Embraer lanza cuatro nuevos diseños aviones sostenibles

Embraer_Isologotype_002

Embraer launches sustainable aircraft

Embraer launches four new sustainable aircraft designs

On Monday 08/11, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer S.A. has formally announced the launch of a new sustainable aircraft concept. While the air giants Airbus and Boeing often get the bulk of the press, regional jet specialist Embraer is also proving strong in commercial aviation. On Monday 08/11, the Senior Vice President of Engineering, Technological Development and Corporate Strategy of the Brazilian manufacturer, Luis Carlos Affonso, announced at the company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, in the State of São Paulo (SP) , introducing the audience to four new aircraft concepts that Embraer will develop in the coming decades.

The new range of aircraft is projected to be realized ten years from 2030. Regional aircraft designs will be powered by four different propulsion technologies: hybrid-electric, electric, hydrogen fuel cell and dual fuel gas turbine. New concepts of sustainable propulsion architecture and new types of airframes have been in the works for some time in the architectural plans of the Brazilian company.

The first new concept aircraft is Embraer’s nine-seater hybrid-electric concept, the E9-HE. The nine-seater aircraft will be based on a piston engine and two electric motors. The electric motors will run during take-off and climb. However, once the aircraft reaches its cruising altitude, they will shut down, leaving the piston engine to run 50% more efficiently compared to current jet turbines. The engines and propellers of all new Embraer concepts are positioned at the rear of the fuselage. For the Energia Hybrid, this means a noise reduction of up to 60%. Energia Hybrid will emit up to 90% less CO2 emissions when powered solely by sustainable aviation fuels. It will have a range of 500 NM, and Embraer expects it to enter service by 2030. Meanwhile, the service entry of the Energy Electric E9-FE is planned for 2035. With as many seats as the Hybrid, the aircraft will have a range of 200 NM and it will be powered by batteries and an electric motor. The batteries will be interchangeable and located in the nose of the aircraft to allow fast response times, essential for the economy of the operator. The aircraft will achieve up to 80% reduction in external noise. It will also operate with zero carbon emissions. The E19-H2FC. This 19-seater plane will run on electric hydrogen propulsion. It will start at 200 NM of range, but, as Mr. Affonso has said, this can be extended according to the wishes of the clients. The technology is expected to be ready by 2035, alongside Energia Electric, and will also achieve zero-emission operations. It will also produce 70% less noise compared to current aircraft.

Embraer hopes to have a 35- to 50-seat aircraft powered by hydrogen, 100% SAF, or a combination of SAF and conventional jet fuel. Depending on the proportions of the latter, E50-H2GT could also achieve a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions. This aircraft will have a range of 350 to 500 NM and will reduce external noise by 60%. Unlike its brothers in the Energia family, it will not have an electric motor or battery. Instead, it will use dual fuel gas turbine propulsion. It can use 100% hydrogen on shorter trips, while SAF or conventional jet fuels will power longer routes. Embraer hopes to put the largest of the concepts it unveiled Monday into service by 2040.

Embraer intends to have all of its aircraft certified for SAF compatibility by 2030. In August, the manufacturer introduced its Electric Demonstrator, a 100% electric single-engine EMB-203 Ipanema. In addition, the aircraft manufacturer has scheduled a hydrogen fuel cell demonstration flight for 2025, and its zero-emission, all-electric eVTOL will enter service in 2026.

EEUU aprueba viajes post-pandemia

AW | 2021 11 09 10:34 | AIR TRAFFIC / AIRLINES MARKET / GOVERNMENT

Estados Unidos levanta prohibiciones vuelos internacionales

US approves post-pandemic travel

United States lifts international flight bans

The United States lifts a ban on international travel and airlines advance to recover pre-pandemic flight levels, thus reinforcing the recovery of air travel, precisely one of the trends that leads Bank of America to think that Brent oil could reach US $ 120 a barrel in the middle of next year 2022 due to future demand.

