AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

DGAC Chile revokes LAW Airlines license

The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) informed on Wednesday afternoon its decision to definitively revoke the air operator certificate (AOC) to the airline Latin American Wings (LAW)

The Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) informed on Wednesday afternoon its decision to definitively revoke the air operator certificate (AOC) to the airline Latin American Wings (LAW). «The aforementioned, as a result of the comprehensive audit performed on said company, which showed numerous breaches of the aeronautical regulations», as the agency indicated in a press release. The document also explains that «it was detected that this company has failed to comply with the requirements demanded by this aeronautical authority, affecting the safety of its air operations. Finally, the DGAC expresses that it regrets the effects that this measure «may have on users and the public in general, but it is the function of this Directorate of Aeronautics to oversee the activities of civil aviation, safeguarding people and flights».

It should be recalled that LAW was involved in various controversies, to make known their routes with immigrants from Haiti and Venezuela. Along with this, he presented a series of problems in his committed flights to Miami and Punta Cana, among other destinations.

But, prior to the decision of the DGAC, the company had filed an appeal for protection before the Court of Appeals against the agency, accusing that the March decision, when the permit was suspended, was illegal and arbitrary. In a document presented by LAW, it is accused that the DGAC would never have referred to the requirements that would have been disregarded. On the other hand, it says that «the general of Aviation Víctor Villalobos in his character of general director of the DGAC does not have the faculty simply to suspend an AOC of this form, without cause justified, by a superficial analysis of antecedents such as a restructuring of the company, studies of routes, or cessation of the company itself in its operations».

In another document entered on May 5, 2018, the company reports the «serious damage that has meant for the company the suspension of the license, such as the loss of three aircraft recovered by the lessors, the non-sale of over $ 5 billion Chilean pesos every month, not being able to pay the 600 workers of the firm».

A practically definitive blow was struck by the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) of Chile to the Latin American Wings (LAW), entombing the airline inexorably towards its final closure. A \ W

DOT regula transportación de animales

AW | 2018 05 17 14:33 | AVIATION / AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

US DOT regulates animal transportation

The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) takes strong action against emotionally supportive animals

Regulators are making it easier for US airlines to limit the growing number of dogs and other animals that passengers bring to the flights by saying they are for emotional or psychological support.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced on Wednesday that it will not penalize airlines if they refuse to allow passengers to board more than one support animal, require a passenger to have a disability or require proof of vaccination and training. of an animal. The agency will also allow airlines to impose reasonable restrictions on the movement of emotional support animals in the cockpit of an airplane.

«The Department of Transportation has heard from the transportation industry, as well as people with disabilities, that the current regulation could be improved to ensure non-discriminatory access for people with disabilities, while preventing instances of fraud and guarantees consistency with other federal regulations, «DOT said in a statement. DOT actions occur when the three largest US carriers have modified their animal policies since the beginning of this year in reaction to the large number of passengers who say they need them to provide emotional support. Those increased numbers also caused at least two incidents in which passengers were injured, including a man who suffered serious facial injuries from a dog last June on a Delta flight.

Position of the airlines

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines in March 2018 began requiring a 48-hour notice to travel with an emotional support animal, along with documents that could include proof that the animal is trained and the vaccines are up-to-date, and a letter from an doctor or mental health worker in the person’s need to have an animal or identify the disability involved.

American Airlines said on May 14, 2018 that it will adopt similar policies on July 1. Carriers have not changed the policies for trained service animals used by people with visual or hearing impairments, seizures or mobility problems.

Delta Air Lines said in January 2018 that it had transported some 700 service animals daily, an increase of 150% since 2015. The company also reported an 84% increase since 2016 in animal incidents, which include urine, feces and aggressive behavior. «Delta supports regulatory reform to further ensure the safety of all our customers and employees, while supporting the rights of customers with legitimate needs for service animals», said Ashton Kang, a spokeswoman.

While United Airlines noted a 75% increase in animals on board the previous year, and a significant increase in onboard incidents involving them. American and United are totally banning certain animals from traveling in the cabin, including hedgehogs, ferrets, insects, rodents, snakes, spiders, amphibians, sugar gliders and non-domestic birds. American also banned those with fangs, horns or hooves, except for trained miniature horses that act as service animals.

The Department of Transportation is also seeking public comment on possible new regulations to restrict the use of support animals. The government should issue a clearer guide as soon as possible to address the «exponential increase» in passengers who claim the need for such animals, said Sara Nelson, International President of the Association of Flight Attendants (CWA). «Flight attendants and passengers have been bitten, attacked and bothered by animals that are not properly trained to be in a confined public environment, which is interfering with the rights of our veterans and people with disabilities who legitimately need these animals to travel», said Sara Nelson.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The airline is a subsidiary of AQA Holding, owned by Alisarda (51%) and Qatar Airways (49%). On February 19, 2018, AQA Holding announced the change of official name of Meridiana to Air Italy at a press conference in Milan. The plan was to merge Meridiana’s former subsidiary, Air Italy (which was part of Meridiana Brand) to create a new Italian airline that is needed for Italy since the Air Italy competition, Alitalia, is currently bankrupt. New plans for the airline include a new lounge at the airport, new destinations, redesigned cabins and the future of the airline. The panel also indicated that Qatar Airways will have a code-share agreement with the airline. All official brands and businesses will be effective as of March 1, 2018.

