AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

The expanding market
With the Boeing 737 MAX, airlines hope to fly short transatlantic routes without compromising passenger or cargo capacity. Norwegian hopes to increase frequencies from Europe to the United States.

Currently, Norwegian uses larger aircraft for larger market transatlantic routes using Boeing 787 aircraft on its routes to New York and Los Angeles, where larger markets demand a higher capacity aircraft.

Southwest, the first that was not
Texas-based Southwest Airlines, United Stadiums, had been the launching airline for the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The American company has had to postpone those that would be first deliveries in the world of Boeing 737-8 MAX, by a matter of regulations of American standards.

The FAA regulates the subject of the licenses of the pilots, not admitting that a same Pilot is certified for the second-generation Boeing (series 300, 400, 500) and the fourth generation, the modern MAX. In this way, Southwest Airlines pilots consider that if the 737 MAX is a new aircraft for the FAA, they must negotiate their incorporation, that is, new salary tables for the model. Thus, Southwest Airlines was forced to negotiate and reschedule the incorporation of the most modern Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. A \ W

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Iberia to incorporate 20 A320NEO

Iberia to incorporate 20 A320NEO aircraft into its short and medium range fleet

Iberia has signed an order for 20 aircraft of the A320NEO family to European aeronautical manufacturer Airbus that will begin to reach its fleet in the first half of next year, announced today its executive president, Luis Gallego.

In his speech at an event organized by the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and CEPYME, Gallego has detailed that 17 devices will be of the A320NEO model and three of the A321NEO, whose catalog price as a whole amounts to 1,840 million dollars .

After noting that the definitive price is lower, since, being part of a larger order of the group IAG, which includes Iberia, it has been possible to negotiate with Airbus, Gallego has highlighted that it is a more advanced aircraft Technologies and «especially efficient in fuel consumption».

Iberia starts the renewal of the short and medium-haul fleet in parallel with that of its long-range aircraft, which has incorporated 18 A330 from 2013 and is awaiting delivery by the European multinational of 16 A350- 900, which will begin to arrive next year. The renewal of the fleet is part of the transformation plan of the company, launched in 2012, and in its aspect of product improvement.

Its other objective is the economic transformation and Iberia has already managed to return to the path of profitability, with an operating profit of 271 million euros in 2016, after six years of losses totaling 1 billion.

The third aspect of the plan is the cultural transformation to offer better services and customer service, where important things are already being achieved, such as punctuality, he stressed.

Finally, digital transformation, without which it is difficult to imagine the future of Iberia, and in general of any company, which compromises all areas of the company and the objective is to work more efficiently and make life easier for the client, Has specified.

Gallego recalled that the crisis «almost led to the disappearance», but in recent years «we have managed to turn the situation around» and put Iberia in the 21st century.

«The pulse has recovered and we can look forward to the future», which has been possible thanks to the integration in IAG that «has given us financial strength» and has allowed us to improve the strategic positioning of the company, in addition to being able to offer a Wide network of flights between all the companies of the group (British Airways, Vueling, Aer Lingus and Level). For the head of Iberia, the key to success has been «to row together and always add» in an «extremely» competitive world such as air transport.

That is why Gallego has stated that its company does not need Ryanair to fuel its long-haul flights, when asked about the recently signed alliance between Air Europa and the low-cost Irish carrier.

«We are fortunate to have a group, where Vueling is, which helps us in connections with Barcelona, Level and Iberia Express, and a sufficiently structured network, so that we do not have to need Ryanair to feed our flights,» he said. Each one has its partners and «it’s good that Air Europe has goals, but we do not need them,» he said.

As for the ‘bréxit’ (the departure of the UK from the EU), which is currently in the negotiation phase, has indicated that although ‘we still do not know what is going to happen’, in Iberia, ‘we are calm Because we are a Spanish company while the IAG group has its headquarters in Spain, has concluded. A\W
