Sociedad Americana de Servicios de Navegación Aérea

AW | 2017 06 23 10:28 | AIR TRAFFIC / GOVERNMENT

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

American Air Navigation Services Corporation

The House Transportation Committee Chairman, Bill Shuster, today unveiled his bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration, make other aviation changes and, significantly, privatize U.S. air traffic control

The bill would create a federally chartered, not-for-profit corporation called the American Air Navigation Services Corporation (AANSC). The purpose, according to the proposed legislation, is to «provide for the more efficient operation and improvement of air traffic services». Although federally-chartered, the corporation would not be a part of the United States government. It would be subject to «performance-based regulations and minumum safety standards» but otherwise responsible for establishing and managing US air traffic services.

The bill would take air traffic out of the hands of the federal government and put it in a private company run by a CEO and 12 directors. Two directors would be appointed by the Secretary of Transportation. The airlines would nominate 3 directors. Lobbying groups for – the bill refers to them euphemistically as «the principal organizations representing» – general aviation, business aviation owners and operators, aviation-related entities (such as fixed-base operators), general aviation manufacturers, major airports and airport executives would nominate a total of 3 directors. One director each would be nominated by unions representing air traffic controllers and airline pilots. Two additional directors would be nominated and selected by the other directors.

While the bill provides conflict of interest and fiduciary requirements, I do not believe they are sufficient to overcome the nominating process which puts far too much control of our nation’s skies in a very small group of interested parties – the airlines and aviation lobbying groups. Notably absent from the Board is any requirement for passenger or consumer representation. Nor is there any provision for unmanned aircraft to hold a seat.

In my opinion, the FAA could certainly improve on the speed with which it is modernizing the nation’s air traffic control system. But it’s done a commendable job keeping the skies safe and balancing the needs of the myriad users of the system which now includes a growing presence of unmanned aircraft. Changing control of the nation’s skies should not be undertaken lightly and certainly should not be put in the hands of private parties with inherent conflicts of interest in use of the airspace.

Fortunately, the Senate’s proposed FAA reauthorization bill does not include any provision for privatizing air traffic control. Let’s hope the House provisions don’t make it out of the transportation committee. A \ W

Interés de Qatar Airways comprar 10% de American Airlines

AW | 2017 06 23 10:12 | AIRLINES ALLIANCE

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Interest of Qatar Airways to buy 10% of American Airlines

The airline Qatar Airways has been awarded the best service in the world, now has an interest of 10% American Airlines in times of political tension in the Persian Gulf

Qatar Airways plans to buy 10% of American Airlines‘ share at a time when Doha is at the center of a diplomatic crisis in the Persian Gulf. The unexpected catarí proposal was revealed by American Airlines in a document sent to the US authorities of stock control, indicating that it offered to pay u $ s808 million. In addition, the chief executive of Qatar Airlines told his American counterpart that they expect to make up 10% of the American airline.

«The investment proposed by Qatar Airways was not requested by American Airlines and will in no way imply changing the integration of the steering committee, nor governance, management or strategic direction,» the US airline said in a statement to authorities.

American noted, however, that any investor seeking to acquire more than 4.75% of its capital must receive prior authorization from its board of directors. Qatar Airways said it would not exceed that amount without proper authorization and that it will comply with all the obligations imposed by the regulations. «Qatar Airways sees a strong possibility of investment in American Airlines,» the company said in a statement.

The offer arrives when Qatar is in full conflict with its neighbors Saudi Arabia, Bareihn and the United Arab Emirates, who accuse Doha of supporting Iran and extremist groups and suspended all flights to and from Qatar.

The Catamaran airline downplayed the impact of that dispute on its business and on June 14 said the «vast majority» of its flight network was not being harmed. However, analysts said the company’s profitability could suffer if the crisis drags on.

Qatar Airways is awarded
At the Paris International Airshow, Qatar Airways was honored as the world’s best passenger airline; A prize highly sought after by companies. Akbar al-Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways, who is known for not having «hair on his tongue», took advantage of that prize to lash out at his company’s regional rivals. «In these difficult times of illegal bans on flights imposed by big bullies, this award is not for me, not for my airline, but for my country,» he said.

