AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Plane mechanical failure of Andes in Tucumán

A Boeing MD-83 landed in emergency at Tucumán Airport

The MD-83 took off at 8:00 am from Jujuy and arrived at Benjamín Matienzo at 9:25 am. The technical breakdown in one of its Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines forced the commander of flight OY-855 of Andes Líneas Aéreas, which covered the trip between Jujuy and Aeroparque, to make an emergency landing at Benjamín Matienzo airport in this capital. From the company estimate that the service could be completed at 4:30 pm, when the ship is repaired.

The flight OY-855 covered in about one hour and twenty-five minutes the trip to Tucumán, where it landed at 09:25 hs. «It’s a common procedure, the plane is able to fly with a single engine, what the commander did is get off in Tucumán, to correct that pressure drop».

As the Andes workshops work in Salta, from there a technical team will move to repair the ship. It is estimated that the service could be completed at 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, from Andes Líneas Aéreas announced that the 144 passengers were informed during the flight and, already in Tucumán, they will be able to have lunch while waiting for the departure time to be confirmed to Aeroparque.

At the end of January, a service of the same company, which linked the Brazilian city of Florianópolis and Córdoba, due to a low oil pressure in one of its engines, completed the journey with a single engine. A \ W

EEUU cancelan más de 2,400 vuelos

Resultado de imagen para storm USA airport

AW | 2018 03 07 20:25 | AIRLINES / AIR TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

US airlines cancel more than 2,400 flights

US airlines have canceled more than 2,400 in the northeast

Most major airports in the Northeast were operating with minimal delays, despite cancellations, the FAA said. Meteorologists adjusted their snowfall predictions several times Wednesday when another powerful winter storm hit the northeast, but many airlines took no chances.

The airlines canceled more than 2,400 scheduled flights to or from major airports in the Boston, Philadelphia and New York area, according to the FlightAware site.

More than half of scheduled departures, 353 flights, from Newark Liberty International Airport were canceled. The airport is a great center for United Airlines. Carriers canceled 342 flights from LaGuardia Airport and 266 from John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to FlightAware. A similar number of flights to those airports were also canceled. Airlines canceled more than 320 flights that were canceled to and from Logan International Airport in Boston.

Newark Airport closed briefly on Wednesday afternoon and flights to Philadelphia International Airport were delayed by almost two hours due to ice and other bad weather conditions, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The airlines, including United, Delta, JetBlue and American, waived the exchange rates for travelers affected by the storm if those people could move their trips to the next few days.

While forecasts continue to change, airlines often cancel flights before severe weather to avoid stranded crews and passengers, which can lead to even greater logistical headaches. A \ W

Argentina niega privatizar Aerolíneas

Clarin.com 07767677

AW | 2018 03 07 05:51 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Government of Argentina denies privatizing Aerolíneas

AW-AR737MAXLogoThe Minister of Transport of Argentina has ensured that the state flag company will remain in the hands of the State

The Minister of Transportation Guillermo Dietrich, has confirmed that the Government of Argentina has no intention of privatizing the company Aerolíneas Argentinas. The official defended the management they are carrying out in the company:

«Today the rates are cheaper, there are more planes, more routes, better customer service, more punctuality, and it needs much less money than before». With an efficient management of the company, the Government has left behind the specter of the privatization of the state firm.

«We have shown the opposite of privatization, Airlines is incorporating new planes and many more routes, that supposed social contribution that Aerolineas had and for which AR $ 5 billion was justified by the Kirchner in subsidies, was false», He said. The state company commanded by Mario Dell’Acqua after the resignation of Isela Costantini at the end of 2016, did not connect the Argentines and exemplified that in Mar del Plata they have lived it, given that the city was «disconnected and with very expensive rates».

«Before, on average, they were 700 million per year and today there are 90. So, we have to see the differences between that vision of disaster that was transmitted and this vision of growth and optimism that exists today», said the Minister of Transport. The official also pointed out that in 2015 there were four flights in season to Mar del Plata and today there are 14 and that many will be maintained during the year.

