AW-7000300

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Bombardier gets favorable ruling from CSeries

Bombardier_old.svgBombardier Inc. has achieved a victory over CSeries sales to Delta Air Lines

The US International Trade Commission (USITC) voted unanimously in favor of Bombardier and against Boeing‘s claim that the sale to airlines of the next generation of the CSeries CS-100 to Delta Air Lines unfairly damaged the sales of its rival Boeing 737-700.

Boeing and Bombardier have been in a commercial dispute over the sale of 75 CSeries aircraft to Delta in 2016. The agreement also includes an option for 50 additional aircraft.

Boeing-Bombardier commercial dispute

Boeing filed a complaint with the US Department of Commerce in April 2017 alleging that its business was damaged when Delta received unnaturally low prices on Bombardier aircraft, which were only made possible through Canadian government subsidies.

«The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) ruled today that a US industry is not seriously injured or threatened with material injury due to imports of large civil aircraft from 100 to 150 seats in Canada that the The US Department of Commerce has determined that they are subsidized and sold at a value below fair value. As a result of the negative determinations of the USITC, no antidumping or countervailing orders were issued», the statement said.

Boeing needed only two of the four ITC commissioners to vote, but Bombardier needed three. The four voted in favor of Bombardier. This vote cancels a rate of 299.45% for the aircraft of the CSeries of the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier bound for the United States, proposed by the Department of Commerce in October 2017.

Bombardier said: «Today’s decision is a victory for innovation, competition and the rule of law, it is also a victory for US airlines and the traveling American public.» The CSeries is the most innovative and efficient new aircraft in the world. Its development and production represent thousands of jobs in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. We are very proud of our employees, investors and suppliers who have worked together to bring this remarkable aircraft to the market. We are advancing at full speed with the completion of our partnership with Airbus, the integration planning is going well, and we hope to offer the CSeries to the US market so that American airlines and the American public can enjoy the many benefits of this remarkable aircraft».

Boeing expressed disappointment that the ITC did not recognize the damage that Boeing has suffered from the billions of dollars in illegal government subsidies. The Chicago-based aviation giant also said it disagreed with the ruling and would continue to document cases of damage to its business for what it said were illegal subsidies and dumping behavior. Boeing could still appeal ITC’s decision in the US judicial system or in the World Trade Organization.

Bombardier and Delta have argued that the Boeing 737-700 is a significantly larger aircraft than the CS100 jets ordered by Delta and therefore does not compete in the same market segment and could not damage Boeing with attractive sales systems.

Green light for the CSeries

BCA-C-Series-LP-960X525-en

The CS100 is configured to carry 100 pax. Boeing has not produced a commercial aircraft with seats of 100 to 110 since it decided to cancel the production of the Boeing 717.

Delta Air Lineas operates approximately 60% of the Boeing 717-200 existing in the world market, has said that part of the CS100 ordered will be used to replace the older Boeing 717.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian recently said Boeing’s counteroffer to Bombardier involved a batch of 20 second-hand Brazilian Embraer regional aircraft.

«Delta is pleased by the failure of the US International Trade Commission to reject Boeing’s anti-competitive bid to deny US and US airlines public access to the modern 110-seat CS100 aircraft when Boeing offers no viable alternative», said Delta. he said in a statement. «The airline expects to present the innovative CS100 to its fleet for the benefit of Delta employees, customers and shareholders».

Delta is expected to receive its first CSeries aircraft in 2Q2018. The initial batch of aircraft CS100 of the airline is probably in New York and Los Angeles.

In October 2018, Airbus acquired a majority stake in Bombardier’s CSeries program and announced plans to move aircraft production from the United States to its plant in Mobile, Alabama.

Bombardier defends the production plan of Alabama

The recent ruling will affect the Bombardier-Airbus agreement for good. Executive President Alain Bellemare said that Bombardier still plans to move forward with an assembly line in Alabama, United States, after it obtained a favorable ruling on tariffs imposed arbitrarily of almost 300% on products of the CSeries, winning A commercial dispute with Boeing leste Friday.

In October 2017, the European aerospace company Airbus agreed to take a majority stake in the CSeries aircraft (CS-100/CS-300) and said the aircraft would be manufactured in Mobile, Alabama, where Airbus will assemble some of its fuselage aircraft narrow.

«We are committed to creating jobs in the US», said Alain Bellemare, who recently met with his Airbus counterpart to discuss the company’s integration plan. «We are doing a lot of work in the US and we will do more by putting the assembly line in Mobile, Alabama», A\W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

emb120_line - copiaThe Brazilian manufacturer Embraer S.A. it will focus on the certification of the EMB-190 E2 and EMB-195 E2 aircraft, said General Manager John Slattery. «Until we obtain our certificate for the Embraer E2, it will be difficult for me to go to shareholders and request investment for a new platform, and I am very aware of that», said Embraer’s CEO.