The bans on foreign travel to the United States established 605 days ago by the Donald Trump Administration and then extended by Joe Biden at the beginning of this year 2021, are lifted this Tuesday 09/11 towards the United Kingdom, South Africa, India, Brazil and China, among other designated countries. The reopening of borders comes with new rules that airlines must monitor among their travelers, with fines of up to US$ 35,000 per violation. Visitors must have two doses of vaccines approved or authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or listed for use by the World Health Organization, including Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca , Covishield, Sinopharm and Sinovac. However, these requirements, which will be audited on each flight, have not prevented the airlines from having reason to celebrate.

Airlines announce a considerable increase in air traffic. United Airlines anticipates a 50% increase in international passengers this Monday, compared to the previous week when it carried 20,000 people. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines expects many of its international flights on Monday to be full and in strong demand in the coming weeks. In this way, the airlines are making determined progress in their recovery, clearly seeing the return to prepandemic flight rates. American Airlines’ international capacity is estimated to be more than double that of a year ago and just 28% less than in 2019 for November and December. In the case of United Airlines, international flights next month will represent 69% in relation to the same period of 2019, an increase compared to 63% in November, additionally its transatlantic schedule will be restored by 87% in December 2021.

Oil increase

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is used as the main reference in the United States oil market. This index has risen 71.42% and Brent 64.18% so far in 2021. It is precisely the intensification of the increase in air flights, together with the rise in gas prices, which has led Bank of America to increase the target price for oil by 2022. In the case of a barrel of brent, the investment bank was aiming for it to reach US$ 100 from the current US$ 83.03, a bet that goes up to US$ 120 by the middle of next year.

Oil will continue to climb and could reach US$ 120 by the middle of next year. Oil prices have recently risen above US$ 80 a barrel, driven by its use to replace gas that is also on the rise and by an increase in air travel. In this scenario, until recently Bank of America was aiming for a target price of US$ 100 in 2022, but given the strengthening of these trends, they now anticipate that a barrel will reach US$ 120 in the middle of next year 2022. It is also reinforced thanks to the fact that OPEC+’s available (supply) capacity is declining due to lack of investment, while “the price elasticity of the US shale supply has been reduced by more than half. In that framework, they ensure that if the potential return of Iranian barrels helps to keep prices under control in 2022, a combination of rapid growth in gasoline demand and an ongoing recovery in middle distillates, together with the limitations of the refineries, could push oil prices higher in 2022.

A380, sobreviviendo a la pandemia

AW | 2021 11 09 00:35 | INDUSTRY

Segunda oportunidad Superjumbo A380

A380, surviving the pandemic

Second chance Superjumbo A380

The colossus of the air refuses to disappear, after the perfect storm of the Coronavirus pandemic has fully impacted, suppressing flights to a minimum expression throughout the world. The resilience capacity of the aircraft has been put to the test, when the vital signs indicated the end of the mega-transport of European origin. Throughout the pandemic, the return of the Airbus A380 has seemed a bit unpredictable, or perhaps an announced end. A handful of companies challenged the post-pandemic market amid a slump in long-range travel with large aircraft. The colossi of the air such as the Boeing 747, the Airbus A380, the Boeing 777, the Airbus A330/A350 were called to slow down their operations throughout the world for a reasonable time, but the airlines that have developed operations with the Superjumbo have been encouraged to put them back in heaven.

Last week, Singapore Airlines has put the mega-plane back again for short-haul flights initially. Next month, Qatar Airways will also bring back the Airbus A380. However, the airline recently revealed that it was reluctant to bring the plane back. Instead, it was forced to do so by the ongoing grounding of some of its A350 aircraft.

Qantas Airways is transporting an Airbus A380 from Germany to Sydney, Australia ahead of the type’s return to service. The entire fleet was shipped to long-term storage in the United States. In a vote of confidence for the giant in the skies, the airline is bringing the type of aircraft home again, hoping to resume flights by early 2022.

