Norwegian Air will incorporate transpolar route

Norwegian Air Argentina will link Buenos Aires with the city of Perth in Australia

Norwegian Air Argentina will join the famous transpolar route after obtaining the approval of the Government of Argentina to unite Buenos Aires with the city of Perth, in Western Australia. The curiosity of this route is that it will cross Antarctica to make a shorter route. He requested the rights to also operate the route to Singapore.

Aerolineas Argentinas was a precursor in transpolar flights when passing through Antarctica to join Buenos Aires-Sidney, but left the route in 2014. At present, the only airline that connects Argentina with Oceania is Air New Zealand, which connects Buenos Aires with Auckland .

The transpolar flight between Buenos Aires and Perth could demand less than 15 hours and position Perth as a great connecting destination for international passengers between Asia and Latin America. The new route could be really revolutionary for both Argentina and Australia.

Although the Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA registered a net loss in 2017 of US $ 30.77 million, compared to profits of US $ 16.8 million obtained in the previous year of 2016, at the address They are confident of improving the numbers, because they attribute it to the heavy investment that they are carrying out in several sectors of the aviation industry, such as the modernization of the fleets, investments in Argentina and Brazil.

Avianca inicia procesos contra pilotos

AW | 2018 03 01 00:55 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Avianca initiates disciplinary proceedings against pilots

Avianca dismisses 44 pilots for participation in the national strike

Avianca has initiated disciplinary proceedings against pilots for national strike in 2017. Pilots seek lifeguards from the Ombudsman in disciplinary hearings of Avianca. The Colombian airline has reported that some 49 pilots were dismissed and 20 suspended

The airline Avianca reported that 28 hearings were held on Wednesday for the illegal strike last year, which left 14 terminations of work contracts with just cause and 14 suspensions. This figure is added to the 20 pilots dismissed last Monday, when the disciplinary proceedings began, and at 15 of the day on Tuesday, adding a total of 49 aviators where the company ended its employment contract with just cause in the first three days of hearings. The total of pilots suspended for their participation in the strike carried out between September and November 2017, with a duration of 51 days, amounted to 20, after the 3 aviators on Monday and 3 on Tuesday, in addition to the 14 sanctioned this Wednesday by the company.

The company reported that the Ombudsman’s Office has been present as a witness in ten disciplinary proceedings between Tuesday and Wednesday, participating in all the proceedings in which the entity requested to enter, in order to guarantee due process. Among those dismissed is Captain Jaime Hernandez, President of the Colombian Association of Civil Aviators (ACDAC), which groups 700 of the 1,388 pilots of the airline.

The 44 dismissed are part of a group of 240 pilots who the company opened disciplinary process for their participation in the strike, said the ACDAC, which led the cessation of activities.

Syndicate posture and pilots

According to the union, which called for a strike to demand economic improvements and aviation security, the company initiated the 240 disciplinary proceedings on Monday and will end on March 6. As a result of these procedures, in addition to the dismissals, so far the airline has suspended seven aviators, three more are awaiting a decision, two resigned, one did not appear and another was postponed, he added.

«The charges formulated to the pilots correspond to their active participation in the cessation of activities and the non-presentation to the schedules assigned during the cessation», ACDAC said in a statement.

The employees claim lack of guarantees for their defense, violations of labor regulations by Avianca and previous labor agreements between the parties.

The Colombian Association of Civil Aviators called on the Ombudsman to strengthen the accompaniments of the entity in disciplinary proceedings that are brought against him, after noting that there are many irregularities that are being committed by Avianca.

The pilots of ACDAC assure that the dynamics on the part of the legal team of Avianca is the same, since it does not allow them to defend themselves as it should, while reiterating that these processes will become a «labor massacre».

Avianca’s posture

Avianca made the determination to break the employment relationship with these aviators after a high court gave the reason in a lawsuit. The airline filed the appeal considering that the strike was illegal because it paralyzed an essential public service, such as air transport, protected by Colombian regulations. The president of the airline, Germán Efromovich, had warned in September that if the strike were declared illegal, he would fire all workers who did not show up for work.

