CAA Reino unido aprueba vuelos transatlánticos a JetBlue Airways
JetBlue gets CAA Agency approval
UK CAA approves transatlantic flights to JetBlue Airways
The United Kingdom’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed the regulatory approval of the American airline JetBlue Airways to initiate transatlantic flights from the United States. As part of the UK’s salute from the European Community, the CAA agency has had to establish its own regulations regarding commercial aviation. Consequently, it is the first time that the aviation regulator has issued its own approval for a foreign airline, since the UK seceded from the European Union in early 2021.
The CAA formally authorizes JetBlue Airways to fly transatlantic flights from the United States to the United Kingdom. This approval will allow the airline to fly from Boston—London and New York—London, although the airport where it will land from the London capital has yet to be defined. JetBlue received the slots it wanted so much at London/ Heathrow Airport, according to the Airport Slot Coordination Limited, which indicates that the airline obtained 270 slots for the boreal summer 2021, reporting that 180 slots are allocated for flights to New York/JFK—London and the other 90 remaining for Boston/BOS—London. The launch date of the flights has not yet been confirmed, while the scheduled slots suggest that the opening day would be around August 2, 2021, progressively increasing the slot permits in the following months.
JetBlue Airways’ transatlantic route planning will employ the Airbus A321NEO LR aircraft in its new design incorporating the premium Mint Suite cabins. The aircraft will have a configuration of 24 seats in Mint Suites class and 138 in Economy class.
JetBlue Airways has made it possible to achieve a significant milestone in expanding transatlantic services by clearing an obstacle to commencing regular operations scheduled to begin in the summer (3Q2021). The announcement received from the CAA Agency was cheered by the American company. The company expects to have a great response from the demand for transatlantic flights by joining as a new airline to link the United States with Europe. For JetBlue Airways it is a milestone historic moment in its transatlantic adventure.

ALTA reports traffic fall 02/2021
Latin America reports another traffic depression in February 2021
The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) reported on 04/19 another drop in air traffic for airlines operating in Latin America and the Caribbean with just 15.5 million passengers in February 2021, reaching 55.7 percent. less with respect to the interannual percentage, meaning a drop of 20 million travelers. Given the need to increase flights, the application of vaccines represents an essential step to achieve certain immunity in the fight against the pandemic, so that more people can travel again and thus reactivate air connectivity in each country and in the region.
ALTA Executive Director José Ricardo Botelho pointed out that this drop in passenger traffic is a change in the trend shown in previous months, in which they approached 2019 levels, but now the figures point to a month with the greater fall than the previous one. However, he added that international traffic has been the hardest hit with a reduction of 66.7 percent in February 2021, while domestic traffic was 46.6 percent, with the transfer of 4,362,250 people to and from Latin America. and the Caribbean in the second month. According to ALTA, passengers will not travel if there is a possibility of quarantine, now stricter due to the reimpositions of measures in the region.
The agency has stated that it is important to consider vaccination as a long-term solution, while for the short term other efficient alternatives for mobility should be evaluated. The recognition between States of tests and vaccines is key, for which they must agree on acceptance and safety standards so that health credentials are recognized when landing abroad. With the exception of Chile, the population in the region still has a low vaccination rate, with disparity in the times in which countries will achieve immunity, which could lead to a prolongation and lack of coordination in the process of reactivating international travel . Unlike Russia and China, no nation in Latin America has recovered its pre-Covid-19 levels with respect to passenger movement, only Mexico and Brazil present better numbers because they continued their operations without border closures, however, they remain below what was registered in 2019.
