Avelo_Airlines_Isologotype

Base en New Haven

Avelo expands services to Las Vegas

Avelo Airlines will incorporate Santa Rosa-Las Vegas route

Avelo Airlines has announced its next route that it will incorporate with a new destination to Las Vegas. Starting September 16, 2021, the low cost airline will fly four weekly flights (4Frq/S) from Santa Rosa/STS, in the State of California, to Las Vegas/LAS. «Our expanded service at STS demonstrates Avelo’s commitment to providing the Bay Area with more choice and affordability in air travel. This new route makes it easier than ever for our customers to visit the entertainment capital of the world from the airport. most convenient and relaxing in the region», Avelo President and CEO Andrew Levy said of the route in a statement.

Avelo Airlines_737 Livery

On Thursday 07/15, Avelo Airlines announced the latest addition to its route network, a flight from Santa Rosa-Sonoma County, California, to Las Vegas, amid recent cuts to the airline’s flight schedule. The Santa Rosa to Las Vegas flight will operate four times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, starting September 16, 2021. On the Santa Rosa to Las Vegas leg, the plane departs at 10:05 a.m. and arrives at 11:45 a.m. Meanwhile, on its leg from Las Vegas to Santa Rosa, the plane leaves at 12:25 p.m. and arrives at 02:05 p.m.

Avelo Airlines will employ its unified Boeing 737-800 fleet of 189 economy seats for the route, with sixty seats offering varying amounts of additional legroom. Currently, the airline’s fleet includes three Boeing 737-800s.

While Avelo is certainly hopeful that it will fare better than Sun Country Airlines, Allegiant Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, it will face some strong headwinds. According to Department of Transportation (DOT) data from 2017 to 2019, there were between 70 and 140 weekly passengers on average flying between STS and LAS. Avelo’s four weekly flights will offer a total of more than 750 seats each week, so unless the demand pattern has changed, it will be interesting to see how the new flight performs.

Structuring routes

Avelo Airlines has confirmed route cuts in early July 2021, but the airline will adjust its service network to expand more destinations. Avelo Airlines adjusted its programming in many of its initial markets, reducing frequencies to points such as Ogden, Utah and Medford, Oregon. However, the low-cost carrier hinted at several new West Coast destinations arriving in the near future, one of which is Las Vegas.

To support the expansion, Avelo Airlines is not taking in new aircraft, but is retiring two launch destinations Grand Junction/GJT, Colorado and Bozeman/BZN, Montana, which will help free up airtime to support the new route to Las Vegas. The airline would park the plane in Santa Rosa during the six-hour transit time to continue to Las Vegas.

Base in New Haven

In early May 2021, the new airline revealed plans to open its first US East Coast base in New Haven, Connecticut. Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport / HVN is currently undergoing enhancements to facilitate commercial service with a Boeing 737. That work is still underway, prompting Avelo to delay its launch in New Haven until early November 2021.

American cancela licencias Asistentes

American Airlines cancela licencias voluntarias asistentes de vuelo

American Airlines_Isologotype

American cancels Assistants licenses

American Airlines cancels voluntary Flight Attendant licenses

American Airlines has told the remaining 3,300 Flight Attendants on voluntary leave to return in November or December 2021 and that it will begin recruiting new Cabin Crew members. It’s the latest sign that the airline is planning sustained travel demand beyond this summer’s surge. «Increased customer demand and new routes beginning later this year mean we need more flight attendants to operate the airline», said Brady Byrnes, Vice President of Flight Service for American.

The airline plans to hire 800 flight attendants by March 2022. American offered extended voluntary licenses of up to two years during the pandemic to help reduce costs as demand for travel was devastated by the virus. He also encouraged staff to accept early retirement packages. Other companies urged employees to take similar packages.