The pilot stoppage, started on September 20 and ended on November 9, 2017, affected 420,000 users of the airline. The hearings will be held until next March 6. They are expected to cite about 240 aviators who were unemployed last year, of whom, according to ACDAC, Avianca expects to lay off more than 140. The dismissed pilots will have eight days to present their appeal against the processes of the Avianca airline. A \ W

Privatización ATC sin apoyo congresistas

Resultado de imagen para air traffic control

AW | 2018 02 28 12:20 | AIR TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

ATC privatization without support from US congressmen

The plan to privatize the Air Traffic Control of the United States has no support from Congress

The chairman of the Infrastructure and Transportation Committee of the US House of Representatives said on Tuesday that there is not enough support in Congress to move forward with a plan endorsed by President Donald Trump to privatize the Air Traffic Control System (ATC).

In the political arena, the debate over the reform of airspace control in the United States is very close. The Democratic Party of the Democrats argued that it would hand over control of a key asset to special interests and large airlines, and some Republicans opposed it.

Republican Representative Bill Shuster said in a statement that «the provisions of the air traffic control reform did not reach the obvious level of support needed to pass Congress». Shuster pledged to work with the Senate to advance legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration, which expires at the end of March. Without authorization, the FAA could not collect aviation taxes and many of its employees would have to be fired.

In June 2017, US President Donald Trump unveiled a plan to privatize air traffic control in what he said would modernize the system and reduce flight costs. Under the proposal, air traffic control would be separated from the FAA and placed under the supervision of a nonprofit corporation. The FAA spends almost U$S 10 billion a year on air traffic control largely funded through passenger user fees, and has spent more than U$S 7.5 billion on next-generation air traffic control reforms in the past years. Trump has said that the current air traffic reform efforts have failed and were a «total waste of money».

On Tuesday, the Aircraft Pilots and Owners Association, along with nearly 250 general aviation organizations, state and local aviation officials, unions, consumer groups and airports said they had sent a letter to congressional leaders vowing to oppose any effort to privatize air traffic control. United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, all represented by the Airlines for America lobby, backed the plan.

Opponents said the US system is so large that privatization would not save money and raise ticket costs and could create a national security risk. Opponents also say that technological updates will be diverted while the private entity was created, which could add years to the awarding of contracts. A \ W

FAA evalúa regulaciones sobre asientos

Resultado de imagen para regulation airline seats

AW | 2018 02 28 12:05 | AVIATION SAFETY

The FAA evaluates regulations on airline seats

The Federal Aviation Administration would intervene to determine how much space it deserves when flying on airlines

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is studying the space between seats on the airlines. The regulatory body will establish guidelines to determine the minimum dimensions that airlines can offer.

The FAA is ready to announce the results of its revision of the size of the seats and the space for the legs in the near future. That revision could prevent airlines from further reducing the space available to passengers as carriers add some additional seats on board.

The review, which followed a judge’s order in July 2017, discusses the security implications of tighter seats. The issue has become so controversial that lawmakers have introduced bills to prevent airlines from further reducing space for seats and legs, but so far have not made much progress.

The claim is based on the justice of the United States in the case called «the Case of the Incredible Shrinking Airline Seat», lies in the demand for more comfortable seats that generate more space and benefits for health. The US Justice in a ruling of July 2017 has ordered the FAA to review the seats and legroom.

standing-seats.jpg

The FAA said it would soon announce its decision, but did not specify when. The case was due to a nonprofit group, Flyers Rights, asking the FAA for rules to prevent the passenger squeeze from continuing.

The FAA is considered a security agency. When the FAA said safety, not seat size, was their priority, Flyers Rights took the agency to court. The group said that the inclination of the seat, the distance between its seat and the one directly in front of you, has decreased from an average of 35 inches to 31 inches, and in some airlines it has been reduced to 28 inches. He said that the width of a seat has been reduced from approximately 18.5 inches to 17 inches, even when many people’s funds have widened.

The decision on a solution for tight seats must come from the courts and the US Congress. «There is no alternative because airlines are not going to set a reasonable standard», said Brent D. Bowen, dean of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona, who for 28 years has issued the ratings on Airline Quality Rating.

