Aumento valores tickets Argentina

AW | 2021 12 02 15:08 | AIRLINES MARKET

Argentina ticket values increase

Cabojate flight prices increase due to high demand

AW-780055

The increase in demand for domestic flights has increased the value of airfare prices in Argentina. The ban on paying for trips abroad in installments has triggered an increase in rates for traveling within the country. In order to discourage the departure of dollars from the country and take care of reserves, this Thursday 12/02 the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) prohibited credit card issuers from financing airline tickets abroad in installments and other tourist services abroad. This measure has generated an increase in the values of domestic flights.

The increases in airfare prices have been increasing throughout the period of the pandemic. Between June and September 2021 they have reached an adjustment of 123% in cabotage tickets against the same period of the previous year. While internationals suffered an 87% increase, according to a study by the Viajala.com search engine. In the last twelve months, to October 2021, inflation accumulated 52.1%, meaning that domestic air prices have doubled in recent times. The reasons are linked to supply and demand. High demand and low supply, that is the explanation. The supply of domestic flights is low for a market that is recovering fast, although it does not reach 50% compared to 2019. Argentina has a slow recovery when compared to the region. The market dynamics of ticket values currently respond to the load factor where the values increase as the planes fill their empty seats. There is a range of supply that causes prices to increase rapidly.

The increase in airfare prices has been reflected in Despegar.com: the roundtrip ticket Buenos Aires-Bariloche by Aerolíneas Argentinas for February 2021 had a value of AR$ 32,000 Pesos seven days ago, compared to AR$ 36,000 which currently costs. The Buenos Aires-Mendoza route for February 2021, the cost was AR$ 15,000 pesos for JetSmart Airlines Argentina and AR$ 23,000 for Aerolíneas Argentinas. Currently there have been increases of AR$ 19,796 and AR$ 32,554 respectively.

«The price of domestic flights is again skyrocketing. There is a saturation of the supply. With the advance of Previaje, the refund of 50%, there are very few quotas to travel in high season through our country. People are now looking towards the end of the carnival, March, or Easter, to make it cheaper. But if you compare to 2019, providers take advantage, because they are subsidized, and they are selling more than twice the price”, says Emilia Vexler, another of the main players in the vacation market. In the same vein, they assure that in these first 72 hours of stocks, coinciding with the start of Black Friday, less than half of what was expected in international passages was sold. They also point out that there is a peak in sales among destinations that are historically more expensive in the country: «More Ushuaia, Calafate and Bariloche are sold, and less Iguazú», says Emilia Vexler.

SpaceX Wi-Fi satelital a bordo

AW | 2021 12 02 14:05 | AVIATION TECHNOLOGY / AEROSPACE / AIRLINES

AW-Starlink__Isologotype

SpaceX satellite Wi-Fi on board

SpaceX Chief Elon Musk recently promised that he would offer half gigabit Wi-Fi speed on airplanes allowing access to the Internet transmitted by Starlink satellites. SpaceX has begun testing its in-flight Wi-Fi service provided by the Starlink division for commercial airlines, with the goal of transmitting the Internet from its constellation of satellites to airplanes. In June 2021 SpaceX announced that it was in talks with several airlines to provide Starlink’s satellite Internet network for a faster in-flight Wi-Fi experience. However, the company did not offer any details on the project’s commercialization schedule.

SpaceX aims to offer low-latency internet connectivity with a half-gigabit over-the-air output. Right now, two of the biggest names in the industry are Viasat and Intelsat, which serve as providers of satellite broadband for onboard Wi-Fi. However, two of Starlink’s direct rivals based on the core infrastructure are UK’s OneWeb and Telesat.

Starlink’s Vice President of Commercial Sales, Jonathan Hofeller, has now revealed that the company is testing the first version of its internal antenna on airplanes, but has again avoided providing a concrete schedule for the commercial launch. Speaking at the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX)/ IFSA EXPO Thought Leadership conference, Jonathan Hofeller mentioned that the company wants to offer its satellite internet service to airlines in the shortest time. An APEX blog post quotes Jonathan Hofeller as saying that «Starlink is going one by one to each country and their ongoing disaster relief work is accelerating their entry into some markets».

