AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Latam Argentina ventures lowcost tickets

Latam Argentina Airlines will start low-cost flights in Argentina from September 2018

The domestic market in Argentina will expand after the completion of the price band scheme. On August 15, 2018, the Argentine government eliminated the minimum reference rate for cabotage flights, thus lifting the restriction on the airlines’ minimum fares.

Latam Airlines Group will start selling tickets in Argentina under the new sales model for domestic markets. The airline will include the last of its six domestic markets where the company enters in this model of minimum rates. The prices of air tickets without limit restrictions are also used in the different countries where the Latam Airlines group operates in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Perú.

The new policies of minimum reference rates will allow Latam Argentina to stimulate demand to transport more passengers on domestic flights and increase the generation of auxiliary revenues, despite the negative results of the Latam Group in 2Q2018.

At the beginning of 4Q2018 the airline will begin to implement this new sales model on regional routes. In this way, around 90% of the total passengers will be flying under this new model by the end of 2018, the airline Latam Argentina Airlines reported.

Although the airline has informed that most passengers will be able to access cheaper fares, the company will not be a low cost airline. The current unrestricted band tariff market will help many traditional airlines to attract more selective market. A \ W

Pasajera bajada avión por ser alérgica

AW | 2018 08 21 13:36 | AIRLINES / AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Passenger lowered plane to be allergic

A young passenger of an Alaska Airlines flight is removed from a flight because she is allergic to animals

A young girl allergic to cats was taken off a plane carrying a feline «emotional support». The episode occurred aboard an Alaska Airlines aircraft. A 15-year-old teenager got the surprise of her life as she prepared to return to her home in the city of Kotzebue, Alaska, after finishing the summer camp she had attended in Anchorage.

Incidents vs Emotional Support

When boarding Alaska Airlines‘ AS153 flight, operated by a Boeing 737, he sought his seat and waited for the rest of the passengers to board to begin the return home. When it seemed that the ship was about to close its doors he saw a woman entering the plane accompanied by a cat «emotional support». This would have been ignored by any other person, unless the protagonist of the story suffers a severe allergy to cats. By alerting the crew, they began to argue with the young woman who alleged that she had never warned them about their special needs, blaming her in the process for not having notified them at the time of booking. As the discussion went up in tone, one of the customer care managers explained to the child that they could not remove the cat from the plane since its owner had purchased a ticket specifically for her animal companion to travel to her side. In addition, he indicated that if someone had to get off the plane it had to be the quinceañera. Then the airline asked the young woman to get off. The airline has explained that they do their best to accommodate all the individuals who decide to travel with Alaska Airlines. In this situation, the crew followed the procedure when trying to place the passenger with allergies and the cat as far as possible, explained representatives of the airline.

Following the situation without solving, one of the responsible for customer service came to explain that due to the view who should leave the flight was the quinceañera because he never warned the airline of their allergic problem so they could not take precautions necessary. Finally, the girl obeyed and got off, she was relocated on another flight that would leave some the next day.

Although it was tried to assist both passengers, the minor decided to be rearranged on another flight due to her allergies. The emotional support feline remained in the ship while the minor was removed. After spending one night in Anchorage, the girl was finally able to board an upcoming flight and meet her parents in Kotzebue.

esa-registration.jpgQuestions in aviation

These incidents have generated a wave of questions from consumers and industry experts, many of whom say that the inconveniences generated by the animals on board the aircraft have gone out of control.

The fact occurred on the Alaska Airlines AS153 flight that adds to a number of cases that have caught the attention of airport authorities. Owners of emotional support animals must carry an identification card at all times

A recent article in The Wall Street Journal reported six cases of passengers bitten by animals aboard Delta Air Lines planes, only in the last 60 days. According to figures shared by the airline, its flights carry around 700 emotional support animals daily, compared to only 450 in 2016.

The increase of animals transported aboard commercial aircraft worries the regulatory authorities. «I think we have reached a critical point, we are very concerned about the safety of our customers and the crew», said Gil West, President of Delta Air Lines. A \ W

Aerolíneas negocia ajuste por US$ 70 Mll.

AW | 2018 08 18 19:03 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aerolíneas negotiates adjustment for US$ 70 million

untitled-1_157.pngAerolíneas would close agreement in 60 days to improve competitiveness.

Aerolíneas Argentinas will begin negotiations with the different aeronautical unions on Tuesday to renegotiate union agreements, in the search for a savings of US$ 15 million per year in this first stage but which is part of a larger plan of US$ 70 million.

Faced with a scenario of greater competitiveness, the largest airline in Argentina is immersed in deep economic changes to effectively reduce subsidies and become self-financing. Faced with a possible loss of market due to the entry of low-cost airlines, it will initiate trade union renegotiation processes.

The emerging market in Argentina begins with competitors such as Flybondi Líneas aéreas, which will soon be followed by Norwegian Air Argentina and JetSmart Airlines. The low-cost airline Flybondi has gained a market share by reducing Aerolíneas Argentinas by 7%.