Fund investor Steve Cohen has pushed for an amendment through the House Transportation Committee that would require the FAA to set seat sizes. «It is clear that the FAA should review the size of the seats and the distances between the rows of seats», said Cohen.

For airlines it is a delicate balance between economy and comfort, for governments and regulatory bodies it is a matter of safety and health. A balance that should be regulated by the competent bodies for the benefit of consumers. A \ W

Boeing participaría en Embraer

AW | 2018 02 26 16:14 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing would participate in Embraer

The Boeing Company would be closer to formalizing a commercial alliance with Embraer S.A.

The Boeing Company requested the approval of the Government of Brazil for a partnership with Embraer that would create a new firm focused on commercial aviation, excluding the Embraer defense unit. The American giant would have a 51% stake in a joint venture that is currently being negotiated with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer.

Boeing accepted the requirement of the Brazilian government that the US company does not have more than a 51% controlling stake. The Boeing proposal would give it an 80% to 90% stake in a new regional commercial aircraft business with a partnership with Embraer.

EMBRAER_NOVEMBER-2017_Book-RI-2-e1515807417667.jpg

Embraer is the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world and the leader in the regional jet market of 70 to 130 seats. With the proposed agreement, Boeing would be the market leader in smaller passenger aircraft, creating tougher competition for the CSeries aircraft program designed by Bombardier Inc. backed by its European rival Airbus SE.

Boeing wants to win a market snatched by the alliance Bombardier-Airbus after the dispute over tariffs imposed by the United States Government. The loss of Boeing before the courts has made it necessary to forge a commercial alliance with Embraer to counteract the advance of a complete line of products that Airbus will offer in the future.

Boeing-Embraer Alliance

Boeing’s initial plan to buy Embraer was rejected by the Brazilian government because it did not want a foreign company to control its defense unit for strategic security reasons.

The Brazilian government would maintain a gold stake in Embraer, a former state-owned company, which gives it veto power over strategic decisions, including Boeing’s push for an agreement.

On Thursday, Brazil’s defense minister, Raul Jungmann, told reporters that Boeing had understood Brazil’s refusal to give up control of Embraer. He said negotiations on the creation of a third company were going well. A \ W

Valonia amenaza prohibir Belgocontrol

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Wallonia threatens to ban Belgocontrol

Belgocontrol offers contracted air traffic controllers as compensation

Wallonia’s Airport Minister, Jean-Luc Crucke, is looking for alternative solutions for air traffic control, he wrote in a letter to Belgocontrol. Incidents should be avoided in the future. Despite the threats, Belgocontrol says investments are being planned to improve airports.

The Minister of Airports of Wallonia, Jean-Luc Crucke, sent a letter to the CEO of Belgocontrol, Johan Decuyper. In that letter, Crucke said he was «interested in alternative solutions for air traffic control at regional airports» on the other side of the country. The reason would be several incidents that affected the Charleroi airport.

Incidents

The letter refers to the latest incidents that took place in Charleroi. A first one, at the end of the year, had consequences for the correct operation of the flight. A second, quite recent, on February 16 and 17 has influenced the organization of 11 flights to Charleroi.

«The reputation of the Charleroi airport and its institution is at stake and, as Minister of Wallonia responsible for airports, I can not accept that such a situation will happen again», Crucke wrote.

The minister’s cabinet ensures that there will be no threat in the air. «It’s more than just a clue, we’ve started to study alternative solutions». In particular, the government observes that with the evolution of technology, there are tools that make it possible to operate devices remotely, for example.

In the echo, Belgocontrol emphasizes the scope of the incidents that have been announced. «There were two or three restrictions that affected recreational aviation and training flights because we were facing diseases that could not be replaced in time in the control tower», the spokesman said.

Hire air traffic controllers

The newspaper echoes the observations of observers who question the motivation of Belgocontrol. The operator refutes this argument and points out that the investments are planned to support the development of the Walloon airports. Belgocontrol also announces that it will soon launch a specific hiring campaign to hire French air traffic controllers that will expand the workforce at Liège and Charleroi airports. The spokesman said that the latter belongs to «the best European airports in terms of the punctuality of his plane». A \ W
