AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing completes production line 767

Boeing-Logo.svgThe Boeing Co. has announced the completion of the 767 ProgramResultado de imagen para Boeing.com 767 logo

Boeing has officially announced the completion of the 767 Program this Monday, March 5, 2018 to revitalize the famed Boeing 767 passenger jet while still evaluating options for a promising niche in the aircraft market.

Initially there was speculation that the 767 aircraft line would be reactivated to offer airlines low-price support should a proposed new mid-market aircraft be delayed.

Reports last fall suggested that Boeing could resume production of the 767-300ER passenger to act as a bridge until the NMA opens in the period from 2024 to 2025. It was understood that United Airlines had expressed interest.

Boeing Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg said last November that the fuselage had a «broad customer interest» in the 767 beyond military and cargo uses.

There has been some speculation in the market that Boeing could re-produce the wide-body 767 to offer airlines a low-priced option in the event that a new aircraft proposed for the mid-market market suffers delays, or if Boeing decides not to go ahead with that project. «Bring back the passenger version of the 767, I just do not see it,» Randy Tinseth, vice president of commercial marketing at Boeing, told reporters in a teleconference.

The resumption of production would only act as a bridge to the NMA and would not provide the airlines with a plane with the engines and economy of the next generation that they are looking for.

Tinseth says today that potential customers for the NMA, which aims to replace the old 757 and 767 fleets, tell Boeing that they are happy to expect an entry into service as late as 2025.

The NMA has capacity for 220-270 passengers and has a range of around 5,000nm, he says. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have expressed interest in the NMA, and Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian would have informed pilots in February that the airline would like to launch the new aircraft. The three US operators operated a combined total of 238 757 and 153 767 with an average age of 20.1 years and 20.4 years, respectively, according to Flightfleets Analzyer.

Boeing faces competition from Airbus for some of the 757 and 767 replacement markets. The European owner will deliver its first A321LR this year targeting some 757 ocean liners and airlines, including American and United, are considering the A330-800neo replace its 767 fleets. A \ W

Copa Airlines busca contratar 250 pilotos

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Copa Airlines seeks to hire 250 pilots

Resultado de imagen para copa airlines logoCopa Airlines will look for new first officers in Mexico

Copa Airlines will hold an employment fair in Mexico City on March 7 to look for new first officers (co-pilots), the company reported Friday. Copa sources said that the job fair is part of the airline’s strategy to increase its workforce this year by 18 percent compared to 2016. The event, explained the same sources, will be held at a hotel in the capital Mexican and those interested must be over 21 years of age, have more than a thousand hours of flight in fixed-wing aircraft and commercial licenses with instrument and multi-engine ratings, among other requirements.

The executive president of Copa, Pedro Heilbron, announced on January 29 that the airline plans to create 800 new jobs this year, of which more than 130 will be pilots. Copa Airlines employed a total of 8,953 and 9,204 people in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and expects to reach 10,052 workers this year, the executive said at the time.

The company also increased the supply of seats up to 16.7 million, 9 percent more than in 2016. Copa Airlines, one of the most important in Latin America and member since 2012 of Star Alliance, transported in 2017 a total of 13, 5 million people, which represents an increase of 7.1 percent over the internal year.

Copa Airlines is considered the most punctual airline in Latin America by the US consultancy FlightStats and the fourth most punctual airline in the world by the British Official Airline Guide (OAG).

Copa Airlines interest in the MNA

Boeing had announced at the last Le Bourget Paris Air Show 2017, an advance of a new commercial mid-range aircraft known as the New Midsize Airplane (NMA) that would have a section of nose and wings that resemble the 787 Dreamliner, although possibly with a narrower fuselage and with the one he defined for the first time as a hybrid cross section. The NMA would have the capacity to transport between 200 and 270 passengers with a range of 5 thousand nautical miles (9,260 kilometers). According to sources close to the project, Boeing will decide on the launch of this aircraft this year 2018.

The Panamanian Copa Airlines became the first Latin American airline to show interest in the New Midsize Airplane (NMA) of Boeing, an aircraft that must be presented this year by the US manufacturer. The information was disclosed by the airline’s manager during an interview with FlightGlobal.

According to Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Holdings, which administers Copa and AeroRepública (Wingo), the Panamanian interest in the New Midsize is significant, since the airline was always composed of narrow fuselages. However, according to him, a wider, more cost-efficient fuselage could convince Copa to change its ‘opinion’.

For Copa Airlines, the current wide-body aircraft do not make sense in the view of the carrier, but this new aircraft, if it offers a greater range and is less expensive and easier to operate compared to the Airbus A330 or the Boeing 787. The new Boeing aircraft would offer more capacity for its current long distance destinations from Panama such as Buenos Aires and Los Angeles.

The Panamanian airline would show great interest in the new development of the MNA if the US manufacturer can project a wide-body aircraft that can be as competitive in costs as the Boeing 737 MAX.

The current Copa Airlines fleet consists of Boeing 737-700 / 800 Next Generation and Embraer E190. The agreement signed by the Mexican company and Boeing three years ago was valued at US $ 6,600 million for the purchase of 71 units of the Boeing 737-8 / 9 MAX for the modernization of its fleet. And in the latest edition of the Paris Air Show 2017, has converted fifteen units of this order for the largest variant, the Boeing 737-10 MAX. A \ W
