Latam Argentina cierre definitivo

Latam Argentina definitive closure

Latam Airlines Argentina formally closes its operation in Argentina

Latam Airlines Argentina has officially ended its operations in the country. Latam Airlines Group has concluded a phase of services in Argentina after the departure of Lan Argentina S.A. as a subsidiary of the Chilean-Brazilian group. Despite the erroneous reading of many government officials who back in June 2020 interpreted that the exit decision was pressure to achieve better market conditions, in the company the decision has never been questioned.

On June 17, 2020, the company announced that it would stop operating in the domestic market and that it would disarm the group’s local subsidiary. On Friday 02/05 the company communicated that it had terminated the voluntary retirement program for employees and closed its doors. «An agreement was closed with just over 1,500 employees of the 1,715 that the company had in the country. 193 workers did not accept the company’s offer. What follows depends on the judicial path taken by the residual of what was Lan Argentina», said a source close to the company. The airline informed the unions and each of the 193 who did not sign an agreement that the employment relationship was terminated due to the definitive closure of the local operation. «Lan Argentina S.A. is aware of the impact of this painful but inevitable process and recognizes the effort and commitment of all its collaborators throughout these years», states the Latam Argentina statement.

«The impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the Argentine subsidiary and the difficulty of generating the multiple agreements necessary to face the current situation configured an extremely complex scenario, where it was not possible to visualize a viable and sustainable project over time , causing Lan Argentina to stop flying to and from 12 domestic destinations after 15 years of uninterrupted operation. However, the four international destinations that the company covered to the United States, Brazil, Chile and Peru continue to be operated by the other subsidiaries of the group», communicated the company.

«The hangars that the company had at Jorge Newbery Airport and all commercial spaces in airports throughout the country have already been returned. Office space has also been reduced. And the end of relations with various suppliers has been agreed. Latam Peru, Brazil and Chile, which operate international destinations, left a support of about 300 employees for check-in, commercial and some administration tasks. That’s all. Fulfilling the commitments assumed with its customers, the company continues to manage the return of domestic tickets, while international flights will be made by the other subsidiaries of the group», ends the company’s statement.

Litigation for A320

Latam_7320200

Currently, the ex-Latam Airlines Argentina continues to own six Airbus A320-200CEOs positioned at Aeroparque, unable to take off due to the works being carried out at the airport. Surely, they will become hostage to negotiations with employees who did not enter voluntary retirement.

«The planes are not from Lan Argentina and have to be returned to the owner company», they say in the company. It is possible that some protection will leave them on the ground and a political and union decision could unblock negotiations with former employees who have not agreed with the airline.

Monopoly concentration

The political stratagem had been uncovered, the result of a far from disguised persecution by both Kirchnerist governments to eliminate the competition. The National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) reported that the flag carrier had 80% of the domestic market in January 2021, while its interannual capacity was 59% of the cabotage segment, shared with Latam Airlines Argentina (16%). Flybondi (9%), Norwegian Air (7%) and Andes Líneas Aéreas (1%). After the post-pandemic period, entering 2021 the market has changed abruptly, concentrating more than 80% in Aerolíneas Argentinas, while Jetsmart Argentina owns 11% and Flybondi 7%. Although the cabotage market has fallen by 78% percent in one year, the monopoly concentration will never favor air transport users, including Aerolíneas Argentinas itself, which always claims to be a company with a philosophy of work of deficit ballast.

The Argentine low-cost Flybondi Líneas Aéreas has announced the upcoming reinstatement of its second Boeing 737-800 aircraft with LV-HKN registration, which has been in Texas, United States since August 2020. The aircraft that continues in the company’s fleet that will return to Argentina between February 15 and 20, 2021 to additionally reactivate the network of domestic routes that the airline currently connects. The airline has continued with the ownership of the aircraft, although the lessor has negotiated its grounding. «The decision was part of the negotiation with the lessor that was carried out, in order to lower the fixed and leasing costs while the restrictions on flights were extended. Flybondi never ceased to have operational control of the aircraft. otherwise, he would have lost his registration», they have communicated from Flybondi.

Flybondi’s pre-pandemic fleet consisted of five Boeing 737-800s. Following the nine-month restrictions on air travel, the airline has returned three aircraft, with the intention of reducing its cost structure while maintaining its operation on the ground. The transition period of the pandemic has been operating with a single Boeing 737-800 LV-HFR aircraft.

Reactivation

In this post-pandemic recovery stage, the two aircraft will supply the current operation according to demand. «Today we are aiming, fundamentally, at the cabotage market. The priority is to rearm ourselves, for later, when the conditions are given, to evaluate the possibility of incorporating more routes. Perhaps, in the future, there will be a rethinking of the number of frequencies, to Due to the fact that they add two aircraft again», they expressed from the low cost company. On January 26, 2018, Flybondi made its first commercial flight, linking Córdoba with Iguazú. According to data from the airline, which directly employs 533 workers, it managed to get more than 540,000 people to fly by plane for the first time and reached a total of 2,706,156 million passengers transported to their domestic and international destinations during these three years.

