AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Nigeria orders complete audit of Dana Air

DanaFlight.pngThe Government of Nigeria has ordered a complete audit of the airline Dana Air

The Government of Nigeria has ordered a comprehensive review of the airline’s operations following a report from the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika. The Nigerian government ordered a full audit of Dana Air after a series of operational hiccups on the airline last month.

On February 7, 2018, an emergency exit was opened on one of the four Dana Air MD-83s when the aircraft was taxiing to the Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport terminal. The airline subsequently blamed the incident on the actions of a passenger. Then, on February 20, another Dana Air MD-83 surpassed the launch pad at Port Harcourt Omagwa during a torrential rain. Although the aircraft, 5N-SRI (msn 53020), sustained considerable damage, none of the 44 passengers and six crew members on board were injured.

Dana Air communications and media manager Kingsley Ezenwa said since then that the operator welcomes the audit and cooperates fully with the auditors.

Although Dana Air is under audit, it has informed its planned interline agreement for lease to ASKY Airlines that involves the incorporation of a B737-700. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Risk of closure of South African Airways

South African Airways faces losses and risk of bankruptcy

The accumulated losses of South African Airways (SAA) are making it difficult for the airline to survive, undermined by poor management

The South African state airline lost money in each of the last seven years, so the accumulation of red numbers is unbearable. To this day, the only hope is in the hands of the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, after committing to refloat the state airlines after years of corruption and poor management under the command of Jacob Zuma. In 2017, the airline registered net losses of more than US $ 471,000,000, making it difficult to prepare a correct financial record of the assets, according to the Auditor General of the Ministry of Finance of South Africa.

For its part, the Executive Director of the airline, Vuyani Jarana, is doing everything possible to reduce routes and expenses in order to reduce dependence on the Government. At the same time the company is looking for a capitalist partner to provide cash to the company. Meanwhile, the South African state airline is preparing a list of assets to put on sale.

For the new South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, the crisis in SAA is one of the many hot topics inherited from his administration. In fact, the company was dragged down by the mismanagement that was made during the Zuma years. Its new Managing Director, Vuyani Jarana, has launched an emergency management plan marked by a strategy of closing lines and reducing costs. A \ W

Gigante HNA Group reduce su estructura

HNA Group is looking to offload a large portfolio of commercial properties in New York, London and other major cities.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Giant HNA Group reduces its structure

Resultado de imagen para HNA GroupHNA Group will sell Gategroup and cut staff in the midst of liquidity crisis

China group HNA Group has announced the sale of its Swiss subsidiary of catering and services Gategroup through an initial public offering (IPO) on the Swiss stock exchange.

According to reports, the Chinese conglomerate plans to lay off 100,000 employees, a quarter of its workforce, Intelligence Involved by Risk Events (REDD) has reported, although this has not been confirmed by HNA Group.

Both actions are part of the conglomerate’s drive to improve its liquidity, as it overstretched its finances with a wave of acquisitions of USD50 billion in the last two years.

The Gategroup list is expected to increase US $ 370.5 million. HNA Group is selling up to 65% of the shares of the Swiss company and will retain only three of the nine positions on the company’s board of directors, completely renouncing its control of the unit. Until the acquisition by HNA Group in 2016, Gategroup had traded on the Swiss stock exchange. HNA Group is also considering quoting its second Swiss subsidiary, the Swissport scale services company, for sale.

Although HNA Group does not disclose its financial information publicly, in January the conglomerate’s president, Chen Feng, admitted that it faces a liquidity crisis. In November 2017, The Wall Street Journal reported that the conglomerate had accumulated a total of US $ 100 billion in debt.

The outstanding balance of HNA with China National Aviation Fuel Group (CNAF), a state fuel supplier fall almost monopolistic market in China, has reached US $ 474.4 million. The debt is mainly taken over by Hainan Airlines Holding Co., a unit of the HNA Group that operates Hainan Airlines and a dozen other airlines in China.

It was reported that one of the ways studied to settle the debt with CNAF is an asset swap that would allow transferring the shares of Haikou Airport, owned by HNA Group, to the supplier.