The manufacturer expressed the idea of resuming the production of turboprop aircraft after a break of almost two decades so they continue to evaluate the «E3 Project», Stage 3 aimed at the production of new generation turboprops based on the E-120 / E-145. Recently, Embraer has announced that there are no immediate plans to re-enter the market, but there is a likelihood in the near future to approve the project.

EMBRAER EMB-120 BRASILIA OF UNITED EXPRESS

The series production of EMB-120s, the last of Embraer’s turboprops, was successful, especially in regional airlines in the United States. The manufacturer delivered a total of 361 aircraft of the type between 1983 and the cessation of production in 2001. The ERJ-145 was designed as a development boosted as jet aircraft of the EMB-120 and shares a large part of the parts with the previous turboprop .

The regional aircraft market turboprops is dominated by Avions de Transport Régional, the Franco-Italian consortium that leads the production and sales around the world. Bombardier is the only manufacturer struggling to share the turbo-fuel market. Embraer will need wide backs to be able to enter again the segment of turbohélices, a market that has lost and difficult to dominate. A \ W

Incremento tarifas aéreas en EEUU

AW | 2018 01 27 15:17 | AIRLINES MARKET

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Increase air fares in the US

Air fares could suffer an increase in 2018 due to higher fuel costs

Air fares may be rising this year, driven by the rising cost of a barrel of oil. The airlines say they must recover the significantly higher fuel costs described in the January 2018 earnings reports and projections.

The price of crude rose sharply last year, reaching $ 70 per barrel this week. Because jet fuel is one of the biggest single expenses airlines face, the increase cost airlines billions more over the past year.

Airlines generated record profits in recent years, while rates remained low, helped by the price of a barrel of Brent oil falling below $ 30 per barrel in January 2016. The drop provided a huge cost break after reach $ 140 per barrel in 2008 and $ 125 in 2012.

«I think the most important thing that we have in our favor in 2018 is a strong economy with a lot of optimism,» said Delta Air Lines General Manager Ed Bastian. So that’s the main focus in terms of being able to recover fuel costs». American Airlines reported Thursday that consolidated fuel expenses grew 23.5% last year. Derek Kerr, chief financial officer, said the airline projects another 24.1% increase this year, or $ 1.8 billion more for fuel. The President of United Airlines, Scott Kirby, projected on Tuesday a wind against 1,600 million dollars this year due to higher fuel costs. Delta Air Lines reported an increase of $ 349 million in fuel costs on January 11 during the last three months of last year, which was 23% higher than the previous year, according to Paul Jacobson, CFO.

The executives of the airlines said that they were profitable with $ 100 per barrel of oil and could do it again. But the open question for each airline during earnings calls with investment analysts was whether carriers could recover those rising costs this year through higher ticket prices. United Airlines General Manager Doug Parker said air fares are often behind strong fluctuations in oil prices.

Analysts reacted with skepticism to proposals that airlines can recoup higher fuel costs due to concern that carriers add too many flights and seats to avoid a rate war. But airline executives said they have been profitable with much higher fuel prices and could do so again. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Qatar first customer A350-1000

Qatar Airways will receive the first Airbus A350-1000. The delivery of the first Airbus A350-1000 will take place in February 2018

Airbus Group will deliver the first A350-1000 aircraft to an airline to Qatar Airways between February 15 and 20, 2018, Airline Executive Chairman Akbar al-Baker said on Saturday. The delivery of the largest twin-engine passenger plane in Europe to the launch customer Qatar Airways will begin the opening of commercial flights for this new version of the A350. Qatar has ordered a total order of 37 A350-1000.

Chasing quality

The main airline of the Middle East is known to be a demanding customer when checking aircraft for quality defects before delivery. Qatar Airways refused in the past to receive aircraft for what it said were quality problems, and also canceled some deliveries. The delivery of the first Airbus A350-1000 launch customer was delayed due to problems in the installation of seats in business class. The complex seating configuration of the QSuite of Qatar Airways, executive class with opposite seats and flat double beds, delayed the delivery of the A350-1000, until February 2018. «We are progressing very well to receive our plane somewhere between the 15th and 20th on February», Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar al-Baker told reporters in Doha.

A350-1000 aiming for leadership

Airbus expects to «deliver the world’s first A350-1000 to Qatar Airways in the coming weeks», Airbus operations director Fabrice Bregier said in a press release issued by the airline.

The A350-1000 will be the first Airbus aircraft to have the Qsuite, which was introduced last year and which has been installed on Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777 aircraft, said Akbar al-Baker.