Despite forecasts at the beginning of the high season anticipating a pessimistic summer for airlines, Flybondi finished first in terms of occupancy levels in the domestic market. In January 2021, low-cost flights registered an occupancy level of 88%, followed by Aerolíneas Argentinas with 82% and JetSmart Airlines Argentina with 60%, according to statistical data from the National Civil Aviation Administration ( ANAC).

«It has been almost two months since we resumed flights, after their restart after Covid-19. In the domestic market, all the cabotage destinations that we operated a year ago are already active, with the exception of the Rosario-Salta and Rosario-Iguazú routes, which, for the moment, are not in operation. Since then, more than 31,000 people have already traveled with a punctuality that exceeded 85%. We reaffirm our commitment in the process of recovery of operational capacity, to provide better connectivity to the provinces and greater options for passengers», have expressed from the company.

Perspectives

The plans of the budget airline Flybondi are subject to the evolution of travel demand in the coming months, depending on the progress of the epidemiological situation. Also, in order to continue with its fleet recovery plan, the company will incorporate a third aircraft during the second quarter (2Q2021), in view of the recovery expectations of the sector. By then, it hopes to reactivate interprovincial routes, which are temporarily not operational, to which international destinations would be added in the second semester, also suspended since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

Air Canada Rouge suspende vuelos

AW | 2021 02 05 10:50 | AIRLINES

Air Europa accumulates embargo notices

Consequences of clashes with the SEPI

Air Europa continues without solving its financial problems due to its disputes with Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) and is accumulating embargo notices for its aircraft. SEPI has blocked a check for € 100 million. The airline of the Globalia group spends around € 243 million per year for the rental of 42 aircraft to leasing companies, in addition to another € 180 million in provisions to pay for aircraft repairs. The company operates a total of 66 aircraft, most of the Boeing line. Following the global health crisis and restrictions on flights, the company has decided to return a dozen aircraft in 2020 due to liquidity problems and the reduction in air activity.

Air Europa faces this Friday 02/05 a key Board of Directors to elect the new CEO of the company after the rescue of SEPI. The Hidalgo family opposes that the first manager of the airline is Juan Manuel Bujía, ex-Iberia, and because of this blockade, SEPI has frozen the payment of € 100 million to the airline.

Acreedores impugnan oferta Norwegian

AW | 2021 02 05 10:10 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Acreedores reclaman ante Tribunal por leasing aeronaves

Norwwegian_Isologotype

Creditors challenge Norwegian offer

Creditors claim in court for aircraft leasing

Creditors of air carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA are challenging the airline’s offer to return more than thirty planes to suppliers, a key part of plans to rescue the group. Norwegian Air and its Irish subsidiaries, Arctic Aviation Assets, Norwegian Air International, Drammensfjorden Leasing and Lysakerfjorden Leasing, are under the protection of the High Court of Ireland from creditors, while examiner Kieran Wallace of the Dutch company KPMG works against the clock on a restructuring plan for the Scandinavian airline.

The five companies have asked the Court to repudiate the leasors’ action for the leases of more than 36 aircraft, allowing them to return the aircraft to the lessors, in order to restructure their fleet as part of the proposals to keep Norwegian Air in the airline business. Lawyers for several landlords complained on Thursday 04/02 that they had not had enough time to address the concerns raised by the companies’ requests to the Court, including possible complications arising from the fact that some agreements were governed by English law.

The leasing of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which has supplied 10 aircraft to Norwegian Air, argued that the companies’ requests lacked information and analysis to enable the Tribunal to assess how onerous the leases were. KPMG Senior Counsel, Paul Sreenan, noted that the exam was on the 79th of 100th, so it is scheduled to end in three weeks.

Norwegian Air wants to reduce its fleet by more than half to 68 out of 140, allowing it to remove the long-haul network to focus on flying in Europe. The Irish subsidiary, Torskefjorden Leasing, which leased 24 aircraft and was part of the review, is in liquidation and is therefore no longer part of the High Court proceedings. The five companies that remain under review are leasing 48 aircraft, including the 36 involved in the request to terminate those agreements. The repudiation implies that the company terminates leases, but paying creditors involved a settlement based on the amount owed on the date the company entered examination, and a second settlement covering liabilities for the examiner’s own period. The lessors would get the same dividend as everyone else on the difference between the total amount of the company paid in the settlements and the total amount owed. Judge Michael Quinn proposed to allow until Friday, February 12, 2021, that creditors respond to requests from companies. The matter must return to the Court on Monday 02/15.

On Thursday 02/04, Norwegian and its subsidiaries petitioned the Court to repudiate contracts with various suppliers, including the Irish company, In Flight Audio, fuel businesses, catering and US airports such as Boston/Logan Airport.

