Delta improves Skywise platform

Delta Air Lines improves Skywise open data platform

Delta Air Lines partnered with Airbus to improve Skywise that through the agreement 400 aircraft from the Delta fleet will be connected to Skywise technology. Delta Air Lines has signed a multi-year contract with Airbus to continue using the Skywise open data platform and related predictive maintenance services. The airline will expand the use of its A320 and A330 fleets, which comprise around 400 aircraft, to track and analyze their operations and performance data and assess the probabilities of failure to anticipate maintenance tasks.

Delta was one of the airlines involved in the development of Skywise’s Predictive Maintenance by co-designing, testing and making recommendations for improvement on some of its key features. «Skywise is the latest example of our great partnership with Airbus. Delta people are continually focused on improving the experience for customers, and this new tool will allow them to provide an exceptional and reliable experience», said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta.

«I am extremely proud to see our long-standing partner Delta Air Lines, one of the world’s leading airlines, join the Skywise platform. Skywise is driving the aviation industry to new levels of productivity and efficiency, and really It is becoming an industry flagship and I want to thank Delta for its confidence», said Tom Enders, CEO of Airbus.

Skywise was developed to allow Airbus, airlines, equipment manufacturers and maintenance operators to access large amounts of operational and aircraft performance data and identify areas for improvement. Skywise can collect and track many thousands of data parameters on airplanes in operation.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

IndiGo studies orders of widebodies

IndiGo plans orders for large aircraft to Airbus and Boeing

The Indian airline IndiGo has contacted the largest aircraft manufacturers to align orders of widebodies aircraft. IndiGo has said that it plans to incorporate large aircraft to Airbus and Boeing in the medium term, but the market scenario of difficult conditions in the short term means that the low cost airline is cautious about the large order it wishes to entrust.

The low cost airline that owns InterGlobe Aviation, faces fierce competition in the Indian market, which is so sensitive to prices, where airlines are struggling to remain profitable despite covering 90% of their seats and a demand that It grows continuously.

International market study

«The wide-body aircraft are an aspiration, we have talked to the manufacturers, we are studying the A330NEO and the Boeing 787», said Willy Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer. IndiGo, India’s largest low-cost carrier by market share, announced direct flights, starting Monday from two cities in southern India, Kochi and Kozhikode, to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. In the Gulf, the airline has direct flights to Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, as well as to Doha and Muscat. Flights to Kuwait will be launched this week, to Saudi Arabia in November and to Hong Kong in December, Boulter said.

In early 2019, IndiGo plans to start flights to London with an Airbus A321 aircraft that stops at a midpoint that has not yet been selected, he said. Other international destinations for the launch include Kuala Lumpur and Phuket, Thailand, in November.

IndiGo is working closely with the government of India to take advantage of the opportunities of bilateral agreements where travel rights will be available to other markets and has requested liberty rights to fly in Europe and Asia.

IndiGo has a fleet of 192 aircraft and more than 400 aircraft in order. The first batch of Airbus A321NEO aircraft with 222 seats will be delivered next November 2018. A \ W

Los asientos y el desafío de volar

Resultado de imagen para passengers fat airlines

AW | 2018 10 15 05:44 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The seats and the challenge of flying

The seat industry are increasingly reduced

Americans tend to weigh more and airline seats tend to shrink. So confrontations between passengers of large airlines and their fellow travelers are inevitable.

The average American man weighs 15 pounds more than 20 years ago, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The average American woman weighs 16.2 pounds more. The average passage of the seats, an approximate measure of legroom, has dropped from 35 inches in the 1970s to about 31 inches today. And the average width has been reduced from 18 inches to around 16.5 inches. Airlines are more sensitive than ever to territorial skirmishes. But air travelers have also developed their own tricks. They could avoid being squeezed on your next trip.