«Passengers went from 47 thousand to 122 thousand taking the first two months of 2015 to 2018. This is 60% Paradoxically, for many people who were afraid of this and commented that Airlines was going to disappear, that there was a Machiavellian plan, Airlines doubled the number of passengers in these years, not only did not disappear but double the amount», he said. This is because the company generated connections with Tucumán, Mendoza, Córdoba and that has made Mar del Plata an option for people from many regions of the country. A \ W

Boeing y el diseño del 797

Resultado de imagen para Boeing line assembly

AW | 2018 03 07 00:15 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing and the design of the 797

Boeing-Company-LogoThe Boeing Company faces the challenge of airlines on the design of the 797X Program

Boeing is studying the shape of the aircraft that will depend on the remaining section for cargo in the ventral area of the new commercial aircraft. Asian airlines prefer to carry more payload than US companies.

It is possible that Boeing will have to rethink one of the most distinctive features of its proposed new mid-range jet, a small cargo hold, to win over customers in Asia, potentially the largest aircraft market. The aircraft maker faces the «enigma of the cargo» for the aircraft dubbed Boeing 797 by industry observers, said Domhnal Slattery, founder and CEO of Avolon Holdings Ltd., the world’s third largest aircraft leasing firm.

The major US carriers and their counterparts on the other side of the Pacific have very different views on the amount of baggage and cargo that aircraft must carry, specifically, Asian carriers want to carry more, Slattery said. The disagreement potentially casts doubt on the distinctive oval-shaped fuselage that Boeing is planning for the 797, suggesting a lighter cargo mission.

Middle market

Boeing has revealed some details about his first new plane. The general plan is for a family of two aircraft designed to superimpose the largest single-aisle aircraft and the smallest wide-body models. The double-aisle aircraft would accommodate between 220 and 270 passengers, Randy Tinseth, vice president of commercial marketing at Boeing, said Monday.

The new mid-range aircraft, which would debut in 2024 or 2025, could fly around 5,000 nautical miles. The objective is to provide services to both highly congested short-range flights within China and Asia, as well as to longer routes from, for example, the Midwestern United States. UU Europe more efficiently than the current generations of Airbus A330 and Boeing 767 aircraft.

Boeing believes the plane has the potential to open hundreds of new direct routes, as does its 787 Dreamliner, whose fuel efficiency and long-range efficiency drove airlines to connect 170 new city pairs, Tinseth said. Delta Air Lines Inc. and United Continental Holdings Inc. are among the operators that have expressed interest in the 797.

Because Boeing, based in Chicago, worked with about 50 customers around the world to perfect its design, the big US network operators. UU They indicated that internal cargo is not a priority. That freed Boeing to consider a framework that analysts described as «ovoid», pinched at the sides to provide a more spacious passenger cabin and a smaller cargo hold.

Asian buyers may have a different view of the ideal cross section of the plane: the combination of cabin and cargo hold, said Slattery, whose leasing company is controlled by Bohai Capital Holding Co. Ltd. of China. «This is the big problem, I coined it today as the enigma of the cargo.»

For Boeing, «This raises a very interesting strategic question: what is the biggest market for this aircraft in a period of 25 years? Unquestionably, it is Asia», said Slattery.

The plane, if launched, will emerge at a time when the aviation market is leaning towards fast-growing airlines in China and other Asia-Pacific countries. The growth is the product of an expanding middle class that is beginning to look for air travel for the first time.

Of the 1,350 unique pairs of new cities launched worldwide last year, some 600 were in Asia, including some 400 in China, Slattery said. Within the national market served by US carriers, only 61 new urban routes were created.

«Historically, Boeing would have launched a plane like this with a major American, Boeing has to be very careful to build an aircraft that is fit for its purpose in Asia, because that’s where the action is», Slattery said, pointing out the great need. of airlines such as United, Delta and American, which will eventually replace their 757 and 767 fleets. Boeing y la importación del aluminio

Resultado de imagen para Boeing line assembly

AW | 2018 03 06 23:57 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing and the import of aluminum

Boeing-Company-LogoThe obstacles to the importation of aluminum harms Boeing’s competitiveness against Chinese airlines

Airbus rubs its hands with the announcement of Donald Trump to increase protectionism over metals of high strategic and industrial value. His proposal to impose tariffs of 25% on imports of steel and 10% of aluminum impacts fully on Boeing, which sees its competitiveness falter in the face of these measures.

