Astronautas instalan paneles solares

AW | 2021 07 03 11:21 | AEROSPACE

Astronauts install solar panels

Installation of advanced solar panels in ISS

Two new and advanced solar panels provided by The Boeing Company have increased the power supply of the International Space Station (ISS) after European astronaut Thomas Pesquet and NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough installed them during three spacewalks on the 16, June 20-25, 2021. The new arrays contain stronger solar cells that are also more efficient than their predecessors. Measuring 61 feet long and 20 feet wide, they generate twice the power in half the space of the original dies that they partially cover.

Boeing provided the new arrays to NASA, with solar cells from Spectrolab and a structure from Redwire that allowed the arrays to be rolled tight for launch and unwound on their own power rather than requiring a motor.

Boeing developed the folding arrangements small enough to be packed on a space-classified pallet that fits inside the trunk of the SpaceX Cargo Dragon that brought the arrangements to the ISS. Once in orbit, the folded arrays were removed by the ISS robotic arm and positioned so that spacewalkers could pull them out to the other end of the ISS armor for installation.

Four more arrays will be launched to the ISS and installed in the next two years, providing a 20% to 30% increase in power that will support more science experiments, technological research and commercial activities in low Earth orbit.

Lionel Rouby, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Digital Solutions for Airbus Customer Services said: “We are delighted to welcome GE Digital to the Aviation Digital Alliance. The resulting combination of Delta’s know-how in airline operations and maintenance, Airbus aircraft design expertise, Skywise’s ‘big-data operating fleet’ and now GE’s industry-leading predictive analytics, will provide a even greater value to the multitude of airlines around the world. connected to the Skywise Core platform. These airlines will soon benefit from even more powerful ‘nose-to-tail’ and cross-fleet digital solutions».

The alliance covers structure and systems analysis and predictive maintenance for a wide range of ATA chapters on Airbus single-aisle and wide-body aircraft. Delta provides analytical capabilities covering nearly all airframe and engine types and configurations across Airbus and other OEM aircraft fleets. As currently the only customer among alliance members, Delta can also ensure that products are validated and applicable.

GE Digital will complement the existing portfolio of the alliance by bringing its own extensive analytics capabilities. The equipment and related predictive models that GE Digital will contribute span many types of aircraft systems in various chapters of the ATA. Overall, GE’s joining the alliance will roughly double both the number of analytical algorithms and the number of aircraft parts that can be monitored. by analytics.

To support the growth of the Aviation Digital Alliance, Airbus has created a dedicated team of Atlanta-based data scientists, customer experience designers and software developers to work closely with Delta TechOps and GE Digital.

AW | 2021 07 01 07:38 | AIRLINES ROUTES

Buscan restablecer conexiones internacionales

Brazil reactivation of foreign airlines

They seek to reestablish international connections

Brazil is analyzing the process of reestablishing the air services network after a drop in operations due to the global health crisis, after several airlines, including low cost, stopped flying to the South American country. The scenario caused by the pandemic has created problems not only for operations but also in their countries of origin.

Some airlines in the region and the world have stopped flying in the face of restrictions and the harsh economic adjustment measures of the airlines with the Argentine Flybondi Líneas Aéreas, JetSmart Airlines and Norwegian International Airlines.

Flybondi Líneas Aéreas maintained the routes between Argentina and the Brazilian cities of São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis until before the start of the pandemic, but since March 2020, the Argentine Government has established several restrictions for international flights that affected the operation of the company. At times, the company planned to return to Brazil, but the initiative had to be suspended. Currently, on the official website of the budget airline you can find tickets for the routes that connect Buenos Aires/EZE with São Paulo/GRU or Rio de Janeiro/GIG with flights scheduled for October 2021, but in any case the schedule will continue subject to approval by ANAC Argentina.

The Chilean airline JetSmart Airlines still does not have a return date, but maintains several requests for flight authorization to Brazil before the ANAC Brazil body for the next few months. The low cost has established programming between Santiago de Chile/SCL and Foz do Iguaçu/IGU available from September 2021. In a statement, the company said that it wants to operate again next quarter in Brazil (3Q2021). «Projecting that the pandemic situation will improve during the second half of the year and in line with the progress of the vaccination process in the region, we plan our return to Brazil as soon as possible. We hope that before the fourth quarter of 2021 we will resume our routes. our international routes in the Brazilian market», says the airline.