ALTA / ACI-LAC
The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Council of Airports for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) continue to advocate for the need to plan ahead and in a coordinated manner between governments and industry so that commercial aviation can resume, once the new mobility restrictions are lifted in the Latin American region. In the statement they state: «We understand and share that people’s well-being is the priority. Therefore, after numerous dialogues with health authorities and government representatives, airlines, airports and suppliers we have prepared to offer a safe service with all protocols necessary to protect users and collaborators. However, at this time it is imperative to have a regional regulatory harmonization and a clear outlook for the industry and, especially, for users. Air transport requires detailed planning throughout the entire logistics that must be managed, on the one hand, to guarantee safety, on the other, to serve passengers who need predictability to trust travel again. For this reason, it is also important that governments consider workers in the sector as essential and are included among the priority groups to receive available vaccines against Covid-19. The current restrictions not only ground hundreds of airplanes, workers and passengers, but also directly affect the connectivity and socio-economic benefits that this sector brings to our countries. On behalf of the industry we reiterate the urgency of maintaining a transparent and fluid communication with the industry that allows the necessary planning for the restart of stable operations».
ICAO
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has called on the authorities of each nation to guarantee optimal results in the implementation of the CART guide updated in March 2021. As well as, the different industry organizations have developed different programs that help the sector to regain the confidence of passengers in air travel by promoting harmonization in the health measures implemented. The universal harmonization of these recommendations will allow the reactivation of the industry and will return people to their jobs. In addition to ICAO’s follow-up on its implementation, it is crucial to monitor the results of progress in risk management by Covid-19. In this scenario, tests will play a critical role in giving governments the confidence to reopen their borders. Studies indicate that antigen tests are a true alternative to PCR tests because they meet all the required characteristics (effectiveness, cost, and access).
Air transport has proven to be a safe means that activates a wide value chain that includes, among others, tourism, services, commerce, construction, gastronomy and more sectors that generate jobs and well-being for countries and their inhabitants. We provide an essential and efficient service for the population, we also make it possible to transport vital supplies, including vaccines. We are ready with multiple programs that harmonize sanitary measures to regain the trust of users.

LADE expands services in Patagonia
LADE increases frequencies by integrating Patagonia
The promotion company of the Argentine Air Force, LADE Líneas Aéreas is in continuous expansion of services in the Patagonia Region as part of a plan to reinforce destinations in the country in times of pandemic where connection needs are vital for integration. of distant populations. For this purpose, the airline is reassigning personnel to reinforce stopovers with appropriate endowments for the correct dispatch of flight, luggage and customer service. LADE’s air routes include from its Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut) hub to Perito Moreno, Bariloche, Trelew, Esquel, Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, Río Gallegos, Río Grande and Calafate.
Línea Aéreas del Estado with more than eighty years of service is the oldest airline in Argentina with a strong service commitment of linking Patagonia through its promotion and integration air routes, with the announcement of adding frequencies. Commodore Major Fabián Vidal Arbeletche, National Director of LADE Lineas Aereas, recognizes the validity of the service and the provision of the line in times of pandemic. «In recent years we were present in the area but in the beginning it was flown in the Center and the Coast of the country, even reaching Asunción del Paraguay in the 60s. They changed the operational safety standards that we must comply with in order to have a safe flight. and protecting the passenger. It is a difficulty to be able to articulate these minimum requirements to reach the most distant or more modest airports”, he expressed with the faithful commitment to unite and integrate isolated territories of the country.
LADE integration
LADE covers the routes from Río Negro to the south with the Fokker 28-Mk 1000, SAAB 340 and Twin Otter aircraft. In the short term, the airline will incorporate its first Boeing 737-700 as part of the expansion and modernization of a very vital fleet for services and logistical support in the southern region, while it will allow it to develop flights with greater benefits and more distant destinations.