The A350-1000 is the largest version of the A350 series and was launched to compete against the Boeing 777-300 in the market of up to 400 seats. Qatar Airways expects to receive this 2018 four Airbus A350-1000. Qatar plans to initially fly its first A350-1000 on long-haul routes.

On the other hand, Qatar said it expects to receive its first Boeing 777X in the first half of 2020. The airline has ordered 60 of these new aircraft, Boeing said. A \ W

InselAir atraviesa turbulencias

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

InselAir goes through turbulence

The airline of the Netherlands Antilles goes through operational problems

Insel Air based in Curaçao is going through operational problems, lack of aircraft and lack of spare parts to maintain its two aircraft: an MD-83 and a Fokker 50.

In recent days, Insel has had great problems maintaining its flight schedule. Due to the lack of operational capacity of InselAir, Sunrise Airways of Haiti is providing services for the airline of Curaçao. The hiring of other aircraft requires a heavy expense for the company that could be difficult to maintain for a while. The Haitian Sunrise Airways made the flights for InselAir with Airbus A320 between Curaçao and Sint Maarten.

Although the Fokker 50 has again made flights on Friday, the same plane will be out of service again on Saturday for a scheduled engine maintenance.

The airline could be going through a lack of liquidity to meet current and operational expenses to keep the aircraft operational.

InselAir covers links between Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba that are being operated by Sunrise Airways. Today InselAir does not have scheduled flights departing from Hato Airport, not having confirmation of the start of operations scheduled for the week.

The Dutch Ministry of Environment and Transport (ILT) has carried out routine inspections on the airline with negative results, which would call into question the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of InselAir.

Effects in the region

The deteriorated operations of Insel Air would have very negative effects if they completely paralyze in the already unstable economy of Curaçao, but it would also represent great challenges for travelers from and to Bonaire. Insel Air represents more than 80% of all seats available between Curaçao and Bonaire. InselAir is also the only airline that runs flights between Curaçao and Sint Maarten, after Winair recently disconnected its flights between the two islands. A \ W

InselAir doorloopt turbulentie

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Austral proposes purchase of aircraft

Austral Líneas Aéreas will deprogram its Embraer E190-100AR when a commitment is obtained to acquire new aircraft for fleet replacement

All White Boeing 737-700 IllustrationAerolíneas Argentinas formally started the process to get rid definitively of the Embraer planes, by new aircraft for the Austral Líneas Aéreas fleet. Although the company reported that the replacement would be for aircraft of equal size in the Aerolineas Argentinas fleet, the Boeing 737, this week, the company sent a proposal to the four major global players in the sector. Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier that will be the bidders for the replacement of the 26 Embraer E190-100AR aircraft of Austral Líneas Aéreas, of which 24 are under ownership and two acquired through the leasing system.

From the company argue that the Embraer E190 have completed a stage in Austral, as the aviation market is increasing the number of passenger traffic. Due to the higher demand, the E-190 aircraft are adjusted to the demand, and the crew costs are practically the same as a projected flight with a Boeing 737-700 / 800.

Regardless of the results of the negotiations with the different aircraft manufacturers, the strongest position is a homoganeisation of the aircraft fleet that will result in operational benefits for the Aerolíneas Group. One option would be studying a fleet for Austral Boeing 737-700 aircraft adjusted to the market of the group’s regional airline.

104482Case of the Embraers in Austral

The Aerolíneas Group notified the lessors of the 24 Embraers that the sale process is approved for sale. Due to the high charges and high acquisition costs of the E-190, the market showed great interest in a package of aircraft of this type. The decision to purchase Brazilian aircraft had a political and an economic component. Brazil financed the purchase through its development bank BNDES. The current executives tried to renegotiate the debt that is around U $ S 280 million dollars. Since the financial showed little interest in the Argentina offer. The Aerolíneas Group then decided to cancel it unilaterally in advance, obtaining a commercial credit that, according to financial projections, will be between 3 and 4 points less than the one delivered by the BNDES. The operation has already been approved by the Ministry of Finance.

In this way the formal exit of the Embraer will begin. But first we must pay attention to the cause in which we investigate the supposed surcharge of U$S 5 million that would have been paid for each one of them. The beginning of a stage of investigations has begun, a presumed fraud that could be around U$S 120 million, splashing the political and commercial elite. A \ W

UALA denuncia a ANAC falta de controles

AW | 2018 01 26 15:03 | AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

UALA denounces ANAC for lack of controls

UALA of Argentina denounces that Flybondi used nomanclatura of Austral Líneas Aéreas

Presentaci_n_Embraer_190_Austral_009-249ef.jpg

According to a statement issued by the Union of Airline Aviators (UALA), and signed by its owner Genaro Trucco, on the promotional flight that FlyBondi made on Monday in the 1477422950643.pngprovince of Cordoba, he used the Radiotelephone nomenclature of the series 2000-FO2710 that corresponds to him to Austral Líneas Aéreas.

