AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Flybondi initiates sales exceeding tickets

Imagen relacionadaThe low-cost airline of Argentina Flybondi has impacted the market with the opening of the sale of air tickets

Flybondi has sold 10,000 air tickets in the first 24 hours, evidencing the impact that the opening of airlines in Argentina is having. It is crucial for the new airline to determine if it will be able to cover the very high demand obtained and with the availability of aircraft.

The debut of Flybondi demonstrates the great demand that exists in the country for cheap flights. Flybondi and the airlines that are preparing to follow in the next months are willing to offer lower prices than those of land transport. The airline will start with 16 domestic routes. Air tickets between Buenos Aires (El Palomar) and Córdoba, the second largest city in Argentina, started on Thursday at AR $ 697 pesos (US $ 37), almost 30% cheaper than other airlines and airlines. bus, which reaches AR $ 900 pesos (US $ 47). «Our goal is to offer tickets for AR $ 380 pesos (US $ 20)», says Flybondi CEO Julián Cook. They can not do so because in Argentina there is a minimum rate that all airlines must respect, imposed years ago to protect the state airline Aerolíneas Argentinas / Austral Líneas Aéreas. The government maintains that minimum price, non-existent in other countries, but has stopped updating it, and its value decreases at the rate of inflation, which in 2017 was almost 25%. «We maintain that we have to get it out (the minimum rate)», says Julian Cook, who anticipates that they will submit an order with special prices that they have prepared with a legal study. «What we are doing today is giving away the airport tax, that is within the law», he explains when talking about the offers with which they have gone on sale.

«The pigeons do not go to their Palomar»

On Thursday, the same day the company began commercialization, the Argentine Justice ordered the suspension of operations at El Palomar Airport, on the northern outskirts of Buenos Aires, until an environmental impact study was evaluated.

Flybondi plans its first flight from that alternative airport on February 9, 2018, is convinced that the study will be approved on time and has not stopped the sale. The judicial question was not enough to stop Argentine fever due to the arrival of low cost. Flybondi does not obtain the authorization to operate in El Palomar, it must do so from Aeroparque, in Buenos Aires, with a cost up to 50% higher. If you get a green light, a second obstacle awaits you. A group of neighbors denounced that the works planned at the airport to build hangars and expand their capacity violate the historical memory. In this airport, for military use, a clandestine detention center operated during the dictatorship (1976-1983) and the space is now a Memory Site, as foreseen by Argentine legislation. Judge Martina Forns has ordered the provisional suspension of the works until the Secretary of Human Rights and the federal judges to whom she has drafted trades are pronounced.

Resultado de imagen para Flybondi pngThe obstacles do not discourage the low cost, convinced that they will win the war in the long term. Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world in surface and the only one of this group that does not have low cost airlines. The current number of passengers on domestic flights, 11 million, is lower than that of neighboring countries with less population and territory: 13 million in Peru, 15 in Chile and 25 in Colombia, according to Hugo Díaz, commercial manager of Avianca Argentina. Therefore, new players believe that there is room to double the Argentine market in two or three years. A \ W

Dificultades flota SSJ-100 de Interjet

AW | 2018 01 13 22:45 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Interjet maintenance difficulties SSJ-100

Some Interjet SSJ-100 aircraft are delayed in hangars due to lack of a Sukhoi Maintenance Center in America

The Mexican airline Interjet owns four Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 aircraft in its hangars in Mexico City and Toluca of a fleet of 22 units because they have not flown for at least five months due to delays in engine maintenance.

20% of Interjet’s fleet of Sukhoi SSJ-100 aircraft is buried for the reason that the airline has delayed the overhaul of the engines that drive the Russian regional aircraft. If an agreement for the maintenance of the aircraft fails, they could be cannibalized to supply spare parts for the Interjet Sukhoi fleet.

Interjet could face difficulties if it does not obtain an agreement for the maintenance of Sukhoi Super Jet SSJ-100 aircraft fleet. Carlos Ozores, air transport specialist at ICF, a consulting and technology services firm based in Virginia, comments: «There are doubts about the long-term viability of the business, the only way for an airline to generate cash flow is by flying».

