Surinam busca incorporar aeronaves

AW | 2021 07 14 13:10 | AIRLINES

Surinam Airways busca arrendamiento aeronaves

Surinam-Airways

Suriname seeks to incorporate aircraft

Suriname Airways seeks aircraft leasing

Surinam Airways (SLM) expects to have its own aircraft again at the end of July 2021, despite the continuing liquidity problems faced by the Surinamese airline. Recently, the last Boeing 737s were retired by the leasing company after default, decimating the fleet.

The Surinamese airline continues to fly through turbulent times due to the casualties of aircraft in its fleet. The only Boeing 777-200ER, which was used only a few times on the route between Paramaribo and Amsterdam/Schiphol, was permanently returned to the owner. The only Boeing 737-700 aircraft was held in the United States due to non-payment of rents, as a result, the airline has been idle with no aircraft to fly. Suriname Airways was forced to fill the gap in regional routes in America, leasing a Boeing MD-80 from World Atlantic Airlines, but has failed to maintain routes with this aircraft.

Currently, an Air Belgium Airbus A340-300 is currently being used for the route to Paramaribo-Amsterdam/Schiphol. Meanwhile, the airline continues to work to normalize the situation of its service network.

Argentina anti-restrictions project

Project seeks to leave restrictions without effects

A bill has been presented in Argentina that seeks to nullify the restrictions for international flights. Three Legislators of Together for Change (JXC) called for measures to repatriate those who wish to return and considered that the norm that sets a daily quota of passengers that can enter the country is unconstitutional. National Deputies Luis Petri, Jimena Latorre and Alfredo Cornejo (JXC) presented a bill that requests the Executive Power to nullify Administrative Decision No. 683/2021, which slightly increased the entry quota for Argentine passengers from abroad, raising from 4,200 to 5,200 places for entry this week, along with a progressive increase scheme that will reach 7,000 people per week for the first week of August 2021.

According to the Legislators, the norm and its predecessors are unconstitutional for violating the provisions of Article 14 of the National Constitution, which establishes the right of all Argentine inhabitants to enter, stay, transit and leave the national territory. In the same way, they consider that it goes against Article 22 of the American Convention on Human Rights, which also provides for the rights of permanence, departure and territorial movement. “It is a ban in fact. The airlines said that according to the provisions it can take up to 5 months to repatriate all the stranded Argentines. The restriction to the entry of people reflects the inability of the national government to control the population that returns from abroad. Nowhere in the Decision do they explain the reasons why the quota of 2,000 passengers per day was lowered, they do not give scientific, technical or epidemiological reasons. We are facing an authoritarian government that has used the pandemic as a springboard to violate the Constitution; they quarantined all Argentines but they also quarantined the National Constitution. The entry trap is the express recognition of the uselessness of a government to control, test and vaccinate”, expressed Luis Petri.

For his part, Alfredo Cornejo said that “the laziness with which they handle this issue is inadmissible, which causes infinite social and economic problems for our compatriots stranded abroad for a mere whim that has no basis and is based only on ineptitude. improvised management of the pandemic”.

«From our point of view, the last Administrative Decision as well as the previous one, show that they did not learn to manage efficiently, they did not comply with their own vaccination schedule, they cannot control, they only sponsor the inefficiency of the governor of the province of Buenos Aires», said the Deputy Latorre.

Four measures

Deputy Luis Petri stressed that the objective of the project is to nullify Administrative Decision No. 683/2021, but that if this is not achieved, they require the implementation of four measures. As a first point, they ask for the preparation of a flight schedule that can give predictability to those stranded abroad. This requirement is related to the demands of the airline representatives, who likewise demand greater operational predictability from the Government. Second, they propose the implementation of a traveler assistance program that takes into account the situations of Argentines who are abroad and do not know when they will be able to return. They highlighted here, not understanding why the Government did not implement aid of this type as it had done in 2020. Thirdly, they demand the existence of special repatriation flights, which considers the cases of people at risk and/or with extraordinary situations that they need to return to Argentina urgently. Fourthly, they ask that the quota that has not been used for a day, can be accumulated and the remainder used in future arrivals, in order to repatriate as many Argentines as possible.