From the Comodoro Rivadavia operations hub, it connects the routes of north central Patagonia, linking Perito Moreno, San Carlos de Bariloche; Trelew, Esquel and Comodoro on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as a southern route that reaches Ushuaia, linking Río Gallegos and Río Grande, also integrating Calafate on Mondays and Fridays. In addition, direct flights were incorporated between Puerto Madryn and Comodoro Rivadavia, twice a week, round trip (2Frq/S). LADE has four weekly flights that reach the most important points of Patagonia and even in a pandemic they remain dynamic and frequent. “The benefit of choosing LADE is to arrange flights from Comodoro to inland locations with connection to Ushuaia, Bariloche or Esquel twice a week when no one is doing so. If we did not exist, we would have to resort to commercial companies that do not reach intermediate locations for reasonable reasons of profitability. As for continental Patagonia with Tierra del Fuego, the only regular and reliable connection is the one provided by LADE”.
LADE has a permanent Air Force crew allowing to recover destinations and increase frequencies, keeping in mind the sanitary protocols and attending the current needs of the country, connecting destinations where commercial airlines consider less profitable. “As we recover aerial material, we seek to resume the connection of Buenos Aires with the southern towns and implementing routes to the north with the idea of starting in the Argentine Northwest. We are betting on more and greater incorporation of aerial material for economic development and territorial integration”, explained Comodoro Mayor Fabián Vidal Arbeletche.
DOJ investigates AA-JetBlue alliance
Justice Department investigates American Airlines-JetBlue alliance
The Department of Justice of the United States (DOJ) is in the process of investigating the new alliance in the northeast of the United States between American Airlines, with its center in Dallas/Fort Worth, and JetBlue Airways, with its base in New York/JFK, in the face of antitrust claims in the US market. Although the investigation has not gone public, both airlines share implicit recognition with American Airlines, underlining in a statement that both it and JetBlue Airways were fully cooperating with the Department of Justice in this regard.
Investigators are concerned that the alliance could lead to anticompetitive shifts affecting key centers in the northeastern United States. Both airlines maintain that the cooperation would be beneficial to passengers. The investigation is ongoing and the Justice Department has yet to reach any conclusions. However, the department’s final ruling would be subject to reversal by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which has the final say on competition matters in the aviation industry.
The DOT approved the alliance on January 10, 2021, with the two airlines unveiling the first batch of shared and coordinated routes in February 2021. However, despite the January approval, DOT’s procedures regarding the alliance are still ongoing following a Spirit Airlines complaint filed on April 1, 2021. The low-cost carrier responded to JetBlue’s request for a change in the allocation of traffic rights with respect to its services to Ecuador, claiming that the request demonstrated collusion with American Airlines beyond the approved scope. «The timing of JetBlue’s proposed change suggests that the two airlines are coordinating outside the scope of the alliance. On March 8, 2021, American submitted a request to move its seven Dallas/Fort Worth-Quito International frequencies and seven Dallas-Guayaquil to Miami Int’l in such a way that Ecuador’s 42 frequencies would now operate from Miami. Just two weeks later, JetBlue requested to move seven of its Fort Lauderdale Int’l-Quito frequencies to operate a double day between New York JFK and Guayaquil. […] These movements raise obvious questions of explicit or unspoken coordination», Spirit Airlines said in a DOT presentation.
The low cost company Spirit Airlines alleges that even though the services to Ecuador are not part of the Northeast Alliance, they must be taken into account together with the slot agreements approved in New York/JFK and the shared codes in the Florida market- New York. As a result, the network reorganization would give the two airlines market dominance on Ecuadorian routes from both Florida and New York. «Spirit believes that the Ecuador changes are part of a larger plan to control the New York-Florida market, including the New York and South Florida markets to Ecuador», Spirit said. Currently, American Airlines currently has a market share of 51.1% by capacity between the United States and Ecuador. JetBlue is the second largest airline in the market with a 19.9% market share by capacity. Spirit has a modest 4.9% share and offers the fewest number of seats to Ecuador among all US passenger airlines serving the market.