Interjet admitted that it has planes on the ground, but said it is financially in good shape. The situation dates back to the decision made by General Manager José Luis Garza half a decade ago when he agreed to buy the little known and proven Sukhoi Superjets, developed jointly by the Italian group Leonardo SpA and the Russian manufacturer Sukhoi. The engines are manufactured by the French Safran SA and a partner of Russia.

Sukhoi does not have maintenance centers in America. Airbus SE, provides maintenance service to the Interjet fleet. That’s important because aircraft need regular and meticulous maintenance.

Closely observing costs is so crucial for a low-cost airline. For low-cost airlines that usually means limiting fleets to a single type of aircraft to save on maintenance costs. But the 22 Interjet Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft coexist with their Airbus A320 (50) and Airbus A321 (6).

«The most important distinguishing feature of a low-cost carrier is an airline that can keep costs down by any means», says Triant Flouris, flight instructor for the International Air Transport Association and academic at the Hellenic American University in Greece.

Sukhoi defying the obstacles

A year ago Garza’s decision to bet on the Sukhoi Superjet took a different course. In December 2016, during the peak travel season, the Russian aeronautical authority warned of a defect in a part that helps stabilize aircraft. After Interjet inspected its own aircraft, it had to suspend the operations of half of the Sukhoi SSJ-100 fleet. Although the eleven aircraft resumed operations the following month, the damage was already done. Some consumers unsuccessfully launched a social media campaign to pressure the Federal Consumer Procurator’s Office to stop Interjet from flying the planes again.

Interjet-SSJ100-delivery-courtesy-Superjet.jpg

The purchase of the Sukhoi Superjet in 2012 was the best option for Interjet, given the temperatures, altitudes and routes they had to cover, according to CEO Garza. It was a bold bet to incorporate a Russian-made aircraft.

The single aisle aircraft sold for about half the price of comparable aircraft from Brazil’s Embraer or Canada’s Bombardier Inc. During a promotional flight in May 2012, only three months before Interjet exercised the option to buy more aircraft, one of the first Sukhoi Superjet crashed into a mountain in Indonesia, killing the 45 people on board. Indonesian researchers said that the most likely cause was human error.

Today, Interjet is Sukhoi’s second largest customer, behind only Aeroflot Russian Airlines. The president of the Interjet board of directors, Miguel Aleman Velasco, said at an event in October 2017 that the company is considering expanding its Russian-made fleet with the purchase of Sukhoi’s twin-engine MS-21 when it goes on sale in 2019.

Financial challenges

Interjet has to overcome some financial problems, which have increased maintenance costs. «Aircraft leasing firms have raised collateral deposits for the airline, and the lessors are likely to be closely watching their operations», reports Bloomberg Intelligence analyst George Ferguson. Interjet has a fleet of 78 aircraft of which 30 are owned and 48 are under rental regime.

An injection of $ 3,200 million pesos contributed by the German family last year helped the company pay most of its short-term liabilities. The company’s debt of approximately $ 12,400 million pesos is made up of 800 million pesos in Cebures and bank loans in dollars with an average maturity of four years, according to its Finance Director, Raúl López. «We paid the short-term debt because that’s what the analysts were worried about», says Garza.

The company tried to sell a shareholding stake last year to foreign airlines such as American Airlines Group Inc. or United Continental Holdings Inc., Alemán Velasco told Bloomberg in an interview at the end of 2016, but no agreement has been forthcoming. Interjet is considering selling a shareholding and going public on the stock market by the end of the year or by 2019. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Lasa Líneas Aéreas start ops March 2018

Lasa Líneas Aéreas advances the start of operations by the end of March 2018

It will start operating at the end of March 2018 and from the beginning it will have promotional tickets. LASA Líneas Aéreas will carry out transversal routes because they maintain that Argentina has a need that has not yet been met.

The official presentation of LASA in Mar del Plata in a ceremony held at the NH Gran Hotel Provincial, was presented to the Lasa Group, which will start operating at Astor Piazolla International Airport from the end of March 2018 and will link the city with localities from the south of the country and from Chile. The new routes, indicated the businessmen, will facilitate the connection to those passengers who previously had to start flights from Aeroparque, Buenos Aires.

Routes of LASA Líneas Aéreas

Lasa arrived to do the transversal routes needed by the Argentine Republic. Four or five hours were lost since there was no offer to travel to the south of the country without first having to travel to Buenos Aires.

