Bombardier expects surplus in 2020

Bombardier Inc. expects the commercial unit to generate profits for 2020

Bombardier Inc. estimates a deficit for 2019, at which time the company expects to complete the sale of its QSeries Program of the Dash-8 turboprops and the generation of profits in the Canadair Regional Jet CRJ Program. A surplus in 2020 is estimated in Bombardier in a financial update.

The latest update comes one month after Bombardier announced a plan to sell the QSeries Program, which includes the Q200, Q300 and Q400 turboprop family, to Vancouver-based Viking Air for US$ 300 million. The July 2018 seizure of Bombardier manufacturing rights from the majority ownership of the CSeries Program to Airbus reflects Bombardier’s intention to focus less on commercial aviation, said Executive President Alaine Bellemare. While the strategic options remain open for the CRJ Program, Bombardier’s only remaining commercial aircraft program, which indicates to some analysts that Bombardier will sell the latest program. Bombardier released its latest financial predictions amid such variables. It is anticipated that its commercial aircraft unit will deliver about 35 aircraft by 2019 and will generate US$ 1.4 billion in revenues. The unit will still lose about US$ 125 million (before taxes, interest payments and special items expenses) next year, he says.

Resultado de imagen para Bombardier Aerospace

The aircraft manufacturer based in Montreal also anticipates strong growth in the coming years from both its business aircraft division and aerostructures. By 2020, however, the unit will become profitable, according to the update. However, Bombardier does not provide specific revenue or profit figures in 2020, citing the planned sale of the QSeries Program and the eventual sale of the CRJ Series Program.

Bombardier places great hopes in its other aerospace divisions. The company expects its business aircraft unit to deliver 150-155 aircraft by 2019, earn US$ 6.25 billion in revenue and earn a profit margin of 7.5%. The profit margin of the commercial aircraft division will increase to 8-10% in 2020, Bombardier predicts. The company expects its aerostructures and engineering unit to generate US$ 2 billion in revenues in 2019 and a 9% profit margin, followed in 2020 by at least US$ 2.25 billion in revenues and a 9-11% profit margin, says Bombardier.

«Three years after our change plan and Bombardier will be a much stronger company, we are confident of achieving our 2020 goals and we see tremendous opportunities beyond 2020», says Alain Bellemare in the financial update. A \ W

Brasil suspende alianza Boeing-Embraer

Resultado de imagen para Boeing-Embraer

AW | 2018 12 07 08:57 | INDUSTRY

Justice Brazil suspends Boeing-Embraer alliance

AW-737195BE.jpgA Brazilian federal court agreed on Thursday to a court request to block the proposed union of aircraft manufacturers The Boeing Co. and Embraer SA.

Brazilian justice on Thursday ordered the immediate suspension of the alliance between the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing and Brazil’s Embraer, hoping that on January 1, 2019, it will assume the government of President-elect Jair Bolsonaro.

Boeing had planned to take control of Embraer’s civil activities under a Joint Venture agreement, a joint venture valued at US$ 4,750 million that will allow it to compete with the European Airbus in the segment of regional aircraft. The final agreement is subject to the approval of the Brazilian government, which since the privatization of Embraer in 1994 retains a golden share that gives it veto power.

Judge Victorio Giuzio Neto, of the Federal Civil Justice of Sao Paulo decided the immediate suspension of the agreement, pending the inauguration of the new President Jair Bolsonaro, on January 1, 2019, at the head of the Brazilian executive. This postponement is a study by the state of Brazil for the power of veto in the decisions of the Embraer company.

«Considering the proximity of the recess of the Judicial Power to which must be added the taking of command of the new President of the Republic (…) it is advisable to avoid that eventual concrete acts are carried out in this period creating a difficult situation to reverse», Judge Victorio Giuzio Neto of the Federal Civil Justice of Sao Paulo explains in his decision.

Joint Venture

The new commercial alliance would be 80% controlled by Boeing and will handle Embraer’s activities in the field of commercial and service aviation excluding the defense and executive aviation sector, the new partners reported in July. However, the final agreement was subject to the approval of the Brazilian government, which since the privatization of Embraer in 1994 retains a «golden share» that gives it veto power in strategic matters of the firm.

