AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Avianca will incorporate two Airbus A330-300 aircraft, making the company the first operator in Latin America

The two Aisbus A330-300, previously registered as B-22101 with serial number SN1357 and B-22102 with serial number SN1378, are equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 700 and will receive the registration of Avianca N803AV and N804AV, respectively.  In accordance with Colombian legislation, aircraft records are made with the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States.

The plane will be received from TransAsia Airways, along with two additional Airbus A321CEO aircraft. A321 of TransAsia Airways, previously registered as B-22608 with serial number SN6009 and B-22610 with serial number SN6294, will adopt N805AV and N810AV.The Taiwanese airline had to sell part of its fleet in the midst of financial difficulties after suffering two accidents in the span of seven months.

Both A330-300 will cover the continental routes, while allowing Avianca to use the Dreamliner for the European and foreign markets. In 2018, Avianca also hopes to open a new route from Bogotá to Munich, Germany.

The -300 series is the largest version of the Airbus 330, since it can accommodate up to 440 passengers, but is normally configured in a 277 to 390 seat design. Currently, Avianca’s A330-200 fleet can accommodate 244 passengers in a two-class configuration.

This addition will allow the Colombian airline to transfer two of its A330-200 aircraft to its sister airline Avianca Brasil, which is resuming its international expansion following Brazil’s economic recession. The goal of these two planes is to reinforce their popular London route.

Avianca Holdings operates a fleet of more than 150 aircraft, most composed of Airbus models ranging from the A320 family to the A330 family, to more than 100 destinations served by its subsidiaries in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Central America. In countries such as Argentina and Brazil, a trademark agreement allows local companies to operate under its name. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Interjet denies cannibalization fleet SSJ-100

Resultado de imagen para Interjet logoMexican airline Interjet has denied media reports that it is cannibalizing Sukhoi SSJ-100 aircraft

Interjet has announced that its four Sukhoi SSJ-100 aircraft that are under maintenance are not being affected as part of spare parts for the active fleet of 18 aircraft.

At the beginning of January 2018, alleged cannibalization processes were reported for the fleet of four Sukhoi Super Jet SSJ-100 aircraft that were in maintenance, to supply the need for spare parts to the fleet of 18 active aircraft of the Interjet company.

«We totally disagree with the statements that these planes are being cannibalized or that the planes are slowly being scrapped for spare parts. [All four planes] are scheduled to return to full service between January-March 2018», he said. a statement by the Mexican airline in rumors unfounded by the news agency Bloomberg.

The airline noted that the four aircraft SSJ-100 that are in maintenance has not affected the operations of the airline, nor is the safety of the fleet compromised due to lack of spare parts. Although it is common in the areas of aviation maintenance a slow response from the aviation material distributors or cannibalization practices to provide material for active fleets, this would not jeopardize the fleet of the four SSJ-100 found in the area of Maintenance of the company Interjet for the purpose of scrapping.

The role of the SSJ-100 in Interjet

Imagen relacionadaThe Mexican airline Interjet says that the Russian SSJ-100 aircraft is of strategic importance for its operations. «The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is popular with Interjet, as it plays a very strategic role in allowing us to penetrate the mid-density markets in Mexico, expanding our overall coverage. There is no other 100-seat regional jet available with the ability to operate efficient in the complex operating environment, altitude and extreme temperatures that characterize Mexico», said the airline.

The SSJ-100 allows the airline to improve the general levels of use of aircraft, allowing to reduce the number of aircraft needed in the fleet to carry out its service network. Due to the low acquisition cost, it is a very flexible fleet for the company.

«We continue to expand our service by increasing frequencies and adding new markets, and no other aircraft manufacturer could offer a comparable competitive offer such as Sukhoi», the Interjet airline said in the statement. A \ W

Protestas paro en Latam Argentina

AW | 2018 01 18 17:21 | AIRLINES / AIR TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Protests strike in Latam Argentina

Latam Airlines Argentina could resort to a stoppage of activities on Friday

The five Argentine aeronautical guilds, UPSA, APTA, APA, APLA and ATCPEA decided to take force measures in the Latam Argentina Group starting from the first hour of Friday, so «the ground workers, the cabin crew, the pilots, technicians and superior personnel will not guarantee the services», after expired «the deadlines of the obligatory conciliation and the instances of the parity dialogue».

This Wednesday afternoon the Press Secretary of the UPSA, Marcelo Uhrich, representing the Associations of the Aeronautical Technical Personnel (APTA), the Aeronautical Personnel (APA), the Airline Pilots (APLA), the Cabin Crew Passengers of Aerocomerciales Companies (ATCPEA) and of the own UPSA (Union of the Superior Personnel and Professional of Aero-commercial Companies), indicated the leader.

