Incautan avión iraní en Argentina

AW | 2022 06 12 12:16 | GOVERNMENT / AIRLINES

Aeronave venezolana supuesta propiedad Mahan Air
Alerta supuesta actividad revolucionaria

Iranian plane seized in Argentina

Venezuelan aircraft allegedly owned by Mahan Air
Alert alleged revolutionary activity

The airline of the Islamic Republic of Iran denies links with the plane seized in the Argentine Republic. The Venezuelan-flagged cargo aircraft would allegedly belong to Iran’s Mahan Air. One day after Argentina seized a Venezuelan-flagged cargo plane at Buenos Aires Airport and detained its crew, Iran’s main private airline denied on Sunday 06/12 reports that the plane belonged to it.

In a statement, Mahan Air said the plane seized in Argentina was owned by Venezuela and had nothing to do with the Iranian airline. The aircraft, a Venezuelan-flagged Boeing 747, allegedly owned by Iran’s Mahan Air, was seized by the Argentine civil aviation authorities immediately after its arrival at the Ezeiza International Airport on Saturday 06/11, at the same time that international emergencies jumped about this aircraft in flight to the southern country. In the incident that took place during the visit of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to Tehran, the cargo plane included in the US blacklist was immobilized and the five-member crew was detained at the airport.

Argentine Security Minister Fernández Aníbal took to Twitter to confirm the incident, linking the seized plane to Iran’s Mahan Air and saying the five men detained were carrying Iranian passports. Reports in the Argentine media said the plane had been leased by Venezuela’s state-owned Conviasa Airlines. Some reports also linked the detained crew to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Mahan Air, however, dismissed the reports, saying ownership of the plane had been transferred to a Venezuelan company for a year and was not leased. The flight crew, he said, were from Venezuela and had nothing to do with Mahan Air. The statement further said that the seizure of the plane was politically motivated.

The incident came hours after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro held talks with senior Iranian officials, including Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, in which the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding ties in the face of US sanctions. .

Mahan Air was placed in October 2011 on a sanctions list by the US Department of the Treasury, linking it to the IRGC’s Quds Force. In November 2021, the airline was hit by a major cyber attack. The hackers said they were seeking to obtain documents linking the airlines to the IRGC. Mahan Air, however, said it had thwarted the attack.

Confiscated passports

The passports of five Iranian passengers traveling on the plane were seized, some of whom are allegedly linked to the IRGC, according to Iran International, a London-based, Saudi-sponsored Iranian news television station. The five passengers were identified as Mohammad Khosravi Aragh, Gholamreza Ghasemi, Mahdi Mouseli, Saeid Valizadeh and Abdolbaset Mohammadi.

Aproximan huelga de pilotos en Brussels Airlines

Aw-Brussels Airlines__New Isologotype

Brussels could go strike

Pilot strike approaching at Brussels Airlines

AW-Brussels Airlines_Isologotype_newbrand 2021

The airline Brussels Airlines, owned by the Lufthansa Group, has broken off negotiations with the union group. Belgium’s largest airline has broken off negotiations with the pilots, who have submitted a call for an indefinite strike, still without a specific date. Next Wednesday 06/15, in an assembly, the pilots will decide if they make use of the strike notice issued. If they did, the most likely dates would be in the first half of July 2022, said the socialist-leaning BBTK Union. This is not an ideological conflict because the ACV Christian Union also adheres to the claim.

Brussels Airlines is the former heir to Sabena Airlines which, after bankruptcy, became Brussels Airlines, with the participation of Lufthansa as the main shareholder. The company, in addition to European regional flights, operates an international network with a special presence in the former Belgian colony in Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it has a significant market share. Likewise, the company has the traditional routes of a flag carrier, with links to the United States and the Far East.

Brussel zou kunnen gaan staken

Pilotenstaking nadert bij Brussels Airlines

AW-Brussels Airlines_Isologotype_newbrand 2021

Aeroflot pide rescate € 3.000 millones

AW | 2022 06 11 12:12 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Bloqueo a Rusia genera dificultades económicas
Compañía aérea solicita rescate financiero

AW-Aeroflot_Icon

Aeroflot asks for € 3 billion ransom

Blockade of Russia generates economic difficulties
Airline company requests financial bailout

AW-Aeroflot__A330-2001

The western economic boycott sinks the airline Aeroflot Russian Airlines, which continues to drag serious problems due to the health crisis, added to the western blockade generated by the war in Ukraine. The Russian government that has promoted the war in Ukraine, is now facing a severe economic crisis with the state airline Aeroflot that has come to ask for a rescue of € 3,000 million Euros/₽ 185 billion Rubles, as a result of the financial disaster that has provoked the war in its activity.

The formula to obtain an injection of cash has been the issuance of 5,420 million new shares, which leave the old participation of the state in the company almost worthless. In reality, Aeroflot currently has almost no real value since it is barely operating on the domestic market, while it has serious difficulties flying abroad. At this time, the crisis has worsened the also bleak outlook for Aeroflot at the beginning of the year, when it only carried two-thirds of the passengers before the pandemic. But the western economic boycott has been very powerful, closing the operation to the European Union, the United States, Great Britain or Canada.