American also has its disputes with Qatar Airways, as well as with other Middle Eastern companies, which they accuse of receiving subsidies that the United States aviation sector considers violating international agreements. American chief executive Doug Parker and his counterparts from US-based Delta Air Lines and United Airlines also called on President Donald Trump to take action on alleged $ 50 billion in subsidies to Qatar Airways and two other Middle- Which they consider to be a disloyal and illegal form of competition.

Qatar Airways ‘offer «does not alter American Airlines’ belief» that «Open Skies» agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar should be obeyed and ensure clean competition with Gulf companies, American said in its note to the Authorities. He added that the company continues to believe that Trump and his administration «will stand before foreign governments to end the massive subsidies to airlines that threaten the US aviation industry and American jobs.»

Qatar Airways already has a stake in other foreign airlines; Including the group International Consolidated Airlines Group, to which British Airways belongs. A \ W

AIRBUS

Airbus orders orders for 326 commercial vessels worth 39.7 billion

Airbus has secured orders for a total of 326 commercial ships valued at $ 39.7 billion, the manufacturer said on Thursday, including 144 aircraft worth $ 18.5 billion ($ 16.5 billion Of euros) and memoranda of understanding on 182 units valued at 21.2 billion dollars (18.984 million euros), all of which were achieved during the Paris Air Show.

The company has reported that the family experiencing stronger sales is the A320, with a total of 306 deliveries valued at 33.8 billion dollars (30.266 billion euros). Of these, 132 are firm reserves with a value of 14.7 billion dollars (13.163 billion euros) and agreements of understanding on 174 aircraft for 19.1 billion dollars (17.103 billion euros).

Airbus commercial director John Leahy said that this week’s success in Paris «extends Airbus’ already diversified offer to a new record in the industry of 6,800 aircraft.» In addition to the new purchases, the company said in a statement that DHL Express had ordered conversions of four A330-300 passenger-to-cargo aircraft.

The manufacturer has highlighted the strength of sales and improvement «in all strata», from cargo aircraft, to passenger aircraft of all types and the increase in fuel economy and comfort due to technological innovation.

Emirates resists buying more A380s while superjumbo’s future is clouded

Emirates, the world’s largest operator of the Airbus A380 superjumbo, said it is reluctant to place a further order for the double-decker jet until the future of the slow-selling model becomes clear.

With Airbus mulling production cuts if not new deals are secured this year, Dubai-based Emirates needs reassurances about the European planemaker’s plans for the A380 as much as it does additional cost savings, Tim Clark, its president, said Wednesday in Paris.

Airbus this week formalized plans to fit the A380 with fuel-saving winglets to help boost efficiency by as much as 4 percent, dubbing the upgraded aircraft the A380plus. The manufacturer has not offered to retrofit the drag-reducing, 15-foot extensions to the 95 plans that Emirates has taken delivery of, or provide them on the 45 yet to come, Clark said. I would have liked to have more of the jets.

Iran’s Zagros Airlines commits to 28 Airbus NEO’s

Iranian domestic carrier Zagros Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the purchase of 28 aircraft at the Paris Air Show, Airbus announced June 22. The Tehran-based airline intends to buy 20 A320neos and eight A330-800neos, an Acquisition valued at $ 4.2 billion at list prices.

Zagros operates a fleet of 11 Airbus A320 family aircraft, in addition to nine DC-9s. «These aircraft will allow Zagros to modernize and expand its fleet with minimal change benefiting from our fleet commonality which is unique to Airbus,» Airbus COO and Commercial Aircraft president Fabrice Brégier said at the signing. Airbus said the MOU is contingent upon all necessary approvals, including those from the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

AirAsia signed a service agreement with Airbus

AirAsia co-founder Tony Fernandes signed a services agreement with Airbus earlier this week and stayed on for further negotiations with his company’s sole aircraft supplier, sources said, while cautioning a deal could not be guaranteed.

Airbus declined to comment, while officials at AirAsia could not be reached for comment. Going into the fourth trade day of the Paris Airshow, Boeing was ahead on net, new orders and commitments after launching a new version of its 737 MAX family of planes.

ATR

ATR has sold 89 aircraft since the beginning of the year to 2.3 billion dollars

ATR, a joint venture owned by Leonard and Airbus, has received since the beginning of 89 aircraft orders valued at more than $ 2.3 billion and added an additional 20 options. The order book comprises 250 aircraft as well.

