Avianca retomará proyecto de alianza estratégica

Avianca_Airlines_Isologotype

Avianca strengthens alliances

Avianca will resume strategic alliance project

Avianca_Airlines Star_Alliance_Isologotype-002

The strategic commercial alliance announced a few years ago by Avianca Airlines and United Airlines, incorporating the Panamanian Copa Airlines, to offer a more robust network of routes and frequencies to passengers between Latin America and the United States continues its strategy as part of a renewed alliance. As part of the restructuring, the structure of the company has changed, which was previously Avianca Holdings based in Panama and was renamed Avianca Group International Limited, domiciled in the United Kingdom.

Avianca filed for Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Law in May 2020. to get out of a crisis aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, and in July 2021 it obtained financial commitments for US$ 1.6 billion to finance its reorganization. On December 1, 2021, the company announced that it had successfully completed its financial restructuring, which allowed it to emerge from bankruptcy with significantly reduced debt and more than US$ 1 billion in liquidity.

The President of Avianca Group International Limited, Adrián Neuhauser, who this Thursday 09/12 reported that after the company emerged from Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Law, the reorganization process and strategic alliances will be developed in the next two years. According to the manager, for this it is necessary to re-plan a new agreement that starts from zero under the new reality of the company and the market, and the first step will be a private negotiation in which the terms that will be raised between the three players will be analyzed. in the way in which the alliance will be made, a situation that involves defining what the routes will be, who and how will operate them. Similarly, the three airlines will have to define how revenue is shared and how cost responsibilities are allocated. The second part will be the regulatory approval by the aeronautical authorities of the countries involved in the markets that the strategic alliance intends to serve.

Avianca, new model

In 2019, the commercial alliance in which the companies worked, before the impact of Covid-19, was based on an airline that had a hub or operations center in Bogotá, Colombia, but to the extent that Avianca Group is migrating to have a more point-to-point operation, without depending so much on the Bogotá/El Dorado Airport for connections, the operating conditions have to be redefined. «It is a large project, which is going to take time», said the manager during the presentation of the new Avianca concept for everyone, under which it seeks to compete strongly with the low-cost airline market that continues to grow and for which the airline they expect their average rates to drop twenty percent from what they had before.

Avianca Group’s new business vision combines the best of its 102 years of existence with the practicality of the low-cost airline model, without implying its transformation into a low-cost one. «We are adapting, recognizing that flying is no longer an option, it is not a luxury, it is part of the basic basket on the demand for flights, which accelerated impressively from 2010», said Adrián Neuhauser. According to the president From Avianca, there are studies that indicate that in 2027 more than 50% of the Latin American aviation market will be low cost because users are looking for this model to travel.

As part of its new business vision, Avianca will simplify its fleet, which will be made up of Boeing 787 and Airbus A320, which implies the retirement of the A330 and ATR-72, the latter used for regional flights. The airline also launched a reconfiguration of its cabins to offer more seats in the Economy, Plus and Premium categories on more than 90 Airbus A320 aircraft used on short and medium-range routes. Seven aircraft in Colombia and one in Ecuador already have the cabin reconfiguration with Plus and Economy seats, and in the second quarter of 2022 they will have the first aircraft completely reconfigured with the Premium offer. This adaptation will last until the end of 2022 and Avianca will invest more than US $ 200 million in these changes.

Market recovery

Avianca has recovered 73% of its global operation and currently operates 116 routes in the American continent and to Europe, with about 3,400 flights a week. Between January and November 202, the company transported more than 12 million travelers and operated more than 100,000 flights, a sign that it has begun to recover after the pandemic and the approval of the reorganization plan. “We are very happy with the way the recovery is going. The pandemic is not over and the solution to this is vaccination”, says Adrián Neuhauser.

Avianca outlook

Colombian airline Avianca began its takeoff after emerging from Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Law as a revitalized company, with better financial health and a new business vision. The company pointed out that in the next two years it will receive twenty (20) additional aircraft that will allow it to offer more than 200 routes, at the same time that it will make an important boost to the Lifemiles loyalty program and the cargo segment, which in 2021 represented the 35 percent of income.

Ecuador firma cielos abiertos

AW | 2021 12 10 10:22 | AIRLINES ALLIANCE / GOVERNMENT

Ecuador signs open skies

Four countries sign Open Skies MoU

The Republic of Ecuador has signed an Open Skies agreement with four countries, which will allow the arrival of more airlines and the reactivation of the tourism sector in Ecuador. Both the air and tourism sectors were the most affected during the pandemic and this measure would boost its reactivation. The signing of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the United States, Kuwait, Chile and the Dominican Republic will allow an open skies policy. Last Wednesday 08/12, the Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Marcelo Cabrera, signed an agreement with several countries to eliminate air restrictions between nations, allowing the abolition of air restrictions with the arrival of new airlines to Ecuador.