The increase of the price in the aluminum can damage the costs of Boeing, since 80% of the structure of an airplane needs this metal. Boeing’s main supplier of this component is Arconic.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, anticipated the government’s strategy that the US steel and aluminum industry has been historically harmed by trade agreements of other countries, and that it will work for fair trade.

Boeing has a public image closely linked to the Trump administration: its executive director Dennis Muilenburg maintains a very close relationship with the US president. In addition to the manufacturer and other companies obtained juicy benefits from the White House tax reform their results grew by 67%. Analysts remember that since Trump won the election, the company’s shares have risen 146% so far.

Beijing retaliation

The Chinese government can take advantage of the trade war to punish Boeing and catapult sales of its COMAC C919 plane. But the increase in costs is not the only problem. Boeing may be the victim of reprisals by the Chinese government, a market in which Airbus will not lose a second in seducing. Most of the most important customers in China are state airlines, or those held by government-controlled banks. The few independent buyers could receive strong pressure from Beijing to cancel orders.

The Chinese government sees a golden opportunity to boost COMAC, the company that manufactures the C919 aircraft and that aims to break the duopoly of Boeing and Airbus, to displace the 737 and the A320 from the skies of the country. Comac expects to deliver 785 aircraft starting in 2021, although for now all its customers are Chinese airlines. If the trade war between the Asian giant and the US intensifies, Boeing will be heading hopelessly towards a collision. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Enlargement of Mar del Plata Airport

The AA2000 consortium will expand the facilities of Mar del Plata Airport

The great influx of flights during the high season from Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Córdoba and Rosario have congested Astor Piazzolla Airport in Mar del Plata. Therefore, AR$ 230 million pesos will soon be invested to expand it and improve its services and infrastructure. In addition, it will be equipped with new technology to control air navigation. It will have larger pre-boarding rooms, «manga» and more services. The works begin in the middle of the year.

Only on Monday there were eleven departures from Camet airport and in the season more than 122,000 passengers flew to and from here. For the Minister of Transportation of the Nation, Guillermo Dietrich, who arrived for the announcement, «Mar del Plata is today the protagonist of an aircraft revolution».

With the opening of flights and new official policy, there were 14 daily flights that the Mar del Plata Airport has. Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral, Andes operate and the last to arrive was Avianca. Lasa Líneas Aéreas will soon join, joining Mar del Plata with Neuquén and Puerto Montt, in Chile.

The new Mar del Plata Airport will have larger pre-boarding rooms and a sleeve to go directly from the aircraft to the covered facilities. The works, which are in tender, will begin in the second half of the year. They will include the extension of the pre-boarding rooms, domestic and international, and will have a sleeve for the direct passage of passengers between the boarding gate and the plane. Today, however, tourists must walk the last stretch on foot, outdoors, even on rainy days.

According to official figures, Mar del Plata airport was the country that grew the most in February 2018. Counting the first two months of the year the terminal had 122,378 passengers on domestic flights, more than twice the number of people who had flown in summer of 2015, while Aerolineas Argentinas moved a total of 84,873 passengers, 99% more than those it had had in January and February 2015. This year 413 flights from Avianca and 86 from Andes were added.

Within the investment amount, some 50 million pesos will be for the control tower, which will include the new ILS, which guides the aircraft on their approach to the airport. A \ W

LAW Airlines atravesando la crisis

AW | 2018 03 06 21:31 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

LAW Airlines going through the crisis

The Chilean airline LAW Airlines is going through a period of financial instability

The airline Latin American Wings (LAW) is showing signs of risk of collapse due to the financial, judicial and operational problems it faces in both Chile and Peru.

