IATA Aviation UK warning

IATA urges airline rescue plan to face acute aviation crisis

The UK has extended unannounced quarantines that have had devastating effects on the country’s powerful outbound tourism industry. The airlines of the United Kingdom of Great Britain are running into serious economic problems, especially affected by the health crisis and limitations in the flight network. Added to the damage of the pandemic, is added the controversial way of acting of the Government in the face of the complicated panorama of the country’s position with respect to Europe.

In a worrying message, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) is adamant about the government’s position, which without immediate action has stated that “the United Kingdom will be left behind and will quickly lose its coveted position as the world’s third largest market. of aviation”. The body that brings together airlines from around the world has called for action for the Executive to activate a rescue plan to avoid an imminent catastrophe in terms of employment. According to IATA estimates, the unprecedented crisis in the airline industry will cause the destruction of more than 820,000 jobs in the country.

IATA urges the United Kingdom to lift the controversial quarantines and implement incentive plans to reactivate demand, in addition to reducing the loads borne by airlines. In the words of its Director General, Alexandre de Juniac, replacing quarantines with Covid-19 tests «would serve to keep people safe from the virus and avoid apocalyptic unemployment levels that would be devastating for both society and the economy». IATA argues that many countries around the world have introduced PCR tests to revive air travel. «It is time for the UK to come up with a similar strategy to work on creating tourist corridors», the airline association said.

LADE strategic development Argentina

LADE Airlines with a strategic role for Argentina

The Minister of Defense of Argentina, Agustín Rossi, has highlighted the decision of the Executive Power of the Nation to ensure that the LADE Líneas Aéreas has a leading role in times of pandemic. «The post-pandemic is going to be fundamental and strategic», in a commercial aviation scenario that will emerge as complex, highlighting the decision of the Government of Argentina to make it «fly again and soar in the skies of our country. We will begin by strengthening its role in Patagonia and once we have stabilized that regime we will be able to develop and imagine ourselves in other regions of Argentina”, said the Minister of Defense when speaking at the commemorative act of the 80th anniversary of the founding of LADE, which was held at the company’s headquarters. In the ceremony, in which the Heads of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Juan Martín Paleo, and of the Air Force, Brigadier Xavier Julián Isaac, among other authorities, participated, the Minister of Defense expressed his “deep appreciation to the military and civilian personnel who works at LADE, without their effort, the company’s course would have been much more complicated”.

According to a statement released by Defense, the official recalled that in mid-2018 LADE flights were reduced to a minimum and that the government of Mauricio Macri “had all the planning done so that the company would stop operating in Argentina. The divestment pointed towards that. When a development line is seen as an expense, the objective of a development line is lost, and the impact that this means for Patagonia, especially ”, he highlighted.

The recovery plan presented now “has the full support of the Ministry of Defense because the role that LADE will play post-pandemic is going to be fundamental and strategic. The commercial aviation system in the world is very complicated and in this scenario this line will have a space to develop”, said Agustín Rossi, who sent his greetings to all the company’s personnel through a videoconference.

For his part, the General Director of LADE, Comodoro Mayor Fabián Vidal Arbeletche, provided a detailed report on the air resources and medium and long-term plans, and stressed the importance of LADE, which in these 80 years “has been uniting Argentines, especially those who live in the provinces of Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego”. He anticipated that with the next incorporation of a Boeing 737-700 aircraft there will be “the possibility of radically increasing the passenger and cargo transfer capacity of the country’s development airline, lost since the Boeing 707s were deactivated. of LADE is being fulfilled”.

LADE Líneas Aéreas is the only state agency for development air transport, dependent on the Argentine Air Force and the Ministry of Defense of the Nation, which was founded on September 4, 1940 to cover the community need to unite the highest density centers population with the remote towns of the vast national territory of southern Argentina, lacking fast and regular means of communication. For many years, LADE operated up to 35 destinations in central and southern Argentina, but due to the lack of a long investment in time and an integrating vision, its activity during the years 2017/18 was reduced to two flights, one weekly and the other biweekly, with only two stops.