The request to suspend the operation was presented to the judiciary by federal deputies Paulo Pimenta and Carlos Zarantini, both of the leftist Workers’ Party (PT). With this measure, the judge says that it suspends «any concrete effect of the eventual decision of the board of Embraer, in relation to the segregation and transfer of the commercial part of Embraer to Boeing through the Joint Venture to be created».

The deal has stalled, in part because the Brazilian government, which has the power to veto important decisions in Embraer, has been reluctant to give it the green light. President Michel Temer said he would leave the decision to the next government, which will take office on January 1. The elected president, Jair Bolsonaro, has said he is in favor of the business. The expectation is that the association will conclude in a term of 12 to 18 months and that it will be counted from the beginning of 2020 in the capital of Boeing. A\W

Fitch baja calificación a Bombardier

Resultado de imagen para Bombardier Inc Downsview Q400

AW | 2018 12 04 17:52 | INDUSTRY

Fitch lowers Bombardier’s credit rating

bombardier_old-svgRating agency Fitch lowers rating on construction company Bombardier Inc.

The rating agency Fitch Ratings decided to reduce Bombardier‘s credit rating by estimating that the reduction in the level of risk as part of the company’s change will be slower than expected. In a note published on Wednesday, Fitch improved the credit rating of the Quebec aircraft manufacturer from «B» to «B-«. A lower rating generally results in higher borrowing costs for a company.

Restructuring

When announcing the elimination of 5,000 positions, including 2,500 in the State of Quèbec, as part of another restructuring at the beginning of November 2018, Bombardier Inc. had a bad surprise for investors when they revealed their 3Q2018 results. The company still expects to end the year with neutral cash flows, except that it now has to account for the approximately US $ 600 million raised from the sale of the Downsview factory in Toronto.

In addition to selling its training activities for technicians and pilots for its business aircraft to the multinational CAE de Quèbec for US $ 645 million, Bombardier also pocketed some US $ 300 million by selling the Q400 Series to Viking Air.

Ratings

But Fitch stresses that its concerns about the company’s cash flow for fiscal year 2018 are being mitigated in part by asset sales and lower expenses in programs such as the Global 7500 business jet. Fitch also expressed concern over the tough competition in all sectors of the Québec multinational, the profitability of the Airbus A220 aircraft, formerly known as the CSeries, as well as a significant deficit in the pension plan.

A few days before the release of the third quarter results, Moody’s raised its outlook for Bombardier from «negative» to «stable». However, the agency did not touch the credit rating of the aircraft and the train manufacturer. On the Toronto Stock Exchange, Bombardier shares fell 12 cents, or 5.33%, to close at US$ 2.13.

Since the presentation of the results of the third quarter (3Q2018) on November 8, 2018, the President and CEO of Bombardier Inc., Alain Bellemare, has extended calm appeals to investors in an attempt to alleviate the fears of investors. A \ W

AW-70073780Lion Air considers canceling Boeing 737 MAX orders in a dispute over the plane crash

Lion Air of Indonesia is reviewing orders for Boeing aircraft and is considering the possibility of canceling the orders as the relations worsen due to the responsibility of the accident of the passenger plane Boeing 737-8 MAX that killed 189 people on 29 October 2018

Lion Air co-founder Rusdi Kirana is furious at what he considers Boeing’s attempts to divert attention from recent design changes and blame the Indonesian firm for the accident, according to the report. Lion Air currently has 190 Boeing aircraft in order.

No final decision has been made, but the discussion about the fate of the remaining US $ 22 billion orders highlights the bets surrounding an investigation related to Boeing’s best-selling aircraft, the 737 MAX, which entered service on last year.

Lion Air has 190 Boeing aircraft with a value of US$ 22 billion at catalog prices waiting to be delivered, in addition to the 197 already taken, which makes it one of the largest export customers in the United States.