LCC Spirit Airlines appealed to DOT to deny JetBlue’s request for additional frequencies from Ecuador and to open the matter to the public for consultation. The DOT said it was evaluating the matter. JetBlue Airways responded to Spirit Airlines’ submission on April 12, 2021, requesting its immediate clearance. «The issues raised by Spirit and Eastern Airlines [whose April 1 complaint concerns only competitive issues on routes between the United States and Ecuador] are not German to this record, and must be dismissed entirely or, failing that, addressed elsewhere», JetBlue Airways said.
The airline acknowledged that Spirit had vehemently opposed the Northeast Alliance, but called the LCC’s arguments unfounded. Although claims are not dismissed, they should not deter DOT approval of the Ecuador routes request. «The state of the airline industry is very much in flux at the moment, as it begins to recover from the depths of the covid-19 crisis. Especially when carriers must give dynamic responses to unprecedented and fluid market conditions, such requests they must be promptly adjudicated, «said JetBlue Airways.

JetSmart faces lawsuit with Jetsmarter over trademark registration
The American airline Jetsmarter has requested the rejection of brand validity from JetSmart Airlines due to the similarities and problems to confuse the business name of the airlines involved. The request was argued by the lawyers of Jetsmarter, a mobile application for private jet users, based in the United States.
The beginning of the litigation had started in mid-2017, when the company JetSmart Airlines, created by the American fund Indigo Partners Inc., had requested the registration of its brand for Class 12, a classification that includes air vehicles, and Class 41, publication of magazines, among other services, before the National Institute of Industrial Property. However, the request was refuted by the lawyers of Jetsmarter based in Fort Lauderdale (FL), United States. The Institute of Industrial Property in the first instance, partially resolved in favor of the company Jetsmarter: «Granting the requested trademark will be the cause of all kinds of errors or confusion among the consuming public, regarding the origin of the coverage that is to be distinguished».
Ilyushin decreases line Il-96
Ilyushin limits mass construction of Il-96-400M
The Russian company Ilyushin Aviation Complex has announced a drastic reduction in the production line for the four-engine Ilyushin Il-96 widebody aircraft that carries 370 passengers. The UAC Corporation, the parent company, has made the decision to abandon mass production of the Il-96-400M. Assembled by Voronezh Aircraft Manufacturing Company (VAS), part of the state conglomerate, the four-engine jet is a larger variant of the widebody. The reason for the decline in manufacturing has been the new pandemic scenario that has sharply decreased the conglomerate’s aircraft orders. «There is no order from the airlines and, considering COVID-19 and the downtime of long-haul aircraft around the world, serial production of the Il-96-400M is not yet planned», said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Yury Ivanovich Borisov. Builder VASO will complete the assembly of only two Il-96-400Mq that will be delivered to Rossiya Airlines, a state airline used by high-ranking federal government officials.
Rostec Corporation, a state-owned Russian government technology company, has explained that the four-engine plane was not intended for mass production. Instead, your mission is to serve as a special aircraft, with unique orders. The Il-96-400M has emerged as a cheaper and faster alternative to offer a long-haul and high-capacity aircraft to Russian airlines, while the Sino-Russian CR929 project continues in the development stage to offer new technologies.
The original forecast for the Il-96-400M model was for production to start in 2019, but the first test aircraft has not even been completed, which should happen in the next few months so the production line seems to be definitively canceled. The big difference in relation to the Il-96-300 variant is the increased length of the fuselage to allow the transport of more passengers. The jet, however, continues to use PS-90A turbojets, which are not as efficient, but develop a more powerful version of propulsion.
Ilyushin says that the Il-96-400M’s glass cockpit allows the crew to be three people, which is inconsistent with Western standards. The manufacturer also adds that the fuselage received new and lightweight materials that reduced the weight of the jet, as well as aerodynamic improvements on the wings. The dimensions of the aircraft is 64 meters long and has a wingspan of 60 meters, with a capacity of 150,000 liters of fuel, the Il-96-400 will be able to fly for 8,750 km, according to official data from the manufacturer.