LADE milestones

LADE Líneas Aéreas is the oldest development airline in the world. In the history of Argentine aviation, it is the only airline that permanently maintained, between the period 1972-1982, regular flights between Puerto Argentino, in the Malvinas Islands, and Comodoro Rivadavia in the Province of Chubut, which allowed to break the isolation with the southern archipelago, but were interrupted by the war conflict in the South Atlantic.

In addition, the development airline LADE periodically flies to the Argentine Antarctic sector on logistics missions, preserving the heritage and integrating the sovereignty of Argentina. LADE had planned in 2016 to carry out tourist flights to Argentina’s Antarctica, a pending desire in these times necessary to reactivate the tourist economies in such a huge and southern country.

Ethiopian interés por South African

AW | 2020 09 05 14:27 | AIRLINES

Ethiopian interest in South African

Ethiopian Airlines shows interest in South African Airways

Ethiopian Airlines Group is among the companies in talks with the South African government about the possibility of offering support to the country’s insolvent state airline. Africa’s largest Ethiopian airline is considering ways to help South African Airways (SAA) fly again after more than five months of inactivity, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the conversations are private. Participating in the airline is one of the options under discussion, although negotiations are ongoing.

South Africa needs to raise more than R$ 10 billion Rands (US$ 595 million) to rescue SAA, according to a rescue plan compiled by administrators and backed by the state and labor groups. However, Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has said that the funds should come from private sources, pledging only to help mobilize the required amount. SAA was placed under administrative protection in December 2020, before the Coronavirus crisis hit. Much of the funding is likely to come from private financial backers rather than Ethiopians, bringing more operational experience to the table, the people said.

Bidders by SAA

Up to four of the proposals are promising, DPE Director General Kgathatso Tlhakudi said in an interview. The DPE declined to comment. In addition to Ethiopian, there has been a compromise between the government and the Gulf giant Emirates about its codeshare agreement with SAA. Public Business Minister Pravin Gordhan said that Ethiopian Airlines Group was one of many stakeholders the government is in talks with. The Department of Public Enterprises said last month it had received up to 10 expressions of interest from «private sector funders, private equity investors and partners». Those refer to the main airline and its subsidiaries, namely the low-cost airline Mango, the Air Chefs catering division and the SAA Technical maintenance unit.

«Emirates can confirm that it has been in contact with South African Airways for general discussions related to the codeshare partnership between both airlines», said a spokesperson. Ethiopia’s Executive Director, Tewolde Gebre Mariam, said that the talks took place in the past but were suspended. He referred questions about the current situation to Abel Alemu, the airline’s Regional Manager for South Africa, who did not immediately comment. Tewolde Gebre Mariam said last year that the state airline would be interested in buying a stake in SAA if approached, although that company has since also battled its own severe revenue shortfall due to Covid-19 travel bans.

South Africa & SAA

SAA has lost money for nearly a decade, depending on government debt bailouts and guarantees. It was forced to suspend all commercial passenger flights in March when South Africa closed its borders to contain the pandemic. International travel continues to be banned from South Africa for leisure purposes, although domestic flights were recently given the green light as part of a broader economic reopening.

South African Airways’ need of R$ 10 billion Rands includes R$ 2.8 billion for the planes to fly again and 2.2 billion Rands for voluntary severance packages to reduce the workforce to 1,000 employees of approximately 4,800. Around R$ 3 billion Rand is needed for ticket refunds and R$ 1.7 billion Rand for aircraft leasing companies.

Ethiopiese belangstelling in Suid-Afrikaans

Airline change/cancellation policies

Main change and cancellation policies due to pandemic

Most countries have established globally defined policies to account for travel time in the midst of the pandemic or post-pandemic. For each user of air transport it is important to ensure that decisions are made based on the best information available. Unfortunately, finding the best information available is challenging because both airlines and governments change policies periodically.

The airlines have communication channels by telephone, airline social networks, Twitter, Facebook, Messenger or WhatsApp, among other applications where customers can answer questions and queries, as well as complaints of different types.