While other airlines have been looking for a reasonably quick turnaround for the A380 on its return, Qantas Airways is giving itself a bit more time. Starting in mid-December 2021, the airline will use the aircraft to refresh the training of the crew. However, the aircraft will also undergo a cabin overhaul before returning to service, to align its cabin with other A380s with the new product. The plane will also receive some TLC from Qantas engineers after more than a year away from home. The return to service of the giant A380 with the Kangaroo airline is currently planned for April 2022. It is then that the airline intends to resume flights with the Superjumbo to the destinations of Los Angeles and London.

The British Airways Airbus A380 returns to the skies this Monday morning 08/11. The British airline returned the Airbus A380 to the skies of the world. With a flight from London/Heathrow Airport to Frankfurt Rhein-Main Airport, the airline launched its crew training program with the aircraft prior to its return to long-haul services, scheduled for December 2021. The mighty Airbus A380 does not has flown for the airline for over a year, which means that the airline’s crew has lost familiarity with the aircraft. To counter this, British Airways is treating the return of the A380 to service as the entry into service of a new aircraft. This means that the airline is operating a series of short-haul flights with the giant to re-familiarize the crew with the plane.

British Airways will operate a daily rotation of the A380 to Frankfurt in Germany and Madrid in Spain for much of the next month. The goal is for the crew to become familiar with the aircraft in a short flight. If something goes wrong during training, it would be much worse on a long-distance jump to Los Angeles, compared to a short intra-European jump.

British Airways is re-establishing the long-haul return of the Superjumbo. At the moment, British Airways will fly the Airbus A380 on short-haul flights. However, in December 2021, the A380 will once again plow through the long-haul lines establishing routes such as London/Heathrow to Dubai, Johannesburg, Miami and Los Angeles.

Emirates Airline has taken delivery of its last 118th Airbus A380 before the end of the year 2021, the coronavirus pandemic has focused more attention than ever on the wide-body-only strategy. While many competitors flying far fewer widebody units than Emirates have managed to recall the model due to associated high fuel costs and maintenance costs, Emirates does not have that option. Emirates’ de facto cancellation of five backorders for the A380 has allowed it to draw something of a line under the plane, but even the most optimistic forecasts indicate it could take a matter of years before the entire global A380 fleet is back on track. fly, if that, indeed, ever becomes possible. As the world’s largest operator of A380 aircraft, the airline’s total fleet of A380s will reach 118 by the end of the year. The airline currently flies to more than 120 cities, representing 90 percent of its pre-pandemic network, and plans to restore 70 percent of its capacity by the end of the year are underway with the return to service of more than fifty A380 aircraft (50).

Captain Hassan Al Hammadi, Emirates Airline’s Senior Vice President of Flight Operations, was quick to come to the defense of the aircraft as he watched the end of the pandemic, underscoring the centrality of the A380 to the airline. «We currently have about fifty of them back in operation. We have a plan to expand this to 55 by January [2022], as other countries open their borders. The A380 is our airline’s flagship and the backbone of our airline. It will be an important part of our fleet for years to come. Most, if not all, passengers love to fly the plane. We are in the process of bringing them back one by one, two by two, four by 2. It depends on demand, but we are confident that by next summer, hopefully most of our A380s will be flying again», said Hassam Al Hammadi.

Given the dwindling number of component and spare parts suppliers, Emirates Airline could face MRO headaches as the aircraft ages; In June 2021, he said the fleet averaged 7.3 years old. While the airline seems committed to its large fleet of A380s, industry experts agree that it could require long-term solutions to this. «They seem to be looking to diversify their supply base. With this potential change in procurement behavior, interaction with them is becoming more active. We are discussing various services, especially for their A380s», said Tim Butzmann, Senior Director of Sales. Lufthansa Technik for the Middle East and Africa. Almost all A380 operators are trying to find ways to change their MRO purchasing behavior to avoid extremely costly situations with the monopolies created for the aircraft as some suppliers go bankrupt.