Any cancellation request could be designed to put pressure on Boeing and would probably generate extensive negotiations. Many airlines differ in their orders, but industry sources say that aerospace providers rarely leave much room for unilateral cancellations.

Lion Air declined to comment. A spokesperson for Boeing said: «We are taking all measures to fully understand all aspects of this accident, and we are working closely with the research team and all the regulatory authorities involved, and we are also supporting our valued customer at this difficult time». However, BA’s shares are considerably higher in response to the commercial truce between the United States and China. A \ W

Boeing also expects China to experience strong growth in the commercial services market with an increasing demand of US$ 1.5 billion over the next 20 years, which represents 17% of the world demand.

China also plays an important role in the construction of the world’s line aircraft. The Chinese aerospace manufacturing industry supplies parts for all Boeing aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 777 and 787 Dreamliner. In December, Boeing and Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (COMAC) are ready to deliver the first 737 MAX aircraft from a completion and delivery center in Zhoushan, China. The installation will be responsible for the internal work and exterior painting of 737 MAX for the Chinese market. The final assembly work will continue at the Boeing factory in Renton, Washington.

Boeing’s activity in China is valued at more than US $ 1 billion in economic activity in China. This includes the acquisitions of Boeing’s broad base of supplies, revenues from joint ventures, operations, training and investment in research and development. A \ W

Boeing accost problematic critical technology applied to 737 MAX

Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg addresses the flight system update after the pilots’ criticism: «Regardless of the outcome, we will learn from this accident and continue to improve our safety record», he told employees in an internal memo.

Boeing has tried to mitigate the concerns of the pilots and customers area in the weeks since a Boeing 737-8 MAX crashed on the Indonesian coast, even when the investigation into the cause of the accident is inconclusive. In an internal note sent to employees last week, Boeing Executive Director Dennis Muilenburg reiterated the company’s 737 commercial airplane safety record, which he described as «a safe aircraft designed, built and supported by men and women Qualified people who approach their work with maximum integrity, regardless of the result, we will learn from this accident and we will continue to improve our safety record», Muilenburg wrote, committing the team to continue improving safety processes.

The company is dealing with the aftermath of a disaster on 29 October 2018 in which a Boeing 737-8 MAX operated by Indonesia’s low-cost airline Lion Air crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from the Jakarta Airport, killing the 189 people on board.

Discrepancies in procedures

The Association of Pilots of the United States (APA) among other groups have maintained that they were kept in the dark on an update of the MCAS automated security system of the new series of the Boeing 737 MAX.

When Boeing repositioned the engines in the 737 MAX and made them more powerful, it introduced a system called MCAS (Maneuvering Feature Enhancement System) that was intended to make the airplane behave identically to its predecessor, the 737 Next Generation Given that intention, Boeing told the airlines about the MCAS, but the pilots say it was not included in their training.

It is unclear if the 737-8 MAX from Lion Air operated as Boeing expected it to do. Boeing notified the riders in a November 6, 2018 announcement that a manual override function of the previous 737 models would not work on the MAX 8, but the Boeing representatives did not answer questions about when the company first became aware of that. change. It is also not clear why it was not addressed in the pilot training. «Listening to pilots is a critical part of our work, and their experienced input is at the center of our minds when we develop aircraft», said a Boeing spokeswoman.

Preliminary Report

The Lion Air airline’s Boeing 737-8 had experienced a flight problem prior to the accident in which screens for the pilot and copilot showed different information, according to a preliminary report released this week by Indonesian researchers. That problem the day before the fatal flight was addressed by the engineers during the night, but apparently it was not resolved.

After the Lion Air crash, Boeing issued a bulletin to airlines saying that faulty airspeed indicators could «reduce the stabilizer in increments that lasted up to 10 seconds». Although the investigation is ongoing, it appears that the pilots of the condemned flight were struggling with the MCAS System, which interpreted the defective input of an airspeed indicator, meaning that the plane was at a stop from which it could not recover unless that immediate measures will be taken. The MCAS responded by directing the nose down.