On Friday, there will be protests and assemblies in the Jorge Newbery and Ezeiza airports of ground staff, superior, cabin crew, pilots and technicians, which «does not guarantee any kind of air services,» he said. The union organizations avoided the direct call for a general strike to prevent the immediate intervention of the labor portfolio with new conciliations, resolutions or declarations of illegality of the measure, said the sources. «After the expiration of all the conciliatory deadlines (Law 14,786) and the instances of joint dialogue, beyond the legal times, from the first hours of Friday the unions do not guarantee the normal operation of Latam Argentina flights», said Uhrich.

The parity in the Latam Group expired on December 31, 2017 and the conciliation deadlines are down, while a statement from the five unions urged the company to resolve the wage dispute from the consequences it will have on the service due to employer intransigence, which did not make any proposal exceeding the original 17% recomposition.

The five aeronautical unions clarified that at all times they proposed instances of dialogue, already exhausted by «the inflexible business position, which refuses to recognize inflation, and therefore there is an unwanted conflict.» However, the unions are still committed to dialogue and They urge the company to solve the conflict to avoid interruption of services.

Norwegian start-up 2Q2018 en Argentina

AW | 2018 01 17 15:41 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Norwegian start-up 2Q2018 in Argentina

Awesome-Norwegian-Air-Logo-22-On-Free-Logo-Design-Templates-with-Norwegian-Air-LogoThe arrival of Norwegian Air will deepen the low-fare market in Argentina

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA the parent company of one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe and one of the largest in the world has planned its landing in Argentina. A new chapter opens the opportunity for many Argentines to travel for the first time, thanks to their offers of cheap flights.

The Boeing 737 fleet

The operations fleet will be focused on the Boeing 737-800, an aircraft suitable for high demand flights widely used by low cost airlines in the world. The future projections between five and twelve years include adding approximately 60 Boeing 737-800, for cabotage operations and Boeing 787-8 for international vielos.

The assigned routes

imagesThe set-up or star-up of Norwegian Air Argentina has planned to start cabotage operations in Argentina at the middle of the year (2Q2018). The concessions for the exploitation of Norwegian routes were approved a total of 152 journeys. Cabotage routes and 80 regional/international routes were authorized by the ANAC.

The routes requested by Norwegian highlight many connections between cities in the interior of Argentina and the opening of flights where Argentina has never had the possibility of connecting with direct flights such as the cases of Honolulu (Hawaii), Moscow (Russia) or Tahiti. (French Polynesia).

Norwegian expects to start operations in June 2018. Córdoba, Mendoza are among the airline’s initial destinations. When analyzing the concessions that will be covered by the low cost airline, most of the cities in Argentina will be listed. Undoubtedly these will be incorporated gradually to the Norwegian network. The company follows industry standards to analyze the potential of a route and its entire network. The arrival of new airplanes allows to study the availability of the crew, the timing, the routes, among other matters. For this, a route begins to be planned two years before it is inaugurated.

Argentina, with greater competitiveness

Norwegian is one of the airlines that presented its proposal to operate in the country and compete with others such as American Jet Líneas Aéreas, Andes Líneas Aéreas, Alas del Sur, Avianca, Buenos Aires International Airlines, Flybondi, Flyest Líneas Aéreas, Just Flight, LASA Líneas Aéreas, Polar Líneas Aéreas, among others, that have requested permits for the exploitation of services in Argentina. Together with them, the binomial Aerolíneas Argentinas/Austral Líneas Aéreas, Andes Líneas Aéreas, Latam Airlines and the foreign airlines operating in the country join the competition to raise better service quality and better prices for passengers.

Investments in Argentina

The intention of the Government of Argentina to deepen the aero commercial market by renewing, expanding and improving the airport infrastructure of the country. Although at present Argentina is not prepared for the air boom, they maximize efforts to adapt to the time of changes with the «Aircraft Revolution» proposed by the Government of Mauricio Macri.

In December 2017, El Palomar Airport adhered to the National Airport System (SNA), granting the concession to Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 to start with the air conditioning refurbishment works.

Projections of Norwegian Air Argentina

The arrival in 1Q2017 of Norwegian Air as of other airlines in Argentina with the opening of air routes will allow users to fly more with improvements in services due to competitiveness: better fares, more destinations and more offer.

The setting up of a start-up demands according to the resources of an airline or the governmental administrations in turn. The case of Norwegian Air Argentina allows its safe advance with the implementation in January 2018 of the first Boeing 737-80 Next Genertion. The work team consists of 12 people. They estimate to incorporate 2018 between 300 and 500 employees between management, crew, pilots and operations. In terms of logistics, the company will have its operations bases in Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, El Palomar Airport and Ezeiza Airport.

