AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Avianca Argentina will begin operations at the Sauce Viejo Airport, Santa Fe

This week, authorities of the airline Avianca Argentina toured the facilities and reported that they plan to start operations on May 2, 2018.

The airport of the area of the capital of Santa Fe will double its current offer of two daily trips. Avianca Argentina will begin flights to Sauce Viejo Airport, with two daily frequencies Buenos Aires-Sauce Viejo.

Avianca will compete directly with Aerolíneas Argentinas, at least in the morning time slot. At present the planes take off daily from Buenos Aires at 07:55 and 12:20, and leave Santa Fe at 09:35 and at 2:00 p.m. The new company plans to incorporate a ship on the same morning schedule and add another around 19:30 hs, which is an insistent demand of frequent passengers because of the impossibility that currently involves traveling at the end of the day. It will continue to be a deficit to expand the offer to other destinations in the country. The Aerolíneas flight departing at 9:35 a.m. has an average occupancy of 90% of its capacity.

On Tuesday, the Chief of Commercial and Operations Management of Avianca visited the local airport, toured the facilities and observed the offices where they will operate and the counters where they will check in. «They told us that they plan to start operating on May 2 next», said David Giavedoni, still director of the local aerospace. «Surely, by incorporating another flight in the same time slot, will come to compete in the prices of tickets», he added. AW | 2018 03 22 17:45 | AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aeronautics ruled out during Holy Week

The unions were on alert after the announcement of Aerolineas Argentinas that canceled 35 flights scheduled for Wednesday and reprogrammed another 49 for lack of aircraft in flight conditions.

The aeronautical guilds of Argentina until yesterday spoke of a strike in Holy Week as a possibility, which was never denied or confirmed. Today, the measures of force with the scheduled cancellations of the flights and their subsequent reprogramming would have turned them into the main generators of inconveniences against the users of the company.

Airlines suspended the sale of tickets until next Sunday and for this Wednesday canceled 35 flights and reprogrammed another 49. The reason for these cancellations and reprogramming is that several aircraft of the fleet are on land with different types of faults caused by the hail that fell on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 14.

The measures of force during Holy Week were due to the fact that in those days there is a greater demand to the main tourist destinations, demand that according to the company itself is already covered by 90 percent, «said the source.

The aim of the union threat of force measures was to warn that the aeronautical guilds are against the airline commercial policy of the airline company. Pilots have been demanding the closure of routes in favor of transnational companies. A \ W

Norwegian Air Argentina trasladaría ops

AW | 2018 03 22 02:40 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Norwegian Air Argentina would move ops

Norwegian Air Argentina would change operations to Aeroparque and Ezeiza

Norwegian Air Argentina will start operations in July 2018 with a change of base of initial operations of the El Palomar International Airport to Aeroparque and Ezeiza airports.

The change in operations is due to the controversies generated by El Palomar Airport due to the inconveniences caused by the environmental impact studies that are at the center of the controversy that has tied Flybondi, the new low cost Argentina.

The airline Norwegian Air Argentina began evaluating the possibility of replacing operations in mid-2018 from the Ezeiza International Airport and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. The controversial El Palomar Airport located in the northwest of the city of Buenos Aires, aims to implement a dynamic model that reduces operating costs to low cost airlines, as the national government intended. The airline Flybondi is redesigning its operations chart due to the limitations imposed on more frequencies at El Palomar Airport.

The second public hearing held on September 6, 2018 by the Ministry of Transportation and the ANAC, Norwegian Air Argentina presented its plans to operate a total of 152 air routes. The airline of Norwegian capital requested to use Aeroparque and Ezeiza as hubs to decompress the El Palomar Airport crisis. Even so, Norwegian would reconsider operations on this basis.

The intention of the government of Argentina was to legitimize the announced change of plans through which the State had to take charge of the necessary money for El Palomar Base.

Another element to take into account, is the announcement made by the Minister of Transport Guillermo Dietrich to inaugurate the new control tower of Aeroparque when he confirmed that the investment to use the El Palomar military base as a commercial airport, the State would face and Flybondi would not have to invest the 30 million dollars that he had promised when he launched his idea to operate from there.

From that moment until now much water ran under the bridge and events occurred that left in evidence the improvisation in which the national government incurred when choosing El Palomar as a commercial airport. Since the failed first month of operations, which exposed the severe limitations of infrastructure and technology that suffers, coupled with the untidiness of the low cost Flybondi operations due in part to the operational problems of El Palomar.

The El Palomar Conflict

What most would have tipped the balance for the Norwegian flag carrier is the social conflict surrounding the air terminal in question. The massive refusal of the neighbors to make the base for commercial use and the judicial battle waged, made the Nordics begin to lie on the classic and reliable airports of Aeroparque and Ezeiza. The low cost would evaluate as indisputable the existence of a social conflict around the questioned airport and that the people of the area reject it. So, to try to preserve is that of corporate social responsibility, they would not have the intention of paying the cost of being involved in a case of such magnitude.