Resultado de imagen para Boeing 737 MAX TAKEOFFTHE ASSOCIATIONS OF PILOTS HAVE WARNED TO BOEING THAT THE DUE INFORMATION AND TRAINING OF THE MCAS SYSTEM FOR THE OPERATIONAL SAFETY HAS NOT BEEN PROVIDED

«Does this mean that the MCAS and other flight programs can not resolve the discrepancies between the flight screens and is not that a terrible design flaw? The computer can not reconcile the difference, or allow the [copilot] to fly normally from the right seat when there is a problem with the pilot control screen», said Mary Schiavo, aviation attorney and former Inspector General of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).

A preliminary report released on Wednesday by the National Transport Security Committee of Indonesia (KNKT/NTSC) details the chaotic final minutes of the flight. According to the report, the pilots struggled to maintain the plane’s level as it repeatedly made for the sea.

It is not clear if the pilots tried an out-of-control stabilizer procedure that would have invalidated the aircraft’s automated system. Data from the FDR (Flight Data Register) published by the researchers showed that the pilots were removing the control column in an attempt to raise the nose of the plane, applying almost 100 pounds of pressure. The report did not come to blame for the accident to the crew. A summary presented to reporters on Wednesday by the KNKT noted that the report had recommended that Lion Air «improve the safety culture» and at the same time «ensure that all operational documents are properly completed and documented». Muilenburg referred to the accident as «a tragic accident», he said that Boeing employees have been «investing a lot of energy to actively support the research and our customers of the 737 MAX».

A spokeswoman for Boeing said Thursday that the company regularly communicates with airlines and pilots, but that it has stepped up that commitment in recent weeks, including strengthening existing appropriate procedures relevant to the situation researchers have described in the flight JT-610 of Lion Air. «Every day, millions of people rely on our commercial aircraft to cross the world safely and reliably, and when that does not happen, for whatever reason, we take it seriously», the Boeing CEO told employees.

The representatives of the pilot unions say they have met with Boeing technical experts about the safety features of the new model of the 737 MAX. The chairman of the communications committee of the Association of Allied Pilots (APA), Dennis Tajer, said a group of Boeing representatives, including a senior engineer and a test pilot of the company, met with pilots of APA at the association’s headquarters in Fort Worth on Tuesday. Jon Weaks, President of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA), said the company held a similar meeting in Reno, Nevada, on Sunday. A representative of Boeing refused to comment on the meetings. «As far as I know, it was the first time that a manufacturer contacted SWAPA directly, we appreciated it, and were disappointed that we had not heard of MCAS before, but at a certain point we have to move forward,» Weaks said.

The CEO of Boeing said the company had not withheld information from customers. «You may have seen reports in the media that we have intentionally withheld information from our customers about the airplane’s functionality. That is simply false. The relevant function is described in the Flight Crew Operations Manual, and we routinely involve clients on how to operate our aircraft safely». Boeing continues to maintain a safety policy on the development of the latest model 737 MAX. A \ W

Boeing busca acordar con Embraer

AW | 2018 11 29 18:01 |INDUSTRY

Boeing seeks to close deal with Brazilian Embraer this year but government change is about to change in Brazil

Boeing begins an approach of the future president of the Republic of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro. Although the company still works with the idea of having, until the end of the year, the seal of the Brazilian government, fundamental for the conclusion of the business, the idea in the American giant is to begin to draw up alternatives.

The biggest fear in the company today is to step back in the negotiations and lose months in the negotiation, officially confirmed on December 21, 2017. The final terms of the Joint Venture were announced in July 2018, and it predicts that Americans will have 80% of the production segment of Brazilian commercial aircraft, while Embraer will hold 20% of the shares. Despite being a minority shareholder, the Brazilian government has the so-called Golden Share of the former state, which gives right of veto in decisions of the company.Resultado de imagen para Boeing-Embraer Airgways.com

Since then, details are being worked on. The forecast is that the last two points in open are held in the first week of December, but are minor adjustment issues. In theory, the government of Michel Temer could give approval for the business by the end of 2018, which will still need to be approved by the other shareholders of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer in Boeing, the current directive already has carte blanche to conclude the transaction and the current government is trying to inform the new administration about the terms of business. But, regardless of that, the US company wants to strengthen ties with the future leadership of Brasilia.