Getting employees who have been on leave or who have not been actively working can be challenging and time consuming. Two-thirds of licensed US Flight Attendants will have to be retrained before they can fly. «The return of up to 3,300 flight attendants by December is not an easy task for our teams working to support you behind the scenes,» wrote Brady Byrnes.

American Airlines’ second quarter numbers will be better than expected. But bookings, led by domestic leisure travel, surged in the late spring and early summer, and now carriers are scrambling to increase staff. American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and other airlines have been busy training hundreds of pilots who have been called back to work, a process that can take more than a month in some cases. Those airlines, as well as United Airlines and Spirit Airlines, have announced plans to hire additional pilots to keep up with what executives expect to be strong demand next year 2022.

Cardinal Airlines busca certificación

AW | 2021 07 16 19:35 | AIRLINES / AVIATION ORGANISMS

Cardinal Airlines seeks certification

Nigerian startup to launch ops in 3Q2021

Nigerian airline Cardinal Airlines Limited is continuing the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with plans to start domestic operations from Abuja by the end of the third quarter of 2021. The company has applied the use of Embraer aircraft and Avions de Transport Régional Aircraft (ATR) turboprops due to their profitability on national and regional routes. His application for an Air Transport License (ATL) is in an advanced stage, according to reports. The company was registered in Abuja on July 15, 2019.

Cardinal Airlines founder and Chairman Alhaji Masud Bashir, who has a background in real estate, reportedly launched the company to offer more affordable airfare to Nigerians. The airline will have its operational base in Abuja, but will operate in all airports in the country, he revealed, adding that it plans to take off with four planes and then increase the fleet as operations progress.

Airlines plurality

Despite the economic setbacks related to the pandemic, Nigeria is seeing a boom in new entrants. Green Africa Airways expected to start in June 2021, but this was delayed to July 2021 as its AOC was not available before then due to unforeseen circumstances, the company announced on social media. Since then they have opened bookings for flights as of August 1, 2021. This follows Ibom Air which started operating in 2019, followed by United Nigeria, in February 2021. Chanchangi Airlines is trying to make a comeback after having obtained an AOC in April 2021. Also waiting in the wings is NG Eagle Airlines which is in the final stages of certifying its AOC, the NCAA has confirmed, as well as Binani Air, Obike Air and now Cardinal Airlines.

Former Aero Contractors CEO Ado Sanusi said the emergence of new airlines was being made possible by the Federal Government creating a more conducive environment by introducing policies to stimulate new investment in the aviation industry, such as the elimination of import duties and the value added tax on imported aircraft and spare parts. The industry has also been anticipating better access to foreign exchange. More airlines do not necessarily mean dilution of the existing market, he said, as many will develop secondary routes.

Argentina contra restricciones

AW | 2021 07 16 07:33 | AIRLINES MARKET / AVIATION ORGANISMS / GOVERMENT

Airlines in Argentina against restrictions

Strong statement from JURCA to the Argentine Government

The Chamber of Air Lines of Argentina JURCA pointed out that with the regulations that have been in force since Winters 09/07, which establishes the limits of flight quotas, a lower number of passengers per plane is also authorized, putting the continuity of flights at risk, noted the aerial grouping. In this way, JURCA emphatically demanded that the Government evaluate and reconsider the way in which the restrictions on flights from abroad were renewed, within the framework of health measures against the pandemic, which according to the association that brings together international airlines With the modality in force since 07/09, flights are now authorized with a maximum number of passengers per plane that does not take into account «the economic loss involved in operating the few authorized flights. To date, they have already been withdrawn from our country four airlines and today ten those that have suspended their operations due to border closures. Due to the lack of predictability and planning, other associates are analyzing that, if current operating conditions are maintained, they should define the suspension of their activity in our country», says the statement, signed by the Executive Director of Jurca, Felipe Baravalle.