The recent visit of the Norwegian kings to Argentina, King Harald V and Queen Sonia, would also have influenced the airline to start looking towards Ezeiza and Aeroparque to leave El Palomar Airport aside.

On March 8, the Nordic royalty was present at the Ezeiza Airport and officially presented the first Argentine license plate with which the Scandinavian low cost airline will formally start its cabotage operations during the middle of the year.

The events caused by the tension surrounding El Palomar have undermined the possibility of considering this alternative airport. The possible refusal of Norwegian would definitively seal the possibilities of continuing to use El Palomar Base as a commercial airport. A\W

Norwegian Air Shuttle sufre turbulencias

Resultado de imagen para norwegian air

AW | 2018 03 22 01:36 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Norwegian Air Shuttle suffers turbulence

The passage of the low-cost airline by the Oslo stock exchange has been marked by two strong crashes

The airline raises its falls by nearly 30% in the last month and a half as an increase is advanced and losses are greater than expected. The stock evolution of Norwegian Air Shuttle is dotted with continuous turbulence in the last year. The company suffered two particularly sharp crashes in 2017, in July and November.

The beginning of 2018 led to a spectacular bullish rally. But its effects have been completely diluted as a result of the new collapse, suffered since the beginning of February. Since February 2, 2018, its shares have fallen close to 30%. The falls reach this level with the reverse recorded on the Oslo Stock Exchange by the Norwegian low-cost airline.

The company has escaped the fears generated by its financial situation with the announcement of a capital increase for NKr 1,300 million (136 million euros). The extension will be made at a price of NOK 155, which is almost 10% off compared to the close of the session on Tuesday.

The announcement of the increase coincided with the advance of losses higher than expected in the first quarter of the year. The airline is anticipating losses before taxes of NOK 2,600 million, about 273 million euros. Analysts predicted operating losses close to 2 billion crowns.

Norwegian Air warned on Tuesday night of a wider than expected loss in the first quarter. «The results of the issuance of shares show that investors have enormous confidence in the company, and they should not, because Norwegian Air is losing a huge amount of money», said Karl-Johan Molnes, chief analyst at brokerage Norne Securities.

The airline said its pre-tax loss in the first quarter would reach 2.6 billion crowns, compared to a loss of 1.8 billion crowns in the same period last year, and fuel costs were 12% higher than expected so far this year.

While the January-March revenue projection of 7,100 million crowns was almost in line with the 7,240 million estimated by analysts, according to Thomson Reuters Eikon data, the loss before taxes was 550 million crowns more than the expected.

Norwegian Air reiterated its confidence in building a profitable long distance business and said that now was the time when it had to spend money to build its transatlantic business. A \ W

Aerolíneas vs Cláusula Alcance

Resultado de imagen para delta connection airlines

AW | 2018 03 21 21:08 | AIRLINES MARKET

Delta Air Lines

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Regional airlines and the Scope clause

Regional airlines and the Law of scope clause in an encrusijada

US airlines have had limits on the number and size of regional aircraft in their supplier fleets almost since the day Comair introduced the Bombardier CRJ-100 in June 1993.

Regional aircraft fleets have evolved from a preponderance of 50-seat models, including the CRJ100/200 and Embraer ERJ-145, in the 1990s and early 2000s, to larger 70 and 76 seat aircraft, including Bombardier CRJ -900 and Embraer 175.

The scope clauses of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines focus on the largest aircraft. All three have limits on the number of large regional aircraft allowed in their supplier fleets, as well as limits on the number of seats at 76 with some exceptions of acquired rights and maximum take-off weight (MTOW) at 39.01t (86,000 lb)

These limits were established since 2012, when Delta pilots ratified a contract to increase the number of 76-seat aircraft in exchange for the incorporation of the 110-seat Boeing 717-200 into its main fleet. American and United did the same with similar agreements with their pilots who, although they did not add a small mainline aircraft, allowed larger aircraft such as Delta.

Clause Scope Concept

A scope clause is part of a contract between an airline and a pilot union. In general, these clauses are used by the union of an important airline to limit the number and/or size of the aircraft that the airline can contract with a regional airline. The objective is to protect union jobs in the main airline from being outsourced to regional airlines that operate larger aircraft. In 2016, the limit was 76 seats and a maximum takeoff weight of 86,000 lb (39 t) until 2019 on United Airlines, and 2020 on Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, which limits sales of the new Mitsubishi MRJ90 and Embraer 175 -E2 for the smaller MRJ70 and the current E175.

American airlines may be at their next reach crossroads. United and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) could begin negotiations starting in May on a contract to replace the one that will be amended on January 31, 2019. Negotiations will be closely monitored from all corners. The contracts in American and Delta can be modified on January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2019, respectively, and it is likely that the changes achieved by United will be sought.

