AW-Icon AW001

KLM lays off 1,500 to 2,000 employees. Gradually phase out the Boeing 747-400

bestpractice_klm_1The deterioration in market demand due to the expansion of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has forced KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to take drastic measures. The Dutch aviation company will reduce its operating capacity by 25% in March and between 30% -40% between April to June 2020. This reduction in capacity has a great impact on employees where the airline will reduce between 1,500 and 2, .000 that have become redundant. For 2Q2020, the airline launches temporary technical unemployment for other staff, a 30% reduction. The company will suspend all future investments, between € 300 and € 400 million, and take a series of cost reduction measures.

As in a major global crisis, airlines are forced to carry out structural and operational combinations, where they do not exempt the aircraft fleet. KLM will phase out its Boeing 747s, deprogramming its «Queen of the Skies» fleet. Currently, the Dutch company will land six planes scheduled to be retired until 2Q2021. AW-Icon AW002

KLM zal haar Boeing 747’s stopzetten en haar ,,Queen of the Skies» vloot deprogrammeren. AW-Icon AW002

Air Canada corta orden Boeing 737 MAX

AW-Icon AW001

AW-700002333Air Canada cuts Boeing 737 MAX order

Air Canada reduces orders for the Boeing 737-9 MAX line

Air Canada has reduced its order for Boeing 737 MAX. The Canadian operator had requested a total of 61 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, which has cut its order to 26 aircraft pending delivery.

Originally Air Canada in 2013 placed an order for 61 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Of these, only 24 units have been delivered. The carrier will now only take another 26 Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft while retaining options for 18 and rights for an additional 30 aircraft. The reduction in aircraft corresponds to variant MAX 9. Air Canada has planned the fleet to better meet anticipated needs. The airline also provided the following statement: «Air Canada is fully committed to the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Prior to the grounding of the aircraft in March 2019, we were one of the largest operators of the 737 MAX and are actively preparing to return this aircraft to service after regulatory and safety approvals».

Air Canada retains its entire Boeing 737 MAX order but has suffered from variations in its models, so having a few different variant aircraft is unwarranted and inefficient when it comes to maintenance and crew costs. Canceling 24 new aircraft is something no airline wants to do, but removing eleven larger MAX 9 variant units means Air Canada can reduce some unnecessary capacity, especially amid the current downturn in market demand.  AW-Icon AW002

Ministry of Transportation and airlines meet to maximize health checks by the epidemic

The Ministry of Transportation of Argentina will meet today 11/03 with all international airlines operating in Argentina to analyze the steps to follow in relation to the spread of the coronavirus in the country. From the Transport portfolio, they observe with great concern the situation of the epidemic. The active measures and in order to control each of the places of entry are made by coordinating with the different airlines that operate in Argentina and also working on seaports, which are the entry of overseas passengers.

Aeronavegantes

The Argentine Airnavigators Association (AAA) has recently recommended Passenger Cabin Crew (TCP) to perform the 14-day isolation. Following the recent measures of the Government of Argentina that any person entering the country from high-risk areas must carry out mandatory quarantine in their respective homes.

The expansion of the coronavirus (COVID-19) globally and the new recommendations of the Ministry of Health of Argentina could generate a headache for airlines based in Argentina. The Airnavigators Guild told its affiliates that they work on flights to the affected areas that can be folded to the two-week isolation provision. The Argentine Airnavigators Association led by Juan Pablo Brey recommended today in an internal statement to its union base: «Crew members returning from the contagion zone (Madrid and Rome) may voluntarily perform the 14-day isolation suggested by the Decree of the National Executive Power Any crew that for justifiable reasons attributable to the Coronavirus considers it pertinent not to make flights to the areas identified as sources of contagion, is endorsed by this union. Any measure is changing dynamically, while the national authorities make decisions. The base returns will be coordinated by the operational area of the company».

From the union, they also made available a form for all those who want to apply for a 14-day license for flights returning to the country from areas declared at risk. Base returns will be coordinated by the company’s operational area. The Committee of Crisis of the company Aerolíneas Argentinas/Austral Líneas Aéreas is continually meeting due to the epidemic and in constant contact with our Airnavigators Guild Secretariat since Aerolíneas have reported that they had not yet come into contact with the new measures of the Airnavigatirs Association.