Matter of weight

What do airlines do with large passengers? The passengers of large airlines are divided into two broad categories. Some travelers do not fit in the seats due to their hip size. Others are too tall to enter a economy-class seat with limited legroom. Those that generate the most complaints, perhaps unfairly, are those that extend to the next seat. That’s what happened to Sam Cristol, 73 years old. He found himself sitting next to a 6-foot 7,500-pound passenger on a JetBlue flight of 05:50 hours from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco. Cristol, is a food broker from Lake Worth, Florida. «The passenger next to me occupied half of my seat, my other half was in the aisle, while I had to hold on to the seat in front of me». Cristol complained to JetBlue, who apologized for the inconvenience. I checked with JetBlue about his flight and offered him a $ 100 coupon for him and the lineman, which was an interesting solution. JetBlue offers seatbelt extenders for large airline passengers on its site, but otherwise does not say anything about its size passenger policy. Other airlines require large travelers to buy two seats.

The crew members try to fix these confrontations on board before takeoff. For example, a flight attendant would have tried to seat a passenger like Cristol again. But unfortunately, it was a completely complete flight. He could also have asked to swap seats with a smaller passenger, but that was not an option either.

What do the passengers do with respect to the passengers of large airlines? A little kindness will probably take you away, says Casey Gardonio-Foat, owner of a small St. Louis business. «Have empathy for the greatest person», she says. «Remember, they are probably more uncomfortable than you, because of the reduction in airline seats and the bias and the routinely horrible treatment of the older people in American society».

Suzanne Dixon, a dietitian in Portland, Oregon, agrees that being nice can make the trip easier to survive. «When I’m sitting next to a large passenger, I greet them with a smile», she says. «No matter how much of a squeeze, a positive attitude and without prejudice is important».

An educated request can help, too. On the last flight of Stacy Caprio, her seatmate took charge of her armrest and invaded her personal space. «I asked him: ‘Could we, please, keep each of our arms in our own seats?'» Says Caprio, who works for a Canadian coupon website. «He growled, but then he obeyed, which made the flight so much more pleasant for me».

Ken Friedlander was so concerned about the passengers that they fall into the space of someone else who invented something to fix it. It is a partition called Create-A-Space (createaspace.net) that is pushed against your armrest, clearly delimiting your personal room. «I discovered that coming prepared with something that helps to share the armrest really makes a difference», he says. «Airlines have forced me to make this a part of good travel planning».

Jen Lowe shared one of the smartest techniques I’ve heard, although it’s not necessarily one I would recommend. She told me the story of a «super intrusive» seatmate on a recent flight who refused to move. A \ W

Reestructuración en Alitalia

AW | 2018 10 13 15:33 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

New management in Alitalia

Italy launches a new Alitalia with 15% state capital

The Government of the Republic of Italy proposed to transform its flagship airline Alitalia, managed by insolvency administrators from May 2017, into a new company in which the Ministry of Economy holds 15% of its capital and the rest is in the hands of the company Ferrovie dello Stato and a private partner.

The Vice President and Minister of Economic Development, Luigi Di Maio, explained that the idea that the Executive values is to create a new company, with an initial allocation of between 1,500 and 2,000 million euros. This new company would be owned 15% by the Ministry of Economy, following the model of the French airline Air France-KLM, in which the French State holds 14.3% of the capital. The rest would be controlled by Ferrovie dello Stato, 100% owned by the Italian State, and by another «important international industrial partner» private, which has not provided details.

Ferrovie dello Stato has advanced in a statement that this Friday has presented a proposal of interest for Alitalia, but has stressed that in this phase is not binding, but is necessary to better analyze the situation of the airline. It is the umpteenth idea that seeks to give a future to a company that was the flag carrier of Italy, but that for twenty years is a bottomless pit and a burden for the country, for the losses it generates.

Alitalia, without benefits since 2002, appealed to the State in May 2017 to avoid bankruptcy and it was managed by three insolvency administrators, who in Italy are called commissioners. In this time, these three managers have looked for a possible buyer of all or part of the business, and airlines such as the German Lufthansa or the British easyJet had shown public interest, although their offers did not go beyond. In this process, the Government of the Democratic Party lent the company 900 million euros to guarantee its operation, which the European Commission investigates to determine if it was an illegal aid and if it complies with the European regulations on support for companies in difficulties.