Decimated market

AW-70000190

According to the JURCA camera listing, Qatar Airways, Air New Zealand and Norwegian International Airlines have stopped flying to the Argentine market; While others have suspended their operations due to restrictions due to the pandemic: British Airways, Cubana de Aviación, Emirates Airline, Ethiopian Airlines, Alitalia, Air Canada, Sky Airline, Gol Linhas Aéreas, Azul Linhas Aéreas and Level Airlines. In the domestic local market, airlines such as Austral Líneas Aéreas, absorbed by union pressure from Aerolíneas Argentinas, Latam Airlines Argentina, historically persecuted by the Kirchnerist group La Cámpora, and others seriously affected by the economic situation have disappeared from the cabotage map pandemic such as Flyest Líneas Aéreas, LASA Líneas Aéreas. Currently, Aerolíneas Argentinas holds 75-80% of the cabotage market, while companies such as Andes Líneas Aéreas, whose future remains anonymous, barely survive on paper. The low cost JetSmart Airlines Argentina and Flybondi Líneas Aéreas continue to fly thanks to the economic waistline provided by their parent companies, but facing financial deficits that seek to reverse in an aeronautical environment dominated by political laziness and lack of determination to stimulate commercial aviation.

On June 26, 20221, the number of passengers that can reach Ezeiza was reduced from the limit that had been in force since April 2021 was less than 2,000 passengers per day to a maximum limit of 600. In this context, the chamber that groups the lines foreigners in the country requested a meeting with the Chief of Cabinet, Santiago Cafiero. So did the International Airline Association (IATA), whose directors were finally received, via zoom, by the head of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), Paola Tamburelli. After that meeting, the Government made sure that the flight trap would be made more flexible. But after the publication of Administrative Decision 683/2021, published on Friday of last week, the ANAC began to issue more flight authorizations, but with fewer passengers per plane, according to JURCA: «By virtue of the flight approvals received from ANAC by our associates, we found to our surprise that, despite the increase in the number of flights, in many cases the occupancy capacity of the aircraft has been further reduced. That is not to measure nor quantify the economic loss involved in operating the few authorized flights, to the point of jeopardizing their continuity and the current connectivity of our country with the rest of the world. Furthermore, the aeronautical industry has not participated in the planning, distribution and assignment of the new frequencies, carrying out an implementation without prior coordination or joint work of the local authorities and the aviation organizations (ANAC) with the airlines in Argentina». In this way, flights are approved but the number of passengers who can board them is limited to an even smaller number than with the previous rule.

JURCA, stated that the ANAC still does not authorize new flights beyond the immediate dates: «Argentine citizens and residents unable to return to their country cannot be informed of a certain date of return, since only flights have been authorized and capacities until July 31, the industry not knowing what will be authorized or denied after that date». In addition, he pointed out that even with the new extensions of the quota, which increases progressively until the beginning of August, it is insufficient to bring all Argentines stranded abroad: «The norm published on July 9 now mentions a weekly passenger quota and it carries the same to 742 daily for the first week of application, and to 900 and 1000 passengers in the subsequent weeks. It is clear that these amounts are still insufficient to solve the problem caused».

According to the IATA, only until last week there were 14,000 Argentines stranded abroad, due to the new restrictions applied since the end of June 2021. That figure could now climb to around 20,000 passengers.

Restrictions that apply locally are unique. «The airline industry requires a more predictable operating framework, as is the case even in this time of pandemic in the more than 1,500 destinations that are flown around the world today. We reiterate once again the urgent need to hold a meeting with the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers or whoever he designates to analyze, in the first place, the imperative need to efficiently schedule flights that allow the return of Argentines who are abroad, «said the JURCA body. He also listed a series of additional claims, both in operational and economic matters, among them, «the elimination of restrictive quotas, the expansion of the testing capacity / hour in the authorized airports, temporary reduction of direct costs to the air operation, the qualification of international airports in the interior as safe health corridors, and authorization of international flights for periods of at least three months ahead».