Adjustments in the Condor

After a first semester on the rise, today Aerolíneas is stagnant, pending to define in 90 days the replacement of two types of aircraft with broad radius of action and regional. Meanwhile, Aerolíneas is pressing the unions to suspend international air routes due to lack of operational capacity if economic savings are not achieved, they will have to go down routes such as Rome or New York, effectively lowering the route to Barcelona on 2017. The company, that operates under the regime of the state ones that it was agreed to adjust in the program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), seeks to renegotiate 70 points with the unions, but for now it lowered the list to 15 central issues and little conflictive. Within this framework, shortly after the debate on the 2019 Budget starts, the flag line already anticipates that it will be adjusted by the fall in general activity. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Jet Airways would sublet ATR72 to Trujet

Jet Airways is in talks to sublease planes to regional airline TruJet

Indian airline Jet Airways is in talks to sublet nearly half of its turboprop aircraft ATR 72‘s to regional airline TruJet, in a move that will reduce its presence in the competitive domestic market that hopes to re-ironize its financial problems.

Trujet’s Commercial Director, Senthil Raja, said the company was in talks with Jet Airways to acquire seven ATR 72’s on a wetlease lease (insurance, maintenance and crew) with a five-year license, expecting to receive the first turboprop aircraft in October 2018.

Jet Airways, which is partly owned by Etihad Airways, told the Indian stock exchanges that it continues to evaluate all possible alternatives to ensure optimal use of its fleet. The airline has a total of 121 aircraft, of which 18 are turboprops that fly on shorter routes and smaller cities. By subleasing them, the airline will reduce its presence in the domestic market, where it competes with low-cost carriers such as IndiGo and SpiceJet, allowing it to focus on more lucrative international operations.

TruJet is in talks to take four arrival and departure slots at the airports in the southern cities of Chennai and Coimbatore, although the routes are not part of the lease. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

This decision is made in a search framework to make all resources more efficient. Fleet renewal

The new management of the firm, in charge of Luis Malvido, have communicated the need to renew the fleet to be more competitive, but the determination on the replacement of the aircraft will be taken only in about sixty days. Aerolíneas issued a statement in which it stated that without the incorporation of at least two new aircraft in the course of 2019, «Aerolíneas will not be able to cover all of its international routes, and the decision on those aircraft should be made within the next 60 days. For its part, Austral Líneas Aéreas has similar emergencies, and in the next 90 days it must define the renewal of its Embraer E190 fleet, since it needs more modern aircraft of greater size to be able to compete with the new operators that arrive on the market», says the release.

This situation occurs in the middle of the conflicts with the unions for the attempts to make the pilots more flexible. It should be noted that for a long time it has been talking about the replacement of the fleet of 22 Embraer E190 aircraft by other large aircraft to meet the growing demand for more traffic in Argentina.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Conflict pilots of KLM

Resultado de imagen para KLM pngThe Dutch airline could enter unemployment due to work overload of pilots

The KLM pilots are threatening to leave their job at the busiest time of the year, out of anger at the absence of a new collective labor agreement. There would even be an ultimatum from the Association of Dutch Traffic Flyers (VNV) to the management of the airline. That will expire next Friday. The union of pilots expresses an agreement for Friday.

Conflict pilots of KLM

The conflict focuses on the workload. It has increased considerably in recent years. KLM and VNV are passionate about this, as is a plan that will reduce the workload by 4 percent. But a CLA in which those solutions were registered was rejected in June by the members of the VNV. The breaking point: The pilots want the KLM here and now to catch the bull by the horns, the airline says it can only be in the middle of next year. They did not leave again during the collective labor agreement meeting last Friday. KLM recognizes the problem: «Unfortunately, the consultation ended in a difficult phase».

Reduction of workload

The most viable response is to incorporate more pilots. The VNV wants 110 pilots, in addition to the necessary growth to replace pilots who retire or transfer. Those 110 must be submitted before the expiration of the new collective labor agreement. That is planned for the middle of next year. KLM says it needs more time; she can not just open a can of pilots. From its own training, the Flight Academy in Eelde, only 60 men and women with a certificate come every year.

KLM needs pilots of all types and sizes, for different types of aircraft and flights (intercontinental, for example). These are not so easy to find with charter or budget companies. KLM has to compete internationally with better paying competitors. KLM employs 2,800 pilots. They are (almost) all members of the union of VNV pilots.

The shortage of pilots

In the Netherlands it is not so big that the planes remain on the ground, because KLM can not find anyone who can crawl behind the control lever. However, the work force is scarce. Comets have to postpone vacations and days off more frequently so that the company can weave around the net. The problem is that pilots are the most expensive employees of an airline, with salaries that can reach up to two tons. With the narrow margins in the aviation industry, you can not take anything extra to absorb the spikes in the crowds.

Throughout the world, there is a shortage of pilots, although this varies greatly from one region to another. In the United States, many pilots will retire in the coming years. In Asia more pilots are needed because the growing prosperity allows more consumers to fly. But in the former Soviet Union and Africa, the number of vacancies is very low.

In the next twenty years, 790 thousand new pilots will be operating worldwide, says the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. That is a duplication of the current pilot file. Boeing and its competitor Airbus do not see that huge question as a problem. They start their own pilot training courses; the margin in a person with a license is higher than that of an airplane.