Normally, when a foreign airline had plans to expand its frequencies, it had to request permits from the aeronautical authorities of Ecuador and its country of origin. These frequencies are granted according to the availability that exists and there are limits, depending on the country. For example, the United States has already assigned the 120 frequencies that can operate in Ecuador among its airlines. Now, that limitation is unlocked. “With the United States it is extremely important. We have a very large exchange and the offer of flights here was dammed because the North American airlines already had the number of frequencies that were in the previous agreement, which was 120 weekly frequencies. And there was the interest of new airlines to come, but it could not do so because there were no frequencies available and now what is being done is unblocking”, explains Marco Subía, President of the Association of Representatives of Air Lines of Ecuador. The airline sector recorded economic losses of US $ 600 million in 2020, according to the union. Marco Subía mentions that this measure will also allow the export sector to be boosted through commercial exchange through air cargo. “The flowers, tropical fruits, the cargo that leaves by plane will be energized. Also, the country is negotiating free trade agreements. Air cargo is essential. Tourism is like rain, it waters everyone, it will reach hotels, taxis, tour operators, restaurants. It is an activity that reaches almost all of society”, says Marco Subía.

Holbach Muñeton, President of the Federation of Chambers of Tourism of Ecuador, welcomes this signing of memorandums of understanding. He says it will help boost the economy and therefore the sector, which to date has a 50% drop compared to 2019 levels. “This will make Ecuador more dynamic. That reactivation be promoted because at this moment the reactivation is hard, we have not yet gotten up. We are subsisting”, says Holbach Muñeton. These agreements will impact hotels, restaurants, tour operators, travel agencies and others linked to that value chain.

The signature with the countries is important, highlighting the United States as the best client, which is why 380,000 Americans arrived in 2019, according to the representative of the tourism sector.

The signing of the MoU with the Dominican Republic is attractive because there is an airline interested in establishing a new route. With Chile he explains that it is also essential. Currently, the Chilean airline Latam Airlines will seek to sign part of the benefit of the open skies agreement.

The MoU with the Kingdom of Kuwait ensures in the long term the incorporation of new airline operations, especially in the cargo sector.

The signing of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the four countries took place in Bogotá during the XIII International Conference of Air Agreements Business (ICAN2021). «This day is important for the country, the open skies memoranda that we signed unite Ecuador with the world, our commercial partners are closer, this means more work», said Marcelo Cabrera. The head of the State portfolio highlighted the union with the United States and that firm steps are being taken for reactivation.

Air France-KLM new flights to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

AW-AF-KLM

Air France-KLM will increase its offer in Brazil from February 2022. The announcement was made on Tuesday, December 7, 2022, during a breakfast in Rendez-Vous, attended by Manuel Flahault, General Director of the Air France-KLM Group in South America, and Steven van Wijk, Commercial Director of the Air France-KLM Group in South America. «We are excited about the São Paulo market and happy to announce a new operation. Starting in February 2022, we will have two daily flights from São Paulo (GRU) to Paris», said Manuel Flahault, General Manager of the Air France-KLM Group.

São Paulo will have an offer of ten weekly flights (10Frq/S) from Air France to Paris, with daily flights and three additional frequencies (3Frq S) on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, in addition to the daily flight between São Paulo/GRU and Amsterdam. In Rio de Janeiro, Air France and KLM will launch a new weekly flight, adding six operations each, starting in February and May 2022, respectively. According to the director Manuel, the decision that was promoted corroborates the group’s consolidation plan in the country Currently, Air France/KLM operates in three destinations in Brazil, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and the most recent, Fortaleza, which resumed in October of that year. «At this point the strategy is to consolidate operations in these three states. However, we are monitoring demand and competition in search of new opportunities. For destinations that do not yet serve direct flights, we have GOL Linhas Aéreas, which is a Fantastic partner for us. Increasing the capacity of São Paulo helps us to increase connectivity and serve other Brazilian states as well. Perhaps in the future new opportunities will appear. Connectivity is the key. We are confident that we will return, with good numbers, in 2022», expressed the Director of Air France-KLM.