Compared to established players in the In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) market, Starlink has a key advantage with its approach to satellite internet. Existing stakeholders depend on the Internet carried by satellites floating in geostationary orbit. Starlink, on the other hand, will offer Internet connectivity from its constellation of satellites in lower Earth orbit. Hofeller had previously claimed that the Starlink receiving antennas installed on airplanes would be a derivative of the existing ground-based receivers that recently began to appear at Tesla charging stations as well. One of the biggest concerns with aircraft installation is the durability aspect of satellite Internet receivers. Interestingly, an FCC app that was unearthed earlier this year shed some light on mobile receivers that they will be much more durable when it comes to operating in greater extremes of heat and cold. Another advantage that Starlink boasts over its rivals is in the numbers game. Hofeller mentioned at the APEX conference that Starlink already commands a group of LEO satellites whose number is ten times that of today’s geostationary satellites. While a definitive date for the market discovery is unknown, the Starlink executive revealed that the company is operating a fleet of 1,800 satellites spread across 20 countries to date. However, Starlink’s ambitions could be stalled due to problems with the Starship rocket engines, something so dire that CEO Elon Musk feared it would push SpaceX to the brink of bankruptcy.

Allegiant y Viva Aerobus buscan alianza

AW | 2021 12 02 13:53 | AIRLINES ALLIANCE

Allegiant-Viva Aerobus seek alliance

They submit an application to the agencies for approval

AW-Allegiant Airlines_A320202CEO

The low-cost airlines Allegiant Air of the United States and Viva Aerobus of Mexico said on Wednesday 01/12 that they will request immunity from antitrust laws in the United States and Mexico to form an alliance that will include working together to set flight schedules and routes in both markets. Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air reported that it will invest US$ 50 million in the Mexican company as part of the agreement, which it said is the first of its kind between two ultra-low-cost airlines. The companies said they expect to begin flights under the alliance in the first quarter of 2023, pending approvals from the United States Department of Transportation and Mexico’s Federal Economic Competition Commission.

Maurice Gallagher, CEO of Allegiant Travel Co., will join the Board of Directors of Viva Aerobus, which is based in Monterrey, Mexico. The General Director of Viva Aerobus, Juan Carlos Zuazua, said that the market between the United States and Mexico has become the largest international market and has performed better than others during the Coronavirus pandemic. The agreement should lead to cheaper air tickets for travel across the border. Allegiant Air is looking to add new destinations in Mexico, including Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

DOJ, pursue approval

Similar alliances have become common among large airlines flying between the United States and Europe and Asia. The airlines share the revenue under those pacts, but Allegiant Air and Viva Aerobus did not provide financial details of their agreement. Under previous governments, the United States has granted antitrust exemptions to various airline alliances. However, in September 2021 the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit to block a cooperative agreement between American Airlines and JetBlue Airways, saying it would reduce competition and lead to higher prices.

Allegiant Air and Viva Aerobus focus their offers on tourist destinations. As ultra-low-cost airlines, they usually offer cheaper airfare than traditional airlines, but charge fees for many services that other airlines offer for free, such as services and luggage on board.

Aeropuerto Santa Rosa nuevo ILS

AW | 2021 12 02 06:25 | AIRPORTS

Santa Rosa Airport incorporates new ILS

New ILS at Santa Rosa Airport, Argentina

The new Instrument Landing System (ILS) installed at the Santa Rosa Airport/SAZR in the Province of La Pampa, Argentina, will increase operational safety and service availability. Within the framework of the Transportation Modernization Plan promoted by the National Ministry of Transportation, Empresa Argentina de Navegación Aérea S.E. (EANA) installed and commissioned a new Instrument Landing System (ILS) on Runway 19 of the Santa Rosa Airport. The technological change increases the predictability of operations thanks to the greater availability and continuity of service provided by the new equipment.

An ILS system consists of a set of transmitters that emit signals from the ground that guide the aircraft as they descend towards the runway. Its precision and safety make it essential for the safety of operations, especially when visibility is reduced. The new Santa Rosa ILS also incorporates a DME signal transmitter that allows flight crews to know exactly their distance to the airport at all times. For the implementation of the new ILS, which has technology superior to that which previously provided service, a modern communication system was installed between the equipment and the control tower. This link allows air traffic control and technical service personnel to remotely monitor the operation of the equipment at all times.

Once the installation of all the elements of the new ILS had been completed and its initial operation had been verified, aircraft equipped with special measurement equipment made a series of approaches to the runway, verifying the stability, precision and quality of the signals with international parameters. The data collected in flight allowed making the necessary adjustments to ensure the reliability of the system, an essential step to officially leave it in service. In addition to the new equipment in Santa Rosa, this technological innovation carried out by the Argentine Air Navigation Company, included during this year the comprehensive renovation of the ILS systems at the Jorge Newbery Airport and the Córdoba, Posadas, Resistencia and Corrientes airports. In the coming months, the replacement of these radio aids will continue at the Ushuaia, Bariloche and Esquel airports, which means a technological advance with which predictability is achieved in the operation, ensuring availability and reliability rates higher than the current ones. to guarantee the continuity of the service.
