AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Austral proposes purchase of aircraft

Austral Líneas Aéreas will deprogram its Embraer E190-100AR when a commitment is obtained to acquire new aircraft for fleet replacement

All White Boeing 737-700 IllustrationAerolíneas Argentinas formally started the process to get rid definitively of the Embraer planes, by new aircraft for the Austral Líneas Aéreas fleet. Although the company reported that the replacement would be for aircraft of equal size in the Aerolineas Argentinas fleet, the Boeing 737, this week, the company sent a proposal to the four major global players in the sector. Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier that will be the bidders for the replacement of the 26 Embraer E190-100AR aircraft of Austral Líneas Aéreas, of which 24 are under ownership and two acquired through the leasing system.

From the company argue that the Embraer E190 have completed a stage in Austral, as the aviation market is increasing the number of passenger traffic. Due to the higher demand, the E-190 aircraft are adjusted to the demand, and the crew costs are practically the same as a projected flight with a Boeing 737-700 / 800.

Regardless of the results of the negotiations with the different aircraft manufacturers, the strongest position is a homoganeisation of the aircraft fleet that will result in operational benefits for the Aerolíneas Group. One option would be studying a fleet for Austral Boeing 737-700 aircraft adjusted to the market of the group’s regional airline.

104482Case of the Embraers in Austral

The Aerolíneas Group notified the lessors of the 24 Embraers that the sale process is approved for sale. Due to the high charges and high acquisition costs of the E-190, the market showed great interest in a package of aircraft of this type. The decision to purchase Brazilian aircraft had a political and an economic component. Brazil financed the purchase through its development bank BNDES. The current executives tried to renegotiate the debt that is around U $ S 280 million dollars. Since the financial showed little interest in the Argentina offer. The Aerolíneas Group then decided to cancel it unilaterally in advance, obtaining a commercial credit that, according to financial projections, will be between 3 and 4 points less than the one delivered by the BNDES. The operation has already been approved by the Ministry of Finance.

In this way the formal exit of the Embraer will begin. But first we must pay attention to the cause in which we investigate the supposed surcharge of U$S 5 million that would have been paid for each one of them. The beginning of a stage of investigations has begun, a presumed fraud that could be around U$S 120 million, splashing the political and commercial elite. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

From Mendoza, the flights will be to Bariloche (from 30/1) and Iguazú (1/2).

The market

«We are not here to steal passengers from other airlines or other means. The market we target is the large number of people who stay at home during weekends watching television and now they will be able to go to Bariloche, Mendoza or Iguazú because prices will allow it. Many people will also be able to visit their relatives and friends in the interior of the country more frequently; and others will be able to live in one city and work in another, going a couple of times a week to meetings. In addition, we intend to lower prices in tourist destinations during the off-season», said the CEO of Flybondi. A\W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Alaska Airlines has added its first Airbus A320CEO to its fleet

After the Department of Transportation approved the merger between Alaska Airlines and Virgin America Airlines, parent company Alaska Airlines has incorporated a new line of aircraft into its fleet, the first Airbus A320CEO. The aircraft had previously been used under the signature of Virgin America, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group based in Seattle.

The new Airbus A320-200 aircraft with N625VA registration has been complemented to the Alaska Airlines fleet. It uses CFM International CFM56 engines. The plane is twelve years old.

Alaska Airlines has added to its fleet of aircraft a new product line Airbus A320-200CEO, using a paint scheme similar to that used throughout the company, the Eskimo logo of Alaska.

Alaska acquired Virgin America in December 2016, initiating a process of merging actions and image. The Airbus A320-200 from Virgin America is in the process of repainting in the colors of Alaska Airlines.

The company has said it expects to completely eliminate the Virgin brand by the end of 2019.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

FlyNiki, the return to the origins

Niki Lauda buys the low-cost Austrian airline Niki

Niki Lauda will buy the assets of the airline Niki, which he founded in 2003, announced on Tuesday the administrators of this ex-Air Berlin airline.

The Spanish-British group IAG, formed by British Airways (BA), Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus – will not finally buy the insolvent airline NIKI, which will return to its founder, former Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda, announced today in Vienna bankruptcy proceedings.

History of a return

Niki Lauda, former Formula 1 world champion, was expelled from Lauda Air due to discrepancies with the board of directors in November 2000. In 2003, Niki Lauda bought the former airline Aero Lloyd Austria. The new airline began operations on November 28, 2003, using the name FlyNiki temporarily. On January 9, 2004, Niki announced its cooperation with Air Berlin. The two airlines considered the new agreement as a low-cost alliance. Air Berlin owns 24% of Niki and Niki Lauda owns the rest of the shares. In 2017, airberlin ceased operations and on December 14 of this same year Niki filed for bankruptcy, as did the company Air Berlin a few months earlier. The current situation has led Niki Lauda to take control of his former airline Niki.

Acquisition of Niki

The creditors of Niki announced today the unanimous result of the deliberations in a statement by which finally the offer of Niki Lauda was superior to that of the Spanish-British group IAG, which had been chosen in December as a favorite, before that decision was canceled It was the third purchase offer presented by Lauda since September 2017. After a transparent tender, the Laudamotion GmbH company won first morning as the highest bidder, according to the Austrian and German administrators of the airline. A\W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Norwegian Air Shuttle establishes record of subsonic flight over the Atlantic

A Norwegian Airlines flight that included the New York-London route on January 15, 2018 obtained the record in the shortest time of trajectory. The passengers arrived 53 minutes ahead of schedule, becoming the fastest flight ever recorded in a commercial subsonic aircraft. The final flight time was 5 hours and 13 minutes.

The time came thanks to better than expected weather conditions and a strong tailwind, which helped the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to gain three minutes from the previous record, held on a British Airways 2015 route that spanned 5 hours and 16 minutes Even so, the Norwegian flight captain said that an even faster time could be in the cards.

«We were really in the air for just over five hours, and if it had not been for the turbulence predicted at a lower altitude, we could have flown even faster», said Captain Harold van Dam at Norwegian in a statement. A \ W