Health Protocol

Through a resolution of the Ministry of Transportation, the National Civil Aviation Administrator (ANAC) of Argentina will provide that all national and international airlines arriving in Argentina from abroad comply with the Ministry of Health protocol to treat suspected cases of coronavirus.

The requirements that must be followed by mandatory airlines operating on Argentine soil are several. The first indicates that all passengers and crew must fill out the form, which will be provided by the health portfolio, «Traveler’s Health Statement». The Ministry requested that «until such stock is available» airlines collaborate to «print the forms when necessary, during the first days of the start of this operation».

The second point states: “The obligation of all airlines to inform the airport authorities about the presence of any possible suspicious cases is reiterated before arriving at the airport. The detection may be produced by a notice from the passenger or a member of the crew or by the observation of the personnel on board or of another passenger”.

The third point is that in the presence of a suspicious case, the airline “must include the novelty in the sanitary part of the General Declaration of Aircraft and warn such incident to the Air Traffic Services (Control Tower), prior to its arrival».

The fourth point refers to what are the indications to consider a person suspected of being infected with COVID-19. The first is if it shows symptoms of fever and cough, fever and sore throat or respiratory distress. And then it includes every subject that comes or has been in the last 14 days in China, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Iran, France, Germany or Spain. Also to those who would have had close contact with a case of coronavirus or had worked or treated patients in a health center with patients suspected or confirmed to be infected.

The fifth point: “In the case of detection of a suspicious case, the current protocol will be executed by placing the aircraft in Post 18 (or in which, where appropriate, define the authority of the Airport) for the purpose of attending medical assistance from the airport and Border Health personnel for the evaluation of the reported case”. There are also indications for a late complaint of someone infected. What the crew must do, with the plane already located in the sleeve, is to postpone the departure of the passage of the aircraft and immediately communicate to the authorities to proceed with the protocol, which involves the filling of health declaration forms of the traveler of the entire ticket and crew with identification of the suspect case; and the report in the General Declaration of the Aircraft by the airline.

The seventh and last point: “In the case of absence of self-report of any passenger or crew and that the crew has not registered or observed any suspicious case and thus registers in the sanitary part of the General Declaration of Aircraft, the personnel of the airline must collect the Affidavits and deliver them to Border Health personnel after the opening of doors in the sleeve or at the time of completing the procedure of the Free Talk certificate”.AW-Icon AW002

Negociación Gobierno-JetSmart AR

AW-7001328AW | 2020 03 10 20:33 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

AW-Icon AW001

AW-Jetsmartwegian (2)Government-JetSmart AR negotiation

avion-jetsmartThe Government of Argentina and JetSmart Argentina continue negotiations regarding Norwegian Air Argentina

The Argentine Ministry of Transportation is bringing proposals to JetSmart Airlines Argentina after meeting to arrive at a short-term solution for JetSmart. The low cost company is having difficulty operating at the Aeroparque after acquiring Norwegian Air Argentina, after ANAC Argentina signals operational inconsistencies for Norwegian Air Argentina in the absence of technical approvals for JetSmart’s A320CEO fleet to operate at Jorge Newbery Airport.

The Minister of Transportation, Mario Meoni, has pointed out the possibility in the short term to find a solution to the problem raised from the difficulties that the low cost company JetSmart Airlines Argentina has to operate in Aeroparque, after acquiring the company Norwegian Argentina . When the low cost airline JetSmart bought Norwegian Argentina in December 2019, it continued to operate at the Jorge Newbery Airport with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft belonging to the Norwegian company, until these aircraft were gradually returning to Europe and were replaced by the Airbus A320CEO of the JetSmart company, a controversy arose due to procedures that JetSmart would not have carried out, so the company had to extend the leasing (rental) of Norwegian aircraft to continue covering the routes that Norwegian Air Argentina flew.