The flight schedule of Lasa Líneas Aéreas from its base in Neuquén will be to Mar del Plata, Bahía Blanca and Bariloche with two daily frequencies and one to Santa Rosa. The trips to Chile, meanwhile, will offer a daily frequency to Temuco and Puerto Montt. The Neuquén airline also plans to fly to Trelew, Comodoro Rivadavia, Río Gallegos, Rio Grande, Ushuaia and Calafate.

While the company is not part of the so-called low-cost, said that there will be promotional seats that will allow, for example, access to a ticket to Bahia Blaca for AR$ 970 or Santa Rosa to AR$ 1200 or AR$ 1500, approximately. A \ W

Liberalización tarifas en China

Baiyun_airport_planes.jpg

AW | 2018 01 13 21:07 | AIRLINES MARKET

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Liberalization rates in China

Imagen relacionadaThe Chinese Government wishes to have a greater preponderance in the commercial aviation market

The new rules will make it possible to regularize rates, make routes more profitable and allow diversification. China’s government expects fewer airlines to apply for state subsidies.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced last week new pricing rules for domestic flights. This new regulation will allow Chinese airlines to decide their own prices on domestic routes, that is, if the same route is operated by at least five different airlines. Investors hope that this will help increase profitability among Chinese airlines, which have so far faced strict government control of tariffs.

The move follows the Chinese government’s promise to become a more active player in Chinese aviation, hoping to improve the quality and efficiency in the country’s aviation industry.

According to CAAC, updated regulations should apply to at least 306 routes, where five or more airlines currently operate flights. In other words, a large majority of the national flight routes operated from Chinese first and second tier cities will now enjoy tariff liberalization.

Chinese airlines and their investors celebrate the new rules, as they open the playing field for the prices of high fares on high-demand routes, such as flights between China’s top-tier cities. With airports in China’s top tier cities becoming increasingly congested, tariff liberalization for such routes is particularly welcome as airlines find it difficult to launch more flights between, say, Beijing and Shanghai, because Airports already exceed capacity.

As the measure is expected to increase airline profits, CAAC can also indirectly help Chinese airlines to rely less on government subsidies for their results, which could be critical in the event that local government subsidies to airlines begin to run out in China. With a greater share of airline profits coming from actual business activities instead of government gifts, Chinese airlines will also be less exposed to the growing problem of growing local government debt.

The Chinese government expects the measure to improve the quality and efficiency of Chinese airlines, it is not clear to what extent the new rules will succeed in achieving these objectives. Currently, local government subsidies are largely responsible for Chinese airlines operating what would otherwise be unprofitable routes, mainly to and from lower-tier cities throughout China. In addition, the new rules will help improve the quality of service among Chinese airlines. With greater profitability, it would make sense that some of the airline’s windfalls would be reinvested in initiatives that would improve customer service and comfort in the Chinese aviation industry. Currently, Hainan Airlines is the only Chinese airline with a five-star Skytrax rating, with the majority of Chinese airlines ranking notoriously bad in the customer ranking.

The new regulations will tend to improve overall efficiency and the quality of service would improve the timeliness of Chinese airlines. In the latest report of punctuality of the aviation analyst OAG, the main beneficiaries of the new rules, the state carriers Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines were in third place among the mega operators worldwide.

Chinese airlines have welcomed the new regulations that will allow greater liberalization in the Chinese aviation industry, the most recent changes will aim to increase the benefits of Chinese state airlines but that should be up to the quality of service borrowed. A \ W

Explosión en Aeropuerto de Newark

AW | 2018 01 13 19:55 | AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Explosion at Newark Airport

The Newark airport was evacuated after an explosion below the terminal in New York

The sections of the Newark Liberty International Airport were evacuated and closed to the public after an explosion occurred in the underground part of Terminal C, evacuating people from the airport.

The airport lights went out and the baggage carousels closed immediately after the fire, while Twitter users reported «flooding of people trying to cross security» when they re-entered the terminal after being evacuated.

The cause of the explosion was when there was a fire of an electrical transformer under the airport building. The flames arose from inside a manhole operated by the PSE & G electricity company, based in New Jersey. The power has been cut at Terminal C and the airport is now using a backup generator.