The growth of an airline is gradual because several elements are adjusted after the start of operations. For example, make effective improvements in infrastructure and the way in which airlines operate in Argentina. The Government is doing a lot to accommodate this growth, such as works at airports.

Low-cost vs Low-fare

At Norwegian we think that the term «low-cost» demands an unclear vision of the concept of «lowering» costs in the quality and operation of an airline. Rather we are related to the word «low-fare» (low price) to improve in Argentina the indroduction of a new concept of flying. In Brazil, Gol Linhas Aéreas made a custom change among transport users. More passengers started flying for the first time there in the year 2005.

When we started flying in Norway in 2002, Norwegian Air Shuttle had a critical size of an airline to reach profitability was 15 aircraft, then 30, 50 and currently is 130 aircraft. Competition in Europe has grown, but in Norwegian they are always confident that it is for the benefit of the passengers. In Argentina, competitiveness will also benefit air transport users. Although the market will be adjusted according to the operators, as if it were a game of chess, each piece movement is vital to keep flying. The sector of low-cost/low-fare companies in the world have allowed to capture a portion of the market of the «legacy carriers» (carriers of inheritance) such as Aerolíneas Argentinas/Austral Líneas Aéreas, but these have a growth of the order of the 15% when a low cost arrives. On the other hand, the highest market share of a low-cost airline is obtained from the captive passenger. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The President of Airbus América Latina, Rafael Alonso Guzmán, was present, noting that this purchase «is part of the largest order that Airbus has ever had in history: 430 aircraft worth nearly U$S 50,000 million made by Indigo Partners», fund of American investment and shareholder of Volaris.

Volaris is an airline in Mexico, expanding its services to Central America, the Caribbean and the United States. It currently has 71 aircraft, will receive the first 40 aircraft between 2018 and 2021 and the rest between 2022 and 2026, as part of an aircraft acquisitions agreement of the Indogo Partners Group of the United States.

Alonso Guzmán explained that the A320 is «the newest and most efficient model of the 320 family, incorporating the newest technologies», including low fuel consumption.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto stressed that once the aircraft arrive in Mexico, 25,000 jobs will have been generated, which will double what the airline currently has.

Volaris expansion

Volaris operates 96 domestic and 78 international flights at 40 Mexican airports and 29 abroad. In 2017, it has transported more than 320,000 passengers and since its founding has added more than 80 million.

The CEO of Volaris also announced that on Monday an alliance with the US Frontier Airlines to fly under shared code was finalized, an agreement must still be authorized by aeronautical authorities.

Codeshare Frontier-Volaris

A320_griz_72dpi-01 (1).jpgFrontier Airlines and Volaris have signed a code-share agreement, and sales will begin in the coming months.

The bi-directional shared code, subject to regulatory approval, will allow the two airlines to add 20 new destinations, says Volaris CEO Enrique Beltranena. 80 new routes will be launched between the United States and Mexico. Sales of code-sharing flights will begin in the spring, say the two operators.

The two airlines currently do not overlap on any route. Both operators operate aircraft of the Airbus A320 family, and recently increased their orders with an order of 430 aircraft of the A320neo family by Indigo that was reaffirmed at the end of 2017. Frontier will receive 100 A320NEO’s and 34 A321NEO’s, while Volaris will receive 46 A320NEO’s and 34 A321NEO’s.

The bid for the market

The European manufacturer Airbus exceeded once again in 2017 its big rival Boeing in number of orders to receive 1,109 against 912 of the American firm. The Airbus A320 is one of the most sold aircraft in the history of aviation to exceed 7,000 orders of this model. Boeing surpassed Airbus in delivered aircraft, with a total of 763 against 718, which is nevertheless a record for the European manufacturer. A \ W

Proceso privatización Pakistan Airlines

AW | 2018 01 16 15:30 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Privatization process of Pakistan Airlines

Pakistan International Airlines will finalize privatization process in April 2018

The government of Pakistan is determined to finalize the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by April 15, 2018. At a press conference today in the capital of Pakistan, Minister of Privatization Daniyal Azizdi reported that the private sector operates airlines in several countries around the world, adding that state airlines around the world are generally at a loss.

Resultado de imagen para Pakistan Airlines png«The privatization of airlines creates an environment of competitiveness», Azizdi said, adding that several airlines in the world, which emerged after the formation of the PIA, proved to be much more successful.

PIA has been affected by the turmoil of the administration in recent years and a plane crash in 2016 that caused 47 deaths.

PIA was one of the 68 state-owned companies privatized in exchange for a package of 6.7 billion dollars from the International Monetary Fund that helped the government avoid default in 2013. Despite some initial successes, the process stalled in 2016 after the staff protests wreaked havoc on PIA operations and the government passed a law that effectively made it impossible to privatize the airline.
