AW | 2017 11 23 10:20 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Bankruptcy of Alas Uruguay formalized

The bankruptcy of Alas Uruguay will leave a debt of U $ D 22 million dollars

The end of Alas Uruguay arrives with the judicial news of the formal bankruptcy of the airline. The Government of Uruguay had invested around US $ 25 million in the project to subplant the need to have an airline after the vacuum left by BQB Líneas Aéreas. The Fondes investment group granted US $ 15 million and another US $ 10 million for unemployment insurance that had several extensions from 2012 to 2015. The company’s equity was US $ 450,000.

Alas Uruguay was looking for financing from a new investor before an imminent closing. The company announced in October 2016 to the 170 employees that the airline stopped flying. The contest was decreed eight months after May 12, 2017, then the creditors were notified and the inventory was presented. Among the creditors of that debt of U $ D 22 million there are employees, service providers and the principal victim that is the Fondes, to which Alas Uruguay owes US $ 16 million. A \ W

Aerolíneas cancelación vuelos al exterior

AW | 2017 11 23 08:19 | AIRLINES

Cancellation of flights abroad is due to union problems

Aerolineas Argentinas has reported the cancellation of international flights. The cause is a measure of strength made by pilots and crews, due to the claim of «remove from collaboration».

The Association of Airline Pilots (APLA) reported that the company «schedules flights without having enough personnel». The company affirmed that «due to the refusal on the part of the technical crews to accept to reprogram flights and due to biased interpretations of the rules of rest, the company is forced to cancel four international flights, affecting around 2,000 passengers». For this reason, the airline is relocating passengers on company and other company flights on nearby dates, while applying a flexible commercial policy for the change and return of tickets.

From Aerolíneas Argentinas explained that «these measures are added to the assemblies of September 8, the unemployment of October 30 and 31 and the recurrent quites of collaboration that are affecting in particular the international operation. By having only one daily frequency in most of the cases international flights and by the high levels of occupation, it presents major difficulties at the time of relocating the passengers, generating great inconveniences and exorbitant and unrecoverable costs to the company», detailed the company’s statement.

The Secretary General of APLA, Pablo Biró, has reported that Aerolíneas «lack pilot endowments and schedule flights without crews waiting for them to fly on free days».

Delayed international flights
The delayed international flights were: AR1300 (21/11) Ezeiza-New York, and its return flight, the AR1301 (22/11) New York-Ezeiza. The AR1360 (22/11) Ezeiza-Bogotá and Bogotá-Ezeiza also had delays. The AR1300 (23/11) Ezeiza-New York and his return, the AR1301 (23/11). The AR1140 Ezeiza-Rome and his return flight, the AR1141, tomorrow (24/11). A \ W

Pilotos irlandeses reclaman a Ryanair

AW | 2017 11 22 13:53 | AIRLINES

Irish pilots claim Ryanair

The Irish Association of Airline Pilots submitted a formal claim to Ryanair

The Irish Association of Airline Pilots (IALPA) requires Ryanair to establish conversations with the representation of airline pilots. In a letter addressed to the airline’s executive, Michael O’Leary and other executives, a dialogue table was convened as soon as possible.

The negotiation causes more discomfort in the Irish airline, than having to sit down at a table to talk with its workers, as your CEO has remarked tirelessly.

In Ryanair there was an unusual situation in which no union proposed collective bargaining in the company. The claim of the Union is a new action of the company’s pilots to pressure it in order to admit the fact that it has to negotiate with its workers the conditions in which they find themselves and operate, after 20 years of refusing to do so, normally with little exemplary methods. According to trade union sources, Ryanair will receive similar letters from other European countries where it has operational bases. However, officially the company has reiterated that it does not negotiate with unions, but it does negotiate individually with the representatives of the workers in the 86 bases that it has.

For Ryanair, this matter is extremely serious. While the unions are being organized, the company has been offering better conditions to its pilots for months, mainly in order to avoid collective bargaining. The company seems to prefer to pay more, but as long as that does not mean sitting at a table with the unions and entering a dynamic that in a situation of conflict is quite difficult to handle, especially when you have the poor touch of Michael O’Leary. Sitting at a negotiating table could happen that agreements are not accepted and in the end a general strike of activities would cause a blow to the coffers of the airline.

Meanwhile, the airline is expanding its pilot staff and has just informed that 36 entered last week and that there are almost 1,100 who started working so far in 2017. A \ W