General regulations

Please note that if your flight departing, arriving or transiting the United States is canceled by the airline, according to the United States Department of Transportation, you will be eligible for a cash refund, period. This policy also includes flights that incur major changes, such as adding a connection or a time change of more than two hours. The European Union has a similar rule, commonly known as Rule 261, that establishes refunds for any flight arriving, traveling, or departing from Europe. On March 18, 2020, the European Union issued a clarification to Rule 261 reiterating that canceled flights are eligible for reimbursement to the original form of payment.

If your flight is not in the next three days, it is in your best interest to wait as you will have a better set of options available to you if your flight is actually canceled compared to you initiating the change. At this time, there is no problem with keeping your ticket until a week or less before your departure date, as your flight is very likely to have significant changes if it is not canceled completely. It is a good idea for the airline to offer you free exchanges or a voucher as it prevents you from requesting a cash refund.

EEUU pre-autoriza aerosolización

American Airlines to Protect Passengers Against Virus with SurfaceWise®2

AW | 2020 09 04 12:10 | AVIATION SAFETY / GOVERNMENT / AIRLINES

American to spray some planes with EPA-approved 'long-lasting' COVID-19 disinfectant - ABC News

USA pre-authorizes aerosolization

US government authorizes aerosolization method in aviation

The United States Government has authorized airlines to use the aerosolization method on aircraft surfaces to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Science has designed a new electrostatic spray that kills Covid-19 and protects all surfaces for seven days. It’s called SurfaceWise2 and it’s produced by Allied BioScience Inc., in the State of Texas.

American Airlines is the first airline that has initiated the program of use in its flights to cover all the interior areas of the airplanes and the airport facilities of the company. The airlines of the United States will be implementing this safe method, which will reduce possible infections in flight as much as possible.

Airlines have been using a variety of products and measures to clean airplanes, with the aim of convincing passengers that it is safe to fly, but the industry is still suffering from the collapse of falling demand, which began in April 2020 with the travel restrictions. In the aeronautical market, this new product ensures that it is the salvation for the industry, allowing the passenger to fly 100% safe, with additional preventive measures.

In response to COVID-19, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved on 08/24 a public health emergency exemption waiver for Allied BioScience filed by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The approval enables the use of SurfaceWise among Texas-based customers to provide continued effectiveness in protecting against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Allied BioScience SurfaceWise 2 coating is now the first and only surface coating approved by the EPA for use to continuously protect against COVID-19 with a single application. With EPA approval, the Texas Department of Agriculture received a waiver that allowed Texas to become the first state to pass a Section 18 emergency waiver for SurfaceWise 2. Allied BioScience is seeking this emergency exemption in all 50 states. “EPA approval opens the way to begin effectively protecting consumers against COVID-19 as the only proven solution to provide long-term non-toxic surface protection against the virus. We have been eager to bring our product to market and look forward to partnering with leading Texas-based companies to keep Texans safe in the fight against COVID-19”, said Michael Ruley, CEO of Allied BioScience.

SurfaceWise 2 is the latest surface coating from Allied BioScience with antiviral properties that continuously kill 99.9% of viruses on surfaces. The non-toxic coating is applied by electrostatic spray to provide permanent protection on treated surfaces.

Independent laboratory studies conducted prior to approval of the emergency exemption by noted infectious disease expert Dr. Charles Gerba found SurfaceWise 2 to be effective against Human Coronavirus 229E, the EPA-approved substitute for 90 days. This demonstrates the ability to successfully protect against COVID-19.

Methodology

As detailed by Maha El-Sayed, Scientific Director of Allied BioScience, the product is applied to any surface and kills all viruses and bacteria found there, including Sars-CoV-2. But the distinctive thing about this spray is that it maintains the neutralizing effect for a full week, without the need to reapply.

However, the use of the new spray also generated controversy, because the Trump Administration only gave an emergency approval. This discovery was authorized preventively.