Quirky and challenging year

At that time, the executives also updated the press on the company’s presence in Brazil, the main moments of 2021 and the opportunities for 2022. «It has been a very peculiar and challenging year. We have had a great impact on Covid, but we are seeing a recovery. The level we are at now is very different from the level at the beginning of the year. When the pandemic started to improve in Europe and Brazil, everything started to improve very quickly and every time a border was opened, we saw a strong market reaction. Stifled demand vibrated with each open. We are confident about the future, but we are working cautiously. We do not have long-term predictions due to the new variant. But we hope to have a good year in 2022. With advanced vaccination and demand is reactive, Brazil is a good market for us. We are confident about the future, but we are working cautiously. We do not have long-term predictions due to the new variant. But wait Have a good year in 2022», explained Manuel Flahault.

The group has developed good results, even so, it did not risk making concrete predictions about the future and projections of the figures for next year. «We do not know when we will grow back to prepemic levels, this will depend a lot on the opening and possible closures of borders, which will be a reflection of the moment that the future holds», added Manuel Flahault. Despite the threat of a new wave possibly caused by the Omicron variant, the airline has not measured efforts to operate safely for its customers. In addition to strict health protocols, the company has also created flexible rates to give passengers more peace of mind. «Borders can be closed and opened at any time, and passengers want flexibility. So we created a flexible ticketing policy to meet the needs of our customers. We are one of the most flexible groups in the world because we know this is a critical point for our passengers», explained Steven van Wijk.

Occupancy close to pre-pandemic levels

The profile of the client in this new moment has also changed a lot. The leisure public has been leading the recovery, but the corporate one begins to show signs of growth. «The occupancy of our flights is already close to what it was in 2019. At the beginning of the resumption, the occupancy was very focused on the leisure public, and especially on the comments. Leisure remains our largest market since the beginning of pandemic. However, since September we have seen growth and return of the company, although not yet at the pre-pandemic level. This is important to us, «said Manuel Flahault. Steve van Wijk took advantage of his partner’s speech and added: «We are deeply rooted in the recovery of companies, which is an extremely important market for us, and in Brazil, we have seen growth and return of this audience».

«We are delighted to announce the near doubling in the size of our order with Boeing. We have long relied on the economics of the 737 MAX family, but we are especially excited about the 737-8-200 variant, which accounts for the largest share. of our additional orders. Primer montaje Airbus A321XLR

AW | 2021 12 07 13:13 | INDUSTRY

Airbus completa el montaje estructural del primer A321XLR

AW-A321LR

Airbus_Isologotype_svg

Airbus completes structural assembly of the first A321XLR

AW-700321001XLR

Airbus_Logotype Globe

Airbus Group has completed the final structural assembly of the first test example of the A321XLR after the delivery of major component assemblies on time to its Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Hamburg, Germany, last month. While other Airbus FAL locations will eventually produce the long-range narrow-body aircraft, the company has chosen Hamburg to pilot the new A320NEO variant in series production, starting with the three development flight test aircraft, now in various stages. completion.

«For the A321 family, we have started all the release heads in Hamburg and it is our intention to build these aircraft also at the other sites. We are currently on track for the A321XLR from other single-aisle GALs to be delivered as well. Therefore, it is important that all teams learn from the experience in Hamburg so that we can bring this knowledge to the other facilities. This is also what we are doing with the A320 Family Airspace cabin, which we started in Hamburg», said the Head of the A320 Program, Michael Menking.

The first A321XLR will enter a so-called task force to install its Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) suite, followed by the installation of its CFM Leap engines and nacelles. Engineers will test the engines the first time, then the landing gear retraction mechanism and door fairings, followed by a general aircraft quality inspection. «In the final assembly of the A321XLR aircraft there is not much variation compared to the other A321 aircraft. The main differences in the XLR are seen in the ‘pre-FAL’, at the section assembly level, where the tank is installed. central rear, for example», said Airbus A320 Head of Value Stream Gerd Weber.

Airbus calls the rear center tank produced by Premium Aerotec, which holds 12,900 liters (3,408 gallons) of additional fuel, the «key enabler» of the aircraft’s 4,700 nm range. «What is also specific to this first A321XLR aircraft is that there is a lot of documentation work to be done, especially for the flight test facility, which is very different from our serial process. Therefore, this requires a special approach by part of all teams to close the paperwork and deal with any discrepancies», said Gerd Weber.

The next production step, the application of the aircraft’s external paint scheme, essentially completes the aircraft prior to delivery to the flight test teams, which will activate and run all systems, flight controls, engines, and the APU to through a series of ground tests, followed by taxi races and first flight next year 2022.