Aeroflot, among other routes, had gained a significant presence in traffic between Europe and the Far East, using Moscow as a hub. To understand the power that it was acquiring in the markets, mention is made of the advertising contract signed with Manchester United, which has been cancelled. In addition, the company cannot fly abroad with its Airbus or Boeing aircraft, as they could be disposed of by the corresponding lessor, while the fleet constitutes 187 units, of which ten could fly abroad without suffering penalties.

Arabia ofrece incentivos aerolíneas

Gobierno busca lanzar rutas no rentables

AW-Saudia Arabia Kingdom__Isologotype

Saudi offers airline incentives

Government seeks to launch unprofitable routes

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced airline incentives as part of the country’s plan to attract more than 100 million visitors by 2030. The incentives are available to any airline, with funding from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The initiative is part of the Saudi Government’s Air Connectivity Program, which aims to better connect Saudi Arabia with the world, in a bid to boost tourist arrivals. The country wants to see more than 100 million visitors by 2030, up from a projected 12 million this year. The Ministry of Tourism, headed by Ahmed Al Khateeb, confirmed the incentive plans, stating: «The main objective is to create direct flights to our main target markets. The program will compensate airlines to cover their losses from flying direct flights to these such important centers for us».

Saudia Arabian Airlines

Under the program promoted by the Saudi Kingdom, an agreement has been signed with Saudia Arabian Airlines to operate flights to Zurich (Switzerland) and Barcelona (Spain), while the flag carrier will analyze what other additional routes it will implement under this modality of government incentives. The airline will play an important role in the country’s connectivity plans, from its main hub at Jeddah/Kind Abdulaziz/JED International Airport.

Economic diversification

Prince Mohammed bin Salman of the Saudi Kingdom has established a national plan to transform the nation into a highly developed country by encouraging local tourism. The nation’s capital Riyadh hopes to be transformed into a global business hub, previously announcing plans to build a new airport in the Kingdom’s capital to expand connection networks. This ties in with a broader US$147 billion project by the government to transform the country into a transport and logistics hub, and to increase the number of direct destinations available from the country from the current 100 to around 250. In addition, they are analyzing the creation of another airline based in Riyadh in order to meet the high demand for not only religious travel, but also tourists and business travelers in Saudi Arabia. General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) Chief Strategy Officer Mohammed Alkhuraisi explained the rationale behind the plans, stating: «Jeddah is the gateway to the two holy mosques and the Red Sea line, while Riyadh it is the business center, and it requires different products».

Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plans are beginning to materialize. Earlier this month, Wizz Air signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Investment, in order to explore opportunities for the ultra-low-cost airline in the country. Also this month, Neom Bay Airport will see its first international flights, a weekly service to Dubai, operated by Saudia. The airport serves the US$ 500 billion city of the future, Neom City, with more international routes, including potential direct services to London, expected to be announced soon.

AW | 2022 06 10 13:51 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

A380 returns to the skies

Flight boom reset ops with Super Jumbo

The Airbus A380s return to the scene after having fallen into disuse as a result of the flight crisis due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The largest commercial aircraft in the world, which practically disappeared from the skies due to the health crisis, returns with new energy to the skies of the most popular routes in the world, seeking a new market opportunity for this type of giant aircraft. On December 16, 2021, Airbus Group delivered the last A380 from its assembly line, ending an era of construction of commercial air transport mega-aircraft.

Reactivating A380

AW-A380__Emirates Airline__004

Airlines turn to A380s, following surge in demand coupled with delays in new aircraft deliveries by major manufacturers; forcing airlines around the world to recover this iconic Airbus model. The British airline British Airways is reactivating all its A380s (12) in the face of the intense growth that it has been experiencing in recent months and, also, with its sights set on the northern summer season; while companies such as Air France and Lufthansa decided to withdraw all aircraft of this model. The cases of Qatar Airways, Emirates Airline, Qantas Airways and Singapore Airlines have progressively reactivated their A380s as high-demand flights recovered.

A380 Program

On December 16, 2021, Airbus Group delivered to Emirates Airline the last A380 to leave its factory. The United Arab Emirates airline is the largest customer of this model, with an updated fleet of 115 units. The largest commercial aircraft in the world, popularly known as the Super Jumbo, has been penalized for its excessive fuel consumption and high production costs. It made its first flight in Toulouse, France, on April 27, 2005.

Approximately two years later, exactly on October 25, 2007, it began its commercial air operations. It was first delivered to Singapore Airlines on October 15, 2007 and entered service on October 25, 2007. Production peaked at thirty aircraft per year in 2012 and 2014. However, after the largest customer, Emirates Airline reduced its last order in February 2019, Airbus announced that production of the A380 would end in 2021. On December 16, 2021, Emirates Airline took delivery of its 123rd A380, which was the 251st off the production line and the last delivered by Airbus. The initial investment for the A380 Program valued at US$25 billion was not recovered.