No one was injured in the fire, which occurred around 11:00 hs (local time) (16.00 GMT). The fire department of Newark had extinguished the flames in an hour.

The fire occurred on the same day that tens of thousands of buildings were without electricity in New Jersey, where the Newark airport is located. It is not clear if the transformer fire is related to these interruptions.

Terminal C has now been reopened, but the incident has caused «chaos» inside the airport. Huge queues run through the building as passengers struggle to make their flights in the middle of the interruption.

Newark Airport said: «Passengers are being processed through security checkpoints but with significant delays, baggage is being processed but with early delays for baggage entry.»

Flights continue to take off, but passengers are advised to verify what is happening with their operator and to grant additional time in case of delays. A \ W

MH370 Investigación en el Séptimo Arco

maxresdefault.jpg

AW | 2018 01 12 18:21 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

MH370 Research in the Seventh Arc

Resultado de imagen para MH370 logoThere is a particularly tempting reason why the remnants of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 can be found within the proposed new search area 35 degrees south in the southern Indian Ocean

It is the lack of any aircraft residue found on the west coast of Australia. In addition to a small towel in the Malaysia Airlines package found on a WA beach in 2015  which may or may not have come from MH370 every piece of debris known to come from the missing plane appeared on the east coast of Africa or near there. islands.

This is significant, given that Australian researchers believe that there are five possible autopilot control modes in which the aircraft could have been at the time it ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean.

Calculations based on four of those adjustments point to a collision site farther south 36º-39º degrees south or farther north 33º-34º degrees south, where ocean currents in the days after the plane takes off They ran to the east, and are expected to wash at least some remains towards Australia.

A source close to the investigation says that only one of the five settings of the autopilot constant magnetic heading (CMH) would lead to an impact site in 35S, where the ocean current at that time was running in the opposite direction, towards Africa .

However, other evidence in the weeks and months after the plane disappeared, that is, the satellite «pings» collected from the plane by the British satellite Inmarsat, led the Australian-led search team to focus on an area of 120,000 kilometers. squares around 36 degrees. or further south, a search that ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Only now, from the examination of several debris and studies of oceanic drift patterns, the probable shipwreck site moved northward to an area of about 35 degrees south, on the imaginary line known as the «seventh arc», which shows Possible locations of the plane at the time of the seventh «ping».

The Malaysian government confirmed this week that it had signed an agreement to pay US marine exploration firm Ocean Infinity between US $ 20 million and US $ 70 million if it finds the missing aircraft within 90 days of starting a new search. Your Seabed Builder search engine is already heading to the new search area and will start touring the ocean floor next week. Ocean Infinity is confident of finding the plane if it is indeed within the search area. The explorer has a capacity to cover 25,000 square kilometers within the first three or four weeks of the search.

Dr. David Griffin, an Australian oceanographer at CSIRO, led the drift analysis that last year helped reduce the search area to an area no larger than 25,000 square kilometers, where Ocean Infinity will focus its search. «The oceanographic reason why 35 [south degrees] is more likely to say 34º, or 33º, or 32º, is that in all those latitudes the current is going east», said Dr. Griffin.

Debris on East coast of Africa

The configuration of the autopilot and the discovery of debris in Africa including a flaperon that was confirmed to be from flight MH370 are not the only evidence that supports the theory that the missing plane is located in the proposed new search area, to the north of the area already searched.

The French satellite images that were first seen in March 2014, about a week after the plane disappeared, showed white objects in this same area, at 35º south latitude. The French photos were of poor quality, so it is almost impossible to see what the objects were. It was then that the objects were discarded as of minor importance. Other photos had shown similar spots in other parts of the southern Indian Ocean, many of which were later discarded as shipping containers, general ocean litter or even dolphin pods.

But as other evidence began to point northward at the results of the CSIRO drift survey and the discovery of more remains related to the lost plane, the researchers suddenly recalled the satellite images. They asked the French for better copies. And only then did they realize that the photos were more significant than previously thought. «When someone looks at you, you think, if they are not airplane pieces, what are they? Because for many of those other objects you can find an explanation, but for these you can not», said Dr. Griffin.

