearly four years of unsuccessful search of MH370 does not mean that the missing plane from Malaysia will not be found. A \ W

Mejoras Check-in en Aeropuerto Rosario

AW-0 (126).JPG

AW | 2018 01 25 16:47 | AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Improvements Check-in Rosario Airport

As of March, Rosario International Airport (AIR) Islas Malvinas will have a new operating dynamics

Through an agreement signed with the airlines operating in Rosario and an international aeronautical telecommunications specialist company, a technological platform will be added for the assignment of the check-in counters, which will no longer be destined for a single airline and will become mobile and rotary, according to the needs of each moment. It will be the fifth airport in the country to apply this type of technology that, according to the authorities, will allow working in a more dynamic way and incorporate new companies that want to operate from Rosario. The investment will be US $ 94 thousand dollars.

At the Rosario International Airport there are 22 check-in counters to carry out the check-in procedures assigned to the six airlines that connect the city with other destinations: Avianca, Copa Airlines, Latam Airlines, Sky Airline, Gol Linhas Aéreas and Aerolineas Argentinas / Austral Airlines.

«If we did not make any changes, it would reach a point where we would not be able to receive more airlines due to lack of physical space», explained the spokeswoman for the local airport, Cecilia Gabenara. In fact, today some of these companies, whose flights do not coincide in time, share counters. «The way to progress and that there may be new arrivals is to make a strong investment in technology», said Gabenara. For this, the bet was to sign an agreement between the airport, the airlines that operate in it and the company Sita (International Aeronautical Telecommunications Society). The agreement was signed during the second half of 2017 and the new work modality should be operational by next March. On March 24, the Brazilian airline Blue Linhas Aéreas will disembark in Rosario, which will link Recife-Rosario, making it more difficult for airlines to have more counters.

Those responsible for the airport argued that this mode of organization will also allow other companies to start operating from Rosario. «Many authorizations have been granted to companies that have not yet landed in Rosario, but we have the potential to do so», said Gabenara.

The new technological platform will convert the current 22 check-in counters in the central hall into shared-use or common-use counters, according to the demand for spaces required by the airlines. This technological solution will allow the airport to enable counters (counters) to the companies that need to operate at a certain moment. If there is only one flight that company can have the 22 counters, or those that request, depending on the staff that counts. If there are more, they will be distributed through the application. «The advantage of this innovation is the facilitation of spaces for companies so that they can count on a greater number of positions with a passenger processing system and speed up accreditation times», they explained. This technology already works in four other airports in Argentina: Aeroparque, Ezeiza, Mendoza and Córdoba. Rosario will be the first state management. A \ W

Ampliación Aeropuerto Jorge Newbery

AW-70089771

AW | 2018 01 25 16:33 | AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Jorge Newbery Airport Expansion

The Government of Argentina will carry out expansions in the Aeroparque Jorge Newbery

Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, will have to conclude the landscaping works and adaptation for the projected work of remodeling and expansion of the South head of Jorge Newbery Airport. The measure was arranged by decree 70/18, includes a property of just over twelve hectares, which runs from the polygon delimited by the new Avenue Costanera Rafael Obligado, Sarmiento Avenue and the roundabout linking them, which was part of the location of the previous Costanera Avenue and that was between the new route and the landing strip.

In this area, the concessionaire started the landscaping and expansion of the parking lot, on the grounds that the North parking lot will soon be unoccupied to allow the expansion of the Passenger Terminal, and the instrumentation of new positions for aircraft.

The works projected on the ceded lands include the extension of the track 180 meters to the south; the extension of the runway end areas 90 meters to the south, and the preparation of an area against the erosion of the land at both ends of the runway. In addition, the expansion of the parallel taxiway and the creation of a new taxiway access road are also contemplated. The works come at a time when the government is looking to expand the offer of low cost airlines (low cost) for the local market.

The National Government incorporated to the Aeroparque Jorge Newbery the land through which Costanera Avenue passed. Now a new expansion is expected, which will allow more aircraft to concentrate due to the increase in demand. A \ W

Investigación American AA383

AW | 2018 01 25 15:28 | AVIATION SAFETY / AIR INVESTIGATION

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

American AA383 Research

Investigation of American Airlines flight AA383

American Airlines Flight AA383 was a regular passenger flight operating from Chicago O’Hare Airport to Miami International Airport. On October 28, 2016, the Boeing 767-300ER operating the flight (registered N345AN), was accelerating to take off from Rwy 28R of Chicago O’Hare, when the right engine of the aircraft suffered an uncontrolled fault that caused a fire severe. The crew managed to abort the takeoff and evacuate everyone on board, while the emergency fire services managed to put out the fire. Twenty people were injured, and the plane suffered irreparable damage.

The AA383 flight of American Airlines aborts take-off by fire principle. The Boeing 767-300 starts to catch fire, so the crew declares the emergency and evacuates all the passengers by means of the inflatable slides and the emergency exits on the wings.

At least twenty people were hospitalized for minor injuries. The captain of the aircraft, upon aborting the takeoff, caused the brakes to be subjected to the maximum demand, causing overheating and subsequent fire of the same.

The lack of visibility seemed to be one of the reasons why passengers evacuated the Boeing 767-300 at O’Hare Airport in Chicago.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined that there was a delay in the evacuation responses of the Boeing 767-300 by the crew of flight AA383 at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

The investigators requested interviews to the pilots to corroborate if a video camera could have alerted them, because the command crew could not see the beginning of fire in the wing zone. The NTSB is studying the case to determine if it is necessary to develop new safety directives to alert the crew to this type of emergency. A \ W