MyJet Xpress Airlines obtiene mayor aprobación solicitud ATR
MyJet Xpress air traffic authorizations
MyJet Xpress Airlines gets further ATR application approval
Republic of Malaysia cargo carrier MyJet Xpress Airlines has received clearance for the largest number of Air Traffic Rights (ATR) applications approved in the first quarter of the year (1Q2021), said the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom). The subsidiaries and partners of MyJet Xpress are Neptune Capital Inc of Malaysia, Airmark Aviation, My Indo Airlines of Indonesia. In a press release, Mavcom said that of the twenty-four ATR approvals for Q1 2021, MyJet Xpress received the highest number of approvals, with a total of twelve ATRs, following Malaysia Airlines Bhd with six, AirAsia Group Bhd with four and Raya Airways Sdn Bhd with two ATR approvals. In its first quarter ATR report released on 04/19, Mavcom said that ATR requests in the quarter registered 100% commission approval on the 24 ATR requests received from airlines. Some twenty-one routes were assigned from the ATRs for international routes, while the remaining three are for domestic routes. The commission said the ATR application rate dropped by 51.7% in contrast to 43 ATR requests in the last quarter of 2020, with an increase of 33.33% compared to 18 ATR requests in 1Q2020.
Mavcom Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim said that in light of the impact of Covid-19, the commission recognizes and continues to analyze the challenges airlines are facing. «We are pleased to note that the relaxed condition provided to airlines can support the continued recovery of the sector as it gradually prepares for the resumption of full services in the future. Along with this, the commission continues to see healthy growth in the segment. of cargo given the accelerated and growing demand for logistics needs. This demonstrates the agility and resilience of the sector in overcoming the pandemic, as we expect a positive development for the nation’s aeronautical sector».
Meanwhile, Mavcom said the quarter noted extraordinary circumstances, for which no expiration of ATRs was recorded due to the commission’s implementation of measures to alleviate the challenges airlines face during the pandemic. This conditionality facility was implemented to ease the airlines’ administrative and regulatory challenges and allowed them to keep their current ATR portfolio active. This marks the second consecutive quarter without any expiration of the ATRs. However, this does not apply to ATRs that have been deemed expired and automatically revoked, as well as to ATRs for routes that airlines have deliberately terminated of their own free will.

MyJet Xpress mendapat kelulusan permohonan ATR lebih lanjut
Syarikat penerbangan kargo Republik Malaysia MyJet Xpress Airlines Sdn Bhd telah menerima izin untuk jumlah permohonan Hak Lalu Lintas Udara (ATR) terbesar yang diluluskan pada suku pertama tahun ini (1Q2021), kata Suruhanjaya Penerbangan Malaysia (Mavcom). Anak syarikat dan rakan kongsi MyJet Xpress adalah Neptune Capital Inc of Malaysia, Airmark Aviation, My Indo Airlines of Indonesia.

Gulf Air launches Manama-Tel Aviv
Bahrain National Airline to Start Direct Flights 06/2021
Gulf Air has announced the inauguration of flights from Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Tel Aviv, Israel. The airline announced on Sunday 04/18 that it will begin offering direct flights between Manama and Tel Aviv from June 3, 2021. Economy class tickets are expected to cost around US$ 299 per seat, the airline said. Israeli airlines are also expected to establish routes to Bahrain soon.
Abraham Agreement
The flights are the latest in a series of moves bringing Israel closer to the Gulf since the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain established full diplomatic relations with the Jewish state under the Abraham Accords, a pact negotiated under former US President Donald Trump. Since then, the UAE has started flying to Tel Aviv, while El Al Airlines and Arkia Airlines continue to fly the commercial route.
The accords broke with the long-standing Arab notion that there should be no normalization with Israel until it reaches a comprehensive peace agreement with the Palestinians. Regional heavyweight Saudi Arabia has so far refrained from formalizing ties with Israel, but has given the go-ahead for overflights of the Jewish state, an implicit sign of approval.