The incident that occurred with the Boeing 737-800 of Flybondi in a promotional flight has been transcended by a mishap in one of the engines and it must have landed. The pilot used the 2000-FO2710 nomenclature assigned to Austral Líneas Aéreas, which has resulted in confusion with Air Traffic Control. The nomenclature is used in aircraft for identification with the Air Traffic Control. This code that is used to identify each aircraft allows to provide information and precise instructions to each aircraft.

In view of this irregular fact, UALA has communicated by means of a complaint to the regulatory body of the ANAC, which identifies the responsibility of what happened, noting that it has been exposed to the operational insecurity of the aircraft.

UALA has denounced the ANAC for lack of controls: «We have learned that the flight of the FlyBondi company taken off from the airport of the City of Córdoba, has done so with the Radiotelephone nomenclature whose number corresponded to the 2000 series (FO2710), which is public and notorious knowledge that corresponds to the Austral Airlines Company. This is a fact of such seriousness, since the confusion in the designation in communications with air control and maximum in emergency situations such as the one that occurred directly affects the operational safety, potentially presenting catastrophic consequences. It is at least incredibly clumsy, that the numerical nomenclator facilitated by the ANAC to the FlyBondi company is of the same series that historically assigned to Austral L.A. being that the awkwardness does not surprise, but it must be addressed, is that we make this formal complaint. We request that the denounced fact be investigated and that the air traffic controllers and companies adhere to the existing series of codes in the identification of air operations, «they say, and ask the ANAC to» urgently adopt the necessary measures to prevent violations and failures in matters of security, in pursuit of the integrity of workers and passengers transported throughout the territory of the Argentine Republic under warning of formalizing the corresponding complaints for breach of the duties of a public official».

On the part of FlyBondi, this morning at a press conference, they were not informed of what happened and they found out by the journalists present. «It’s the first time I hear about this complaint. We have our own frequency», explained Julia Cook, CEO of the airline. In as much, from ANAC still there were no answers in this respect.

Flybondi has asked Andes Líneas Aéreas for technical support to monitor an anomaly in the speedometer of a Boeing 737-800, according to sources close to the Flybondi technical area. Although the ANAC has approved the aircraft maintenance workshops for Flybondi, it still does not seem to have the relevant tools for elementary routine work in an airline. A\W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Flybondi starts operations in Argentina

Flybondi begins its operations joining its first commercial flight Córdoba-Iguazú

Flybondi started the countdown for its inaugural commercial flight. On Friday, January 26, at 3:00 PM, the first flight to Iguazu will take off from the International Airport of Córdoba using Boeing 737-800 from the low cost airline of Argentina.

This is the beginning of a new era in Argentine aviation with the low-cost modality that Flybondi invites to know «the freedom to fly», according to its commercial slogan. The CEO of Flybondi, Julian Cook, says that «when a company offers low prices, people respond».

The low cost company began the commercialization of its tickets through the website on January 11 and sold more than 10,000 tickets in the first 24 hours of operations. In addition, he received more than 30,000 resumes to work in the company.

«The low cost worked all over the world – even in India – and we believe that in Argentina the system will also be a success. When a company offers low prices, people respond. That is universal. This country is an opportunity, with enormous distances».

The routes

So far, Flybondi has 16 routes scheduled to operate until now: 11 from El Palomar, 3 from Córdoba and 2 from Mendoza. Founded in 2016, the company sells tickets to fly from Córdoba to Iguazú (from 26/1), to Bariloche (27/1) and to Mendoza (29/1). From Buenos Aires, based at El Palomar airport, it will fly to 11 destinations: Córdoba (the first flight will be 9/2), Bariloche (26/2), Neuquén (26/2), Tucumán (28/2) , Corrientes (5/3), Mendoza (5/3), Jujuy (13/3), Posadas (30/4), Bahía Blanca (3/5), Salta (7/5) and Santiago del Estero (10 / 5). From Mendoza, the flights will be to Bariloche (from 30/1) and Iguazú (1/2).

The market

«We are not here to steal passengers from other airlines or other means. The market we target is the large number of people who stay at home during weekends watching television and now they will be able to go to Bariloche, Mendoza or Iguazú because prices will allow it. Many people will also be able to visit their relatives and friends in the interior of the country more frequently; and others will be able to live in one city and work in another, going a couple of times a week to meetings. In addition, we intend to lower prices in tourist destinations during the off-season», said the CEO of Flybondi. A\W