Petitorio para Aeropuerto El Palomar

AW | 2021 07 14 11:22 | AIRPORTS

Request for El Palomar Airport

Friends of the Airport Group requests reopening

AW-Flybondi_JetSmart

In March 2020 with the onset of the pandemic and the cancellation of flights, El Palomar Airport ceased operations, to after nine months later, it would officially close commercial air operations for airlines. The low cost airlines that operated in the air station temporarily migrated their bases to the Ezeiza International Airport and finally settled in the Jorge Newbery Airport in the City of Buenos Aires, after the reopening due to the reforms that were carried out.

Senator Mariano Recalde had argued at that time that «maintaining the commercial operation of the El Palomar International Airport only by one or two Flybondi aircraft, whose size requires an investment in the runway of AR$ 4 billion pesos, can only be justify on the whim of Mauricio Macri to sustain a policy whose results are in sight”.

Currently, El Palomar Airport remains open as a base of operations for the Air Force or the Presidency, so air traffic continues to be present in the area.

For their part, a group of organized residents approached the Deliberative Council of the City of Morón with more than 76,000 signatures that they gathered throughout the country to ask for the reopening of the low cost air terminal. The initiative responds to a group called Friends of the Airport, which requests that the airport operate without time restrictions or arbitrary limitations. The group added support in different cities such as Salta and Puerto Iguazú and from politicians such as the mayor of Tres de Febrero, Diego Valenzuela, and former communal chief of Morón, Ramiro Tagliaferro.

EEUU confirma donación a Argentina

AW | 2021 07 14 11:07 | GOVERNMENT

Aerolíneas Argentinas prepara vuelos a Memphis

USA confirms donation to Argentina

Aerolíneas Argentinas prepares flights to Memphis

The United States signed with Argentina the donation of millions of vaccines. The official announcement will be made by the United States Department of State in the next few hours. Initially, 2.5 million doses were expected to be shipped, but now more than 3 million are expected. The entire shipment will be Modern vaccine. The Ministry of Health is considering using it to start the vaccination of young people between 11 and 17 years old, once the authorization of the Anmat is in place.

The United States and Argentina signed the vaccine donation agreement on Tuesday morning, which, according to rumors circulating in Washington, is one of the largest transfers of doses made so far by the northern country. From the outset there was talk of 2,500,000 doses, after 3 million and now the rumor is that there could be even more. The official announcement will be made by the State Department this Wednesday 07/14 or Thursday 07/15. At the same time, Aerolíneas Argentinas prepares the departure of two flights to the North American city of Memphis: the doses will come in those planes. The entire shipment will be of the Moderna vaccine and it is possible that the Ministry of Health decides to use the doses to start with the vaccination of young people between 11 and 17 years old, although authorization from the Anmat is required.

Donation certificate

After a long negotiation carried out by the Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti, the Presidential Advisor Cecilia Nicolini, the Legal and Technical Secretary, Vilma Ibarra, and the Argentine Ambassador in Washington, Jorge Argüello, an arduous agreement was reached in which the Government participated by Joe Biden and Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson laboratories. The Zoom meetings lasted for hours and all the parts appeared on the screens. The dialogues first resulted in the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) signed by Alberto Fernández on Friday, July 2, 2021, with the accent on guarantees before trials, then in the contract with Moderna that was signed on Sunday, July 11. and now in the donation certificate.

So far, the terms of the donation are not known, but Washington will make an official announcement in the next few hours. It is quite possible that there is also an advertisement at the same time in the Casa Rosada. One of the central data of the agreement is, obviously, the number of doses. In Washington it is said that it will be a figure higher than all the donations made so far, but the truth will be known at the time of the announcement. So far Mexico has received 1,350,000 doses from Johnson & Johnson; to Colombia were 2,500,000 doses of the same vaccine, while the donation announced for Bolivia and Paraguay was one million doses to each country. The version is that the United States will continue to provide vaccines because production has been escalating and it gives the impression that vaccination has reached a ceiling in the northern country.