For the time being, CNAF continues to supply fuel to the HNA Group’s airlines in spite of the debts, since to stop doing so would create a great disturbance in the Chinese aviation market. However, South China Bluesky Aviation Oil Co., a subsidiary of CNAF, has demanded that the debt be resolved before March 16, Yicai Global reported.

Entering 2018, several units of the HNA Group suspended their operations in the Shanghai Stock Exchange, including Hainan Airlines and Bohai Capital, parent of the Avolon lessor. In February, Tianjin Airlines (GS, Tianjin), another subsidiary of the HNA Group, secured a CNY 400 million injection from a Tianjin government entity and an existing shareholder, Tianjin Bonded Area Investment Co., while the HNA Group obtained a CNY20 billion credit line from CITIC Bank.

The conglomerate has also been trying to unload some of its real estate, including an office tower in Sydney and two land in Hong Kong.

The notoriously complicated HNA Group holding structure involves holdings in Avolon, Gategroup, Servair, SR Technics and CIT Aerospace, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras, TAP Portugal, Virgin Australia, Comair (South Africa), Frankfurt Hahn and Rio de Janeiro Airport , Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Swiss travel retailer Dufry and Deutsche Bank, as well as many Chinese carriers, along with multiple other travel, property, logistics and financial companies. Bloomberg has reported that, in total, there may be up to 518 companies related to the conglomerate’s ownership. A \ W

American will withdraw 45 Boeing 737

American Airlines will cancel 45 Boeing 737 in the next two years

American Airlines plans to recall 45 older Boeing 737s in the next two years as part of a review aimed at reducing the age of its narrowbody fleet.

As part of the American Airlines fleet renewal program, the company based in Fort Worth, Texas, plans to retire 12 aircraft next year and 33 in 2020, an average of three aircraft per month. The oldest Boeing 737-800 are almost 19 years old. Recent deliveries reduced American’s average age to 8.1 years, according to the airline’s annual report. The airline had 304 Boeing 737s at the end of 2017, which represents almost one third of its main aircraft fleet. Between this year and the end of 2020, American plans to add 50 Airbus A321NEO aircraft and 40 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

Larger airlines, including American, have a considerable fleet of middle-aged aircraft, requiring scheduled withdrawals to introduce newer aircraft. Older aircraft tend to require more maintenance than newer models.

The changes are part of American’s broader effort to offset deliveries of new planes with withdrawals to keep its main fleet at around 950, although the figure is set to fall to 935 by 2020. The airline received 469 new aircraft since it was merged with US Airways at the end of 2013, which has withdrawn the same number of aircraft. By the end of 2018, American will retire the last of its McDonnell Douglas MD-80s, which have an average age of 21.3 years. The airline previously owned had up to 375 of the planes, one of the largest fleets in the world of the famed airplanes of Long Beach, California. A \ W

EEUU cancelan más de 2,400 vuelos

AW | 2018 03 07 20:25 | AIRLINES / AIR TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

US airlines cancel more than 2,400 flights

US airlines have canceled more than 2,400 in the northeast

Most major airports in the Northeast were operating with minimal delays, despite cancellations, the FAA said. Meteorologists adjusted their snowfall predictions several times Wednesday when another powerful winter storm hit the northeast, but many airlines took no chances.

The airlines canceled more than 2,400 scheduled flights to or from major airports in the Boston, Philadelphia and New York area, according to the FlightAware site.

More than half of scheduled departures, 353 flights, from Newark Liberty International Airport were canceled. The airport is a great center for United Airlines. Carriers canceled 342 flights from LaGuardia Airport and 266 from John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to FlightAware. A similar number of flights to those airports were also canceled. Airlines canceled more than 320 flights that were canceled to and from Logan International Airport in Boston.

Newark Airport closed briefly on Wednesday afternoon and flights to Philadelphia International Airport were delayed by almost two hours due to ice and other bad weather conditions, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The airlines, including United, Delta, JetBlue and American, waived the exchange rates for travelers affected by the storm if those people could move their trips to the next few days.

While forecasts continue to change, airlines often cancel flights before severe weather to avoid stranded crews and passengers, which can lead to even greater logistical headaches. A \ W