The new Executive, formed by the Five Star Movement and the League, refuse to sell it to a foreign company because they believe that it would be to sell this company. Di Maio has held a meeting with the unions on Friday and told the media that before October 31, 2018 there will be a proposal of binding interest, or at least serious and concrete. The new society should get rid of everything that has so far It has not worked and the workers will not be in danger of their jobs.

To relaunch the company, in addition to state participation, the Government needs to have a private partner to inject money, which according to the media could be the airlines China Eastern or Delta Airlines, although there is no official information about it. «I think Alitalia is an important company for the economy of the country», Di Maio has justified, and that is why the Government will work to keep it in Italian hands.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The financial situation of Jet Airways

The aviation builder Boeing is concerned about the financial situation of Jet Airways

Boeing analyzes the financial situation of the Indian airline Jet Airways due to the tariff levels in which Indian airlines operate. Dinesh Keskar, Senior Vice President of Sales in Asia Pacific and India at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said Friday that there are entities with large resources in the airline business that can sustain the increase in fuel prices, but some companies that operate with Working capital set aside daily, were cause for concern.

In 2Q2018, Jet Airways reported a net loss of Rs 1,323 crore and at June 30, 2018 had a gross debt of Rs 8,620 crore, of which Rs 1,968 crore was related to aircraft. The airline’s accumulated losses are at Rs 10,878 crore and it is currently working on a recovery plan to save Rs 2,000 crore for a couple of years through several initiatives that the board approved in August 2018. Even though the costs While airline operations have increased in recent months due to rising oil prices and the rupee’s depreciation, rates have not risen so much due to strong competition in the sector led mainly by the rapid addition of capacity by the the airlines in the national networks.

Jet Airways owns a fleet of 123 aircraft, basing its backbone on the Boeing 737, of which it owns the variants 737-700, 737-800, 737-900 and 737-900ER, representing its workhorse for short international operations. travel.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

KLM 99th Anniversaries

The Dutch airline celebrates 99 years of flying the skies of the world

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines turned 99 on 7 October 2018 and is the oldest airline in the world. The first KLM flight was on May 17, 1920, between London and Amsterdam and brought on board two British journalists and a load of newspapers. For this event he launched the traditional souvenirs of miniature houses inspired by the first store of the Dutch chain Douwe Egberts that for more than 50 years have been delivered to the passengers of Business Class, becoming coveted collectibles.

The Dutch airline has a total fleet of 160 aircraft, manufactured by Airbus and Boeing, among which the B737-800 and B737-700 models stand out. It owns six subsidiaries, besides flying 131 cities worldwide and 116 countries, it has 165 destinations plus two future ones, among which is Boston, United States.

The Dutch airline is associated with the French company Air France as part of the Skyteam alliance. It recently formalized a new code-sharing alliance with the airline Qantas Airways.

The fact that traditional cottages are so popular demonstrates a search result in the Marktplaats. The first Douwe Egbert porcelain shops are already being offered by the guests at the KLM anniversaries party. A big exception, because politics is and will continue to be: you only get a KLM house after a flight in the intercontinental business class. The countdown has begun until October 7, 2019. Then KLM is 100 years old and only then will it be known what the 100th of the Delft Blue House looks like. A \ W

KLM 99th Anniversaries

SAA Airways hacia la reestructuración

AW | 2018 10 10 10:16 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

SAA Airways towards restructuring

South African Airways flies towards profitability by 2021

The airline South African Airways (SAA) has been struggling with funding problems, but has implemented a plan to reduce costs and restrict operations, and substantial progress is being made.

South African Airways Executive Chairman Vuyani Jarana, who spoke at a press conference in New York City on Thursday, said he is «comfortable with what we are today, that we are on the road. We have a plan that is clear, a clear path to profitability, we are constantly working to transform the airline, it is not an easy task, it is a massive transformation, but what is important, in the initial evaluation , is that SAA is still a very good airline in terms of operations, security and business processes, but obviously, what we have to face is the commercial logic to take the airline to profitability».