AW-70083774.pngRYANAIR EMPLEA POLÍTICA AGRESIVA USANDO LA CRISIS DE VUELING 2016 PARA PROMOCIONARSE

Pilotos atacan a Ryanair

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Ryanair and the flight of pilots

Ryanair could again experience a new flight of crew personnel

A year after losing more than 140 pilots, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair would have to face a new wave of pilots exodus to other airlines.

On the hunt for pilots

Among the airlines that would be attracting more Ryanair pilots is the British easyJet that is looking for its direct competitor pilots and experienced assistants. Norwegian registers 180 Ryanair pilots and obliges it to cancel 2000 flights. The easyJet recruiting team arrives in Dublin, Ireland. The Spanish airlines also open their templates for the incorporation of pilots. China’s airlines are throwing the hook to catch more pieces for their high demand for pilots in the East.

Claims on Ryanair

Almost a year ago, the low-cost Irish airline was forced to cancel more than 2,000 flights. By then, he suffered a massive flight of pilots: at least 140 left to join the staff of another low cost, Norwegian Air Shuttle. Although Ryanair has always attributed those cancellations to a roster failure, that is, in the planning of its personnel, the truth is that right from there it reinforced the salaries of its pilots. Also, as reported by the airline, this year have hired 620 pilots. But when the problem is not only wages and is part of one of the professions most in demand today, as is the case of pilots, the conditions and the work environment govern the decisions.

The protests are being heard strongly this summer by strikes in many European countries. The reality is based on the fact that the working conditions in Ryanair are not the most optimal. For a long time the Ryanair directive has suppressed the voices of union processes.

The unions have never been seen well on Ryanair. For a decade, the demands of employees were represented through the European Employee Representative Committee (EERC), a bargaining agency that, according to the strikers, were people hired to favor the interests of the company and block improvements. When some groups of employees sought to organize, the company sanctioned them alleging other causes.

Everything changed when last year there was an international and massive affiliation to national unions because, according to those concerned, the employees had lost their fear and had little to lose. Today Ryanair considers that many of these groups are illegitimate because they were born on competing airlines. Nor do they accept that the same union represents the workers of the airline and those who are outsourced and belong to other companies.

Turning on Ryanair

The historic change comes when Michael O’Leary urges pilots in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal not to strike. Ryanair will recognize the pilot unions for the first time in its 32-year history in an attempt to avoid strikes in the run-up to the Christian holidays at the end of the year. Michael O’Leary’s refusal to recognize the unions was at the heart of the low-cost airline business model he developed, transforming a small Irish regional airline into the largest airline in Europe by passenger number. The CEO of the airline has frequently rejected the complaints of the pilots and insisted that wage negotiations be carried out through representative committees controlled by the company on individual bases. He was once quoted as saying that he preferred to cut his hand rather than recognize the unions. However, the shortage of pilots led the airline to cancel thousands of flights earlier this year, which meant a change of power for the staff.

Pilots have complained about a toxic work environment on the airline, although Ryanair says it offers a comparatively high payment. Although previous attempts to unionize have faltered in the past, the new unionization will establish fairer patterns in response to the demands of Ryanair staff in Ireland and throughout Europe.

Pilots attack Ryanair

Ryanair canceled about 400 flights in Europe, most of them in Germany, when pilots from five countries organized strikes as longstanding tensions between the Irish LCC and its workforce reached a critical point. Pilots in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Ireland followed calls from their respective unions, which coordinated to maximize pressure on the airline, although the demands differ according to the country. Ryanair operates around 2,000 flights per day in the summer.

Southwest vs Ryanair model

The low-cost model of Ryanair, taken from the American Southwest Airlines, has had decades to adapt. If the airline has shown something over the years, it is that this dynamic democratization of air travel is relatively shock-proof.

While Ryanair gave its own spin to the low-cost, low-complexity business model that Southwest perfected, it is useful to remember that Southwest Airlines has long had strong and committed flight attendants and flight attendants: around 83% of all flight attendants Southwest are unionized. The US low-cost leader has managed to meet the needs of its employees while maintaining a Lean operation.

Ryanair is not the same as Southwest. On the one hand, it is only recently that the CEO of the airline, Michael O’Leary, publicly acknowledged that it is worth being friendly. Southwest knew all along.

Ryanair, the ugly duckling

Ryanair has developed some animosity for decades and has only been working to soften its tone over the past four years with its Always Getting Better initiatives. It takes more time for the friendlier image to adhere. Meanwhile, as the airline faces multiple unions, the animosity that the airline has encouraged fosters a bit of schadenfreude.

Ryanair faces great uncertainty in the following years. Labor costs are only a problem, but could also be affected by an additional increase in fuel costs, which is unlikely to be passed on to consumers. Brexit could also hurt its business in the UK and make the airline more dependent on growth opportunities in countries like Germany, where union power is significant.

Ryanair faces turbulence at this time with the pilot unions across Europe that demand better working conditions. Optics is bad for an airline that has been on a path of aggressive growth for decades, something that the low cost airline has not been able to pilot. A \ W