The Executive Branch will send two Aerolíneas Argentinas planes to the city of Memphis, where they are stored. The flights do not yet have an official schedule, but they are supposed to take place before or during next weekend. The same procedure of searching for vaccines at the Memphis International Airport was used for the other donations. All the doses in the Argentine case will be from Moderna, the only laboratory with which Argentina has a signed contract. It happens that this was a precondition for donation, because the contract establishes the guarantees for the laboratories against possible lawsuits for deaths or damage to health. As is known, Argentina established through the DNU a guarantee fund that will serve as support for any compensation claim.

According to what they say in Washington, the contracts with Johnson & Johnson, Janssen and Pfizer will be signed in the next ten days. From that moment there will be the possibility of agreeing to purchases, although it is difficult to provide items before 2022, and also to receive new donations. It is presumed that the United States will actually release more vaccines, although perhaps it will do so only through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO). Also in that case doses will correspond to Argentina.

Akasa próximo operador indio

AW | 2021 07 14 10:43 | AIRLINES

Akasa next Indian operator

India plans new low cost airline

India could be looking for a new low-cost airline to enter the market next year 2022. The startup called Akasa Airlines is backed by legendary investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and would be led by former CEO Vinay Dube of Jet Airways. The next airline has applied for its initial permits to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and expects its air operator AOC to be approved soon.

India could see its new low-cost airline take to the skies in mid-2022 dubbed Akasa, which translates to «the sky», and is currently applying for its Certificate of No Objection (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This is the first of many steps to officially launch the airline and receive the Air Operator Certificate (AOC). However, this particular new airline has caught the public’s attention thanks to the endorsement of Rakesh Jhunjhuwala. The legendary investor is often described as the Warren Buffett of India and is known for his bullish outlook on the Indian markets. His investment would undoubtedly bring star power to the emerging airline and provide much-needed funding at this difficult time. Rakesh Jhunjhuwala has previously invested in budget airlines SpiceJet and Jet Airways before their collapse in 2019.

Akasa, first news

The businessman plans to establish an investment of up to US$ 35 million/₹ 260.7 million Crores in the low-cost airline for a 40% stake. Akasa has also lined up another foreign investor to raise funds, according to sources. These funds will give the airline the seed money it needs to comply with regulatory frameworks and hire a management team to get the new company up and running.

Akasa Airlines will be led by former Jet Airways and GoAir CEO Vinay Dube, along with other seasoned aviation leaders. The leadership of familiar faces will help the airline during its early stages and as flights take off around 2022. The start-up of the operations of the new airline will depend on how quickly it collects funds and receives its AOC from the Indian Government.

KLM fortalece red sudamericana

AW | 2021 07 14 10:13 | AIRLINES ROUTES

Aerolínea holandesa restablece posición mercado en América

KLM 560x240

KLM strengthens South American network

Dutch airline restores market position in America

KLM_772

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that the network of routes to the Caribbean and South America is back in the same strength as before the pandemic crisis. This summer, as in 2019, the airline plans to fly to seventeen destinations, incorporating other destinations such as Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) and Bridgetown (Barbados).

KLM continues to expand and reestablish its air route network to many countries in the Caribbean and South America; although there are still numerous travel restrictions in place in some destinations. Popular vacation destinations to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao remain in effect during peak season with 24 weekly flights departing to all three Leeward Islands. Last year there were seventeen weekly frequencies. This boreal summer, San José (Costa Rica) and Liberia (Costa Rica) were included in the flight program for the first time. Previously, these destinations were only offered in winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to the Coronavirus situation, KLM still does not fly to Havana (Cuba) and Fortaleza (Brazil).

KLM Airlines CEO Pieter Elbers says 40 percent of passengers continue to fly to West Indies destinations, good news that the Caribbean and South American network has returned to its former strength. At the same time, he points out that KLM still flies only 60 percent of its capacity and 40 percent of passengers on almost the entire global network. «We do this in a safe and responsible manner, which has been awarded APEX Diamond status for health security. The next steps are to expand capacity and, of course, as soon as the situation allows, welcome more customers to board», said Peter Elbers.

