Boeing reduce 777 producción antes del estreno del 777X

Resultado de imagen para Boeing 777 Everett

AW | 2016 12 16 09:30 | INDUSTRY

Boeing cuts 777 production before 777X debut

US based aerospace firm Boeing this week announced that it would reduce the production of its 777 passenger jet.

The company announced that it was forced to make this decision of the back of slowing sales of the aircraft.

According to reporting by The Seattle Times, Boeing will reportedly reduce the number of airframes produced at its Everett, Washington plant from 7 aircraft per month to 5.

This decision follows an earlier decision to cut the production from 8.3 per month (100 per year) earlier this year.

Boeing reportedly has not secured the sale of any more of the aircraft following an earnings call in October when it announced the initial drop in production.

It is so-far unclear what effect this will happen on job levels, however it is almost certain to result in some medium-term job losses.

The Boeing 777 first entered service in 1995, and had previously been one of the company’s best-selling aircraft due to its high-fuel efficiency for its size.

Next-generation 777X

Boeing blames the slowdown in sales on the forthcoming debut of the next generation Boeing 777X aircraft.

This new wide-body aircraft will incorporate many of the new technologies Boeing has implemented in the 787 Dreamliner including composite wings with folding tips, as well as new improved jet engines. If all goes to plan, the first of these new aircraft will be sold to customers in 2020.

The Boeing Everett plant will further cut production of the older 777 in 2018 to begin the production of the first 777x demonstration models.

All up, the reduction in sales of the older 777 will result in an interim loss of incoming for Boeing, however once the 777X production kicks into high gear, it should be able to recoup some of these losses.

According to statements by the company, the 777X will sell for between $370-400m depending on which model is chosen by the customer.

Currently Boeing has secured orders for at least 321 of the new aircraft for a number of customers including Lufthansa, Emirates and Cathay Pacific. A\W

AW | 2016 12 16 09:11 | AIRPORTS

Dubai to invest $ 37.1 billion to build world’s largest airport

The new aerodrome will have capacity to transport 220 million passengers and 16 million tons of cargo per year

Dubai will invest 35.7 billion dollars (37.1 billion euros at current exchange rate) to build the world’s largest airport. The facilities will be held in Dubai World Central and surroundings, including Al Maktoum International Airport (United Arab Emirates). Completion is scheduled for 2028 and will have five runways and a capacity to receive 220 million passengers and 16 million tons of cargo per year.

According to Bloomberg, the project, besides a milestone in infrastructure, will be an investment stimulus. Before laying the foundation stone, the government of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has invited the big investment banks to open the bid for an initial loan of $ 3 billion.

The operation is designed for Dubai to pay a variable interest rate based on the evolution of the air traffic of the two international airports that has UAE. The Government expects air traffic to increase from 78 million passengers to 146 million by 2025.

Al Maktoum Airport was inaugurated in 2010, initially only for freight transport, and last year it received its first passenger flight. Currently, the facilities that will be part of the new airport have a runway adapted for the Airbus 380, 64 hangars for airplanes and a capacity of five million passengers a year in its first terminal.

The air installations are part of the development of Dubai World Central, south of the capital. It is a logistic megacenter of 140 square kilometers with commercial area, residential and a golf course. The complex will host the 2020 global exhibition. A\W

Low-cost airlines expand operations in Central America

Low-cost airlines have reached Central America. The subsidiary of Volaris Mexico has settled in Costa Rica and the other low-cost airline, Wingo, belongs to Copa Holdings. Both airlines started operations last week and are planning to expand their operation in the coming months.

Volaris made its first flight on November 30, between San Jose, Costa Rica and Guatemala. «How blissful, Volaris! Our first Tico plane arrived in Guatemala,» the airline said in its Facebook profile, where it posted a photo of the aircraft.

On the contrary, Wingo made his first flight from Guatemala to San Jose on December 1. Wingo is based in Bogota, Colombia and started operations two weeks ago.

Enrique Beltranena, President of Volaris, explained that the presence of low-cost airlines is a response of the market to the high costs of flights between Central American countries. «Why if the economy grows, why does not the market grow? The answer is that rates are strangling it,» Beltranena told Costa Rican daily La Nación.

«According to data presented by the airline, the cost of air tickets between countries in the region can be up to USD $ 500, when the market allows to offer rates at half that price,» the newspaper added. «The participation of few companies in the market allowed the traditional airlines to charge that amount», affirmed the president of Volaris. Aerolíneas EE.UU despegarían en bolsa para 2017

AW | 2016 12 16 08:57 | AIRLINES MARKET

US airlines to take off in 2017

In a context framed by historic highs in the Dow Jones Transport and aircraft fuel prices moderately higher than oil prices in oil markets, financial analysts believe that if the economy recovers ground, consumer confidence will improve, which Will have a positive impact for some airlines.

This is stated in a report by Bank of America Merrill Lynch (link is external), where they emphasize their observations on the values of airlines that have good qualification of purchase and that can have greater capacity of revaluation. Airlines that excel in this report are Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines.