On March 1, 2018, Air Italy officially began to operate. Meridiana IATA and the ICAO code were merged with Air Italy. The Meridiana website was relaunched to airitaly.com as of the rebranding. For now, the airline’s current fleet will continue to use Meridiana’s livery, but the new plane that the airline acquired will use Air Italy’s new cabin experience and new cabin.

The expansion of the Air Italy airline has also ordered thirty Boeing 787 Dreamliners that it plans to use for its long-range flights. It will start receiving from May 2019, and meanwhile, it will use Qatar Airways A330-200 aircraft to meet its demand. These fifty aircraft are part of the expansion plan of the Air Italy fleet, since Qatar Airways acquired it (at that time, its name was Meridiana) in October 2017.

The idea of the Qatar airline is to enter the Italian market, now that Alitalia is in turbulence, and to make Air Italy the number one airline company in this country. A \ W

Designarán nuevo CEO Grupo AF-KLM

Resultado de imagen para Air France

AW | 2018 05 15 10:03 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

New CEO appointed for Grupo AF-KLM

The Air France-KLM Group defines a new CEO

Air France-KLM will appoint Anne-Marie Couderc as the new president of the air consortium, following the resignation of Jean-Marc Janaillac for the workers’ rejection of his proposal to end the strikes.

The new CEO of the Franco-Dutch group will take the reins of the group until a new president is appointed, a process that will take several months. Meanwhile, the executive functions of the airlines will fall to their CEOs: Franck Terner for Air France and Pieter Elbers for KLM.

The interim president of Air France-KLM comes from a long career in transport and publishing companies and in public management. She was Secretary of State and Minister Delegate in the area of Work, director of the network of metropolitan trains RATP, of Paris; and the SNCF state railways. He also held executive positions in the Hachette and Presstalis publishing group.

The crisis that does not stop

The workers of Air France have been strikes for 15 days, which already cost 375 million euros, which led the airline to lose 8.7% of its passenger traffic in April 2018.

To stop the labor unrest, Janaillac proposed that workers vote in a referendum on the proposal of a 2% salary increase this year and a supplementary 5% in a staggered fashion from 2019 to 2021.

55.4% of the workers said no, and Janaillac kept his promise: resign if the proposal was rejected. What employees are demanding is a rise of 3.8% due to accumulated inflation between 2012 and 2017, and an increase of 1.3% in October to equal the inflation estimated for this year.

Turbulence for the future

In addition to the negotiation with the unions, Air France-KLM has the urgent need to straighten up the group for the launch of its new strategic plan 2020-2025, which Janaillac had planned to present in June.

KLM rules out that it will be separated from Air France, but asks its partners to put an end to labor unrest. The group’s latest strategic plans focused on the restructuring of the short-distance network, the development of the low-cost business (Transavia) and the creation of the airline ‘Joon’; The next step would be to decide whether or not to start a low-cost long distance activity like other groups. AW | 2018 05 14 16:36 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

LASA Líneas Aéreas builds hangar in Neuquén

LASA started the construction of its hangar for the aircraft fleet

The LASA airline began construction of the hangar to operate the Neuquén hub from July 7, 2018, on the routes that were handed over to it by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).

Juan Silenzi, President of the airline, has announced that the construction of the hangar is for the company’s own account and accused both the Neuquén Airport Administrator and the Government of the Province of Neuquén because it says agreements signed in advance were not complied with. announcement of the business plan of the company. The provincial government disregarded the controversy by ensuring that it did not sign any commitment or financing or guarantee. The agreement for the construction of the LASA hangar has as parts the airline and ANSA, in charge of the administration of the airport of the city. And it fixed that the administrator would finance the construction of a hangar in charge of LASA with an investment ceiling of about AR $ 2,2 million pesos.

LASA warned that if the hangar works had not begun last week, it would be unfeasible to start the flight plan scheduled for the last working day of the first week of July. It is the second in size of those that exist in the country, as announced by the company and the Government, when it was announced that the airline would have its hub at the Neuquen capital’s airport.

Home ops of LASA

The start of LASA flights is delayed compared to the original plans, attributing it to the delays due to the works of the new hangar in Neuquén. The company will fly, as announced, with aircraft from the Embraer factory.

The projections estimate that on July 6, 2018 LASA’s first flight from Neuquén is scheduled, connecting Zapala and Chapelco. But the new investments of the company put in doubt these connections. A \ W