KLM versterkt Zuid-Amerikaans netwerk

Luchtvaartmaatschappij herstelt marktpositie in Amerika

AW-KLM Royal-Dutch Airlines_Nieuw Isologotype

Elbers.

Boeing revela nuevo problema 787

AW | 2021 07 13 16:50 | INDUSTRY / AVITION SAFETY

787 Dreamliner sufre nuevos problemas de diseño

Boeing_Isologotype

Boeing reveals new 787 problem

787 Dreamliner suffers from new design issues

Dreamliner_Isologotype

The Boeing Company revealed on Tuesday 07/13 a new problem with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft, which has been plagued with problems since August 2020. The company said that some of the aircraft’s fuselages were not joined to comply with the precise standards and there are questions about the verification process to make sure they meet the standards.

AW-Boeing787_004

The locations where parts of the plane are attached must meet precise standards down to a small fraction of an inch. There are questions about the inspection process used to check that work. The company said it has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the problem and identified a way to fix the 787s that have not yet been delivered to customers. Boeing said 787s already in service do not need to be immobilized on the ground. The FAA agreed, saying it is aware of a manufacturing quality issue, and that it does not pose an immediate threat to flight safety. «Based on the data, the FAA will determine whether similar modifications should be made to the 787s already in commercial service», the FAA said in a statement. Boeing will fix the planes not to deliver them and will inspect them prior to delivery. The company said the process would take a few weeks.

«We will continue to take the time necessary to ensure that Boeing aircraft are of the highest quality prior to delivery», the company said in a statement. The company has about 100 undelivered Dreamliners. In April 2021 it said it expected to deliver most of those planes during the current year. However, Boeing said Tuesday 07/13 that it will not meet that goal due to problems with the 787.

The company temporarily halted deliveries of the 787 in August 2020 and recommended that a handful of aircraft be temporarily immobilized for inspections. Since then, those planes have returned to service. Boeing also resumed deliveries of the planes in March 2021.

News of new problems overshadowed very strong orders and delivery figures for the past month. The embattled aircraft manufacturer reported Tuesday that June 2021 was its best month for new orders since 2018, thanks to an order for 200 737 MAX aircraft placed by United Airlines during the month and reported the best month for deliveries since March 2019, after the twenty-month grounding of that plane and the interruption of deliveries after serious design error problems.

Boeing said it delivered 45 planes in June 2021. That’s important to the company’s finances, because it gets most of the cash from the sale of a plane at the time of delivery. It delivered 33 Boeing 737 MAXs, 2 Boeing P8I Poseidons and 10 wide-body jets, but has only placed one order for Boeing 787s to Turkish Airlines. Most of the rest of the widebodies were cargo aircraft or military aircraft, an indication of the weakness in the wide-body portion of the commercial aviation market.

The large order for the 737 MAX from United Airlines was an important vote of confidence for the aircraft, and the expected recovery in demand for air travel. But those orders were the only passenger jet orders Boeing booked in June 2021. The other 19 planes ordered were freighters ordered by Federal Express (FedEx).

Ongoing problems

But late deliveries and slower-than-expected production for the 787 line announced on Tuesday 07/13 will be costly for the company, which posted nearly US$ 20 billion in major operating losses in the past eight quarters. Finally, Boeing is expected to report a profit in the second quarter just ended. While it can still return to profitability, recent news makes clear the quality issues that have haunted it since grounding the 737 MAX continue.

The Dreamliner is a leading aircraft in the wide-body part of the aircraft market, in which Boeing dominates its rival Airbus. Made from composite material that weighs less than aluminum, the jet is extremely fuel efficient. While it was briefly grounded in 2013 after some fires in its lithium battery, the plane has had few known problems since. The aircraft is primarily used on longer international routes, which have been severely curtailed by the pandemic. Airline executives and Boeing have said international air travel is expected to be the last part of the air travel industry to fully recover.