The Americans’ fear is that, without approval by the end of the year, the outcome of the negotiation may be delayed. In a new government filled with economic priorities, the conclusion of the agreement ends in the drawer or, worse, be revised. The US giant never concealed that it would like the business to be completed quickly. At first, the definition of the terms of the agreement took longer than expected and now the confirmation of the business by Brasilia also occurs in steps slower than imagined. The strong liberal bias in the economy, anti-privatization and pro-American management that begins on 1 January 2019 give Americans confidence that the business will be approved.

The Americans want to intensify ties with the future Brazilian administration. At the same time, pressure from civil society – such as unions and prosecutors – grows for more business guarantees. There are initiatives to ensure that the agreement guarantees the manufacture of aircraft in Brazil and the development of technology on Brazilian soil. Measures such as these would guarantee jobs and strategic technology development in Brazil, according to the applicants. For both sides of the business, a quick conclusion to the US military bid, which may decide to purchase up to 150 super-toucan aircraft produced by the Brazilian company in partnership with the US-based Sierra Nevada, would be an incentive for the Brazilian government to expedite the conclusion of the purchase of the commercial division of the Brazilian manufacturer by Boeing. Although the military division of Embraer is out of business, there is an increasing interest from the São José dos Campos company to interact with the Americans, who are going to sell the KC-390 freighter, the largest aircraft ever produced in Brazil and that can to be manufactured also in the United States, in the plant that the Brazilian maintains in Florida. Negotiations between Boeing and Embraer reached the public after European Airbus partnered with Bombardier, taking over the C-Series aircraft program. Bombardier is Embraer’s largest competitor in the medium jet market, with up to 150 seats. Faced with the new force of the Europeans, the Americans looked for an opportunity to grow in regional jets, that did not operate, and to have the possibility to offer a complete range of airplanes.

Although company sources say the talks began earlier, market analysts saw the announcement as a response to the Airbus-Bombardier business. For Embraer, it would be the way, according to the defenders of the business, to have a powerful umbrella against new Japanese, Chinese and Russian competitors, who are entering the segment of aircraft of up to 150 passengers. Critics, however, say that the deal will limit Brazil’s growth potential, which will not in the future seek to compete in the larger aircraft market, in addition to jeopardizing the development of state-of-the-art technology dominated by few nations.

Boeing has delivered the 1,000th plane under the painting of the Dutch company Akzo Nobel

Boeing has passed a major milestone in its paint association with Akzo Nobel after the delivery of its Boeing 787. The flagship aircraft was painted with a special livery for China Southern Airlines, using the industry-leading transparent coating base system in the the company. At the same time, Boeing recently delivered its 1,000th aircraft that was painted with the incomparable Akzo Nobel Aerodur 3001/3002 painting system.

Aerodur 3001/3002 is the most widely used aerospace paint system in the industry. AkzoNobel has been supplying it to Boeing since 2010, and has been supplying a base coat/clearcoat to the aircraft manufacturer since 2014.

«Our partnership with Boeing stands out in the industry and is a great source of pride for AkzoNobel. By celebrating these important milestones together, we are grateful for the confidence that Boeing has placed in our products and services and we commend Boeing for the delivery of the 787a 787. Akzo Nobel’s Aerodur 3001/3002 remains the only transparent layer / basecoat paint system that complies with Boeing’s paint specifications and this is one of the reasons driving Akzo Nobel to the market leadership position «We are proud of this achievement and will continue to work with Boeing and our customers from other airlines to advance our state-of-the-art paint systems to ensure superior performance now and in the future», said John Griffin, Director of Aerospace Segments of the company.

The Aerodur system stands out for two main reasons: shorter application time and greater durability. This results in a drastic reduction in downtime. It also provides excellent retention of shine and color, superior resistance to chemicals and stains, flexibility and weatherability. Which explains why he has become a pioneer in the aerospace industry. Airlines that once requested monolayer systems now specify the base layer / clearcoat system. A \ W