EEUU extenderá 2da ayuda aerolíneas

AW | 2020 09 03 10:22 | AIRLINES MARKET / GOVERNMENT

Aproximación a Octubre negro

US will extend 2nd aid airlines

Aid extensions will prevent commercial aviation collapse

US President Donald Trump has indicated that he supports more government assistance to avoid layoffs at US airlines after his current aid package expires on September 30, 2020. «We will help the airlines, we must help the airlines», says the President as airlines warn of layoffs.

Congress reserved US$ 25 billion for US air carriers in the US$ 2.2 billion CARES Act in March 2020 on the condition that they would not cut jobs until September 30, 2020. With that deadline now imminent, the National Executive suggested on Tuesday 01/09 that more relief was coming from the effect of the pandemic. White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said last week that Donald Trump was weighing executive action if Congress fails to agree on a new economic stimulus package to counter the consequences of the pandemic. Helping the airline industry is a major concern for the Trump Administration given its strategic importance to national security and supply chains, as well as the large number of jobs at stake.

American passenger airlines are still collectively losing more than $ 5 billion a month, as 30% of planes remain on the ground. The demand for passenger travel has dropped by around 70% and, on average, planes fly with a load factor of 50%.

Approach to black October

American Airlines has said it will lay off 17,500 unionized employees, including flight attendants and pilots by October, unless Washington provides another $ 25 billion to help airlines cover payroll costs through March 2021. United Airlines, for his part plans massive layoffs around 2/10.

«When Washington first approved airline aid, it was designed to help airlines survive until air travel and ticket sales improved. While there was a rebound in late spring, the recovery stalled in July and August», USA Today reported. According to the senior administration official, there is significant bipartisan support in Congress for measures to help airlines and ensure they survive the prolonged collapse in demand.

Meanwhile, the airlines say survival depends on bailouts and reopened borders. Expanding flights as quickly as possible will allow airlines to increase their liquidity while reviving regional economies.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is frustrated that governments are not doing more to help the airline industry survive the Coronavirus pandemic. He advocates for the speedy reopening of borders and helps to help airlines maintain liquidity. IATA has predicted that air travel will not return to 2019 levels until 2024. International passenger demand fell 91.9% in July compared to the same month last year, a slight improvement over the contraction of the 96.8% registered by the industry in June. International capacity fell 85.2% year-on-year. Overall, global passenger demand was only one-fifth of last year’s level, IATA reported. Demand for air cargo was 13.5% lower in July on an annual basis. «Too many governments are fighting a global pandemic in isolation with the vision that closing borders is the only solution. It is time for governments to work together to implement measures that allow economic and social life to resume, while controlling the spread. of the virus», said Tuesday 01/09 the General Director Alexandre de Juniac in declarations to the journalists. The restrictions are wreaking havoc on travel demand, making it difficult for airlines to generate revenue.

Delta refinancing Gol debt

Gol Linhas Aéreas cancels debt of US$ 300 million

Delta Air Lines has offered to its former Brazilian partner Gol Linhas Aéreas to refinance a loan for US$ 300 million that expires on Monday 07/09 and that the US airline had guaranteed, according to an internal memorandum.

Gol Linhas Aéreas announced on Tuesday 06/09 that it had paid the debt of US$ 300 million, according to a presentation of securities, without providing details. The 2015 loan included a guarantee from Delta that helped Gol obtain a better interest rate. Delta Air Lines was hooked on the loan with the Brazilian airline, so it had to accept the support clauses as part of Gol Linhas Aéreas’ payment commitments. «As part of the refinancing, Delta worked with Gol to replace the existing loan guarantee with a smaller loan guaranteed with an additional guarantee», the Delta statement said in the memo. The deal reduces its own financial exposure and provides additional security, while giving Gol more time to address its obligations during the Coronavirus pandemic, which has decimated air travel around the world.

Delta Air Lines and Gol Linhas Aéreas ended their partnership early this year 2020 when the US airline launched a joint partnership with Chile-based Latam Airlines Group, a crucial agreement to rebuild its service network and restore growth in the region. when travel recovery begins.
