American destino Jamaica/OCJ

AW | 2022 04 05 12:47 | AIRLINES ROUTES

American Airlines incrementa rutas hacia Antillas

AW-AMR__Envoy Air

American destination Jamaica/OCJ

American Airlines increases routes to the Antilles

American Airlines continues to increase its services to the Caribbean with a new route to Jamaica. The Fort Worth (TX)-based airline will connect from its Miami/MIA hub to Ocho Rios/OCJ, Jamaica, beginning November 5, 2022. The service will be operated by American Eagle’s regional partner, Envoy Air, aboard an Embraer E175. The flight will operate twice a week (2Frq/S), on Wednesdays and Saturdays. American will become the only airline by that date serving Ocho Rios/Ian Fleming International Airport.

Tickets for the new route are available for purchase through American’s website. Introductory fares start at US$ 515 round trip up to US$ 1,300 for first class. «As we celebrate our 45th anniversary in Jamaica, we are delighted to launch our third destination on the island, Ocho Rios, becoming the first U.S. airline to offer access to this Caribbean paradise», José A. Freig, Vice President of Services, said in a statement. International and Premium of American Airlines.

Focus on the Caribbean

The addition of a new Caribbean roadmap pin comes as American has historically been one of the strongest of the major network carriers in the region, thanks to the favorable position of its Miami hub.

American’s new Ochos Rios flight joins its existing service to Kingston/KIN and Montego Bay/MBJ from various hubs throughout its domestic network, as well as a new year-round route between Montego Bay/MBJ and Austin/ AUS, which begins June 4, 2022. American is planning more than 7,700 flights to and from the region during December 2022.

Meanwhile, United Airlines will fly roughly 3,300, while Delta Air Lines is scheduled to fly just over 2,900 during the same time period. American faces stiff competition on some of the Caribbean islands from its low-cost competitors, including JetBlue Airlines and Spirit Airlines, which offer extensive point-to-point networks to sun-and-fun destinations. This is not the first time that American has opened up a new Caribbean market for US-based travelers. In December 2021, American added flights to Anguilla/AXA, becoming the first US airline to connect the island to the mainland.

The American Airlines network has been quite successful throughout its history, which allows us to predict an increase in daily frequencies to leisure destinations, a good sign in a competitive market for Caribbean routes.

Works at Posadas Airport

Work begins at Posadas Airport
ANAC must define an alternative runway

The Posadas International Airport/PSS, located in the Province of Misiones, will enter the maintenance works stage next Tuesday 04/05. In the first stage of resurfacing, regular flights will not be affected. It aims to improve security conditions and remodeling of the Control Tower. The airport has 329 hectares and is operated by Aeropuerto Argentina 2000.

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, the remodeling works of the Posadas Airport will begin, which will continue to operate with the flight plans that regularly land and take off from that place until such time as the tasks require the temporary closure of the terminal; but there is no official date for that yet. The works that will be carried out shortly are the rehabilitation of the pavements of the runway and taxiways. They will be carried out simultaneously with those defined in runway security strips and taxiways, explained from the ANAC.

The Posadas/Libertador General José de San Martín International Airport has an area of 329 hectares and is operated by the company Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. After almost twelve years, an important improvement work will be carried out, among others, on the runway with the resurfacing “The works approved by the National Civil Aviation Administration (Anac) to be carried out by Aeropuertos Argentinas 2000 at the Libertador General José de San Martín international airport in the city of Posadas will begin on April 5 and initially the air station will remain operational”, expressed ANAC Argentina.

This information on the start of the infrastructure works at the airport in the capital of Misiones will be officially communicated by Notam to the airlines that fly to that terminal so that they are aware of the changes that are going to take place in the dynamics of passenger transport. passengers. According to official sources, «the works initially allow the airport to continue operating, but it will surely have to be closed later because there are works on the runway surface and in the control tower that require leaving the station out of service while they are being carried out, but we do not yet know what that closing date is”, they communicated from the ANAC.

The Aviation Agency of the ANAC Argentina is the highest Argentine aeronautical authority in charge of supervising and controlling the aerial activity that crosses the Argentine skies and also everything related to the security of the air terminals. For this reason, it will be the official body in charge of supervising all the works carried out at the Posadas Airport. The national body will also be in charge of deciding when the capital’s airport will be out of service and where the flights that usually land there will be diverted, while the necessary constructions are carried out to provide that terminal with higher levels of air safety.

There are three possibilities for directing flights to Posadas: Iguazú/IGR International Airport, Corrientes/CRQ International Airport and Encarnación/ENO Airport in the Republic of Paraguay. But it is not yet defined which of these three terminals will supplant the Posadeño airport by the time the works force a temporary closure for security reasons.

The Minister of Tourism of Misiones, José María Arrúa, had affirmed last week that the Encarnación Airport would be an alternative for operations for sixty days, the time expected for the final works to last. Meanwhile, from Aerolíneas Argentinas they propose the Iguazú Airport. It will depend on the decision made by the ANAC. Unofficially, June 2022 is the probable date for the closure of the Posadeño airport. It is estimated that it will be closed for three months from mid-June to mid-September. Both the time that the work will last and the place that will be used temporarily remain to be defined.