Delta retorna a la rentabilidad

AW | 2021 07 16 06:41 | AIRLINES

Delta Air Lines vuelve a ser rentable

Delta Air Lines_Isologotype_Banner

Delta returns to profitability

Delta Air Lines becomes profitable again

Airlines are chasing a return to profitability for the first time since the pandemic hit finances around the world. Delta Air Lines was the first American airline to report second quarter earnings, excluding special items, with a superhabit of US$ 1.02 per share in the quarter. The results easily beat consensus estimates with a negative variation of US$ 1.33 per share. Although Delta Air Lines shares may not be reacting more favorably, because their results were not surprising. The airline predicted months ago that the second quarter would be a turning point for profitability, anticipating a robust summer travel season. Additionally, Delta is positioned as a full-service premium airline targeting international markets where bookings remain depressed, especially on its main Atlantic and Pacific routes.

Nonetheless, Delta’s results imply that travel momentum continues to grow. The company reported US$ 7.1 billion in total revenue, compared to US$ 4.1 billion in the March 2021 quarter. Consensus estimates had called for US$ 6.2 billion in revenue. Passenger revenue per seat mile increased, and the airline’s load factor, or the percentage of seats sold, increased to 69% from 45% in the March quarter, a sign that Delta is returning to flights almost complete.

The prospects for Delta were encouraging. It said its booking curve had normalized, indicating that travelers are booking flights earlier. Daily net cash sales in June were 70% of 2019 levels, indicating that Delta is outpacing the carry-over of refunded tickets due to cancellations in the pandemic. «Domestic leisure travel has fully recovered to 2019 levels and there are encouraging signs of improvement in business and international travel», Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement.

The airline’s report explains that there were trouble spots about Atlantic and Pacific travel, which are largely undeveloped. Delta Air Lines reported only US$ 288 million in trips to the Atlantic and US$ 88 million in its Pacific Area segment, both more than 85% less than 2019 levels. Latin America showed a little more strength, with US$ 485 million dollars, which represented 36% less.

For the September 2021 quarter, Delta predicted that capacity would be reduced between 28% and 30% compared to the September 2019 quarter, with revenues to be reduced between 30% and 35%. Those would be sequential improvements over the June 2021 quarter, when capacity was down 39% and passenger revenue dropped 53%, compared to 2019 levels.

Analysts generally praised the report released by the Atlanta-based company. Delta’s results look very encouraging. Delta’s guidance for the third quarter was slightly better than consensus forecasts, Raymond James’s Savanthi Syth noted. Cowen’s Helane Becker called out some positives: «Yield trends are likely still positive as corporate demand is recovering faster than anticipated», she wrote, referring to earnings returns, a measure of profitability. airline operations. Bernstein’s David Vernon reiterated a better performance rating and a US$ 64 target on Delta: «The guidance for the later half of revenue and profitability is constructive as the underlying trends in demand remain intact. businesses are on the mend and cost performance, if cut, points in the right direction».

Despite the positives, airlines are facing new headwinds: the spread of new variants of Coronavirus that is renewing lockdowns and travel restrictions in Europe and other regions, along with an increase in fuel prices for aircraft that is driving up operating costs and squeezing economic margins.

Catamarca incorpora 4Frq/S

AW | 2021 07 15 07:10 | AIRLINES ROUTES

Aerolíneas Argentinas adiciona cuatro frecuencias semanales

AW-MAP_Catamarca_202107150703

Aerolíneas_Isotype

The Aerolíneas Argentinas company has announced the incorporation of a fourth weekly frequency on the Buenos Aires-Catamarca route as of August 2021. The strong historical claim comes at a strategic moment for the reactivation of tourism in the country.

The frequency between Buenos Aires and San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca will increase from next August 2021 with departures from Jorge Newbery Airport to Catamarca/Coronel Felipe Varela Airport. The new frequency that Aerolineas Argentinas has defined, as of August 4, 2021, the province will have four weekly flights, all with departures from the Aeroparque air station.