During this week’s Aeronautical Show in Paris, ATR announced new agreements allowing both ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 to develop new markets, China and Africa in particular. ATR has announced new deals today: for the Swedish BRA ATR 72-600, which leads to the fleet of this family to a total of 10 aircraft, and an ATR 72 -600 for Air Tahiti, the company that operates with ATR during More than three decades. In total, five new agreements were announced at Le Bourget.

ATR has signed an agreement earlier this year for 50 ATR 52-600 with Indigo Indian and ATR-20 600 and another 20 additional options with Iran Air. Since January, five new customers have bought ATR for the first time, thus further strengthening ATR’s regional market leadership position. «The level of sales achieved in less than six months reflects a positive evolution in the market and the ATR is an excellent option to open new routes to reduce operating costs for companies,» says ATR CEO Christian Scherer.

BOEING

Boeing’s 737 MAX 10 a big hit at Paris Air Show 2017

Boeing 737 MAX 10 is a big hit at this week’s Paris Air Show with over a dozen airlines and fleets placing orders for the larger jet.

Boeing 737 Max 10 FBN

The MAX 10 is Boeing’s answer to the Airbus A321NEO. Although the 737 lineup is the best-selling commercial aircraft in history, the A321NEO has recently been more popular than the 737-9 MAX, which is Boeing’s largest narrowbody, single-aisle jet currently on the market.

The MAX 10 can seat about 10 more passengers than the MAX 9, sporting a maximum capacity of 230 seats. To make room for extra seating, Boeing stretched the fuselage 66 inches versus the MAX 9.

“Airlines wanted a larger, better option in the large single-aisle segment with the operating advantages of the 737 MAX family,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Kevin McAllister.

Boeing introduced its latest jet on Monday, and a flood of orders quickly followed. The aerospace giant received commitments to sell a total of 361 MAX 10s, including 147 new orders and 214 conversions from other models. The MAX 10 accounted for more than half of Boeing’s total order book for the show, as the company sold 571 jets worth $74.8 billion.

At Paris Air Show, Boeing Teases the ‘797’

The world’s largest commercial jetmaker offered a glimpse of its upcoming ‘middle-market airplane’, but everybody’s already calling it the 797.

What’s in a name? It turns out, quite a lot. Boeing released an artist’s rendering of its next-generation twin-aisle commercial jetliner at the Paris Air Show this week, giving the world an early look at the planemaker’s “middle-market airplane” – what everybody is justifiably already referring to as the Boeing 797.

Boeing doesn’t launch new commercial jet’s that often, so even though this wasn’t an official launch it’s still being treated as a pretty big deal. The composite 797 would seat between 220 and 270 passengers. It is predicted to enter service in 2025, filling the gap between the Boeing 737 workhorse and advanced 787. Boeing predicts its could sell up to 4,000 and keep it in service for 20 years.

So now we know what it is, what it looks like, and what it’s likely to be called. Which begs another question: What’s up with Boeing’s strange commercial jet naming convention anyway? The story is mildly interesting – so, if you’d like to be mildly entertained, by all means read on.

Everybody knows that the first Boeing commercial jetliner was the 707, introduced in 1958. Why that number? The rather simple reason is that Boeing reserved the 700 block of numbers for its commercial jets (the 300 and 400 blocks were propeller airplanes, 500 jet engines, and 600 rockets and missiles). The first in the series should have been the Boeing 700 but the marketing folks didn’t like the ring of that so they called it the 707.

Boeing then decided to call its next plane the 717, which makes sense except for the fact that the next model wasn’t a commercial jetliner but rather a military tanker. So it was redesignated the KC-135. Next Boeing created the 720, which was really just a slightly modified 707. Then came the 727, which was followed sequentially by the 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777. In the 1990s, Boeing went all the way back to the 717 designation for its single-aisle model based on the MD-95 after it acquired McDonnell-Douglas. Last but not least came the 787 Dreamliner six years ago.

So of course Boeing will name the “middle-market airplane” the 797. What else could they call it? Perhaps the more pressing question is, what in the world will Boeing call the airplane after that?

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Israeli court bans change of seat for religious reasons

El Al Airlines Israel’s national airline will no longer be able to ask women to change seats to accommodate ultra-Orthodox passengers who do not want to sit next to them, a Jerusalem court ruled Wednesday.