The Government-JetSmart meeting will try to unlock the situation to find alternatives and solutions in the short term. “We are constantly meeting with the company looking for alternatives and solutions, we are likely to find some short-term solution, we are working together with ANAC, with Argentine Airlines, with JetSmart. A dialogue table to see how we find intermediate solutions that may allow it to operate, but we still do not have a concrete definition of what the final determination is going to be, because there is a legal issue, which had not completed reports in the ANAC. And, beyond JetSmart’s willingness to operate at Aeroparque, all the necessary documentation had not been constituted. The previous management had only opened a file, but that was not completed, therefore, there was a lot of legal fragility to operate in Aeroparque and we are checking to see if it is possible to correct or not that legal weakness they have”, said the Minister of Transportation Mario Meoni.

Tourist increase

The first television and digital campaign of the Solomon Islands co-financed by Tourism Solomons and Solomon Airlines in 2019, has also caused an increase in the arrival of Australian visitors. Total Australian arrivals for the 12-month period increased by 7.9% to reach 11,011, representing 38% of the 28,930 international travelers (an increase of 3.8%) recorded upon entering the Solomon Islands in 2018.

«With the interest that our destination increases and infrastructure improves, this new aircraft is symbolic, makes economic sense and is a step in the right direction as we continue to work together to strengthen our national airline and provide quality air access to the Solomon Islands», said Mr. Gebers.

Restructuring routes

This month, Solomon Airlines also announced a new national schedule designed to improve the domestic operations of Solomon Airlines to pave the way for Munda’s growth as a second hub that connects international flights with domestic services to destinations in the Western Province. Under its new domestic schedule, the airline will dedicate a Dash 8-100 aircraft to serve exclusively Munda and Gizo, recognized as one of the most desirable underwater diving regions in the world. A Twin Otter aircraft will also have a permanent base at the Munda airport. «We are taking into account the needs of the Solomon Islands community now and in the future. It is important that we continue to focus on our purpose, working together to develop sustainable national tourism for the benefit of future generations, and now to provide safe and reliable inter-island air services so that Solomon islanders and our visitors can easily travel between our islands and provinces», said the CEO of Solomon Airlines. MAP dificultades mercado

AW-Icon AW001

mapMAP market difficulties

cortina-bf-rightMAP continues to face fleet and operations challenges

After the purchase by VoePass, MAP Linhas Aéreas has more than half of the fleet stopped due to irregularities and continues to face challenges that hinder its air network and its plans to expand its operations in the north of the country. A large number of planes stopped is one of these problems.

In December 2019 the agents representing the region of the Amazon basin declared that the company had left the region after the purchase by Passaredo. At that time, the company had promised to restore its network in the north, even stating that everything would be normalized on March 20, 2020. Within twelve days, nothing seems to promise a normalization of services in the region.

MAP Linhas Aéreas goes through its seventh anniversaries on March 4, 2020. Although they establish to restore their service network, claims for delays and cancellations continue. The ANAC Brasil data details a very significant percentage of cancellations or delays of more than 30 minutes.

The ATR 47/72 fleet of MAP Linhas Aéreas represents more than half on land due to irregularities related to mandatory maintenance inspections. The company’s fleet consists of six ATR, ATR 42 (3) and ATR 72 (3) turboprop aircraft. Of the ATR 42-500 aircraft fleet, the registered PT-MFE is only operational. The other two with PR-MPN and PR-MPO records cannot fly according to ANAC records. The PR-MPN registered aircraft was involved in the forced landing in July 2019 in Amazonas; PR-MPO has the same expired certificate, due to the lack of completion of IAM (Annual Maintenance Inspection). The IAM represents controls on aircraft and onboard documentation, whose objective is to assess whether the aircraft has been maintained in airworthiness conditions.

As for the situation of the fleet of the three ATR 72-600, they find the registration number PR-MPZ and PR-MPY currently expired. In the case of PR-MPY, the plane would be under maintenance in the Passaredo hangars in Ribeirão Preto (Sao Paulo) to regularize the situation. As for the PR-MPW registry, located in Ribeirão Preto, it is making new flights for VoePass to Congonhas and to the interior of the country. To alleviate the MAP situation, Passaredo has provided an ATR 72, with PR-PDP registration that would operate the routes in conjunction with the ATR 42 PT-MFE in the Amazon Region.