In the case of Delta, it is always classified as one of the largest capitalization airlines on Wall Street, so Bank of America experts added it to its range of stocks it buys next year.

Wall Street analysts have high regard for Delta’s wide coverage policy (international and regional) among US airlines. As a result, Merrill Lynch raised its target price per share to $ 66 from $ 55. At the moment, the stock value is around $ 50.

As for JetBlue, its shares have performed well since the United States elections, but show a negative performance since last year’s highs.

Although JetBlue’s fourth-quarter figures may have negative impacts (due to Hurricane Matthew travel cancellations), Merrill Lynch remains enthusiastic about the airline as it has raised the target price per share to $ 30 from 28 Above. Currently, JetBlue Airways shares are priced at $ 21.

Finally, Southwest Airlines continues its route expansion strategy, which places it as the leader of the low cost in the US. So it’s one of the best picks on Wall Street for many analysts.

Although their actions have been punished lately, this could offer a point of entry for new investors. Currently, Southwest shareholders receive a dividend whose return amounts to 0.85%. For its part, Merrill Lynch raised the target price per share from 50 to 58 dollars. Today, the stock moves at $ 48.

Reactor fuel prices, which continue to be much lower than in previous years, account for almost 30% of Southwest’s total costs, making it a key factor in improving the revenue and earnings of all airlines. A\W

Alaska Airlines adquiere Virgin America

Resultado de imagen para Alaska Virgin Airlines

AW | 2016 12 16 08:33 | AIRLINES MARKET

Alaska Airlines Acquires Virgin America

The synergy of both airlines makes it the fifth largest airline in the US

Alaska Air Group has closed the acquisition of Virgin America for more than 4 billion dollars, creating the fifth largest airline in the United States. The merger won the Justice Department’s antitrust approval on Dec. 6 after Alaska agreed to reduce its code-share relationship with American Airlines.

Alaska reached an agreement last April 4 to buy Virgin America for 2.6 billion dollars and also assume 1.4 billion dollars in debts and aircraft lease obligations, creating a business value of 4 billion dollars for the transaction.

Combining Alaska’s strong presence in the Pacific Northwest of the United States with Virgin America’s strong presence at major California airports, Alaska believes it can become the leading airline on the West Coast.

The combined Seattle-based company will offer nearly 1,200 daily flights to 118 destinations, generating more than $ 7 billion in annual revenue. The combined fleet comprises 286 aircraft, including more than 150 Boeing 737s and more than 60 aircraft of the Airbus A320 family.

Alaska Airlines said in a statement:

«The combination will expand service and provide more frequent connections to international airline partners in technology markets in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle. Together, airlines offer 289 daily flights to 52 destinations from California, including 113 daily nonstop flights to 32 destinations at three Bay Airports and 105 daily nonstop flights to 37 destinations at four Los Angeles airports. Alaska plans to continue operating the Virgin America fleet with its current name and product for a period of time while conducting extensive customer research. Virgin America will continue to fly under its brand without immediate changes to the product or experience on board.»

Alaska added that the combination will also increase access to major East Coast airports like Washington, New York JFK, New York LaGuardia and New York Newark.

Alaska Executive President Brad Tilden added:

«We appreciate that there is great interest in the future of the Virgin America brand among customers and employees alike. This is a great decision and deserves months of thoughtful and profound analysis. We plan to make a decision on the Virgin America brand early next year.»

Lufthansa acquires 100% of Brussels Airlines

The purchase of Brussels Airlines will close over the next month

Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa have announced that they have reached a definitive agreement for the German airline to acquire 55% of the shares of the Belgian company, which will be with full control of the company.

Lufthansa and the shareholders of SN Airholding, the parent company of Brussels Airlines, have reached an agreement on the buying modalities, so that the board of directors of Lufthansa decided yesterday to exercise its option to buy.

This will take effect on December 31 and the transaction will close in January 2017, in line with the plan advanced by the companies when they announced the operation in September.

Lufthansa, which already owned the remaining 45% of Brussels Airlines’ shares since 2008, will pay 2.6 million euros to effectively take over SN Airholding. This amount is significantly lower than the actual value of the share package, estimated at 150 million.

A spokesman for Lufthansa has indicated that the price has been calculated based on a formula established in the first contract that both airlines signed in 2008.

According to the daily La Libre Belgique, the difference is due to the fact that Lufthansa has made use of a clause that allowed to reduce the price of repurchase if Brussels Airlines had a debt with her, if at the moment.

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr has said that the purchase of Brussels Airlines fits «perfectly» into his company’s strategy, which initially invested in the Belgian airline for «its interest in the African market» and its «competitive prices with growth margin «.

«As the number one airline in Europe we wanted to reach Brussels, which is the most European market of all,» Spohr said.

Following the purchase, Brussels Airlines will operate 23 long-haul flights and 79 routes in Europe under the umbrella of the Eurowings group, although the airline will maintain the Brussels Airlines brand. A\W