Aircraft owners are interested in any number of changes, from allowing additional aircraft to changes in seat count and weight. Both Embraer E-Jet-E2 and Mitsubishi MRJ families exceed the limits of 76 seats and 39.01t MTOW under current contracts, effectively blocking next-generation aircraft from regional US fleets. «We believe that the limitations of MTOW could be alleviated to some extent, or airlines and passengers can not enjoy the next generation of aircraft,» said Masao Yamagami, then president and CEO of Mitsubishi Aircraft America.

United Airlines

United wants more large regional jets, a public torch that only transports, for now, between the main operators. «Our growth really needs more than 76 seats», Scott Kirby, president of the Chicago-based company, said at a financial conference on March 14. Kirby and United’s chief financial officer, Andrew Levy, say the airline needs the additional regional increase to remain competitive against American and Delta, and to meet its ambitious plans for capacity growth of 4-6% per year through 2020. «If we’re trying to bring a 50-seat product to Rochester, Minnesota and our competitors are flying a good product of 76 [seat] of two classes, we’re going to lose that battle», says Kirby.

Resultado de imagen para airlines regional US

United’s scope clause limits it to 255 regional jets with seats of 70 to 76 seats, an amount reached by the end of 2017. You can add up to 70 larger regional jets if you add a new small mainline aircraft, specifically the Bombardier CSeries o Embraer E-Jet, in a proportion of one additional regional aircraft for every 1.25 mainline aircraft. The airline can have an almost unlimited number of small regional jets, or those with 50 seats or less, and an unlimited number of turboprops in its feeder fleet. United had 256 small regional jets and 255 large models in its power fleet by the end of 2017, as shown by its fleet plan. «[United] does not need scope relief and has the ability to achieve our growth strategy today», said Todd Insler, president of ALPA United.

The comments of Kirby and Levy, so far, have only suggested that they want to increase the number of large regional jets above 255. They have not made any comments about the search for a larger number of seats or MTOW, any of which is necessary. Next generation of regional aircraft. jets, including the E175-E2 and MRJ90.

Delta will follow United in contract negotiations in 2019. The scope of the Atlanta-based operator limits it to up to 450 regional jets, including 125 small jets and 325 large jets, with the latter divided between 102 aircraft with 51-70 seats and 223 aircraft. with 71-76 seats.

The airline had 136 Bombardier CRJ200 and 324 large regional jets in its power fleet at the end of 2017, as shown by its fleet plan. The 10 50 seats above the limit of 450 aircraft are allowed under the exceptions of the contract. Delta executives have not spoken directly about whether they plan to look for more 76-seat jets or change the range limits to allow larger and heavier aircraft in the next round of negotiations. The airline refuses to comment.

However, the strategy presented on his investor’s day in December 2017 sheds some light on his plans. Plans to reduce by 2023 the number of departures of national seats in regional jets to approximately 20% with 2% in small regional jets and 18% in large regional jets below 27% in 2017. This would suggest a decrease in dependence of regional jets, especially 50 seats, over the next five years.

Delta is alone among the three big US. After initially adding 88 Boeing 717-200s in exchange for 70 larger regional jets in 2012, it ordered 75 CS100s in 2016 and plans to start receiving aircraft deliveries later this year.

The carrier expects domestic seat departures on small mainline aircraft to increase to approximately 20% in 2023 from 14% last year, as shown by the investors’ day presentation. «We will not attempt to grant concessions to [Delta] in any section of our work agreement, including scope, and we are currently in protracted JV-related negotiations that involve improving scope protections,» says Captain Bill Bartels, Delta Master’s President executive council in ALPA.

American Airlines

American has the most generous scope clause that exists among the major operators in the United States. UU The number of large regional jets with 66-76 seats has a limit of 40% of its main narrow-body fleet, allowing up to 320 of the jets based on a count of narrow bodies of 799 at the end of 2017.

The regional fleet of the Fort Worth-based airline has a limit of 75% of its main narrow-body fleet, which allows a total of 599 regional aircraft. American’s aircraft fleet averaged 290 regional jets with up to 65 seats and 303 aircraft with 66-76 seats in the second half of 2017, according to an Allied Pilots Association (APA) count. The airline has two configurations in its 110 Bombardier CRJ700, one with up to 65 seats and another with 70 seats, which allows it to remain in compliance with the range.

American management has not commented recently whether or not it plans to seek relief in scope or a change in the definition of a large regional jet in the next round of contract negotiations. The airline refuses to comment. The last change the United States sought was a change in definition during its last round of negotiations at the end of 2014. It wanted to redefine a large regional aircraft as one with 71-76 seats instead of 66-76 seats, a change that would have allowed to add up to 81 aircraft more than 76 seats that your agreement at the time allowed. «If the United States wants to fly with larger regional aircraft, we will be happy to take them to the main line», says the APA, adding that the scope concessions are not a start for the union.