After facing a period of strong competition in the Republic of Chile by low-cost airlines, the company had decided to avand the domestic air market to focus on the inter-national routes by virtue of improving profitability, began to show flaws in principle in the routes to the Dominican Republic, then faced difficulties in Peru. the airline maintains a debt with the operator of the Jorge Chávez International Airport, Lima Airport Partners (LAP).

The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) of Peru announced the provisional suspension of the LAW operations permit, due to the fact that it has not complied to date with formulating a flight program that ensures normal compliance with its itineraries. The suspension rules from Sunday, March 4; However, in order for it to comply with its scheduled flights until March 15 (date until which tickets were sold), the DGAC has granted it a special flight license, which will expire upon completion of all the itineraries informed the air transport authority. Faced with this turbulence, the company would be looking to transfer the 10 weekly frequencies that it operates on the route linking Santiago-Lima to another air operator.

On March 9, the Chilean Civil Aviation Board (JAC) will tender three frequencies precisely to Peru, which could limit the demand and price of these LAW assets. «Another issue that would limit the value of frequencies is that, if a company does not use the frequencies for six months, they return to the State and relicit», they added.

LAW Airlines has five aircraft registered to operate in the international market from Santiago. One of them is out of service, and of the four remaining planes, during these days his owner initiated the process to de-register one of them, as confirmed by a high source of the sector.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) indicated that it will continue with the necessary supervision so that the aforementioned airline complies with the transfer of the total number of affected passengers. A \ W

Reino Unido Open Skies vs Brexit

Vuelo de Union Jack

AW | 2018 03 06 21:04 | AIRLINES MARKET

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

United Kingdom Open Skies vs Brexit

United States will offer standard access rights to UK carriers after Brexit

The pact of open skies allows any EU airline and any US company to fly between any point in the European Union and anywhere in the US. Washington has announced that it would not establish a status quo with the United Kingdom. The transport officials of the United Kingdom expressed that the meetings were going well. But the problem arose when American negotiators offered only a basic bilateral agreement for when Britain leaves the EU.

A bilateral agreement aims to replace the current «Open Skies» agreement that governs air traffic between the EU member states and the US. The three largest transatlantic carriers in the United Kingdom: British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Norwegian UK require them to have majority ownership and control of their country of origin, instead of the majority ownership of the EU, as the rules currently do.

Standard agreements generally require that airlines be majority owned and controlled by companies in their country of origin. British Airways, parent of International Airline Group and Virgin Atlantic have a mix of ownership, which caused fears that flights could be affected.

The negotiators rely on an eventual agreement to keep open the busy routes between the United Kingdom and the United States, which represent more than a third of the current transatlantic traffic. But there are legal and political obstacles that could prevent the two parties from reaching an agreement in time to provide legal security to airlines that book flights a year in advance.

Traffic between the United Kingdom and the US is a big business that represents more than a third of all transatlantic flights. Negotiators will continue to try to reach a better agreement before the UK officially leaves the EU in March 2019, but the time is short. Airlines need clarity well in advance so they can continue publishing schedules and make reservations up to one year in advance.

IAG said: «We are fully confident that the US and the UK will sign an agreement that benefits everyone and that IAG complies with the ownership and control regulations of the EU and the UK after Brexit».

Virgin Atlantic said it remained «confident that a new liberal agreement will be reached, which will allow us to continue flying to all our destinations in North America».

A spokesman for the UK Department of Transportation said: «Our talks with the US on a new air service agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States have been positive and we have made significant progress, and both parties want to conclude these discussions soon. the parties have a shared interest in ensuring that existing rights continue under the new bilateral agreements, allowing airlines on both sides of the Atlantic to continue operating existing services, as well as seek to develop new ones».

The US Department of State said: «Our shared objective with the United Kingdom is to ensure the smoothest possible transition in the transatlantic market.Commercial aviation is key to the dynamic economic relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. well and, although no specific dates are set, we plan to meet again soon».

The new anti-liberal attitude of the USA UU For the trade, the British negotiators enter into talks with Washington during the worst moment to negotiate on matters of international cooperation. A \ W