The drift analysis included retrospective calculations to measure where the objects might have been in the hours after the disappearance of MH370. Indeed, it was around 35ºS, the new area where Ocean Infinity is preparing to search. When Ocean Infinity arrives at its destination next week, it will not be the first time that deep-sea vessels have searched along the seventh arc at 35S.

In the weeks after the disappearance of the MH370, the searchers traversed the ocean floor along the same path from approximately 32º to 39º south latitude, and found nothing. But Dr. Griffin says the search was very narrow, barely 20 kilometers on each side of the arch.

The new search will scan a wider area. Although the evidence that includes the plane’s flaperon, which was found in Tanzania, supports the theory that the plane went through a rapid descent once it ran out of fuel and landed near the «seventh arc».

The examination of the flaperon indicates that it retracted at the time of impact, discrediting the theory that the pilot was still in control and trying to glide the aircraft as far as possible before it crashed.

Evidence in a report from the Australian Transportation Security Office (ASTB) in late 2016 evaluating satellite communications from the plane, known as Doppler Shift Burst Frequency Offset, is also consistent with a rapid decline and the wreck site is closer to the seventh arc.

The new search will begin next week. To qualify for your multi-million dollar payday, Ocean Infinity must find the waste field or flight recorders within 90 days. And even if the plane is found, there may never be a satisfactory explanation of why MH370 disappeared.

Aviation specialist Trevor Jensen expressed the need to observe how accurate it will be to find the plane, since «the flight recorders, the voice recorders, would now be so damaged». A \ W

Sanciones de Irán y negocios con Boeing

AW | 2018 01 12 17:15 | AIRLINES MARKET

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Iran sanctions and business with Boeing

The Islamic Republic of Iran could receive a blockade for future sales by US companies

Resultado de imagen para Iran Air pngIran is accused of using commercial aircraft to facilitate arms trafficking. The Boeing constructor keeps waiting in the bid with Airbus to compete with the Persian market. The military technology competitor Lockheed Martin chooses not to deal with the Republic of Iran.

The Trump administration will decide whether or not to certify Iranian compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement. The result has the potential to ruin a pair of billionaire deals with Iran Air and Iran Aseman Airlines for the purchase of 110 aircraft that, according to Boeing, would support up to 118,000 jobs in the United States.

The eye of criticism

Resultado de imagen para Iran Air pngCritics say Iran continues to use commercial jets to facilitate the illicit arms trade, a behavior that won sanctions by the Iranian regime in 2011.

Boeing says that the company follows the leadership of the US government with respect to business with Iran, that does not mean that Boeing withdraws from the legislative process in Congress when prospective clients are examined by lawmakers. The reports on lobbying activities submitted by Boeing (through Open Secrets) indicate that the company paid the lobbyists for activity on at least two recent bills involving Iran: S.722 Counter Iran’s destabilizing activities law of 2017 and HR 5711, the Non-Financing Act of the United States for Iran. The last bill was approved by the Chamber in 2016, but it went no further. After working with the House, the Senate Bill was incorporated into the law signed by President Trump in August of 2017, Against the Law of Adversaries through Sanctions of the United States, which included actions against North Korea and Russia. , as well as against Iran. Another US aerospace firm, Lockheed Martin, has a similar public position, but has come to the opposite conclusion of Boeing. Lockheed issued a very short statement in June 2016: «In accordance with US government policy, Lockheed Martin is not looking for business opportunities in Iran». The Obama administration’s decisions to reinstate Iran Air’s eligibility to do business with US companies and to license Boeing and Airbus Europe for agreements with Iran did not change Lockheed’s current policy.

In May 2017, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told Congress that licenses for the sale of the plane to Iran were being reviewed, but no decision has been made since then. The Treasury Department did not respond to a request for an update on the review process.

The Boeing-Trump relationship

The relationship between President Donald Trump and Boeing has experienced some turbulence. In the Donald Trump campaign, Boeing was a corporate sponsor. Later, Donald Trump called Boeing on Twitter for the high costs of renewing Air Force One by the company, which threatened its cancellation. But a turn took over the deal and softened things. Then, less than a month after taking office, the President crossed again with CEO Muilenburg when he visited the Boeing plant in South Carolina to discuss jobs. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is produced at the plant, but this past summer, Boeing announced layoffs took place due to sales slower than expected. A \ W