Air Transport Consultant John Strickland said Emirates’ medium-term fleet expansion also faced problems due to inconveniences at Boeing over the timely delivery of the 777X, of which the airline originally ordered 150 in 2013. He modified the order in 2019 126 Boeing 777Xs, with thirty 787-9s (30) replacing 24 of the Superjumbo. In early October 2021, Emirates Airline Chairman Tim Clark once again criticized Boeing for the timely delivery of the plane, saying that he would not tolerate any imperfections on the plane. «The [figures] are currently more imprecise, as a small number of A380s have been recalled and cannibalized for spare parts, and there could be more later. Initial deliveries of the Boeing 777-9 were due to take place from next year, but due to production delays and technical issues; these have been delayed until at least 2024 or 2025», said John Strickland.

«Emirates has already demanded flexibility with Boeing to adjust that order in favor of additional 787s. With some current Boeing 777-300ERs already retired or scheduled to do so, this delay is giving Emirates some headaches in terms of fleet planning and Capacity availability. It’s a true state of flux, that’s for sure, right now. We are always in discussions with manufacturers about different aircraft, for example the A350 or the B787, which are already in our order book; although they are still wide-body aircraft, they are slightly smaller than the B777», said Capt. Hassam Al Hammadi.

Qatar Airways will reintroduce the A380 making it clear that it currently does not see a long-term future for its fleet of A380 aircraft, even though it is set to reactivate at least five of the SuperJumbos in the coming weeks. In early October 2021, the airline plans to reintroduce select A380 services to destinations such as London/Heathrow and Paris/Charles De Gaulle from mid-December 2021. The move has been forced on the airline due to recent grounding. out of a total of 19 of its A350 aircraft, due to accelerated degradation of the surface under the paint.

Qatar Airways said it had made the reluctant decision to return to service at least half of its fleet of ten A380s to fill capacity shortages. The airline’s superjumbos have not flown for more than eighteen months, and the airline has repeatedly said that it is not commercially or environmentally justifiable to operate such a large aircraft in today’s market.

Group CEO Akbar Al Baker said that the grounding of the A350s «has left us with no alternative but to temporarily bring part of our A380 fleet back to key winter routes. This difficult decision reflects the severity of the A350 problem and is intended to be a short-term measure to help us balance our business needs. It does not mean a permanent reintroduction of our fleet of A380s, which were grounded in favor of more fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft at the start of the pandemic in Covid-19», said Akbar Al Baker.

Qatar Airways has also reactivated a number of A330 jets to help cover an increase in capacity requirements due to easing of travel restrictions and the upcoming peak winter holiday period, which it says is anticipated to see a return to pre-Covid levels. «One of Qatar Airways’ greatest assets is our highly flexible fleet of diverse aircraft. This means that we are not dependent on a specific aircraft type, and it allows us to balance our business needs with our responsibilities to maintain an environmentally sustainable fleet at all times. Going forward, we remain committed to finding alternative solutions to support customer demand and maintain the highest levels of sustainability and customer experience for our passengers. We continue to strongly urge Airbus to prioritize its investigations into the conclusive root cause of the problem. which affects the A350 aircraft type, and we make sure that they come up with a permanent solution as soon as possible to repair the damage and correct the underlying root cause», said Akbar Al Baker.

Ariana restablece vuelos a Dubái

Ariana Airlines reiniciará vuelos de Kabul a Dubái

AW-Ariana Afghan Airlines_Isologotype_001

Ariana restores flights to Dubai

Ariana Airlines to restart flights from Kabul to Dubai

The regular flights from Kabul to Dubai, operated by Ariana Afghan Airlines, will resume this Monday 08/11. The Afghan airline begins regular flights from Kabul to Dubai by reopening a heavily used international route that had been suspended since the Taliban’s victory over the Western-backed government in August 2021.

Ariana Afghan Airlines will operate daily flights worth US$ 550 for a one-way ticket, the state airline said on its Facebook page. A spokesperson said there had been high demand for tickets on the first flight, which was due to depart at 04:30 p.m. local time on Monday 08/11 (12:00 GMT).