Renee Rabinowitz, a retired lawyer and 83-year Holocaust survivor, sued the airline for discrimination after she was asked to change seats on a flight from Newark to Tel Aviv in December 2015 when an ultra-Orthodox Jew refused to sit next to Women, as some religious men avoid situations that can lead to accidental physical contact with women.

El Al’s attorneys argued that the airline tries to accommodate its passengers according to their preferences such as keeping them away from a crying baby or allowing them to feel closer to their families and that airline policies apply to men and women alike, The New York Times reported.

However, the court ruled that asking passengers to give up their seat simply for gender reasons contradicts Israel’s anti-discrimination laws.

«Under no circumstances can a crew member request passengers to give up their assigned seat because another person does not wish to sit next to them for gender reasons,» said Judge of the Jerusalem Magistrates Court Dana Cohen-Lekah. «Politics is a direct violation of the law that prevents discrimination.»

Rabinowitz told the New York Times that she was «excited» by the verdict, in which she received a compensation of 6,500 Shekels ($ 1,800), but that it is not a financial compensation.

«I am excited that the judge has understood the matter. He realized that it is not about money, but that Al change policy, and is what he has been ordered to do», said Rabinowitz after the hearing. A \ W

Norwegian comienza venta ticket para vuelos Argentina-Reino Unido

AW | 2017 06 22 09:28 | AIRLINES ROUTES

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Norwegian starts ticket sales for Argentina

Norwegian is to start selling your low cost flights from Buenos Aires to London

The Norwegian airline set the date for the inaugural trip between Ezeiza and Gatwick airports. «This is the first step for our national and international growth in the country,» said CEO Bjorn Kjos.

The initial tickets will be on sale this same Thursday on the company’s website, at a promotional price that will From 299 pounds (about $ 6,150 in Argentine currency) for the one-way trip and 598 pounds (about $ 12,300) if it includes the return.

The tickets will be sold under the conditions that the company of Norwegian origin offers under the category «LowFare», reason why the passengers will only be able to board the airplane with a suitcase of cabin of not more than ten kilos. The rate does not include the possibility of baggage dispatch, nor choose seat nor receive food on board, among other amenities. Who wants to have one or more of them must pay separately.

Those wishing to travel in the traditional mode with reservation of seat and billing of a bag of up to 20 kilos should opt for the «LowFare +» fare, which will start at 349 pounds (about $ 7,170) for outward flights or 698 pounds (about $ 14,340) with The return included.

For larger budget users, Norwegian will also offer «Premium» fares with larger seats and increased amenities at 699 pounds for a one-way flight or £ 1398 with the return flight included. Those who opt for this category will include the possibility of reserving a seat, dispatch two bags of up to 20 kilos each, raise a third of up to 15 kilos and a better quality food on board.

Although it is a promotional price, the rates offered by Norwegian Airlines for its first trips are significantly cheaper than those offered by the alliance of British Airways and Iberia, until today only operators of the non-stop flights of the Buenos Aires-London route. According to Infobae’s brief survey this morning, the cheapest round-trip fares that both airlines offer between February 14 and 21, 2018 start at 944 pounds (about $ 19,400). That is, at least 36% more expensive than those of its brand new competitor.

The details of the first flights were confirmed this morning by the company’s own CEO, Bjorn Kjos, in the meeting he shared with the Argentine ambassador Carlos Sersale at the official residence that the diplomat has in London.

«This is a great milestone, not only because it is our first route in South America, but also because it is the first step towards our ambitious national and international growth plan in the country,» said Kjos In the joint submission.

At the meeting, the founder of Europe’s third-largest low-cost airline confirmed that the company will initially connect Buenos Aires with London four times a week. The flights will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays by a single Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft will link Ezeiza airport with Gatwick, London’s second airport after Heathrow.

The Buenos Aires-London route is part of the aggressive expansion strategy to other continents that Norwegian began earlier this year with the launch of its low-cost travel to the United States and Asia. At the beginning of next year, Argentina will become the company’s first Latin American destination.

The project also coincides with the opening of the air market that the Argentine Government has encouraged since the inauguration of Mauricio Macri. The decision was punctuated by the judicial investigation involving the President himself for the alleged conflict of interest between the sale of the family business MacAir Jet Avianca, one of the airlines that bid to enter the local market.