Double mission of SAA

South African Airways has a dual mission as an airline in South Africa. Profitability is not your first priority. It is responsible for providing the transport that allows the economic activity necessary for the country. Although profit is not the essential core of the airline’s mission, it is still important, since South Africa, like all governments, is struggling with fiscal problems. If SAA wants to achieve profitability, it must be in addition to fulfilling its main mission. The new CEO was presented in November 2017 to implement plans to achieve profitability without losing sight of the main objectives of the airline. «We have a very important role not only in South Africa, but also in the African continent in terms of business development, economic growth and employment and certainly of the tourism sector», said Todd M. Neuman, Executive Vice President for North America in the South. African Airways.

Restructuring plan

The cost reduction plan includes a variety of components, such as focusing on the South African domestic market to make it profitable; promoting West African countries to the United States market; and review of the on-board experience based on the close supervision of customer comments. But, the essential underlying principle of the change plan is to reduce costs and improve the company’s balance sheet, which will provide the economic strength to invest in business growth.

The cost reduction can be applied to all levels of the business. For example, the airline previously had two direct flights to London every day and lost money on both flights. Under Jarana, it has been reduced to a nonstop newspaper to London. The South African airline is applying problem solving skills to the supply chain to ensure that the parts the airline needs are purchased at the lowest possible price. In addition, cost reduction will not require layoffs. The experience of the staff is essential to the success of the airline. But, so is responsibility.

The airline is closely watching the US market, which offers some of its best growth opportunities. «We want to be part of that growth, work closely with South African Tourism and other partners in the US In our plan, the United States is critical, we are working on the best way to serve the US market. they will be important for that market, especially for the south and west of Africa. What we do must be informed by the market, what the customers want, the level of competition in all the markets where we operate, that motivates us and that informs how we respond That is the concept that is driving SAA today».

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

First Boeing 787-9 Air Tahiti Nui

Air Tahiti Nui receives first Boeing 787-9

Boeing and Air Tahiti Nui celebrated the delivery of the first Boeing 787-9 of the airline, through an ALC lease contract. Tahitian airline Air Tahiti Nui will fly the largest Boeing 787-9 on routes from the South Pacific to Europe and Asia. This is the first Boeing aircraft to join the Tahiti airline, which plans to use the longer-range Dreamliner to replace the old A340s and connect its base of operations in the South Pacific with global capitals such as Paris, Tokyo and Los Angeles.

Air Tahiti Nui joins other operators in the Pacific that operate long distance routes to switch to the super efficient and long-range 787-9. The plane can fly up to 7,635 nautical miles (14,140 km), while reducing fuel use and emissions by 20 to 25 percent compared to older aircraft.

Air Tahiti Nui configured its new Dreamliner to accommodate 294 passengers in three classes. The cabin has a new business class equipped with 30 full seats, along with 32 economical premium seats.

«Our dream has finally come true with the arrival of the first Dreamliner 787-9 of Air Tahiti Nui. The Tahitian Dreamliner will make flying to one of the world’s treasures an unforgettable experience, as we introduce new seats and a culturally inspired cabin on the 787. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary this year, the 787 Dreamliner will guide us to another success 20 years and beyond», said Michel Monvoisin, Executive Director and President of Air Tahiti Nui.

The airline announced in 2015 that it would lease two 787s through LAC and buy two 787s directly from Boeing as part of its plan to improve its fleet for the future. The president of French Polynesia, Edouard Fritch, and other government dignitaries joined the airline to celebrate the milestone in the delivery at the Boeing Delivery Center in South Carolina.

«We are pleased to deliver the first aircraft from ALC to Air Tahiti Nui. The capabilities of the 787 will help improve Air Tahiti Nui’s business operations and significantly increase the efficiency of its future fleet», said Marc Baer, executive vice president of Air Lease Corporation.

«We are honored to welcome Air Tahiti Nui as a new customer of Boeing and the newest member of the 787 Dreamliner family, and we are confident that the market-leading efficiency of the aircraft and unparalleled amenities for passengers will transform the operations of the airline. This installment opens a new partnership between Boeing and Air Tahiti Nui, and demonstrates the strength of our partnership with ALC», said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president president of Commercial Sales and Marketing for The Boeing Company.