Brian Kennedy, the Senior Counsel for the Norwegian group companies has indicated that the termination of the contracts would go back to the time the group emerged from the examination. Judge Michael Quinn said he would rule on those undisputed requests next week.

AW | 2021 02 05 09:27 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Government Argentina injected US$ 527 million in Aerolíneas

The Government of the Argentine Republic has reported expenses on the Aerolíneas Group carrier for the 2020 financial year about US $ 527 million, allowing an increase in expenses since 2015, according to data provided by the airline Aerolíneas Argentinas. After the introduction of the pandemic and the drastic changes in the suppression of flights since March 2020, the restructuring of the group has had as a leading role the synergy of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral Líneas Aéreas, suppressing the regional airline in favor of the flag company.

The commercial aviation market has also undergone changes, when in the pre-pandemic Aerolíneas and Austral had 63% of the domestic market share, but after the introduction of new operators with the previous Government, both companies lost 11% of the share of market against private companies such as Latam Airlines Argentina, JetSmart Airlines Argentina, Flybondi Líneas Aéreas, Norwegian Air Argentina and Andes Lineas Aereas. But the global air transport crisis has led several airlines to restructure, adapt, or die trying.

Government and Aerolíneas

Between 2018 and 2019, the airline had a total loss of AR $ 58.73 billion Argentine pesos, an equivalent to US$ 670 million. Currently the company Aerolíneas Argentinas has yet to publish the financial results for the 2020 financial year, which generates a lot of uncertainty about the accumulated deficit. The Aerolíneas statement states that the airline has decreased by 97% of its market in the face of the consequences of the pandemic, allowing a new delay of five years to be projected to be able to recover the pre-pandemic indexes and to be able to reach superhabit, a difficult task ahead. Meanwhile, the Argentine government has invested US$ 527 million between January and November 2020.

Aerial perspectives

The Argentine Republic continues to swing in commercial air policies with a distant prospect of a complete recovery. The Government of Argentina is immersed in a vicious cycle of expenses at Aerolíneas Argentinas, which after the announcement of restructuring, by 2021 will have to continue facing current expenses and a drag deficit.

The government’s assistance in matters of commercial air policies continues to unbalance the country’s competitiveness and free market, allowing it to assist a historically deficient company that conditions the progress of Argentina’s free air market. While other countries such as Brazil, which despite the current global crisis, continues to adapt and improve their policies with new airlines and more connections, Argentina continues to have a pending matter, or rather, a subject that has been lost.

OACI solicita informes bloqueos a Irán

AW | 2021 02 04 13:22 | GOVERNMENT / INDUSTRY / AIRLINES

Bloqueos comerciales a industria aviación en Irán

Iran Air_Isologotype

ICAO requests reports of blockades from Iran

Commercial blockades to aviation industry in Iran

The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran (ICAO) has issued respective reports about the contracts suspended by the Iranian airline Iran Air after the blockades imposed by the United States for the acquisition of aeronautical material. The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting service (IRIB) reported on February 3, 2021 that ICAO CEO Touraj Dehqani Zanganeh wrote to determine Boeing’s final word on the fate of the grand order, wondering if he could be revived after the change of government in the United States.

ICAO has written to The Boeing Company to inquire about the US$ 16,500 million US flag carrier agreement as part of the contract with Iran Air made in December 2016 for the purchase of eighty aircraft to help renew its aging airline fleet. The deal was derailed by the heavy sanctions then-US President Donald Trump introduced against the Islamic Republic of Iran since May 2018, but the Boeing company recently announced that it had found new customers for the planes it hoped to deliver to IranAir.

Prior to the imposition of sanctions by the Trump Administration, Iran Air in 2016 also placed orders with Airbus Group for the supply of 118 aircraft, with 73 wide-body aircraft and 45 narrow-body aircraft. The contract included A320CEO (21) and A320NEO (24). It has also placed orders with the French-Italian factory ATR Aircraft for the delivery of ATR-72 (20). Although Airbus and ATR orders were also blocked by sanctions, Airbus Group’s Director of Public Relations said on the sidelines of the Paris Air Show in June 2019 that Airbus orders had not been canceled and the wish was that these orders and other orders placed by Iranian airlines were fulfilled once US sanctions did not prevent deliveries.

«Iran’s contract with Airbus and ATR has been suspended. Regarding the contract that we have with Boeing, I have recently written a letter to clarify its fate. There is definitely a possibility that the ATR and Airbus contracts will be reactivated. If one occurs. opening, they will have to go back to contracts», said ICAO CEO Touraj Dehqani Zanganeh.

Iran’s airlines currently have 162 aircraft in their civil aviation fleets, but they urgently need to renovate their air park to continue providing efficiency and safety. Behind the sanctions imposed by the United States, the change of administration could bring about a change in the perspectives of the airlines, but the Islamic Republic of Iran will have to carry out full compliance with the 2016 nuclear agreement to maintain its nuclear development program of a fully natural nature. civil and clear the blockades imposed to reactivate the orders of commercial airplanes.