The news comes after the national Deputies for Catamarca Lucía Corpacci and Silvana Ginocchio, met with the authorities of Aerolíneas Argentinas to manage the increase in the frequency of flights between Buenos Aires and Catamarca. In the audience with the CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Pablo Ceriani and Fabián Lombardi, Director of Planeamianro de Redes, requested what is a historic claim from provinces such as Catamarca. Deputy Lucía Corpacci, being governor, had taken steps on several occasions to improve the number of flights, as well as the days and place of departure, since there were periods when they left from the Ezeiza International Airport. The requests they made were that the flights leave on Fridays and not Saturdays, as was happening and to and from Aeroparque. «It is our duty to acknowledge the generosity of the people from Aerolineas who received us and explained that the company suffered the same consequences as all companies due to the pandemic», said Lucía Corpacci.

Catamarca, like La Rioja, until now only had flights two days a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, showing a bleak outlook in the face of the isolation suffered by the provinces of the Cuyo Region. During the signing of the new Statute of the North Tourism Entity, its President and Minister of Tourism and Culture of the Province of La Rioja, Gustavo Luna, had expressed his concern about the connectivity disadvantage suffered by these provinces. «We need the Aerolíneas authorities to treat us the same as the unequal, we cannot develop with only two flights, which also depart from Ezeiza and not from Aeroparque. With weekend tourism we need to ensure that they have the possibility of returning quickly to their destination, because if not, we lose that tourist. It is not the same to go to a district that has up to 14 flights per week to one that has to take a plane from Ezeiza at three in the morning, come and wait four days so that he can return by plane to Buenos Aires”, said Gustavo Luna.

The improvement in the connection comes at a key moment for the Province of Catamarca, which seeks to boost tourism activity after the crisis that has caused in the aviation and tourism sectors due to the effects of the pandemic. Starting in August 2021, Catamarca will specify an important stimulus for tourists and air transport users who need more advantageous frequencies, connections and schedules.

Flydubái

Mendoza incorpora sistema VCS

AW | 2021 07 14 18:51 | AIRPORTS

Mendoza Airport incorporates VCS system

They install a new digitized communication system

The Argentine Air Navigation Company (EANA) completed the complete digitization of the communications systems of the Mendoza International Airport/Gobernador Francisco Gabrielli and the Area Control Center of said air terminal. The Voice Switching System (VCS) constitutes the core of the communications infrastructure of the Control Tower (TWR) and the Area Control Center, EANA reported in a statement.

The VCS update that is within the 2020-2024 service plan and allowed the enabling of a second IP frequency in all remote communication stations (EAVAS) of the Flight Information Region (FIR) with voice over IP communication (VOIP). This means an important technological and service advance, since today there was only a single frequency with technology and analog links that will soon be shut down due to obsolescence. The terrestrial links will also have VSAT satellite backup provided by ARSAT, thus achieving redundancy in the entire system. The new VCS is of the latest generation and was purchased from the Austrian company Frequentis AG. It allows up to 50 radio equipment to be managed and air control personnel to operate local and remote VHF radio equipment, and to make telephone calls both on the aeronautical network (ATN) and on the public network (PSTN).

Due to the central importance of the VCS in the operation of air navigation services, the new communication technology was installed without affecting air traffic control. For this modernization and technological migration, framed in the Air Transport Modernization Plan carried out by the Ministry of Transport, 17 operator positions were installed in different dependencies, fully equipped according to international standards. The system allows to integrate up to 28 telephone lines and 20-30 analog/IP radios, record up to 100 channels of digital audio, and store up to 60 days of recordings. In addition, the digital VCS was integrated into the EANA ATN network, with remote access for maintenance from the facilities of the system manufacturers. Likewise, EANA implemented an IP backup communication system. In the event of a failure or problem in the VCS, air traffic control will have a communication alternative that guarantees the continuity of operations.