Additional ATR

Two new ATR 72-600s recently arrived for the VoePass fleet belonging to the former Jet Airways airline. The aircraft correspond to the M-ABMB license plates located in Ribeirão Preto in the process of painting and finishing and the M-ABMC that is in Confins for the completion of administrative procedures. Aircraft will be affected by operations in southeastern Brazil, between Ribeirão Preto and Sao Paulo. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW002

Pilotos SWA negociación colectiva

Image result for Southwest Airlines pilotsAW | 2020 03 09 14:21 | AIRLINES

Southwest Airlines pilots make a collective agreement

AW-Southwest_70056The Southwest Airlines Pilot Association (SWAPA) has announced the first round of direct negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement with Southwest Airlines (SWA), the company said. The pilots’ existing contract officially becomes modifiable on August 31, 2020, but allows an initial six-month phase of negotiations for a new contract, which the union and the airline agreed to exercise.

The current contract was ratified by SWAPA membership overwhelmingly in November 2016, after four years of negotiations that included ten months of federal mediated talks. Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA) is a nonprofit employee organization and the only bargaining unit for the more than 9,900 pilots of Southwest Airlines.

Denver Expansion

Southwest Airlines is looking for space for a major expansion of its operations at the Denver International Airport (DIA). He currently has 24 doors (slots) in DIA Contest C, but has requested Denver permits for 16 additional doors. If approved, Southwest would control 40 doors at Denver Airport. «This will support our long-term growth plans», Southwest spokesman Dan Landson said.

The new doors, which are built as part of a US$ 1.5 billion expansion project at the airport, are expected to be operational in 2022. The request comes immediately after the Denver government unanimously approved United’s request. Airlines of a 24-door lease expansion last month. If Southwest leases are approved, it would leave only 10 doors unopened at the airport. Frontier Airlines, the other airline with major central operations in Denver, could be a suitor for the remaining doors. Southwest began operating at DIA in 2006 with only 13 daily departures; the airline now has 250 daily departures and serves 69 destinations from Denver.

AW-7084434Epidemic impact

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly said the declining demand for air travel «feels similar to September 11. September 11 was not an economic problem for travel. It was more scary, frankly, and I think that’s really what manifested this time”.

Southwest Airlines updates the Boeing 737 aircraft cleaning program, as a result of concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak. Launched on March 4, 2020, Southwest’s improved cleaning procedures include the use of an EPA-approved hospital-grade disinfectant used by airline technicians to disinfect the passenger cabin, restrooms and flight deck.

The entire Southwest aircraft fleet also has HEPA (high-efficiency particles air) filter systems, similar to those used in hospitals, which remove airborne particles onboard each aircraft. The airline’s cleaning program was designed to protect customers and employees with the support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Southwest officials said the program includes more than six business hours of cleaning every night for the carrier’s fleet of aircraft. The airline also provided detailed information on how the cleaning process works on the company’s blog.

In response to ongoing questions about the coronavirus, Airlines for America (A4A) launched a new website to serve as a resource for air travelers, government agencies, Congress and the general public. While the travel industry remains optimistic, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said last week that airlines could lose up to US$ 113 billion in revenue as a result of the current coronavirus outbreak.

AW-Icon AW001

Deadlines 09/03 for proposals to recover Jet Airways

Jet-Airways-Logo-TaglineThe last date for interested companies to submit a resolution plan is with a deadline on March 9, 2020. The 270-day deadline prescribed in the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) will end in mid-March. Once the plan is received, the lenders will approach NCLT with the offer before March 15. The Far East Development Fund, backed by the Government of the Russian Federation, in association with Enso Group, has presented its expression of interest to acquire a stake in Jet Airways in February 2020. Prudent ARC and Synergy Group are also showing interest.

Still, the end of Jet Airways can find the end. The airline was once a halo that has been struggling to return to the air for almost a year and the indication has arrived just before the deadline for its suitors to submit resolution plans.

The signal came from Grant Thornton India CEO Vishesh Chandiok, who went to Twitter on March 7, 2020, to share his views on what has led the airline to bankruptcy. His opinions are significant since the resolution professional who oversees the insolvency process, Ashish Chhawchharia, is a Deputy of Grant Thornton India. This is what Chandiok said: «I’m sorry to report, but I’m afraid we are very close to the end of the road for JetAirways: The proverbial egg or chicken is what killed the airline. My apologies to all the employees in particular that we couldn’t do it. better for you». AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW002