Dubai will be the only international destination offered by Ariana at the moment. Some charter services have been flying to Kabul since the Taliban takeover, but normally scheduled commercial flights have been suspended.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) suspended its charter service to Kabul from Islamabad last month in October 2021, citing interference from the Taliban authorities, who had warned the airline that it should cut its ticket prices. Tickets for PIA flights had sold for as much as $ 2,500, according to local travel agents, compared to around $ 180 before the Taliban’s victory. PIA said it could not afford to operate services at previous prices due to the high cost of insuring flights to a country considered by insurers as a war zone.

With a worsening economic crisis compounding concerns about Afghanistan’s future under the Taliban, there has been a high demand for flights, compounded by repeated problems at land border crossings into Pakistan.

AW-Ariana Afghan Airlines_Isologotype

EEUU incrementa tráfico aéreo

AW | 2021 11 08 07:04 | AIR TRAFFIC

Impulso principales aerolíneas incremento viajes a EEUU

USA increases air traffic

Boost for major airlines increased travel to the US

Airline bookings to the United States took off immediately after the White House announced that the country would reopen to all vaccinated international travelers starting next week, forcing an industry turnaround, albeit challenging in a period of surge. of the Delta variant of Coronavirus. The United States measure to welcome international travelers, which takes effect on Monday 11/15, follows eighteen months of restrictions for 33 countries during the worst of the Coronavirus pandemic that separated families, impeded travel business and frustrated tourists.

Big airlines, including Air France, United Airlines and Singapore Airlines, are struggling to keep up with the sudden surge in demand, adding flights, swapping larger planes for smaller ones, and redoubling efforts to recruit and retain staff. Right after the White House announcement, British Airways saw a 900% increase in searches for flights and vacation packages to key US destinations compared to the previous week. The day after the announcement, American Airlines saw a 66% jump in flight bookings to Great Britain, 40% to Europe and 74% to Brazil. Airlines are planning a modest pullback in January and February 2022 after a strong holiday season, but anticipate strong demand in the spring that will intensify in the summer, traditionally the busiest season.

Sydney cambiaría consorcio

AW | 2021 11 08 06:50 | AIRPORTS

Acuerda venta aeropuerto a Sydney Aviation Alliance

AW-Sydney Airport_Isologotype

Sydney would switch consortium

Airport sale agreement to Sydney Aviation Alliance

The Sydney Airport/SYD Board agrees to sell the airstation for US$ 23.6 billion to an international consortium. The announcement comes a week after the airport opened for international travel. Australia’s largest and busiest airport could soon change hands, under a takeover offer announced to the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). The Sydney Airport Board recommended that shareholders vote to accept the offer. The offer comes after two previous proposals were rejected for US$ 8.25 and US$ 8.45 per share. In a statement, Sydney Airport Limited revealed that it had reached an agreement with an international consortium, which would acquire 100 percent of the listed company. The consortium, called the Sydney Aviation Alliance, is made up of several Australian and international investment and infrastructure funds. Under the plan, Sydney Airport shareholders would receive US$ 8.75 per share.

Consortium members seeking to take over Sydney Airport include the Australian Infrastructure Fund and IFM’s Global Infrastructure Fund, as well as AustralianSuper, QSuper and Global Infrastructure Partners. However, the offer will require regulatory approval. The consortium has been conducting due diligence at the airport since mid-September, reviewing the books and seeking investor approval.

A spokesperson for the Sydney Aviation Alliance said that the completion of the action was an important step forward and that the consortium expected security holders to vote on the proposed deal. «Our alliance represents many millions of Australians, we intended to work hard to bring more flights and passengers back to the airport as the aviation industry emerges from COVID-19», they said from the airport consortium.

«Today’s announcement is the culmination of months of commitment between all parties. The Sydney Airport Boards believe the outcome reflects the appropriate long-term value for the airport, and they unanimously recommend the proposal to securities holders, subject to the usual conditions, such as independent expert approval and no superior proposal», said Sydney Airport President David Gonski.