Norwegian Internatioanl Airlines operated the route between Rio de Janeiro and London, but definitively canceled the operation in Brazil. The airline is undergoing a restructuring and will focus only on regional sections in Europe, abandoning long-haul flights entirely.

AW | 2021 07 01 06:51 | AVIATION ORGANISMS / AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Argentine Government-airlines tension

Airlines reject meeting with the Government

The Government of the Argentine Republic had summoned the representatives of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to a meeting at Casa Rosada, headquarters of the national Government, but the organization rejected the request, noting that the Chief of Staff would not participate in the meeting.

The IATA issued a statement this Wednesday June 30, 2021 that, for the moment, they desist from participating in a meeting with government authorities to analyze the restrictions imposed on the arrival of international flights to Argentina, amid concern about expansion of the Delta variant of Coronavirus in the world. According to the authorities of the body that represents the airlines in the world, the Government had called a meeting at Casa Rosada scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday 30/06. The call appeared after the public claim of the Vice President of IATA, Peter Cerdá, who had declared that the decision of the Argentine Government had not informed details of the restrictions applied. «They should inform how the 600 seats will be distributed among the airlines that provide international passenger services in the country, this must be done in a transparent way», said Peter Cerdá.

They reported from the agency that the government’s call actually existed, although when observing the details of the meeting they noticed the absence of the Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero. “When the authorities communicated more details, we learned that the main decision-maker and signatory of Administrative Decision No. 643, Chief of Staff Santiago Cafiero, would not be present. Therefore, IATA has requested that the meeting be rescheduled for when Mr. Cafiero can attend”, they warned in a later statement from IATA.

Government decision

The Government of Argentina decided to restrict entry to the country to a quota of 600 passengers per day for fear of the Delta variant of the Coronavirus. Alerted by the circulation of the Delta variant, officials decided to restrict the entry of flights from abroad and impose mandatory isolation measures for those who can enter.

The Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, announced that those who return to the country must comply with a mandatory isolation of four days in hotels and three days in their private homes. In the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, meanwhile, the Minister of Health Fernán Quirós had indicated that the quota of 600 people per day authorized to enter the country does not make sense, although he stressed that the criterion should be the lowest possible income.

The National Directorate of Migration had recognized that there are around 45,000 Argentines outside the country and remarked that the majority had left for tourism purposes.

Denuncian abusos en tarifas Aerolíneas

AW | 2021 06 30 21:08 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

They denounce abuses in Aerolíneas fares

From the political arena they accuse of planned monopoly

A project presented by the radical Deputies Gustavo Menna (Chubut) and Roxana Reyes (Santa Cruz) denounce rates that are up to 600% more expensive in relation to destinations with similar distances. The Deputies of the Patagonia Region have repudiated the abusive and discriminatory rates that Aerolíneas Argentinas has implemented that affect this region. «This situation greatly harms the residents of the northern area of Santa Cruz who have a connection to the country through these flights in order to reach the north of Argentina», said Roxana Reyes. Likewise, the legislator assured that what the project contemplates is a request to review the rates that today present between 300 and 600% more in value: «Aerolíneas Argentinas thus harms the inhabitants of the south of Chubut and north of Santa Cruz who regularly use that route to get around. These are exorbitant rates, disproportionate and well above those charged for other destinations by the same company».

The legislators regretted the tariff policy applied by the Argentine state-owned commercial airline, because it reveals abuse towards users and violates basic consumer rights. “There is no justification. Although the rates vary from day to day, in all cases the same range of difference is verified, which is in no way explained by the difference in distance or flight time”, said deputy Gustavo Menna for his part.

Another politician like José Luis Espert denounced that the Government has a hidden intention with Aerolíneas Argentinas. The Argentine economist affirmed that the money of the State is wasted, and warned: «Less in what they should have spent, they have used millions of Dollars in anything». In addition, he criticized the government’s economic policy and the interests behind some official measures that a sector of the Executive Power has with Aerolíneas Argentinas. «The objective was fulfilled, is that Aerolíneas is a closed monopoly», to the detriment of other cabotage airlines. They even suppressed the Austral Líneas Aéreas airline, which represented an obstacle to the union policy of the hardest core of the business and union leadership. The case of Latam Airlines Argentina, overwhelmed by the strong harassment of the kirchnerism leadership, has given up on continuing to fly in the country.

With this aerial panorama that began interweaving with the change of Government, commercial aviation policies have not had a sustained development or clear rules for all equally, rather, state aid has prevailed while the aviation market has collapsed dramatically facing a monopolization caused by the leadership of the day.
