India approaches Boeing 737 MAX certification

Aviation authorities start certification process

The aviation authorities of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India have announced that approvals for the return of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to commercial air operations would be completed in the coming days. Indian aviation authorities would have agreed with the improvements made to the aircraft, in addition to the fact that Boeing complied with the country’s particular requirements, which included the installation of a simulator, a person familiar with the matter said.

Among the reasons for the delay in re-certification of the model is due, in part, to the regulator’s desire to evaluate public comments towards the model, the source said. As in other parts of the world, India grounded the vehicle in 2019, after the two fatal accidents that occurred aboard these planes and in which 346 people died. With this authorization, China would be the last most important market that has not yet given its authorization for the 737 MAXs to return to commercial aviation service after more than two and a half years of grounding.

Although it does not allow regular operations, in April 2021, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of India allowed foreign aircraft to enter its airspace, as long as the aircraft have been recertified by the authority of the State that granted their registration. Currently SpiceJet is the only Indian airline that has orders for this vehicle, however, the new company Akasa Air would be interested in acquiring up to 80 units of the fourth generation 737 MAX line.

The airline had been established in June 2015, while it planned to begin commercial operations by 2019. However, the airline faced several delays related to obtaining operating and aircraft licenses. Amplían Codeshare Aeroméxico-Latam

AW | 2021 08 13 17:21 | AIRLINES ALLIANCE

Ampliación código compartido Aeroméxico-Latam

AW-Aeroméxico-Latam_Isologotipe Alliance

Codeshare Aeroméxico-Latam expanded

Aeroméxico-Latam Shared Code Extension

Grupo Aeroméxico and Latam Airlines Group expanded their codeshare agreement, which will allow the expansion of the service network of both companies, initiating the airline code links on the respective flights during this week. This is the second phase of the application of the shared code between both companies, after carrying out codes between Aeroméxico and the subsidiaries Latam Airlines Brasil and Latam Airlines Colombia. The Aeroméxico Group was in 2020 in advanced negotiations to expand its alliances with Latam Airlines Group in South America and with Air France-KLM in Europe, noting that these companies are close allies of Delta Air Lines.

“Latam Airlines is one of the main airline groups in Latin America and one of the largest in the world, Latam Airlines flies to 145 destinations in 26 countries. In passenger transport, it operates in the local markets of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru and operates regional flights within South America”, states the Aeroméxico airline on its website.

The commercial alliance between both parties allows the accumulation and redemption of points for frequent travelers, pre-assignment of seats, checked luggage from origin to destination and access to VIP lounges, among other benefits. Aeroméxico and Latam AIrlines have increased their collaboration in the region since Delta Air Lines announced an investment for 20% of Latam Airlines Group at the end of 2019.

Currently both airlines are in the process of financial reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Law and are currently working on their Reorganization Plans, which could be presented in mid-September 2021.

Alliance prospects

Among the objectives of this collaboration are to create a leading alliance between Mexico and South America through shared codes, VIP rooms; development of enhancement of the service network distribution hubs of both companies and optimizing cross connectivity in their route networks. This alliance would boost profitability and improve the system of both airlines.

Alaska Airlines expansion into Mexico

Incorporates Loreto, Mazatlán and Ixtapa

The American airline Alaska Airlines has announced the expansion of new tourist destinations in Mexico as of December 18, 2021, opening the winter vacation season in the northern hemisphere. The new destinations added are Loreto (LTO), Mazatlán (MZT) and Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (ZIH).

The new Mexican destinations will allow the Seattle (WA) -based airline to expand leisure destinations to Central America, allowing Alaska Airlines to introduce its post-pandemic expansion by adding more routes to the main tourist destinations. The company will continue to offer its services with the best service in the airline. Alaska Airlines Vice President of Network and Alliances Brett Catlin said in a statement: «With a total of seven nonstop destinations from the Bay Area this winter, including options from San Francisco and San Jose, the tropical paradise. «It’s just a few hours away. In addition, we offer nonstop flights from Los Angeles and San Diego to various destinations in Mexico and throughout Latin America».

After the downgrading of Mexico to Category 2 (CAT2) by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in May 2021, Mexican airlines cannot add capacity to the United States, so North American airlines are increasing their frequencies that continue to increase to 70% of market share.