Boeing deal values double Airbus at Paris Air Show

With the Paris Air Show 2017 entering the homes stretch, Boeing (BA) has racked up more than twice as much in order value as rival Airbus for the U.S. company’s first win at the showcase event in five years.

Boeing’s orders and expressions of interest for ~370 planes worth as much as $52B routed Airbus, which tallied 229 airliners valued at ~$25B, but the European planemaker dismisses the setback, saying it is focused on meeting delivery targets to make up for production snags rather than seeking new purchasers.

Even with the boost from the MAX 10, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg does not expect order flow to surpass deliveries this year, as demand jumped in past years as high fuel prices encouraged airlines to scramble for more efficient planes.

Boeing envisions the end of large aircraft

Boeing’s current market forecast has been perceived by Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president of marketing Randy Tinseth as saying the company is convinced that the VLA segment would decline so much that it no longer deserved to be a separate category in the company’s portfolio.

«By looking at the 747-8, we see its future as a freighter or VIP plane or Boeing Business Jet,» he said. Referring to the Airbus A380, he said the market was declining so significantly that «we do not think Airbus will deliver the rest of its peddling orders.»

Despite the wide package of proposed improvements announced this week by the European aeronautical manufacturer to improve the A380’s aerodynamic and economic performance, it said: «Putting new winglets in the plane does not make it smaller.» He noted that the upcoming 777X from Boeing Would be the biggest airplane that will succeed in the market.

Boeing has revised its forecasts and has estimated that 41,030 new aircraft will be needed over the next 20 years, valued at $ 6.1 billion. Of this total, 40% would go to Asia, 20% for Europe and North America and the other 20% for the rest of the world.

«Passenger traffic has registered strong growth so far this year and we estimate an annual increase of 4.7% over the next two decades. As for passengers, we have seen traffic growing above the long-term trend. Demand has grown faster than capacity, so load factors have risen and yields have been strong. «

He referred to the airline’s global profits of $ 35 billion in 2016 and the forecast improvement for this year by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to $ 31 billion.

Boeing expects passenger numbers to grow by 6-7%, even taking into account current economic and political setbacks such as currency volatility and terrorism,

Boeing expects to deliver 760-765 aircraft this year, which should give it an advantage over Airbus, he said.

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Airlines welcome plans for Scotland’s new Air Departure Tax

Airlines have given the thumbs up to plans by the Scottish government to replace Air Passenger Duty with a new level of Air Departure Tax

Airlines UK, the industry body that represents UK carriers, said it awaited details of the ADT banding and rates, which are due later this year, “with keen interest”. The new tax bands will apply from April 1, 2018.

Scotland has pledged to cut the tax levied by 50% by the end of the current session of the Scottish Parliament and then eventually abolish the tax altogether.

The industry organisation was responding to the passing of the final stage and approval of the Air Departure Tax Bill in the Scottish Parliament yesterday. A spokesman for Airlines UK said: “From next year, Scotland will have its own tax regime for passengers flying from Scottish airports».

“At a time when competitor nations are busy reducing or abolishing their own versions of the Air Departure Tax – including Ireland, which has seen a surge in new routes and passengers since it took action to make its airports more competitive – it will make little sense for Scotland to put itself at a disadvantage by continuing to levy sky-high taxes on aviation». “The airline sector has been clear that taking action on ADT will make a big difference to businesses and families – and provide a welcome boost to the Scottish tourism industry». “Our members would see Scotland – a key market for them already – as an even more attractive destination to add capacity and put on new routes». “Importantly, this could also be done in a way that is environmentally sustainable – thanks to the huge and continuing investment airlines are making in cleaner, quieter aircraft and the ambitious carbon reduction targets the industry – encompassing airlines, airports, manufacturers and others – has signed up to.”

Scottish finance secretary Derek Mackay said: “Our airports are competing on a world stage to secure new routes and capacity». “Reducing the tax burden helps ensure a more level playing field with many other European airports competing to secure the same airlines and similar routes». “New routes will enhance business connectivity and tourism as well as providing new jobs.”

The bands, rates and exemptions for the replacement tax are not covered in the bill and will be decided as part of the Scottish government’s annual budget process, which will need the approval of a majority of MSPs. A \ W
